Title: Report forum problems here
Post by: ebc on May 04, 2007, 03:35:16 AM
Just a quick thread for people to report forum problems.
I need people to post any problems they're having and the error message they get.

If possible, please also post the the approx. time of when the error occurred it may be easy just to say,

"I had so and so message appear about 1 minute ago"
And also what you were doing at the time of the problem, what part of the forum you were in etc.
That will be fine and I'll try and see what I can do to resolve the problem.

I am still not totally sure of what is causing the problems but the tracker page could be one of the causes so it is down until I can figure something out.

Looks like for the past few days we've been back to getting downloads ok from gocchin but 404 file not found from filedump.  Is that what we are experiencing right now?  (Just making sure it's not just me, somehow?)

Are there other problems still, ebc, or have most things settled down now?  Hope you're getting to eat, sleep and other important stuff!

filedump is off at the moment.
I'll turn it on tomorrow and see how the forum goes, as long as there's not problems then i'll leave it on again.
Sorry for the downtime

Heh, it's totally ok - you do what you gotta do!  If it needs to stay off for a while, I can be patient   ;D  It's only that I wondered what happened   ???   But thanks for everything!!

In your profile, click "Look and Layout Preferences", then where it says "Time Offset" click "auto detect" and it'll automatically get the right time from your pc clock, then remember to save your profile.

I meant to bring this up a long time ago, but completely forgot.

Maybe it doesn't really count as a problem, maybe more of a suggestion. When posts get deleted because they're inappropriate or whatever, they just disappear like they were never there. I've seen on other forums where the post spot is there, but the message is deleted with an admin saying why the post was deleted. I like the last way I mentioned more because there have been a lot of times I've read or written a post, then gone back to that thread and to see the posts are gone. Sometimes I don't remember that if I posted my message or not(Sometimes I type out a post only to decide that it's not worth posting) or post it again not knowing what I did was wrong. I've had a couple of posts deleted (I think) but I didn't feel my comment was anything bad or much worse than some posts that weren't deleted, so I didn't know what the problem was.

^ Hmm. That is interesting. I make it a habit to let people know why their thread is moved/deleted, for what reason via PM, etc. Like *daigong edit*

Thanks arun, I'll address this with The Crack Staff. :thumbsup

Is Chat considered a forum problem too?

When I try to access the Live Chat, its keep giving me "Loading Applet". BTW, I am using Opera 9.21 with the newest JRE (Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.2).

I have to use this Live Chat to access IRC, because after re-formatting my Tablet PC, my Trillian can't connect to spacetronix anymore.

Yeah I've been chasing up on this problem with the webhost for the last few hours but haven't had any reply.

I guess it'll come back eventually, in the mean time I'll put up another banner.

Title: Re: Report forum problems here
Post by: ebc on January 01, 2008, 11:35:21 PM
I've unlocked this thread again,
I woke up this morning and couldn't load any pages on the forum,
Hopefully I've fixed it for now but I need to get people to let me know when it happens, so report here if you get any messages saying stuff like the smf database was busy etc.

The problems could be related to the tracker cause it's relatively new software. But I was wondering if anyone had been experiencing slow forum browsing in previous weeks, before the tracker was here. I'm trying to work out the the exact problem is.

Title: Re: Report forum problems here

I sometimes have to wait a long time before the page refreshes when I submit a reply, upto like a minute, but that has been going on for a long time time.

Also some 'status.icq' picture alsmost never loads (or at least takes ages) this is also happening for some time now.

So, actually nothing new current, board is currently running ok.
Title: Re: Report forum problems here
Post by: JFC on January 03, 2008, 08:13:55 PM
For some reason the board seems to be a bit slower for me today. It's nothing too major, threads just seem to take a bit longer (~10 sec or so) to load up than they usually do.
Title: Re: Report forum problems here
Post by: Asmodai on January 03, 2008, 08:21:16 PM
I just had some slowdown opening multiple threads in different tabs. Single tabbed browsing seems OK.
Title: Re: Report forum problems here

Had something a lil weird this morning.

