The momentum is clearly on the Lakers side, Game 4 was just a blip in what the Lakers can really do. A wild greasy Gasol can take care of The Ticket Stub, the reason while Kobe has more rings than Boston's Big Three combined is cuz they do not have the heart of champion. KG chokes up, Paul Pierce's improved defense involves screaming like a little girl and getting wheeled off in a chair, and Ray Allen. Aight, dude is balls. Laker fan ain't gonna scream "CANCER" like Utah fan at Derek Fisher. Other than that, Sam Cassell and PJ Brown can bring their trickery but ... Farmar and Sasha got no FEAR.

Kobe likes the fear. Fear is KG settling for jumpers while missing 3 critical free throws and tip in late in the game. Fear is Paul Pierce flopping and whining like a ballerina, carted off in a wheelchair.

Congratz KG, RA, and PP finally winning their first ring. I definitely feel they should have more rings (maybe 2 more rings?) to come if they can maintain the current roster or even upgrade some positions.

U.S. basketball roster for Olympics to be released next week

DURHAM, N.C. -- Calling it "the toughest decision" facing USA Basketball since it began using professional players, U.S. Olympic team coach Mike Krzyzewski said the 12-man roster for this summer's Beijing Games will be released Monday.

Krzyzewski, Duke's Hall of Fame coach, said the roster will be announced during a news conference in Chicago.

"The pool of players that we have have all made commitments and have given time and effort," Krzyzewski said Tuesday during his annual summer news conference in Durham. "Really we have more people qualified for those 12 spots than we can take, so that's what makes it tough. There will be people we've coached, either last summer or the summer before, who will not be on this team."

Sonics owner acknowledges making mistakes in Seattle

SEATTLE -- SuperSonics owner Clay Bennett testified Wednesday that he made mistakes in dealing with the city of Seattle after he bought the team in 2006.

"We bought this team with grand visions for success," he said. "Did we do everything right, and did we understand everything there was to understand? Certainly not."

Bennett began his second day on the witness stand in a federal trial over the Sonics' lease at KeyArena under friendly questioning from team attorney Brad Keller, and didn't specify his mistakes.

He finished shortly before noon and was replaced on the stand by Sonics president Danny Barth, who discussed the team's finances, charitable work and the difficulty of running the business when it's unclear where the Sonics will play next year. He said 23 of 125 employees have quit in the last six months.

Wade, Prince, Redd get spots on U.S. Olympic basketball team

Barring a last-moment change of plans, Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade, Detroit Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince and Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Redd are heading to Beijing.

Olympic and NBA sources have confirmed the trio will be named to the 12-man Beijing Olympics roster Monday at a news conference in Chicago.

Draft Rater: Which big men will become the best pros?

The Finals just ended, so I guess the draft must be tomorrow.

OK, not quite, but it's just around the corner. And so it's time to bust out the calculator for the new and improved version of my Draft Rater.

Some of you might have read my draft preview a year ago, in which I took a look at players' college stats and projected what their pro performance might be.

That model worked reasonably well, which is to say that it appeared to be an improvement on the actual picks that were made in the draft. On the other hand, it still spat out several Picks That Will Get You Fired (Paul Davis, anyone?), and it seemed to have a particular problem with frontcourt players.

Wolves in position to shape draft

Putting the Timberwolves in charge of their own pick in the first round of the NBA draft is challenging enough. Flipping them the keys for what happens through the rest of the lottery selections, the entire first round or 58 of the 60 picks overall could be an adventure.

Sitting at No. 3 -- after Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley, the consensus choices for Nos. 1-2, go in some order -- what the Wolves do at that juncture could affect all the teams lining up behind them, at least through any alleged second tier, the size of which changes according to the club or expert doing the projecting.

Iverson to stay with Nuggets for last year of contract

Allen Iverson won't opt out of his contract with the Denver Nuggets, his agent told The Rocky Mountain News.

"Things have gone well for him [in Denver]," agent Leon Rose was quoted as saying of Iverson, who is due to make $20.84 million next year. 'He's looking forward to taking the team [further]."

Iverson had a contract that would have left him the option of opting out of his deal after the season and becoming a free agent.

Instead, he will be with the Nuggets in their bid to qualify for the playoffs for the third time in his first three seasons.

Rose said Iverson was excited about the team's prospects and was looking forward to finishing his career in Denver.

Iverson, 33, was traded to Denver from the Philadelphia 76ers in 2006 in a nasty separation with the team that made him the No. 1 overall draft pick and a worldwide superstar.

Iverson ranked third in the league in scoring in 2007-08, with 26.4 points per game.

Carmelo's agent assured forward will not be traded

The agent for Carmelo Anthony says the Denver Nuggets have told him they will not trade the two-time All-Star forward this summer.

"He's not going to be moved," Calvin Andrews said in a telephone interview Sunday. "It's not happening. We've been given assurances from the owner on down."

Three sources with knowledge of the situation said Saturday afternoon that Andrews, and possibly Anthony, had planned to meet with the Nuggets on Monday to discuss Anthony's future. Anthony, who does not want to be traded, is bothered by his name being mentioned in rumors and upset because the Nuggets have not come out publicly and denounced a possible trade, the sources said.

The player selections were approved by the USA Basketball Executive Committee, and will be nominated to the United States Olympic Committee to participate in the 2008 Olympic Games.
