Recommend me an automated binary-optimized newsreader
« on: January 02, 2007, 08:38:59 AM »
I just figured out what the Usenet server for my ISP is, and for the first time since college, I have access to alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.bluebird and related newsgroups.

Problem is, I've forgotten what automated newsreader to use.  Ideally, I'd like something that is
* free.
* fast and automated.  Can handle X00,000 articles per newsgroup without freezing
* binary optimized.  Automatically stitches multi-article binaries together.
* schedulable.  So I can run it every day or so and get it to download only the newest binaries.

Any tips?

GrabIt does most if not all of that.

Hm, for 'all of the above', I know only of XNews: http://xnews.newsguy.com/

But haven't used it for a while (currently using Agent and/or NewBinPro) and I do not use automation features at all, only the 'get new headers in group'.

Thanks!  Grabit is nice.  Easy to use and takes hardly any resources.  Downloaded 14GB of jpgs over the night.  Unfortunately, it doesn't have a scheduler.

I know newsbin is not free but this is one of the few shareware that I have actually paid for.  Totally worth the money.  There's a 10 day trail thingy you can download.

Back in the 90's, Bluebird was one of the original high-quality scanners, focusing on gravure and soft core J-porn.  He had extremely high standards for both scan quality and girl quality, and spawned lots of imitators.

Unfortunately, today at least half of the scans on the .bluebird newsgroup is from Chinese scanners who scan indiscriminately from fashion magazines - everything, including the ads!