I usually have the color set to black for the forum and the text would be white.
Waking up and checking the forum, I found that the text had all gone black for every post on the forum.
The index page is fine, with white text on the black background color, but not for the posts, which wasn't like this before.

I use FireFox, but I also checked it with IE, and it was the same.
The settings for my firefox are ok, I've not changed them, and I've even restarted firefox a few times to see if that would help, but no change.

I had to change the forum color to be able to read posts, but my main reason I keep the color set to black is that the other colors are a bit to bright for my eyes, even with the brightness turned all the way down on my monitor.
Have to lower the contrast now to compensate.

There were some problems with the forum earlier which required files to be recovered from an earlier date.
So if your avatar has changed to one of an earlier date, that's the reason.
No posts were lost though.

It works fine when I switch to Firefox, but I wish I could use Safari...

Ok, something a lil strange going on since the weirdness with the postwhoring thread yesterday.

When I click on the link thats supposed to take me to the most recent post, its actually taking me me to page 367 of the postwhoring thread, and thats only when I click the most recent post link for the postwhoring thread on the index page.

If I go into the Hip Joint first and then click the most recent post link, it'll work properly then.
Oh, and I'm not really sure what might have happened with the postwhoring thread yesterday.

Edit:

It seems to have been fixed now, everything working like it should. :)

I've already gone to my profile to check the box that says "Hide email address" yet it seems to be permanently there.

More of a question than a problem. Is it no longer necessary to use the Youtube tags when/if we want to embed a video in a post?

I put the following in the following post. This is EXACTLY how the text in the post currently stands (tagged video on top, full URL underneath):
Code: [Select]
Lego-Vader FTW.

[youtube=425,350]Sv5iEK-IEzw[/youtube]

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv5iEK-IEzw
http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=1622.msg489263#msg489263

Now for some reason, on my Firefox if I use the tags I don't see the video window that uses the tags, but the full URL of the video works.

If I look at the same post with Internet Explorer, I see windows for both the tagged and the non-tagged versions.

Now, granted I just switched to FF3 today, but I don't think that's the problem, as I had noticed the same thing happening on Thursday when I posted the full URL to a video in the Ogawa Makoto thread where she speaks English. The page on YouTube had said that the uploader had disabled embedding, so I just posted the full URL intending it to be a link. But then when I hit the Post button I found that the video window popped up instead.

Title: Re: Report forum problems here
Post by: ebc on September 15, 2008, 02:25:08 AM
It's a Java based chat so you have to allow the script to install itself.
Depending on what browser you use, usually there'll be a message pop up saying it is about to install and if you want to allow it to.
If you can't get the message to come up, try another browser and you should eventually see it. Once you install the Java script then the chat will load. If you still can't get it to work you could just try using a client like mirc and connecting using the instructions in this thread http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=990.0

If you use Opera browser you can just copy and paste this link and the Chat will open :) irc://spacetronix.net/jph!p

For some reason my sig won't show up. First imageshack wouldn't work (the pictures didn't show) and for a while tinypic worked, but now that doesn't work either. I'm not exactly sure if this is a forum problem or rather something to do with my computer. Though it's not super bothersome, I thought I'd ask if anyone else can see it.

nothing. but your sig link is in the source.

try to put [i m g] http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/2243/mhyg5.png [/ i m g] as your sig without space.

Hiragana and Katakana text isn't displaying on the x-mas theme.
Did before, but now it's all boxes..
(the default theme displays correctly...but I like the x-mas one more)

:edit: don't know if someone had a look and fixed it, but it's now displaying fine..

Not really a problem to report, but rather a question to ask.

What are the new maximum permitted dimensions & filesizes for avatars here? There are a few people here now that are sporting avatars taller and/or wider than the old standard of 100 pixels.

