I'll think about going. Haha

This year the festival is moving to Randall's Island Park with the concert at 7pm-10pm (I'm guessing on Oct 10).

Mugen: You need to get out of Vancouver for one of these.
CKD: Don't expect any souvenirs. Unless things change from last year the Chuseok festival is a free festival on a much smaller scale than KMF and SMTown.

And speaking of the NYAF I think the concert will be the same night as the Puffy/Boom Boom Satellites concert. Luckily I've seen Puffy once before but would love to see BBS.

Arrrgh, concert on a Sunday night? FFFFFUUUUU

Well.  I dunno what my situation will be by that time... would I even have a job to worry about? XD  Maybe not.

Yep.

And I've never seen Puffy, I wanted to see BBS and Zazen Boys too... I'm still unsure of this.

The man Kim Jong Kook?

The kpop queen Hyori?

My favorite angels KARA?

MUGEN?

Maybe. Leaning towards a yes though thanks to KARA ( I love you girls but STOP MAKING ME SPEND ALL THIS MONEY  XD ). It's just right after SM Town and all the money I spent/will spend on it, who knows where I am money wise. Unlike most of you, it's over 3000mi from where I live and NYC isn't the cheapest place in the US either.

DAMN IT!!! Why did it have to be on the same weekend of NYAF/NYCC?

Although, I guess I could go to the concert on Sunday evening. There's pretty much nothing to do on Sundays at conventions anyways except for some last minute buying.

I really don't wanna miss up Hyori and KJK again, but I'm a maybe. They've been smart to put it at that weekend since Oct 11 (columbus day) is a national holiday everywhere EXCEPT California (HI, NV too), so I might be fucked.

And then in late October it's the Kim Yu-Na event thing I'm going to as well. HOWEVER, if I can get a cheap plane ticket, if I can get the schedule to work out, and if my budget allows me, then I will fuggn be in NYC for Hyori and KJK and Nicole in pjs in an elevator (again).

Never count me out. I'm as persistent as that mosquito bite you have under your foot.

WHOA FREE. Even better. The one where Jay saw BEG! fucking awesome

I was googling and found: http://www.maangchi.com/talk/topic/new-york-chuseok-festival-sept-26-27 (http://www.maangchi.com/talk/topic/new-york-chuseok-festival-sept-26-27)

Quote
Yes, it's gonna take place for two days(Sep 26~Sep 27) at Citi Field Parking Area and will start at noon on both of the days.

There will be a bunch of Korean Food booths which provide Korean traditional food, snacks and more.

And the good thing is there is no entrance fee. Yeah~

Pretty fucking awesome! Gotta figure out what days to spend cuz hotels are INSANE. There's gonna be an X Japan concert too on the 10th. (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=6.msg773516#msg773516) CRAZY weekend!

Unless our NYC Hipstaz know some in the city, I would normally just get a good, cheap hotel in Jersey and take the ferry over to Manhattan.  But I'm just a tourist. XD  Plz post tips!

Yup same festival where BEG as well as Leesang and Wax performed last year. It seems like its going to be a little bit bigger this year, at least concert wise.

This is what it looked like last year
Brown Eyed Girls - Abracadabra - (2009.09.27) New York Chuseok Festival (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfLH68eKqYs#)

Jersey City hotels (across the Hudson river from NYC) are slightly cheaper but still pretty expensive. There are a couple of hotels in my town which are next to buses that'll take you into the city in 15 minutes. Don't know how expensive those hotels are though. I'll check if you guys are interested.

With Sungyeon's situation, I hope KARA is still able to go to NYC one way or another. If not, my interest in flying down will drop considerably...despite Hyori and KJK being there.

Could you please let us know which hotels these are and where these buses drop you off?  I'm planning on checking out the NYAF on Saturday for Rika, too.  There's quite a distance between the convention center and Randalls Island Park.  :\ Recommendations?  Pick a hotel somewhere in between those places? Somewhere on Manhattan Island?  Somewhere in Queens?  Jersey?

Edit:
Saw limit's post. Ah, right I remember reading something about Sungyeon's back? Ack, KARA's the main reason for me wanting to go to the Chuseok Festival! Well, I hope the KARA camp keeps us informed on her progress.

