Raekwon Signs With EMI, Finds Home For Cuban Linx 2

During a recent interview with Connecticut radio station 93.7, Wu-Tang rapper Raekwon revealed his new label home. Rae told the “On Air Idiots” show that the long delayed sequel to his seminal 1995 solo debut Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is finished and will be released on EMI Records. “Project is vicious right now, it’s done,” he said. “I just closed my deal, you the first one to know, that I signed with EMI right now. I just signed off yesterday made everything official so EMI is the home right now. They the ones that’s paying me they gave me a nice piece of what I needed.”

When asked if Ghostface Killah - his longtime partner-in-rhyme and co-star on the original Cuban Linx – will be involved, Rae said he wanted to give others rappers a chance to shine. “Ghost gonna be up but at the end of the day it’s gonna be raw hip-hop, B,” he explained. “When I made this album I made it to be a classic, I didn’t look at it as having Ghost all the way through it like that, because it don’t make it special if I don’t give other brothers a shot.” OB4CL 2 has been in the making for several years now. At one point, Rae was even signed to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records with Busta Rhymes serving as the disc’s executive producer, but that eventually fell through.

Set to feature production by Dre, J Dilla, Pete Rock, Erik Sermon and Wu-Tang mastermind the Rza, the album is reportedly set to drop sometime this summer.

G-side is dirty south with tons of variety, Onra is awesome instrumentals based entirely on old Vietnamese records.

G-Side's pretty good, it's weirdly all over the place but pretty strong throughout the whole thing.

Chinoiseries is sooooooooooo good, his new album sucks ass though.

So! As promised to Daigong, here's a couple of cuts from the cats that will be in studio next week on my show.

Pooh-mic (far left) will be joining me for sure, the other three may also!

Anyway, all of these are from their album, Unorthodox.

http://www.twitter.com/?d=VHISSWI9 - Off in the Carolinas

http://www.twitter.com/?d=KK8HC73Q - Toy Soldiers

http://www.twitter.com/?d=325WA78O - Release Me

Pooh-mic is the first rapper on Carolinas and Release me. I -think- Jervais is the first rapper on Toy Soldiers, but I'll have to double check.

Anyway, if you like them, be sure to check out the Wednesday Wake-up next week, Wednesday at 7 PST!

If you know you're going to buy it shouldn't you be more eager to download it?

EDIT: That made no sense. What I meant was if you know that you're going to buy an album then why does downloading it matter?

When I buy albums, I look forward to hearing the music that I didnt check out before. I've only heard maybe 2 or 3 songs from the album previously and I liked what I heard. If I did download it, it would spoil the experince for me to buy an album, sit down and listen to it. And I really like Asher, so im going to buy his album in support.

Im not hating on anyone who wants to DL it, but if I really dig the music, then im dropping some money for it.

Someone pointed this link out to me and thought it was pretty cool. The BBC has compiled a 534 song, 60 minute megamix covering 30 years of hip hop available to listen online or for download.

Props! By the way, those BBC podcasts are not available outside UK so could you upload that mix? The tracklist looks quite interesting...

^ No problem homie :)

BBC Hip-Hop Megamix

Gotta say I'm not the biggest Hip-Hop fan in the world, but the megamix is very impressive. And it's good to see the tracklist, I know by listening to it that there's a number of tracks I'm gonna chase up and try to get. Some old-school tracks in there that sound pretty funky.