The limit has been changed to 100x150 pixels for avatars, but the code of conduct hasn't yet been edited because we only "reached an agreement" yesterday... So go ahead and make new avas!!

However the sig limits haven't been changed!!!

Noice. One thing I noticed, if a 100x150 is remote-linked from a Photobucket account the forum resizes it to 100x100. To get it to "stay" 100x150 I had to directly upload mine straight to the forum.

I often get it now... it happens on both my pc (Win XP) and notebook (Win7) so I don't think it's the OS...

It could be my connection though, so I'll try and open JPHip from work and see if the same problem happens

Edit: happened at work too T_T though not as often. I also tried with IE7, IE8, and Chrome. same thing.

I don't know if it's an issue on my end or not, but I've noticed that everytime I load up the main forum page it temporarily freezes my browser, and I think it has something to do with the shoutbox, because whenever it's open I would be stuck for at least 15-20 seconds, and even when it's closed I still experience a short, one second freeze. I'm using Firefox 3.5.3 if that helps in any way.

Yeah, that's what I've done, but there's still that one-second delay that happens right after the page loads. I suppose I could live with that (I've been spoiled by a fast internet connection :P), but the long delay when the shoutbox is open is still a bit of a concern.

With things overlapping, maybe you should include your screen resolution.

Since the forum now seems to use sizing relative to your screen resolution instead of absolute dimensions, knowing what size screen resolution you're using should help with testing it.

The radio buttons don't work for me either.  When I select "Specify avatar by URL", it still says "Choose File" to the right.

I guess I can get used to the new theme (still, I loved the peachy colored old one ;_;).
I have to use the dark version of the theme since the other one is too white and still here is my problem,
when you have some time to spare, could you like... darken the text boxes and input fields of the dark version.
Even though it's much better than the white version the contrast of the darkness and everything pure white has some uncomfortable feeling for me.
I hope that's it at least, I'm not 100% sure.

When previewing a new post, emoticons will be replaced with the correct .gif file on the initial preview.
However, if you click preview again, the gif will be replaced with the emoticon's text.  This appears to happen with all emoticons.

For example, if I type in [colon]tama-mad[colon], then hit "preview" from the main thread, the preview will show (http://forum.jphip.com/Smileys/default/tama_mad_f.gif)
When I click the preview button again (when the formatting options and clickable emoticons are shown), the picture is not shown.

This is the case for both IE and Chrome.

Also, I'm not sure if this was how it worked before, but certain emoticons such as "thumb up" do not insert a trailing colon into the post text when clicked.
Title: Re: Report forum problems here
Post by: Slack on March 22, 2010, 08:12:23 AM
The Profile page's "toggle toolbar" links are inconsistently placed and use the wrong graphics.
Observed on both IE8 and Chrome.

If the toolbar were on the right side, these would be correct, but since it is on the left, the arrows should point the opposite directions, and the "toggle on" link (second pic) should be on the left side.

Okay the forum's back again. The forum soft's updated and we're working on fixing the themes. For now you can only use the default theme, I'll work on adding the dark version later tonight.

If something regarding layout or forum functionality doesn't work or does something silly, let me know. Anything mentioned prior to this post in this thread is under inspection.

There could be more downtime later as we still probably need to test some other stuff.

Still some issues with the thank you mod doing unnecessary page refreshing sometimes, looking into that...

Complain is all I do, but the link color on the dark theme is too bright now. And also the 'Posted by:' text color on the reply page topic summary, but that's not nearly as prominent.

not really a priority 0 bug but :
when you're posting and get the "Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post." message, and then click the preview button, you'll display the new post
The problem is, each time you click preview it adds the new post again xD

(http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w179/sh15uy4/th_daidaidai1.jpg) (http://s176.photobucket.com/albums/w179/sh15uy4/daidaidai1.jpg)

I guess it more belongs to the SMF source than jphip customization.

Hah that preview thingy is funny, yeah gotta see if it can be reasonably modded out.

As for the thank yous, are you guys sure you aren't just getting thanked for some post you did waay back?

