AKB48 member Akimoto Sayaka (22) successfully ran the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday. She finished the course in 6 hours, 50 minutes, and 6 seconds, barely within the 7-hour time limit for the marathon. As a result, AKB48 producer Akimoto Yasushi rewarded her efforts by announcing the reinstatement of Akimoto as the captain of Team K.

Akimoto personally resigned from the captain position last October after it was revealed that media creator Hiroi Oji (57) had spent a night at her apartment, though the situation was apparently innocent. Many fans have been supportive of her since then, sending messages assuring her that she didn’t need to quit.

Akimoto’s re-appointment as captain was accompanied by another announcement that same day. Her management agency, office48, revealed that she will be part of a new 4-member unit called DiVA. She is being grouped with fellow AKB48 members Umeda Ayaka (22), Masuda Yuka (19), and Miyazawa Sae (20). The group is expected to release their debut single this spring.

Let's hope they'll get songs which make use of their vocal abilities!

'Grats to Sayaka for finishing the marathon and returning to Team K captaincy, but I'll admit, that news is overshadowed by the DiVA announcement for me

Though I assume this means there'll be no more b-side DIVA anymore... I kinda liked having Mocchi/Nacchi in those songs..

This is just the best news ever after Sayaka being captain again

I'm so happy to see Sayaka and Sae again in a subunit, together, and to see that Yuka is finally getting some recognition. Same as Umechan, who is perfect for a vocal and DANCE unit, coz dancing is what she loves most. The four girls are talented, with Yuka and Sayaka being prominent on singing, while Sae and Umechan being perfect on dancing.

I can't really expect they defeat the other AKB unit, because the only really popular member here is Sae but I can expect a REALLY GOOD group.

My dream is they be like Da Pump. Sayaka and Yuka can share Issa's role (main singer), while Sae and Umechan can share Ken's role (main rapper). Yes, that would be orgasmic.

As for Kana, I don't really feel bad for her. She just doesn't fit the unit profile and we have to face her talent is way lower.

As for the name of the unit, I like it but I don't agree with it. It's too confusing. They should have just used another one.

Now I just need a Sayaka (or SaeYaka) PB and my life will be complete
