The love/hate relationship I have with Batman AC continues as I am now enjoying the fighting sections again, because I find them so easy and can get huge scores without really trying very hard. Which is really weird because I used to hate them with a passion and literally could not fight at all in the first game and at first in the second. The same glitches still bug me like before, but I just find my way around them and swat everyone away with 100+ hit combos because I'm the god damn Batman. (...Nightwing)
Because of that, I actually find the predator stuff annoying now (mostly because of Riddler's Revenge) which again is weird, because that was my favourite part of the first game. I still think it's cool, but because how the challenges are set up, in most cases you can only do the level in one specific way and it's really easy to fail the level because of that and have the Riddler insult you (really, really doesn't help) Still don't think I'll get Origins, and with Knight I'm super tempted, but I can wait. Or just like I vowed before, just beat the main story and never touch it again ^^

I know what you mean about the Predator areas, mostly I approached them how I saw fit, but if you were to do the Extreme version of the Predator challenges you can only really do it in a specific order by memorising guard patrols and knowing which gadgets to place at which time. I would maybe hold fire on Origins? Arkham Knight is out later this year after all and it might do you the power of good by giving it some time and not be Arkham-ed out by the time it arrives. Besides, Origins looks the exact same as City, so I'll just make a guess that you'll not like this one so much either!

Got Ground Zeroes yesterday and 'completed' it within 90 mins with a C rank. I say 'completed' because only after clearing the story mission, it said I had a total completion of 9%. It unlocks 4 side missions (another console exclusive one if you collect all the badges), Hard difficulty and in game challenges. Just beating one of the side missions took it up to 12%. I've already mentioned my justifications in getting it despite the controversial price (this is essentially a gift from someone else considering I used an Amazon gift card) and I'm perfectly fine with it. I'm that type of gamer to go scour a game for most if not all of it's content and better my skills from playing it anyway. Metal Gear Rising can be beaten in 3-4 hours by gamers, whilst I have put 40 (and still counting) into it because I love the actual gameplay of it so much.

Some reviews are bringing down the score due to the price which I don't necessarily agree with. The price should be noted in a review by all means, but to actually critique the games quality because of it is maybe a tad too harsh. Everyone has different budgets and value propositions for any kind of game after all and the price shouldn't have an impact on the game itself. It's also a tad contradictory, as games like Journey and Gone Home can be beaten in 1-2 hours, with little replayability beyond the first playthrough and still be universally praised. I'm not criticising those games, I'm just saying the price of those games at the time was never called into question whenever review sites started publishing their reviews. Prices always go down over time anyway. If it drops in price 6 months down the line, does that then push the review score up? It shouldn't, right?

The argument that this sets a dangerous industry precedent is also just reaching a little bit, because very few game franchises can really get away with doing this. If say, Call of Duty or Assassins Creed were releasing demos before their annual game came out, I doubt many would be up for buying it and rightly so. But it's been 7 years since MGS4 came out. The full MGS5 : Phantom Pain, doesn't even look like it will be out this year.

Also keep in mind, I wouldn't want to play a game as much if the gameplay wasn't fun, and to that end Ground Zeroes is a great game. Even though I'm terrible at it so far! I kept getting spotted. XD I think there are people too focused on the start-end time of the game and they forget that you can calm down, explore the environment and interact through the games systems. I managed to sneak into the place and rescue the prisoner only to have the guard spot me. The whole base went on alert and I was holding my ground. It was only looking through my weapons that I had flares, which I used to call in a helicopter for support. As I got that, I picked the prisoner up and started making my way through the battle to escape in a jeep. That wasn't scripted either, that was all through emergent gameplay mechanics. It looks really smooth and is gorgeous even on a PS3. Really excited for Phantom Pain as a result, it's looking to be a great game! Just take note, if you are interested in it, it might be worth knowing your Metal Gear fiction beforehand! This follows on from Peace Walker, the PSP port, so if you don't know the characters from it, you'll be left wondering who these characters are or why it's important to save them. I would definately recommend it to any Metal Gear fan.

congrats! Now you can finally move on to something else

Local video game store had a crazy deal today, so we picked up three XCOM games. I haven't played any of them before, but I have been eying the cover of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified for ages (the cover just looks so cool).

I have played through the first two missions of The Bureau, and though I find the combat EXTREMELY frustrating at times, I really enjoy the gameplay and the setting. The combat system reminds me of Mass Effect somehow - though there are noticeable differences.

I just started up XCOM Enemy Unknown just to see what the series is really like, since The Bureau is more of a stand alone spinoff, as far as I understand. THE TURN BASED TACTICAL COMBAT! I am loving everything about this so far. We'll see how I get along with it once I've played through a couple of missions :D

Enemy Unknown is so good! It's an incredibly dense game, with a lot of micromanagement involved, but it's accessible and the learning curve isn't that steep. I enjoyed the management of expanding my base and researching things inbetween missions, it's incredibly satisfying to plan ahead and see the impacts of that on the battlefield as the combat becomes richer and more varied as a result. And it's never ever easy, you're constantly on your toes as they introduce new enemy types constantly and you know that one wrong move could mean the end for your best soldier, who will never come back if he/she dies. It can be a very personal game if you let it. Take my advice: After you receive your funding from monthly reports, put it towards satellited and satellite uplinks. Satellites are so important!

