I was just wondering... How many Onyanko Club fans are there on this forum? I think many people haven't even heard about them, which is a pity.

If you are a fan, how long have you been one? Who is your favourite member? Onyanko fans, unite!

I myself have been a fan about three months.

Yeah, it's not much but it feels like I've been a fan for years. And I started listening to j-pop about a year ago, so...

Oh man, I suck at explaining things... But well, I'll try.

Onyanko Club debuted in 1985 and was the biggest 80's idol group in Japan. It had 52 members in the end, some of them got very famous like Shizuka Kudo (Takuya Kimura's wife, I think) or Kokusho Sayuri (she was on a recent Pussuma episode with Yaguchi Mari). Onyanko Club also had their own TV show called Yuuyake Nyan Nyan.

Onyanko Club's first single was called Sailor Fuku wo nugasanaide and the lyrics were kinda... well, perverted? XD Here's a link to the translation. They also had other "perverted" songs like Otto CHIKAN! and Oyoshi ni natte ne TEACHER. But they were very popular.

There were three sub-groups: Nyangilas, Ushiroyubi Sasaregumi (W's Nagisa no [...] is a cover of their song) and Ushirogami Hikaretai.

I heard that sailorfuku song, funny, but it amazed me what the lyrics meant..

Yes, they are. But I'm kinda happy that the Momusu girls don't sing about "showing some young skin to their teachers" or perverts or stuff like that

It just wouldn't suit them at all.

I'm a recent fan of them too, but i've only been able to find the 'best of' album and one with ushiroyubi. If anyone has any more...

I just bought their "BEST OF" collection CD recently... it's pretty cool! The songs are better than I thought they would be. It's dated, but in a good way.

I read somewhere that the guy that created Onyanko Club is the same guy who created AKB48... can anyone confirm this?

I don't know much about Onyanko Club yet but I'm trying to find out more... unfortunately their music videos seem to be impossible to find. A DVD release of their TV show (kind of like their version of Hello Morning suppossedly) was put out but it costs megabucks. Anyone seen it?

I really like Onyanko Club ... I just hate it that older Onyanko fans often seem to hate Momusu so much because Onyanko's so much better and Momusu is just a cheap imitation blah blah blah.

I'm a fan of both groups and imo you can't really compare them. Sure they were all girls and quite many, and they both have/had subgroups and soloists, but I doubt that when Tsunku formed Momusu he thought to himself hm, I'm gonna build a second Onyanko Club here.

In other news, Onyanko lasted only two years and Momusu/H!P is still around

Still, love them both ^^

My favorite Onyanko members are #8 Kokusho Sayuri (so pretty) and #19 Iwai Yukiko (so crazy)

I also like Kawai Sonoko, even though I don't quite get why she became so damn popular.

I heard that Kimura Takuya, of the boy band SMAP, is married to one of the Onyanko Club girls. Unsure if it's true.

Are there any websites or trackers that have Onyanko Club promotion videos? I've been searching but so far I've been unable to find anything.

There is a DVD release of their TV variety show but there doesn't seem to be an official DVD collection of their promotion videos.
