Zhao Wei Announces New Film
2010-12-22 11:48:15     CRIENGLISH.com       Web Editor: Xie Tingting

After devoting an entire year to her family, actress Zhao Wei has announced her comeback role, actually two roles.

Zhao Wei will play two roles in "Underground Resistance" ("Shi Kong Di Dao"), a film that involves romance and time travel, the actress said Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at a press conference held for the film in Tianjin.

"But I can't say more at the moment. The scripts are still undergoing some changes," Zhao Wei was quoted in a report on Sina.com.cn.

The film, directed by Li Xin ("Dazzling"; 2002), will also star actor Huang Xiaoming ("Sacrifice"; 2010), Zhao Wei's classmate from the Beijing Film Academy.

It will be the first collaboration between them, who are both now A-listed stars.

Shooting is scheduled to start in February, with a release date set in the second half of 2011.

Zhao Wei, whose notable films include "Painted Skin" (2008) and "Mulan" (2009), disappeared from the public eye in late 2009 after finishing her part in Daniel Lee's martial-arts film, "14 Blades". She gave birth to her first child, a baby girl, this April.

SHE BACK!

Zhao Wei Lends Her Voice to "Eternal Moment"
    2011-02-10 11:31:42     CRIENGLISH.com       Web Editor: Duanlei

Although actress Zhao Wei is not listed as the main character in Zhang Yibai's urban romance "Eternal Moment" (Jiang Ai), you can hear her voice in the film, Sina.com reports.

In the movie which consists of three different stories, Zhao stars as the wife of Li Yapeng's character. The onscreen couple's marriage encounters difficulties when the husband meets his former college lover at a party. Zhao's character never appears in the movie, but her voice is heard during a phone call.

It will be Zhao's first big screen role since she left the limelight temporarily to give birth to a daughter last April

Chinese actress Zhao Wei is set to fulfill a dream that she has been harboring for the past five years - directing a feature film.

Zhao's agent confirmed that the wannabe-director has finalized the details of her directorial debut, and that filming is likely to start early next year.

The film, provisionally entitled "To Our Youth That Is Fading Away", will be an adaptation of the novel of the same name. It will tell the tale of a woman's emotional struggle with two men whom she meets again many years after their on-campus love triangle.

Stanley Kwan will be the film's executive producer. Casting is yet to begin.

Zhao Wei is one of the most popular Chinese actresses. She has won best actress awards for her roles in such films as "A Time to Love" (2005), "Painted Skin" (2008), "Mulan" (2009), and "14 Blades" (2010).

In 2006, Zhao became a graduate student studying directing at the Beijing Film Academy. Her alumni include Chen Kaige and Lu Chuan. However, a busy acting career and a short break to become a mother have postponed her graduation.

Zhao Wei Returns with 'Love'
2012-01-04 11:23:58     CRIENGLISH.com       Web Editor: Xie Tingting

Actress Zhao Wei plays a single mother in her new film "Love".

After having disappeared from the silver screen to give birth to a baby girl, actress Zhao Wei has returned to public view by picking up a role in the upcoming urban romance "Love".

Huayi Brothers, the company producing the film, recently released a series of still photos featuring Zhao and a video clip of her dancing in sexy dresses.

According to the video, Zhao plays the role of a single mother who lives in Beijing.

"My character belongs to a special group in society - single mothers," Zhao said as she talked about her thoughts on her role in the film. "If she had been an ordinary wife and mother, there would have not been such a huge attraction for me."

The film, directed by Doze Niu, has a budget of 75 million yuan (US$11.9 million) and will feature eight famous stars, including Shu Qi, Ethan Ruan, Mark Chao and Eddie Peng.

It will open in movie theaters around Valentine's Day.

Cast Members Promote Movie "LOVE" in Beijing

Vicki Zhao and Shu Qi reunite after 10 years

Actresses Vicki Zhao and Shu Qi were quick to pile praises on each other, after working together on their latest film Love.

Love is Vicki and Shu Qi's first project together since their collaboration in the movie So Close, 10 years ago.

The duo attended the gala premiere of Love in Beijing yesterday, together with director Doze Niu and other cast members like Mark Chao and Ivy Chen.

Since their last collaboration, both Vicki and have grown in many ways, with the former getting married and becoming a mother.

"We are all more matured after 10 years. She is also better than me now that she has become more caring," said Shu Qi of her co-star.

Expressing her disappointment on not sharing a scene with Vicki in the film, Shu Qi said, "I thought that I would be able to see her. But after waiting for so many days in Taipei, she never showed up."

Vicki plays a single mother in the movie Love, a far cry from reality where the actress enjoys a happy married life.

Perhaps anxious to share her joy, the actress also took the opportunity during the event to praise Shu Qi.

"If I were a man, I would marry a girl like her," she said.

When asked if Vicki knows Shu Qi's criteria for a partner, she laughingly replied, "I wouldn't know since I am not her but I am sure that the most important thing is sincerity."