During the previous update, when we went to SMF 2.0, we had to reset the names shown in thank you-posts, but the data for which posts got thanked as well as the total number are still there, just not all the name info.

I think the new servers email seems to be working better than the old one. Before you probably didn't get the emails for whatever reason I'm not sure. Anyway if you want you can turn the option off in your profile in the Personal Messaging options, look for "Notify by email every time you receive a personal message:"

Ok so that was fun.

Basically what happened was our wonderful host, Leaseweb gave one of our IP's (the one our forum is on) to another customer. I guess there is a funny side and that's that the server it was given to was hosting porn haha. Some of you lucky ones might have gotten a glimpse of the page.
It kinda had me worried that we'd been hacked at first but then there wasn't any changes made to our server at all so after some tracing I realised our IP had been taken. Anyhoo good thing we have another 3 we could move to so it was just a matter of redirecting to one of those for now till we get our ip back >:|

Oh yeah if you missed the porn page and want to see it just go to sica.jphip.com hahaha so yeah until they give our ip back sica has turned dirty sica.

^ Images from the AKB picroda have currently been blocked from hotlinking; if you want to view the pictures, you're going to have to view them through the picroda or the forum.
Title: Re: Report forum problems here
Post by: MMxERIC on October 13, 2010, 11:56:40 AM
As the no. of pics in picroda increases so fast
sometimes it got 40 new pages in 5 days only

I did access the pics through the piroda
but after viewing pics for about 40 pages
I got this image :tama-mad: by clicking on the thumbnail directly

I can still view the pics by right click and open the link in new window
or DL them with download agent
however that is a bit inconvenient
Title: Re: Report forum problems here
Post by: jafeijai on October 13, 2010, 02:37:14 PM
^ I'm not sure exactly why that happens (I'm not the tech head here), but here's a suggestion: instead of viewing them through the picroda then, why not view them through the forum? Whenever pictures are uploaded there, the majority of the time it was uploaded by a user of the forum and will be used on the forum. And as a bonus, you can interact with the people in the forum as well!
Title: Re: Report forum problems here

If you get angryman gifs when clicking from the forum, picroda or other jphip sites, it's a browser issue.

I'm aware of at least opera handling "open in background" and ctrl-shift-click in different way (the first doesn't seem to pass the referer) so other browsers might have similarly strange behaviour.

The "About 40 pages" doesn't make any sense though. There's no difference in viewing from the first page to viewing from the last page of pictures, I can guarantee that.
Title: Re: Report forum problems here
Post by: Mucca on October 13, 2010, 05:43:06 PM
I have no idea if this will apply to anyone else, but I noticed the angryman gifs when I browsed the Picroda too (and the odd occasion when I browsed the AKB areas of the forum itself), and the problem -- for me -- was related to the Web Developer Add-on for Firefox. By default, the add-on has the "Disable Referrers" option enabled, which prompted the angryman gifs. Once I disabled that option, the images loaded properly.

Bumping this thread
As you all know we had some down time, possibly the longest ever! (can blame the server host for being so slow with new server order)
Anyhoo the forum and front page for jphip.com are now on new server while other sites are on the old server, they'll move over to the new one soon.
If you get any error message copy and paste them here for us to look at. The forum did have to go through an update and the themes possibly aren't compatible with this version but we'll see how we go.

If the forum dies again then we'll know there's probably something wrong with the files and database since now we're on a fresh new server so there shouldn't be any problems.

You can get to the radio stream via radio.jphip.com address

Title: is there a bug in the search engine
Post by: aponesa on November 16, 2010, 02:31:03 AM
All my posts have the DVD codes with brackets in them for easier searching.

Last night [my time] I searched for PCBE-11927, which is my post on Saaya's 16 video and could not find it. I did a second search with brackets [PCBE-11927] and found it.

This morning, both search strings with or without brackets could be found.

