I have word 2002, but the only documents I ever open with it are ones I create, so I'm not too worried.

Just one vulnerability? :D :D :D

Isn't it strange that M$ only discovers vulnerabilities in their software right before launching new versions? I mean, this vulnerability has been in there since 2001 (it says it affects Word 2002), and they discover it right before launching Office 2007? What are the "security patches" for then?

Every day I thank God I have GNU/Linux

Wow what a shocker yet another "accidental" security flaw in a Micro$uck programme.

You could try Open Office at http://www.openoffice.org/ for a free, open source alternative to Microsoft Office.  I use this at home, and I haven't noticed any real problems with it for my purposes at home.  At work, it's a little different, and I do have Microsoft Office there.  But work also decided to block incoming Word attachments temporarily until some workaround to this hole can be put in place.  Interestingly enough, I've heard that there is no exploit for the hole, either in the wild or proof of concept, so currently, no damage can be done.  *shrug*  I don't know if that's true though, I only heard about the existence of the hole.

Somebody has been copying to much: OpenOffice 2.1 seems to crash on it also :)

Perhaps that is true, but the difference here is that bug fixes for OO will likely come quickly and be easy to get.

That gave me a good laugh

Also, I don't use Word. I don't like it.
Having a hard day? Send me a PM and I'll create a parody of something! It's my policy to make you laugh. If you don't, I will do it again. Until you crack a smile :)
