Death-Note goes to Hollywood
« on: May 03, 2009, 12:39:10 PM »
Quote
Japanese manga series Death-Note is to be made into a live-action film.

Warner Brothers has acquired the rights to the 13-volume bestselling comic series, which has already spawned three films in its home country, Variety reports.

The plot will centre on a college student who finds the titular note, which gives him the power to kill anyone he envisions while he writes their name down on the paper.

The movie adaptation will be taken from the first three instalments in the manga series, written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, rather than from the previous film incarnations.

Charley and Vlas Palapanides have signed to write the screenplay for Death-Note. Their previous credits include War of the Gods and Live Bet.

So they've bought the rights and no announcement has been officially made yet but it's looking likely. Who do you see as Light and L (I guarantee they won't be called that in the movie)? If rumours are to be believed, Zac Effron was approached for Light but, no. Just.....no.

But Zac's the only one in Hollywood that could pass off as someone portraying an anime/manga character XD

And I don't know, even if they've screwed up a lot of good Asian movies in the past, I'm curious to see how this'll turn out looking like.

^I have to agree, I'm curious as well.

I'll prolly go see it even if it looks bad (I went to see Dragonball LOL) and besides, I think ppl underestimate Zac Efron. Maybe it's just because he got his start in Firefly that I kinda respect the guy though so who knows. Also, I thought Speed Racer was pretty awesome so maybe not all hope is lost (for me anyway =P).

This will go like the most Hollywood movies.

Two hours Special Effects to cover bad actors and missing storyline!

First thing: Love both the anime and the manga, but the movies sucked. So let's really hope they do a good job.

And for the actors, just a quick though, but wouldn't ''Shea Le Boeuf'' (Feorgive for not writting his name right) be a good Kira ?
This is the guy who starred in the Transformers movie, and also played Indiana Jones son in the new movie.
He's a good actor, looks likhe a High School / College student, and since hollywood likes him, he could be a good choice.

I haven't seen the Japanese live action film,I've only seen episode one of the anime but it looks like I'd like it. There is a perfectly good live action version already! Why do they need to make another?

They could cast Will Smith as Light! That's all I can think of! Or Johnny Yong Bosch is my serious answer.

counting the days for this . . .
Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like the lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you?