Am I doing something wrong or there is really a tiny bug in the system?
Title: Re: is there a bug in the search engine
Post by: Stryfe on November 16, 2010, 03:27:29 AM
Well, one thing comes to mind immediately...

The quick-search works in a way that it searches the forum you're currently at, and all its child-forums and threads.

So if you'd be like in the 'Korean' ladylove section when you did the search, you wouldn't find anything with PCBE-11927.

So, did you run both searches the same way, or rather, from the same place?

I don't know if this is just me or a problem with the forum but I keep getting signed out!
I've never been timed out/logged out before on the forum other than when I log on from a different computer or clear the history on my laptop...

I was signed out yesterday morning and it was ok after that but I had to log in again this morning and after typing out a post in the PW thread I clicked send and had to log in again... So I don't know what it is... My history hasn't been cleared recently and I've never had a problem with JPHiP keeping me signed in before...

Either I'm being hacked (WHY?), JPHiP is having issues keeping me/members signed in or there's something wrong with selecting "Forever"/ticking "always keep me signed in" feature- if so, I just set it to 9999minutes so I'll be alright for a bit now I hope! D:

Title: Re: Report forum problems here
Post by: ebc on January 10, 2011, 06:17:26 AM
Ok it looks like some other SMF forums have begun to have the same problem. The logging out happens when too many attempts have been made trying to log in with your username. It seems the problem hasn't been happening to everyone. Just some people.

The problem seems to be caused by a bot that tries to log in at random with usernames from the forum. The login attempts seem to be once every 10minutes though so I don't suspect anyone will have their account broken into, but if you do suspect something please let me know.
I've installed a mod that is meant to block these bots but we'll see how it goes.

Twiss I'm not sure about the avatar problem other than try clearing your browser cache although your probably already have. The avatars are meant to resize via a javascript, I know this can sometimes be buggy.

Have the hotlinking/tammad settings on the picroda changed recently? I couldn't open photos in the AKB48 section, but found I could open in a new tab... However, I've been using the picroda urls alot recently to upload photos onto tumblr (whilst crediting the picroda at the same time to promote the site :D ) and now while having this trouble opening the links- it won't upload through tumblr...
Is this permenant or an error? :?
I suppose I could right click and save everything I need for tumblr but I'll use so many links.... feels like stealing! DX

Also all picroda pics in forum post are giving me same error. Only AKB pics are malfunctioning.

Logging out cures problem, so it has to be my user related. :(

Reason for downtime?
Server decided to fall off the net, couldn't contact it. Tried rebooting numerous times with no luck. In the end had to wait for the Host to reboot it for us and now it's finally back.
This time I'm setting up the 2nd server so it can act as a proper backup in case of this kind of thing happening again. Let's hope it doesn't though.

Yeah, there's been a strange DNS issue. I couldn't get here for a day until I used a different net connection at work and realised there's nothing wrong with the server it's just not resolving the address.
Hope it's all ok now though.

Post like: "Thank you" and "She is cool" etc do not add anything.

Every time I try to get on the forums on my own computer, I get redirected to some random ad page. I don't know what to do and I'm not able to be active because of this :/
It's the same for the picroda, and home page too.

It's been doing this since like January. And when I'm on a different computer it's not a problem

That kind of problem sounds like there might be a virus or malware on your computer -- lots of them can mess with your hosts file.
Here's a good free scanner that might help:

For people like you, we have the rule: "Have a take, don't suck or you'll get run."

You suck.

That is the problem.

Also,
Quote
b) Think Before You Speak/Act

i) If you know that something that you are going to do/say is going to potentially upset people, do NOT do/say it.
http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=3014.0 (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=3014.0)

Don't even try to pretend that half your "opinions" aren't posted simply to stir a reaction. The problem isn't posting criticism. The problem is that ALL YOU EVER POST (in my section) are negative comments. Even your fucking signature is negative. And there's no use referencing like 2 posts from your past that were actually ok. It won't convince anyone that you actually have a nice and loving character and ppl are being unjustly mean to you.

