The graphic cards were from a crashed truck. They sold them as b-ware with only one year guarantee. So I got two for the price of one new :)

The RAM was in january about 120€ per one kit, so 240 for 4Gig is a moderate price for RAM with cooler integrated.

I buy around all 3years a new system, but then one, that is good enough for another 3years :).

Later that year I plan for a big LCD widescreen with HD-in. Comes in the middle between the old 19"-monitors. I can connect now two HD-screens and two vga-screens or four vga-screens with adapter. Plus two tv-out :))

My old pc is a Athlon 1600+(1,43Ghz) @1,7Ghz overclocked with 2Gig RAM and a overclocked GeForce 4Ti. Runs fine in my sisters room now.
This one had a little problem with running NFS Carbon and Oblivion. So I decided to get a new one now.

^ i have the revolution VX mouse. nothing but recommendations. although to be honest, i've gone through at least a dozen other mice before i came to the VX, so there might be something more specific you're looking for that maybe neither the MX or VX have.

^ well I'm pretty much a Logitech fan, and I've been using their mouse for years. Right now I think I'm just a bit confused between buying a Logitech G7, revolution VX, or revolution MX. I will primarily use the mouse for game & video editing + graphic editing too, so I need something comfortable, has good response time, and accurate.

if you're doing a fair amount of precision work, i'd probably recommend the VX over the MX or G7. i tried the G7 before and it simply felt awkward in my hands. the MX has a nice contour, but slightly bigger than what i want. the VX fits me perfectly because, in the same line of doing precision graphic editing, i can place my wrist on the table, and lightly hold the mouse with just the tips of my fingers (ie: my palm doesn't touch the mouse), which lets me make precision movements since i move just my fingers and not my entire hand.

of course depending on your hands maybe the MX is a better choice (it also has more features, as it were). no problems with the RF, quick response even when returning from low-power state, and the dongle can be stored inside the mouse. both VX and MX tend to drain the AA batteries fairly quickly, though, so if you use the mouse an extended period of time every day, you can expect to replace the battery once a month. there is of course a power button, but i never use that XD

just as a side consideration, if you're doing extensive video editing, i'd say you shouldn't choose the MX over the VX simply because of the extra buttons. logitech's software is very bulky, and the button layout on the mouse isn't exactly the most ideal. you're better off with the VX (using a default mouse drivers) and getting a proper jog/shuttle controller.

When my cordless mouse gave up, I bought a Logitech MX300 . I don't like big and heavy mouses for games.

This one is the one, I use the longest time ever.
I removed the weight and its now very lightweight.
Since this one won't go to heaven, I never buy a new one. Precision and handling is just perfect.
Even the paint holds on it for 5years now. When I bought it, this one was brand new and tested as the best gamer mouse.

After comparing the two mouse's specs, I finally decided to get the Revolution VX, mainly because:
1. It's cheaper (duh)
2. The MX has nice features, but I'm not sure I'm gonna use them..
3. The VX is smaller, and when I tried it, it fits nicely in my hand :)

thanks guys! you just saved me 20 bucks ^_^

My friend had the MX Revolution and in my hand it fit like a glove. The design is similar in my MX1000 but the 'thumb rest' is better in the MX Revolution.

lol Your "budget pc for family use" is better than my pc(except for the HDD's). My family pc is my old pc.

900mhz Athlon
512mb ram
radeon 7000 or something
an ugly case and crappy psu that I took from my cousin's old pc
dvd-player
broken cd-r drive

does the job though lol

Had a last minute change of heart in the shop today xD ended up buying the MX today after trying both of them. the point that made me buy the MX instead:
1. The comfort! omg never had a mouse fit my hand like that
2. The wheels! the hyper speed scroll is pretty fun to use, and i find it hard to live without now =p
3. the second wheel on the left!

that said, the software from logitech doesn't really give me freedom to change every button's functionality as I desire. anyone knows how to fix this?

the radeon X1650 performs very very well for a mid-range card. chances are you misread, it should be compared to the geforce 7800 series. if you want top-of-the-line, there's nothing better than the 8800GTX. if you can only afford mid-range, then the radeon X1650 is actually a better choice---except X1650 does not support DX10. keep in mind that there are no DX10 games out yet, so even though it's possible for the radeon X1900 to beat single-card nvidia 8800 in some games, once DX10 comes out the 8800 will perform much better. also, although the X1650 is faster than the 7800, nvidia just came out with the 8600 (mid-range), and preliminary benchmarks are looking good.

not sure what you're asking? budget-wise, you could buy the E4300 and overclock it and get as much performance as the 5000+/E6400. but if you don't want to overclock, you're better off with an AMD64 X2 (anything below the 5000+). once you get up to around the 5000+/E6400 price range, the performance-per-$ is more or less the same, depending on the motherboard and memory you buy (for now, anyway).

its huggum who tell me.. i think that high end nvidia is 7900gs.. sure 8800gtx can pawn high end ati, middle end? haha.. dx10? only crysis for the moment.. is vista stabile ady?

owh.. so if i buy e4300 (512kb x2 cache l2 is it).. so need what brand of ram to oc it.. sure had to spend a lot of money.. haha.. need to wait , work then buy one hell rig one..

if you absolutely love nVidia, or simply want the fastest card that you can buy right now, of course the 8800 is the only choice. if you can't spend as much money, you have to cut corners one way or another, there's no way around it. if you want to see specifics, you can easily google for them--anandtech has plenty of reviews.

ATi just announced preliminary benchmarks for the new radeon 2900XT, and it beats the 8800 by a healthy margin. if you're an nVidia fanboy, there isn't much i can say to change your mind, but you have to keep in mind that this the whole point of competition: one company builds a better product than another, and they leapfrog to keep technology moving forward, and to keep the prices falling. if you only want one company's products, then you cut your options in half--so you just have to recognize that you have fewer options if you have a limited budget.

comparing nVidia and ATi stability in Vista is like comparing grains of sand on a beach. nothing is stable on Vista, at least not anywhere near as compared to XP. if you really want to run Vista (which you don't have to do until you start playing DX10 games), then you'll have to suck it up and deal with buggy drivers for a while.

the best thing you can do is simply to read benchmarks for performance numbers, and search your favorite retailers for the latest prices. anything that offers an opinion as to why ATi or nVidia is no better than stale bread--one week nVidia will be better, the other week ATi.

preliminary 2900XT benchmark:
http://www.dailytech.com/ATI%20Radeon%20HD%202900%20XT%20Performance%20Benchmarks/article7043.htm

for midrange, preliminary 8600 benchmark:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2975

and the anandtech article that overclocked the E4300:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=2903

looking at newegg reveals these prices:
intel E4300: $125
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3: $110
Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 4-4-4-12: 2x1GB for $130, or 2x512MB for $90