These are the hotels in my town. I recommend the Courtyard at $99 a night. The bus stop is right outside the hotels and drops you off at the Port Authority Bus Terminal which is within walking distance of the Convention Center where the Anime Festival is being held. To get to Randall's Island you would take the subway then a shuttle bus to the festival.

Lol "walking distance" he means a 15-20 min walk, which is actually pretty normal in NYC.

Post by: Kimuuu on September 08, 2010, 10:01:16 PM
^ That's fine. I walked all over the place last time I was there in the 100+ degree weather and in the rain. >__<  I'm hoping the weather that weekend will be kind to us.

OK, so I checked out the courtyard and noticed that it is further away from the city.  About how long would it take to get to the convention center/Randalls Island Park?
Title: Re: NYC Chuseok Festival 2010 Oct. 9-10
Post by: jaysonnj on September 09, 2010, 12:21:30 AM
^ Depending on traffic its a 15-30 minute bus ride into the city and then the walk to the convention center. Getting to Randall's Island from Midtown by subway might take around 45 minutes.

So I was checking out more hotels closer to the city. If you could spend a bit more there are a couple of hotels just across the river in Jersey City. Its a much easier and shorter commute from my town. They're around the $200 a night range.

Moog I better see next month!

Marriott Residence Inn East Rutherford Meadowlands - East Rutherford, NJ http://bit.ly/9qwcDh (http://bit.ly/9qwcDh)
Marriott Courtyard Lyndhurst Meadowlands - Lyndhurst, NJ http://bit.ly/cTcH17 (http://bit.ly/cTcH17)
Quality Inn Meadowlands - Lyndhurst, NJ http://bit.ly/9Wqvv5 (http://bit.ly/9Wqvv5)

Edited your post a bit Jay :)

So I went and looked at these 3 hotels that Jay was kind enough to post and right now the last 2 in Lyndhurst are significantly cheaper (99/night) than the first hotel in East Rutherford which is at 169/night. It does include free internet and a free buffet breakfast which is pretty convenient and is good for up to "four" people BUT at "five" or more people it gives a choice of a 2 bedroom SUITE that is fully loaded at 239/night.

- 2 bedrooms (like I said earlier)
- 2 bathrooms
- Fully equipped kitchen
- Refrigerator
- Stovetop
- Oven
- Microwave
- Silverware
- Pots, pans, and serving dishes
- Dishes and glasses

Didn't someone mention during the SM Town meetup that we need to have a suite so we all can stay in it? Here's our chance. Ladies in one room, guys in another. Same with the bathrooms. And for those who are culinary inclined, maybe we can cook up something from scratch JPHiP style. I dunno about you guys but I always wanted to stay in a suite :)

Its location isn't that bad either. About a half hour to get to the NYAF and 1.5 hrs to the Chuseok Festival using public transportation (according to google maps).

If we have enough interested in this, I'm more than willing to book it.

Oh, for those going, we have less than 13 hours left till the ticket mailing deadline for NYAF. We doing all three days? Online ticket prices are:

Weekend Pass - $50

Friday Pass - $30
Saturday Pass - $40
Sunday Pass - $30

Hey guise Snow and I work for a hotel chain and we can get rooms for $40/night, granted they're not  5 or even 4 star rooms...they're pretty basic in terms of size and amenities (free breakfast and wifi though) and it's only $40/night w/ employee discount. So....if we dont have enough ppl for a 2 bedroom suite we can always do that adn have a rollaway bed, right? That would make the trip really cheap. We could also get 2 rooms :P :cow: :tama-mad: :shakeit:

shit I'm totally down for 40. I'd sleep in shit, as long as I have place to crash. save money for clubbing.

The suite sounds dope, we save money on food instead of eating out all the time....but shit, we can just book our fucking plane tickets now with dem cheap rates. Thanks Em + Nat!! :shakeit:

Got me a weekend pass already for NYAF :jphip:

shit I'm totally down for 40.

How long y'all staying? I'm thinking a week 7-14 catch a football/basketball game or two.

Nat & I can't stay long, just the weekend cause we have school. We'll probably fly up Friday night after school and have to catch a red-eye Sunday night after the concert. T_T

The event is actually free, so if you live in the area you're just really lucky and you can go to a free kpop concert. What's costing money is plane tickets and hotel costs. :P

I hope it's not true

Son Dam Bi and Secret still could be awesome. Hyosung <3 Zinger <3

But there is a Wonder Girl's show in LA, if anybody in the area wants to go to that.

