HOLY SHIT! The Asian equivalent of The Expendables (Stallone movie starring Jet Li, Stone Cold and almost every action star imaginable.)



A new movie starring Donnie Yen, Thai on-screen boxer star Tony Jaa, Prison Break star Wentworth Miller and Korean actress Song Hye-Kyo? The movie will be called Ji Xian Feng (roughly means: bold vanguard), according to Mr. Yang, the director of Imaginary Starlight, a not so well known studio based in the city of Shenzhen, boarding Hong Kong in South China.

However, Mr. Yang has announced the project will cost about 100 million yuans (US$ 15 million) and the shooting will begin in April 2010.

The cast list is appealing, but it is way to early to get excited about. We don't know who will write it, who will direct it, who will choreograph it and what the story really is. We don't even know the casting is a done deal or just the studio director's wishful thinking.

- Just a little update on this. Korean media picked up on this item (crediting it to Twitch and not Chinese media, which is kind of laughable. We're only the messenger, folks) by contacting Song Hye-Gyo's management on the matter, and they promptly denied any involvement. So either they'll get a script under their Xmas tree courtesy of Wong's folks, or it's another chapter in the "Chinese media plays wishful thinking" saga. Guess next in line will be Miller's folks. Oh well. That's what fervid imagination is for.

As reported last September, we're not exactly dealing with a confirmed deal, particularly as none of the major Chinese portals have an entry for the film yet, but Raymond Wong's dream Hk$ 150 million project 急先锋 (Vanguard) is creating more buzz, and going even more insane with potential casting shenanigans.
