On the other hand, I'm wondering why she barely appears in any of the shows? I can't re-call seeing her in anything... Like, literally anything. (edit: lol, she's in the latest Shukan)
Maybe her strength lies in performances rather than variety? If so, all the more reason to put her in some of the shows! That's what AKB is all about, isn't it? Watching them grow in various fields?
Hmm.. just realized she's only 14! Her time will come.

Let's join the bandwagon! I'm convinced that Rena Kato is the new Acchan. That being said I'm quite disappointed that she was promoted to Team 4. Don't get me wrong, Rena absolutely deserves to be promoted but Team 4 already has a bunch of popular members. If I were AKI-P I would have saved Rena for Team 8 and made her the front girl right away. I'm sure that Rena will eventually become the ace of Team 4 but she's gonna need a big push to challenge the more established members like Paruru and Ranran. Anyways Rena definitely has a bright future ahead of her :yep:

I'm not so sure anymore. I wonder if she's the type of girl that wants to be at the top. Girls like Mayu and Tomochin have true fighting spirit to be at the top, and also girls like Miichan do whatever it takes to stay in the spotlight. From what I've seen in Kato in variety appearances she doesn't seem like that kind of type. Maybe she's still a bit too young or shy to take on her senpai.
At this point I see her more like Tonooka Erica's character in Idoling; someone who has a lot of skill and is in essence one of the aces of the group, but not necessarily the face. Kato's more like a strong power that runs in the second row, if that makes sense. But that's just the way I see her now, she's still young, she can still open up a bit more and take charge. XD

AKB48's Kato Rena to suspend performances due to sprained knee
January 23, 2014
On January 22, it was revealed that AKB48's Kato Rena (16) would be suspending her performances for a short while due to her sprained right knee.
The group's blog stated, "Regarding Team B's Kato Rena, her right leg was injured during a shoot for a TV program the other day. After getting examined at the hospital, results showed that her right knee was sprained."
"Because it will place an excessive burden on the lower half of her body, the doctor ordered her to rest for about 4 weeks. As such, she will be absent from 'Request Hour Set List Best 200 2014' on January 23, and she will also be suspending her performances at the AKB48 theater for a short while."
Kato commented, "To all fans who were looking forward to the concert and performances, I'm sorry to worry you. It is also my responsibility. I will take a break in order to get better as soon as possible. I'm really sorry to worry you."

Tanaka Natsumi ranks first for 'AKB48 Kato Rena's General Election'
June 17, 2015
AKB48's Kato Rena started a project called "AKB48 Kato Rena's Oshimen General Election" ("Renacchi General Election") on talk app "755". The 16 members chosen by Kato will form a new unit.
Kato started "Renacchi General Election" to respond to fans' requests on "755". A total of 125 members approved and became candidates for this project. On June 15, Kato herself announced her oshimen (favorite member) from counting down from 16 to 1.
The member who came on top was HKT48 Team H's Tanaka Natsumi. On choosing Tanaka, Kato explained, "She is very young, only 14-years-old! Despite her young age, she is a very impressive MC!"
Besides Tanaka, the top 7 members include Tano Yuuka, Oshima Ryoka, Yamamoto Sayaka, Shimazaki Haruna, Kato, and Sato Nanami. On this project, general producer Akimoto Yasushi commented, "Let's create a song and music video," and formally decided the formation of a new unit.
