Take part in a challenge to watch 50 movies this year!
The original challenge is for 100 movies, but I think 50 is more doable... However, if you want to go for 100, nobody's stopping ye! :muffin:
I know that Masa at least watches tons of movies! That pimp!
Only one rule: If you watch a movie more than once a year you can list it again if you haven't already listed it in the current month...
(The challenge is from LiveJournal, dunno who came up with it)
How to take part? Well, it would be cool if you posted in this thread and kept a note of every movie you've seen each month. January, February, and so on. It's the cleanest if you make one post and then edit it as you "progress".
But you can post any comments related to the challenge, the movies you've seen etc. in this thread as well, to keep it from falling to page 2. ;)
Me, I don't watch a lot of movies, but I'd like to watch more... So that's why I'll try to succeed in this challenge!

But Jesus H Christ, some of your guys watched a butt load of movies.. No offense, but I truly hope some of you are snowed in, bed ridden, live in a nuclear fallout shelter, something... Because that's an unhealthy amount of time spent watching telly..

The next time I paused it there and let the next person to turn on the tv get shit scared aka mum jumping up in the middle of the day yelling ewwwwwww)

I hated that guy / part!)

69. Johny got his gun (not sure about the title, but this was the best movie I've ever seen! It was also in Metalica's clip "One" and it is sooo awesome! I love it so much! And it has so many great lines too! GAH! IF THIS MOVIE WAS HUMAN I'D MARRY IT!)
70. Blades of Glory... it was funny... aand a bit was just demented as those two are meant to be twins in the movie and are married in real life :O but it was fun.

72. Jumper (It was good but for some weird reason I kept seeing Yosshi as the dude and Miki as the chick.. or Aya as the dude... dunno why but for some weird reason I kept wanting to write a YoMiki fic where Yoshi was a jumper or something and I think I might when I have some free time toO!)

The Messengers ( I totally got it about halfway through.. it was pretty obvious and not really scary but some kudos for the burnt up kid crawling on the walls although it was anything but original it had a nice scary effect and I really feel sorry for the lil kid too because he saw like everything so no wonder he wasn't talking XD)
74. The Chinese Botanists Daughters (sooo sad! Poor Mei Ling! And An too! This is one of the movies that's responsible for turning straight girls gay and gay girls even gayer. Guys stink!)
75. Boys Love (WHY? WHY DID YOU DO IT? OH WHY? Poor Noeru! it's like the male version of above movie set in a modern time with hoter people yet the outcome is equally sad :'( But the ending was beautiful, romantic and poetic.... hey it is just like the above movie after all!><)
76. Whispering corridors II, Memento Mori -which really means "Remember you will die" not "Remember the dead"... anyway this is another one of those scary movies that has you feeling more sorry for the ghost than the haunted.. except for one of the haunted whose biggest fault was in finding the diary :'( I cried for the girl in the end.... and it was a hard feat too since my eyes were dry from crying at the previews two films.
77. Wrong turn 2, Dead end (soooo disgusting.... I'm never writing perv again... seriously going to die alone and never ever have sex! I am never ever ever going to date anyone ... ever! It is sooo disgusting.)
78. Love my life (sweet movie, happy ending, but Ichiko was a bit of an idiot... and poor Eri was so tortured but had the balls to do the right thing... if it was more from Eri's POV we would have seen how she really felt and that she was really hurt with all the things that happened but we just saw her strong side, so it kinda seems like she didn't love her that much but it's pretty obvious that she did... like when she was waiting for her with the book in the end..... and she looked so depressed but when she saw her, she lit up :3)

From the last few movies I've watched I've deduced a few things...
gay sex: gross and painfull and never want to watch again and guys rape eachother
lesbian sex: bittersweet as you are getting married the next day and your future husband will torture you because of that one night of bliss :'( and although its hot and sweet and shmexy it could kill (your father in law-quite literally)
straight sex: Is by far the most disgusting of all sex as wrong turn shows us.
Lesson learned, I am never going to have sex.
also, still watching Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince but I don't know if I can count it as it is a movie made with sims... and it is German.. :3 but Eng subs :)

19 movies in January, which I think is about average. I might have watched more but the last week was spent watching the fourth season of The Wire (yeeeessssssssss) instead of movies. The ratio of great movies to bad movies was pretty high; with at least 8-9 movies being really good and only 2-3 being at all bad.

I just noticed this thread. Not much of a movie watcher, besides the local cinema is way behind "schedule". Barely half of the movies shown in most parts of the world make it to the roster. But then, I rarely go to the cinema anyway. :lol:

February was surprisingly weak especially considering that I watched tons of critically acclaimed movies. I doubt I will ever re-watch any movie outside the top10 and the only movies I'm planning to buy in the future are Rambo IV and There Will Be Blood.
Choosing the worst movie of the month was quite easy. I hate musicals with passion and Sweeney Todd is the worst musical I have ever seen because like 95% of the dialogue was sung (I hated Moulin Rouge and Chicago too but they didn't contain as much singing as Sweeney Todd).

