KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia -- Mark McMorris wasn't going to let a broken rib derail his Olympic plan.
The Canadian snowboarder needed acupuncture, massage therapy and plenty of rehab exercises to get back in form after crashing at the X Games late last month. He knew he would have to fight through the pain and impress the judges to reach the podium in slopestyle's Olympic debut.
He did just that Saturday, nailing his second run to win bronze and give Canada its first medal of the Sochi Games.
"I would have loved to be in the gold-medal position but with what I've been through in the last two weeks, just standing on the podium in general feels like a gold medal to me," said McMorris, a former X Games champion who was touted as a gold-medal contender in the lead-up to Sochi.
American Sage Kotsenburg won gold with a score of 93.50. He was just ahead of Norway's Staale Sandbech, who took silver with a 91.75.
McMorris, who scored 88.75, had to work with a team of specialists and therapists just to get to the starting gate. Once he had medical clearance and knew he wouldn't damage the injury any further, McMorris was determined to succeed.
"It didn't matter how much pain it was going to take," said coach Adam Burwell. "All he knew was he wasn't going to hurt himself anymore. He just needed to ride through it and he did it."
Btw, Vanessa Mae outta nowhere in the opening ceremony  Taking a break from her violin to do some pro skiing. What a talent.Holy shit, you weren't kidding.
And the Netherlands just won another gold thanks to Irene Wust on the 3000m speedskating :twothumbsOne of the Canadian broadcasters was talking about that about an hour ago or so, and he mentioned that out of all the medals that the Netherlands have EVER won at the Winter Olympics, only 2 of them were NOT in speed skating. So I guess that must mean that speed skating might be sort of popular there. :P

We came, we skated, we won.
And even BETTER than that, it was a pair of sisters that won them!
And we're beating all these winter countries in the medal ranking for the time being XDI'm happy with wherever we end up in the standings

TORONTO - Bashing Olympics coverage in the United States seems to have become a sport in itself for fans seeking live coverage south of the border, with a groundswell of NBC-targeted rage emerging in the Winter Games' opening weekend.
Holy shit, I know that I've teasted Americans before about how (in my opinion) limited their Olympic coverage is compared to what we Canadians get, but I never thought it would go THIS far. :huhuh
We came, we skated, we won.
Oops, we did it again!
Yeah...winning medals is totally dulls-ville. You guys must be really wishing that your speed skaters weren't just one-trick ponies. We came, we skated, we won.

They might even considering canceling the 10K because there were only 14 people participating.Apparently, some people have been hearing similar rumors for women's hockey. Since Canada and the U.S. have clearly the 2 dominant powers in the sport so far, if other countries aren't able to step up their women's teams soon, they may just scrap it until they're able to field more competitive teams.
Twitterverse has seen the #f***Canada hashtag a lot from angry/upset American hockey fans over the last couple of days,As an example...

Sweden’s Erik Karlsson isn’t leaving the 2014 Winter Olympics empty-handed, but according to him, he might as well be.
The Ottawa Senators defenseman was understandably upset after falling to Canada 3-0 in the gold medal game on Sunday, but his loss might be the Internet’s gain.
Following the game, Karlsson was asked what the silver medal means to him and it turns out he’s not too keen on second place.
“You will see when I put it out on eBay,” the 23-year-old said, according to Olympic News Service, via NBC Sports. Karlsson, who was named the tournament’s best defenseman after notching four goals and four assists, steered the conversation in a more serious direction, adding that one day he’ll be able to look back on the experience and appreciate it.
“It’s obviously something that will be great to look back on and be proud of, but it will take some time before I will be able to reflect on what it means,” Karlsson said.
But in the meantime, it wouldn’t hurt to check eBay, you know, just in case any Olympic medals are floating around out there.
Still, at the end of the day, the Olympics are more than just speedskating.Yep, they're also about many other winter Olympic sports like, for example, cross-country and alpine skiing, both of which ended up being pretty much a bust for almost anyone from a country outside of northern Europe.

MOSCOW - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has given a Mercedes-Benz to each Olympic medallist from the host country of the 2014 Sochi Games.
Medvedev reportedly gave away dozens of white Mercedes-Benz cars, decorated with the Russian Olympic team logo. While some of Russia's star athletes, like 15-year-old figure skater Julia Lipnitskaia or 17-year-old teammate Adelina Sotnikova, don't even have their licenses yet, Medvedev found a way around that problem by providing a driver — all services paid.
After an embarrassing sixth-place finish in the medals table at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, Russia finished at the top in Sochi.
Medvedev says that it is important for the government to continue supporting athletes financially.