As far as I'm concerned, your vocabulary consists of one word and that is "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH". And that gets tiring.

Post by: ebc on January 24, 2012, 01:53:39 PM
Sooo, we're currently running off our backup server cause seems there's a problem with the harddrive in our main one. Or whatever this error means "kernel: [23122895.131788] ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0"

I have no idea, but google seems to say harddrive problems, so hopefully this server will hold up until we get the main one fixed. It might be a bit slow at first.

Also sorry we lost a day of posts cause of the problems, had to restore this database from backup.

I'll re-enable the picroda tomorrow, just need to sort out some other stuff.

I've been trying to do a search here on the forum after I saw one of my YouTube videos was embedded somewhere on the forums, but every time I try, it says something like "searches are no allowed on this forum." Is it something because I haven't made enough posts or something to do specifically with my account, or is this just something that is disabled on the whole forum for everyone? Thanks if anyone has the answer.

It is (still) disabled due to server overload and technical difficulties (tm). We'll address the problem again in the next forum update.

Our tracker has been unavailable for a few months. We're having some technical difficulties. The picture is just temporary. There's no estimated time when the tracker will be available again, sadly.

After replying to a post, we are taken the the home page rather than to the thread where we were. Is it by design or something missed?

Check your forum settings: click on Profile at the top of the page, then look for Modify Profile and click on Look and Layout. Make sure Return to topics after posting by default is checked.

Alternatively, when you're replying to a post, click on Attachments and other options and make sure Return to this topic is also checked.

it's been happening to me for about a month now, figured it would fix itself, but it hasn't.

everytime i visit the forum, i have to log in. whether it's from a brand new browser session, to just coming back a few minutes later.

even tho i've tried setting the dropdown menu to "Forever"
and the "Minutes to stay logged in" as "9999"
and also the "Always stay logged in" checkmarked.

I just want to make sure that it's not just me that's getting this.

I just started getting this yesterday, but has anyone else here noticed that YouTube videos don't always embed properly? I don't mean like if you post it with "HTTPS" instead of "HTTP". What I'm noticing is that instead of showing the videos that they're supposed to, the URL of the embedded YouTube videos gets changed and then ends up leading to this:
Code: [Select]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKY3scPIMd8https://youtube.com/devicesupport (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKY3scPIMd8#ws)

Clicking to watch the video directly on it's YouTube page gave me this (the second screencap being done in multiple languages within the video).
(http://picroda.jphip.com/misc/jphip08494.png) (http://picroda.jphip.com/misc/jphip08495.png)

Apparently it has something to do with this? Not entirely sure though because it looks like they're focusing on TVs, video game systems, and mobile devices (not necessarily desktop/computer internet browsers).

Again, I just wanted to make sure that it's not just me getting this. My computer at home is just over a year and a half old, and all of it's software is up to date. I'm also getting it at (and posting this from) this computer that I'm using here at the school at which I'm working today (it's a modern, up to date computer lab that this school uses for programming and cyber/online security classes).

Issue Fixed

Looks like our Youtube auto embed mod had stopped working in the last couple of days. I've uninstalled that one and installed a new one which should embed the videos properly.

But any videos that were posted in the last 1-2 days might need to be edited and reposted with the correct link or they'll just display the device support video.

The mod actually should support https links too so that's a plus

Awesome sauce. :thumbsup

I hate to be a bother again, but now it looks like the new embed mod doesn't work with videos from other sites like DailyMotion, Youku, Tudou.
:mon sweat:

Obviously, it's not the absolute end of the world if this new mod won't let vids from other sites embed, as the URL link will still be there anyway.

EDIT: Don't know about anyone else, but during the last few hours, if I click the "preview" button, the forum thinks I'm clicking the "post" button instead.

Also, when I go to "modify" a post, if I click the "preview" button to check and make sure that my edits have been done properly, the forum not only acts as if I've hit the "post"/"save button, but it double-posts it as well.

