A Yell from Heaven (天国からのエール , Tengoku kara no ēru) is the true story of the late Hikaru Nakasone, a man in Okinawa who ran a bento shop. He felt there were a lack of music studios for aspiring high school musicians to practice and record, so he built a studio, calling it "Ajisai Ongaku Mura" He allowed the students to use the facility without charge, but the life lessons he gave them were part of the deal.
Hiroshi Abe, who has been part of huge television and film hits, took on this role with trepidation, as he wanted to do his best to portray the true spirit of Nakasone san (the character in the move is named Hikaru Oshiro), and the cast and crew met with those who knew Nakasone san, to help with the portrayals of characters and relationships.
Nanami plays one of those high school students who benefitted from time spend at the studio, and she had to learn to play guitar for her role.
Theme song "Arigatou" by Steropony- whose members wanted to say thankyou for the influence that Nakasone san had on them when they spent time at the studio.
Nakasone san was diagnosed with cancer of the liver in 2005, and he passed away in 2009 at 42 years old. He lives on through an NHK documentary that aired in 2009, plus a book entitled "Our Song was Born in a Bento Shop: Yell "(僕らの歌は弁当屋で生まれた YELL, Bokura no uta wa bentō-ya de umareta YELL), and of course, this film, which opened in Japan last month.