Completed Brothers : A Tale Of Two Sons earlier. I felt that sometimes it doesn't control that great and it can work against you, but it doesn't detract from the fact that the game tells a powerful, Grimm fairytale-esque story really well. Pretty impressive for a game to tell a story that really resonates and touches you even though there is no real dialogue to speak of. I could go into more detail, but that would ruin some of the surprise of seeing it and more importantly, playing it for yourself. Play it and you'll see what I mean by the time the epilogue comes around. I would absolutely recommend it.

Yeah. Both XCOM games are really fun.

Enemy Unknown is like one game you'd choose if it was the only thing you could bring to a deserted island... with electricity. :P
It's like unlimited turn-based strategy fun. There's some minor bugs and the accuracy is gonna make you bang your head on the keyboard. It ain't perfect, but it's sure damn close.

Declassified is a little rough. But its really fun.
Yes, the gameplay totally rips off Mass Effect. That's a good thing in this case.
I wish there were more squad-based games like these.

Not exactly the video type of game post, but man, this post comparing Space Marines to Hello Kitty had me grinning like a school kid in a lolly shop/sweet shop/candy store (site has some NSFW content, but this post has none itself): http://dndwithpornstars.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/space-marines-are-opposite-of-hello.html

Recently finished Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons since it was free after subscribing to Playstation Plus. Even if I had to pay the regular price it' still a great game. The only faults that I had while playing is the controls and something that happens later on in the game which I will not spoil.

Let's see what else I can try for the next month from the PSN Store....

Finished Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea episode 2 last night and it was a really cool and appropriate ending to Infinite. Without spoiling anything, it was a vast improvement on episode 1, it was longer and had some completely different gameplay mechanics. It also provided some new answers and closure to both Infinite and the original Bioshock.

Sadly it was Irrational's swansong as well... With SS2, Bioshock and Infinite, they've made three of my all-time favorite games, probably more than anyone else on that list should I make a ranking.

Oh well, who knows what the future holds. Though my near future holds some Bioshock 1 and 2 replay sessions, I think. :P

If you've played Skyrim then you know first hand just how large the game world is. Imagine then, when I tell you that reports say that two locations in The Witcher 3 will be 3.5x larger than the whole Skyrim map.

Quote
The slides in the presentation mention the size of two of the areas included in the game: the city of Novigrad (72.25 km²) , and Skellige (64 km²) to a total of 136.25 km². Pretty big place. In contrast, Skyrim is 38.4 km².

I'll believe it when I see it. Besides, while it's hugely impressive, you also have to balance it out with making it look good and have interesting content so it doesn't feel empty. However, I have more than enough confidence that CD Projekt Red have the capabilities to do that, as The Witcher 2 was fantastic.

^Yeah and, as it occurred to me, even if it's big, there might be many buildings or other structures that aren't accessible at all, kind of like the mountains block some areas on Skyrim... It might be a huge, annoying maze  Still, not saying it can't be amazing.

You also have to keep into account things like getting from A to B. It could take a very long time indeed to just get to a particular place. You don't want players to get bored obviously so what do you do? Side quests, shops, NPC's? Even just geometry is important otherwise you'll feel like you're treading across the same alleys, past the same looking buildings etc. Your character's interaction with that world is also important. Games like Dragons Dogma or LA Noire create beautiful looking worlds but have very little to do in them other than getting from A to B, that the open world part of it feels redundant and like filler.

Let's also not forget, The Witcher 3 is an open world game now too. Based on what I've seen of the trailers there's also open fields, swampland areas and even crossing the ocean.  To cram all that environment in seems like a huge ask, but again, I've faith in the developers based on past experience. The past two games have done a great job in showing the world as it's portrayed in the books, so I can't wait to see it in a much grander scale.

^ I still haven't completed Skyrim, excluding the fact I don't play it everyday or religiously play it.  I also haven't started Dragonborn and Dawn Guard.

I've been playing Hitman-Absolution for free.  Pretty fun.

As someone who gets easily overwhelmed when it comes to even the most basic create your character feature in a game, the level of customisation you can make in upcoming Korean MMO Black Desert is just staggering. Seriously look at this, if only for the first 20 secs just to see what kind of characters you could create. Not only is the detail amazing but the graphics are good too, must need a good modern PC to run it. Granted, it loses some of it's magic when you consider that there is only one preset face for each character class, so people will look the same regardless of how you change up the body. But still, it's very intricate and you can't help but be impressed by what they show.

^ I always get underwhelmed at character creation  Sims 2 Bodyshop is still the one I've found most satisfying, which is weird as hell because it's OLD! Sims 3 loses without mods, Skyrim is laughable in comparison, Mass Effect is just more uncanny valley. I want to tweak my characters FOREVER so it annoys me how limited the options usually are.

That video got me excited but since you mentioned there's only one preset face, I guess it won't be all that amazing either >_<