18 movies in February. I think that's kinda lot for me, but we'll see.
Eventhough I watched all the Academy award nominees despite Michael Clayton, the best feeling was left by the four first Harry Potter movies. I hadn't watched them before, nor read the books. I was positively surprised and I think I have to read the books now as well.

Even though I'm two months behind, I think that I will be able to remember enough movies that I've seen so far this year to know what's up and maybe catch up to more than 50! I feel like I don't watch enough movies so I know I won't have a problem with upping my dosage! :ding:

I also hit a bad stretch in the middle of the month where I saw about 5 bad movies in a row. To make up for all that March has been great.

Can anyone recommend me a Chinese (can be from the continent, HK, Taiwan..) movie for analysis??
I'm taking a Chinese movie course and we have to write a 10-page analysis of a movie (or comparing two movies... The topic is pretty free, as long as it's related to Chinese movies). So I'd need a movie that a.) I could watch more than once without dying of boredom (so no Wong Kar Wai or other artsy movies.. XD) and b.) doesn't have Tony Leung, or I'll just end up drooling after him instead of concentrating on the movie.
So yeah. Ideas? :D

I think "A tale of two sisters" (janghwa Hongreyon (?) ) is Chinese..... Im not too sure though..... It's really interesting and most people have to watch it more than once to get it. Lol, Im doing almost the same thing. 10 different at least one page analysis for HW. But they can't all be the same media, and I don't wanna do any movies cause I can't be bothered writing that much. So far I've done 0 and it's due last friday! Yey me! Also the bio exam the say after tomorow is making my life just that much more exciting! YEY! (Not)
If not, try the World movies channel! :) But I really like this movie, and if you want extra info about it, the Americans are remaking it! Lol, notice how much Su Mi is the spitting image of Emily Browning, and then be amazed at how her English counterpart is scheduled to be played by Emily Browning. I still tell the story of how I thought she looked just like her and then found out she will be played by her in the English version. crunchyroll should most definitelly still have it, thats where I watched it. Also watch kuchisake onna (but I am more than 90% sure that this movie is Japanesse not Chinese, but its still interesting and fun to watch).

i thought city of violence's only redeemable quality was its fight scenes, which i admit were pretty awesome, esp the last sequence (like the last 20 minutes of the movie), otherwise i found it pretty run-of-the-mill

Putting movies of May in order is gonna be difficult, since I watched many classics that I haven't seen before, such as Reservoir Dogs, The Last Emperor, Deer Hunter and The Shawshank Redemption. Eventhough some new films I went watching at the theatre were good in their own way, they can't compete with the classics.
Anyway, The Shawshank Redemption, is my best of May. Eventhough the Finnish title kinda spoils the whole movie.

ooooho I love Zooey Deschanel! She was great in almost famous but my fave of her movies is a tie between Eulogy and Hitchikers guide to the galaxy. I didn't like this one movie she was in but she's just so cool and has this average person but also rocker air about her y'know? Plus I love her eyes!

You should watch All the Real Girls. Her best role imo. And a good movie.

Anyways I watched All the Real Girls today and it was alright. Zooey was lovely like usually and her performance was pretty impressive as well. ATRL is worth checking out if you like Zooey :yep:

Thanks to the challenge I've watched much more movies this year than I usually would.. And I'm now at 78 :D
I also love that there's actually a list of all the movies now... So that at the end of the year I can make some kind of sum up of the movies I've seen, wohooo

I've watched way more movies this year than I have ever before, and it's solely because of this thread..
Haven't added my November movies yet (been lazy, and I'm far too pissed to do it right now), but I only watched a handful, so my total for the year so far would be in the low 90's..
Have the last 6days of the year off, so should be able to tally a 100 by New Years..

Thank god netflix keeps a list of all the movies you rent from them. Otherwise I never would have been able to remember all those movies.
I had a big drop in movie watching over the past couple of months. So instead of last years 230 something movies I have a far more modest 157 this year. I have another 4 movies sitting around that I'll probably watch before the year is up too.

I managed to watch a few more, but I forgot I watched two movies twice and counted them. So that brings the total to 105, lol.
I actually have Tokyo Gore Police waiting to be watched. One more day in the year, maybe I'll just save it for the first movie of next year.

sadly i didnt keep track after june something or other... but i had already hit 200 by then lol. in the last half of the year i didnt watch NEARLY as much as the first half, maybe only 50 in the last 6 months... anyway, hopefully i can keep track for 09, it was fun while i was doing it
