This is my personal opinion, but feel free to use it if you so like.

具体的な違いを挙げるとしたら山ほどあると思うけど、アイドルって結局各々の好みの話じゃない？　(I could give a bunch of examples, but in the end I think it's all about each and everyone's taste and likings.)

I'm not that good yet in japanese,so I'll put it in english.

Idoling!!! started as a TV show where a group of girls were selected to become idols and to make them grow and develop their characters. Singing and dancing was less important, although that has become an extra means to spread their fame over time. But the main goal was to prepare them for the idol/media business.
AKB48 started as a (huge) singing group that slowly started to become more and more popular. Later the TV shows became an extra means to spread their fame, and some members became so popular that they also entered the idol/media business.
But another difference is that AKB48 may have 48 or more members, they may only have like 10-20 top members and the rest are cute filler girls (AKB fans will probably shoot me for having said that

), while Idoling!!! started small and let them all grow in smaller groups and every girl is lovable. In Idoling, each member has her outspoken and different personality. I'm not saying that this is not so for AKB48, but that's how I feel about it.

But in the end, the difference... they have a different background of where they come from. But Idoling still carries the same goal, while AKB48 may have changed/expanded their goal over time.

This is in no way meant to say that AKB is not good and Idoling is better, or anything like that. It's just my opinion. (Plus AKB48 has way too many members for me remember their names

)

thanks. but Ayabie, the question is "what is the difference" not "which one you like". so I expect answers like:
1. Idoling!!! = 20 members while AKB48 = 48 members or more (though only 20 of them appear in the A-side single).
2. AKB48 is fine without TV show (probably), but Idoling!!! without their TV show is a problem.
3. For AKB48, popular members are the frontline while Idoling!!! are flexible depend on the situation.
4. etc...

but since the answers have to be in Japanese, all my answer so far when replying that kind of question is

Idoling!!! is born from a TV show and later on evolve to be a singer アイドリングは最初から番組から生まれたグループ、あとは歌手に進歩している
AKB is nothing but singers looking for PR in the TVs　AKBは歌手から始まるそしてテレビでPRをする

Idoling!!! is sort of iconic for FujiTV　アイドリング！！！はフジテレビの代表にもある
AKB is iconic for the whole wota culture in Akiba　AKBはヲタクアイドルの代表にある

Idoling!!!'s role in a song is basically set and finalize as the song is tailored to everyone's ability　アイドリングの歌はそれぞれのメンバーの力をみて決めるです
AKB's song don't really care who's singing which song so much except for a few members as they need to rotate members daily in and out for the theater live　AKBの歌は普通にメンバー変えてもOKもあり。毎日にライブがあるからいつもメンバーが変えるのは必要ですから

AKB has the senbatsu system which will determine the rotation of the main girls　AKBはセンバツがあるからPVとかイベントとかセンバツメンバーしかないな

In Idoling!!! the staff is just as important as the group. You learn about many of the staff's name and personality too. There's even episode about the staff member　アイドリングでは番組スタフは大事です、アイドリングと同じぐらい大事です。番組で色んなスタフのことを分かりました。
In AKB I wonder, from the last time that I watched sure you know about one D but that's about it.　AKBの番組はスタフは確かに大事ですけどあまり詳しくはしらない

err.. these are my opinion I guess... I dunno about the Japanese I wrote should have tons of grammar mistake everywhere..

I'm definitely buying that photo book.
I bought the second photobook in a Book Off in Kyoto. They also had the first photobook,but I didn't buy that one because I didn't know the graduated members yet back then,but now I regret not getting the first one as well

So I'm definitely getting this one! And comes with a dvd as well ^^

Idoling!!! Nikki is no more. The new show will just be called "Idoling!!!" and will be starting on 10/18, and it will now also be airing in the Kansai region and Hokkaidou.

Sucks to have a little gap, but this is another big step for the group.

Lol, i was just watching Mecha Mecha Iketeru 2010-10-03, and i swear its Idoling member auditioning for Mecha Mecha Iketeru Shinmember. When that dude is showing off his legs. its Ton-chan, Fonchi, Umeko, Amimi, Hii-chan, and Yurikaru.