I'm hearing the same thing right now. No official word yet, so still a rumor.
Sucks we not might get Hyori but luckily I've seen Kara and still having Dambi is still pretty awesome and I enjoy Secret's music.
But if they're bringing in Dambi they should've gotten After School as well, that would've been epic!

And the Wonder Girls need to stop performing so they could finish up that album.

If we go I'll be booking $40 rooms probably at a comfort inn, comfort suites, quality inn, or something along those lines since we have employee discount.

But....if Hyori & KARA aren't going.....then it's just BEAST for me and thats enough for me but maybe not for Snow. Not sure if it's worth the plane ticket and hotel prices to just see BEAST perform one or two songs. Both of us don't follow Secret or Dambi.

@SNSDave if this NYC Chuseok thing doesn't end up working out, I'd so be down to see WG in LA :DDD give me details!

In comparison to last year's Chuseok Festival, it was announced 3 weeks before the actual event. With this year's Festival occurring on Oct 9-10, 3 weeks before would be this coming Saturday. Lets hope they stay consistent in announcing the lineup.

If daigong is down with the $40 rooms, then I guess thats what we'll go with. Saves everyone money.

Oh, I already got those respective days off so I'm pretty much guaranteed to go no matter who performs at the festival...as long as we get the $40 rooms. I'm down to experience Korean culture all the way in the New York area.

dewgong/Snow : how long can u get the 40 rates for us? cuz some of us might stay longer :/

If so, shall we move ahead with the suite?  Again, my g/f, almond and I are going together, so we'd be all in for that.  Who else is down for the suite at this point?

Booked a hotel room here: Marriott Courtyard Lyndhurst Meadowlands - Lyndhurst, NJ http://bit.ly/cTcH17 (http://bit.ly/cTcH17)

No suites available... :\ Probably already sold out.  Me, my g/f, almond and Kristen are staying there, but if anyone needs a place to stay, let me know. There are two double beds and I put in a request for a rollaway bed.  The rate is $169/night plus taxes and shit.  We're checking in Friday afternoon and checking out Monday morning.

What, are you planning to sleep as if you're taking a bath?!

If that means you're blocking bathroom access in both nights, then I might just extend my stay at the hostel.  A shared bathroom is better than no bathroom.   ;)

That's what the lineup seems to be right now. Son Dambi, Brian Joo, and Norazo. Secret is up in the air right now.

The original official announcement (the one saying Hyori, Kara, Beast, and KJK) said that the concert would be on both days but Brian stated that he'll be performing on the 10th. http://twitter.com/Brianjoomuzik/status/25027443725 (http://twitter.com/Brianjoomuzik/status/25027443725)
Also the pop singers performed on the second day last year.

So I guess KARA is not coming then  :gyaaah:

I like Son Dambi a lot, but there would have to be another artist/group going for me to pull the trigger on flying down...and unfortunately Rika and the NYAF isn't enough either. Also with the loss of the $40 rooms from Snow/dewgong, yea. If Secret would've or is going then I'll have to think about it then but for now, with the prices of hotels sky rocketing, availability dwindling and weather affecting fliers going to the East coast, I'm gonna say no for now.

There's still a week left though, a lot could happen then. We'll see.

Awesome drummer girl! Just disappointed I didn't get to see the cuteness that Kimmeh tweeted about. Water is hot hot

^ YEAH! YEAH! HOT PIX KIMMY

oh man, GJ Matt! way to just capture the cupcake skirt Dambi had on and mmmmmmmmmmmmmdelish black panties. I was surprised too how short her set was but ah well, everyone was there for her. We got to Randall's Island just in time, traveling on the Yankees subway WOO HOO.

More videos of Hot Drummer Girl I found from the hour long extravaganza:

Then she set the place on FIRE!!

Since we had to sit on the side of the stage - there was a middle part for MVPs or people who went there early? I dunno it was fenced off so obviously there was another Drummer Girl in red, was she as hot? Lord knows. There was also topless dudes, they were fucking hardcore. I love drumming  Blue Hot Drummer Girl was just mad cute, esp. when she was screaming.

Jung In was real cute too, and the 60s guy...lol and I had a fancam of Brian Joo's backup dancers only XD