Basically, I'm getting this:
"preview" button = post now
"modify post" + "preview" = double post now

Is it just me, or has the forum been subject to frequent 502 and/or 504 errors over the last few days? I've personally noticed them recently happening around the late mornings and early afternoons (Central Standard Time - GMT-6); the forum will give me a 502 or a 504 error message and will stay like that for anywhere between 10 minutes to almost an hour.

Ok, today this has been happening more frequently and sometimes for longer periods of time. Today alone it seems to be happening for me at least once an hour, sometimes being short, at least one time today being longer than an hour. Often I'll make a post, and then when I go to open/check out another thread the forum will give me one of those errors (usually a 502 at first, then sometimes changing to a 504).

Frequent "Bad Gateway" when opening pages today.

Yeah I've been trying to fix the bad gateway issues. It's been difficult to troubleshoot as there's nothing coming up in the logs when it happens.
I've just updated the server to PHP 5.6 as some people with similar issues suggested doing. We'll see how it goes.

There's actually a few issues with Tapatalk that may mean we do not continue with it.

Firstly I can't get it to install the latest version with the modifications we have done. So I'd have to manually install it.
Secondly there are reports of them stealing user data and a feature which uploads entire forum user database (usernames email addresses etc) to Tapatalk, which is not something I think we want them to have.

Thnx for the update.  Keep up the good work :thumbsup

Um, is it just me, or the thanks system is gone again without a notice or warning?
Title: Re: Report forum problems here

Still works just fine for me. Sometimes, when a page hasn't fully completed loading (like a slow image/element in an earlier post) the Thanks function won't appear, so you gotta scroll through the page to see what's lagging behind. Also, hitting the stop button on your browser might not work; gotta wait for everything to load before the Thanks button/status shows up.

Well, guests don't see the Thanks-system, were your friends logged in?

The only time it hasn't displayed for me is like J-Triumf said... SMF loads it last, so sites that hang or are dead (such as image hosts) may cause problems when used in sigs, for example. You could also try opening the developer console, reloading the page and seeing if there's any warnings/errors in the message log.

yes, my friends are all readers and writers from here, they were logged in and they were surprised it's gone. I will try checking for errors like you suggested and report back in here

Some of the threads are not showing up on the H!P section. For example, "The Sato Masaki thread" is not showing up on the index.

I had to use google just to find the link to the Morning Musume thread earlier. After I posted on the thread, it reappeared again.

Damn, that spammer earlier must have screwed some things up.

Can you elaborate what is missing and from where?

I think I went after that spammer with a little too much force, but I didn't expect problems of this scale, hah.

Ok I think I've located the problem, this is gonna take a moment of fixing...

Okay things SHOULD be fixed now, holler if you can't find a thread or something behaves weirdly.

Well, that was a pesky little problem.

Basically, while we have plenty of disk space, our temp folder was chock full of shoutcast radio stuff and wasn't getting emptied properly. And as all image uploads go through the temp folder... durr.

Anyway, it should be fixed now, sorry it took so long. :P

Title: IGNORE TOPIC
Post by: Saburo on January 02, 2021, 12:44:29 AM
Just curious: any way of enabling "ignore topic" in the SMF software? https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1193

Ignore Boards is already a thing. It's useful for weeding out stuff I don't care for but I'd like to be able to mute a few specific topics as well. Thanks.

Also: what's the quickest way to report spammy profiles?
Title: Re: Report forum problems here

what's the quickest way to report spammy profiles?

Just use the "report to moderator" link in the post for spammers, that's the official way. We'll get to it as soon as we can.

Of course if there's something particularly egregious (not just regular spam, but illegal/underage stuff) you can post here for some extra attention.

But still, I'd rather this thread was for actual forum software/functionality issues.

We haven't had a forum software upgrade in ages since things are functional (enough) but I'll put "ignore topics" in the list of things to look at if we update things, at least.

Is there anything that can be done? e.g. require Captchas for new account registration.
