I wanna watch it, but I'm waiting for the subs. I bet some big group will do it, suppose to be the best drama of the season. :/

But I'm excited that Yamada has another drama ^_^ And with Erika! :D Though I wish she' wouldn't have another disease so quickly ._.;

I've watched the first episode but so and it was ok. not much has happened so far, more a build up for next ep I guess. But I'll definitly keep watching. Erika is too cute to miss :D

and Yamada Takayuki doesn't look like 19 like he says in the dorama :P

It wasn't bad actually. It seems like a lot of the fans of the movie didn't like the dorama version. I wasn't a fan of the movie...so somehow, I do like the dorama version more. :P

Can't wait for ep 2!

It's not old. It's sort of like a simutaneous release of both the movie and dorama version. The film version came out in May.

I first saw Erika in "Shinobi", in which she dies. Then in 1 litre, in which she dies. And now in Taiyou no Uta...will she die? hmm...

Are there any more films or dramas in which she dies?

Great actress and drama though! It's only my second drama ever, the first being 1 litre, and I'm hooked!

Title: Taiyo No Uta Thread
Post by: suki* on August 04, 2006, 08:37:51 PM
I'm already expecting it to happen...

**POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING!!**
Coz the preview storyline talks about how Yamada Takayuki's character, out of love for her, goes all out to fulfil her greatest wish for her before her time runs out. Her disease is a potentially fatal one and it's already said right from the beginning that her expected life-span is about due. In short, it is 99.9% certain that Amane Kaoru will die.

 Sawajiri DEFINITELY needs to take on some other roles.

Kaoru Amane official site (http://www.kaoruamane.com/)

Anyways,
Sadly... yeah she will most likely end up dying in the end :/

It's kinda sad that after 1 litre she will be know as "the girl who dies" for a while.

Anyways, I find the drama a little boring. It kinda moves too slow or something. I don't know, but it just doesn't really captivate me like 1 litre did. Or the movie for that matter.

But then again the movie is almost completely different from the drama. The main characters are the same and the overall story seems to be similar but the characters take on completely different personalities and there are many more subplots in the drama. It seems to me that the target audience for the drama is more like the older teens, while the movie was more family oriented.

Overall I thought the movie was alot more believeable than the drama is. Though the characters in the drama are actually alot more interesting.

I dunno... I hope that the drama gets better down the line though :/

from the rate of things and if they keep making hardsubs, we'll finish the drama at the end of the year...

Title: Taiyo No Uta Thread
Post by: lylestylez on September 05, 2006, 11:09:37 AM
i think this series is going pretty good. i juz finished watching episode 6 earlier and i must say that i'm enjoying it a lot! i haven't cried "1 litre of tears" while watching this series so far but it DOES have it's moments. i love the "taiyou no uta" song that kaoru amane sings. it's got me singing it too! hehe..i'm looking forward to more episodes soon!
Title: Taiyo No Uta Thread
Post by: teth on September 05, 2006, 01:48:07 PM
As a dorama series by itself, I think it's doing pretty badly right now. The story is progressing slowly and all over the place. All the minor characters are pointless (they can cut down the cast by half). The character Kouji is uninteresting and lacks focus (what the hell does he want!?). Asami is annoying with all her sobbing (just stop writing songs!).

At the beginning, Erika brought a lot of depth to her character...and it seemed like she was so good that the rest of the cast and the poor writing of the story couldn't keep up. Now, the story is going so bad that Erika/Kaoru just looks bored throughout the whole series. By this point, I honestly don't care about her dying.

If we have to compare to 1 Liter, then obviously, 1 Liter rules it by a mile.
Title: Taiyo No Uta Thread
Post by: yggg on September 05, 2006, 02:00:11 PM
As teth has summarised, bear in mind that it has nothing to do with the cast.. its just that the script expanded on the original story in seemingly strange ways
Title: Taiyo No Uta Thread
Post by: frblckstr1 on September 05, 2006, 06:39:17 PM
I think they do have a problem expanding a 1 1/2 hour movie to ?11? episodes
Although I think the movie skipped really fast from first meeting each other to singing to 'the end'.
The series is expanding on that 'mid section' currently.

In a sense hard to compare a Drama to a MOvie as.. a Movie is well 'limited' in Duration whereas a Drama you can sort of 'extend' it due to episodes so there is a lot of 'filler/fluff' that can make the drama better/worse compared to the movie... I have yet to finish the last 2 episodes as I only watch the HardSubs not Soft.

doramas are way better than movies, they have more time to build up the characters and whatnot. if u watched the dorama first and movie later (in any series, one i can think on now is sekai no chuushin) ull be disappointed in the movie.

But the thing is  this is ANOTHER SAD MOVIE - I have to watch Erika Sawajiri die again!! Just like 1 litre of tears.. IT was SO SAD.

Yah, But I'm planning to watch this anyways I heard its very good - and good to kill time ;)

Taiyo no Uta was a book that they made a movie out of. The movie stars YUI. The tv drama series is the one Sawajiri stars in.

i usually dont watch sad dramas/movie but i watched this for some reason. the girl is really cute, cuter than yui from the movie in my opinion. but she's not a very good singer. in these type of movies, i keep hoping for a good ending then it just slaps you right in the face =[ that's probably why i dont watch a lot of sad dramas. glad i watched it though.

owwhhh.. really loves this dorama... i cried a lot at the end of episode... this dorama is typically like 1 litre of tears but with the grow up of sawajira erika..... really nice.... and sawajira erika is awesome.... she's gotthe body when she has grown up  ;D

hmmm... for me.. this dorama make me realize, how lucky i am, as i could still enjoy the shine of the sun.... maybe there is some people who can't........

anyway2... this dorama is bad for sawajira erika's lover..... hehehe.... she kisses him...  :-[

Has Sawajiri Erika done anything since this?

at first, i thought this drama is 1 litre of tears rip off,, since it has erika sawajiri in it,, but then although the theme is the same,, the story is much lighter,, i mean 1 litre of tears is a tearjerker from eps 1 O.o

but this one i had a laugh here and there,, both the drama and the movie is good,, though i like the drama better ^^

the songs is good.. in drama performed by Erika Sawajiri
and in the movie performed by YUI.. ^^
especially in the movie when YUI performed Skyline..   :twothumbs *daisuki*
