CHAPTER 4

‘Stop it brain…. It hurts…. Stop thinking about her… Give up on her…. Just give up….’
Risa winced silently as she glanced at the white and clean ceiling above her.
‘I told myself to hate her… But I can’t bring myself to do it… What should I do? I have lost my ability to do everything…..’
Closing her eyes, Risa drifted off into an uneasy sleep.

“Miss Niigaki is in room 324,”
The nurse’s words echoed in her head. When she finally reached the room however, Ai found herself unable to go in.
‘What should I say…? What if she doesn’t want to see me?’
Releasing her hold on the door handle, Ai peeped through the window. She sighed in relief when she realized that Risa was fast asleep.
Entering the room quietly, Ai soon made her way to the sleeping maiden. Bringing her hand to touch Risa’s face, Ai felt tears welling in her eyes as she
remembered the how Risa broke up with her…

FLASHBACK
“A.. Ai…”
Risa stuttered.
“Hmmm?”
Ai hummed softly in reply.
“Let’s break up…”
Risa mumbled inaudibly. However, the sentence did not remain unheard to Ai.
“Huh? What? Why?”
Ai asked in confusion.
“Because I no longer feel the same way about you anymore…. I…”
“You like someone else, don’t you?”
Ai cut Risa off.
“I…. No…”
Risa stuttered.
“Stop lying, Niigaki Risa! I’ve had enough of you! You suddenly became really close with Sayu, you think I didn’t notice that?!”
Ai screamed.
Ignoring Risa’s consistent pleas, she walked away without battling an eyelash.
“TAKAHASHI AI!”
Risa shouted, successfully getting Ai’s attention.
“I’m sorry…. I….”

Opening her eyes immediately, Ai found herself asleep next to Risa.
‘I wanted to hate you… Yet I can’t find the courage to do so…’
“I’m so stupid, aren’t I?”
Ai laughed dryly as she whispered. With that, she left room 324 and made her way home, before Risa woke up.

“A penny for your thoughts?”
A voice jolted Risa from her daydream.
“Ahh… Riho…”
Risa smiled gently.
“I’m fine…”
“Don’t lie… The three words: ‘I AM THINKING’ is written all over your face,”
Riho joked. Risa chuckled, before her face turned serious as she whispered,
“I think… Ai came…. I heard her, Riho… I swear I did…”

“WAIT!”
Ai felt herself being pulled by the collar roughly.
“What the-!”
When she realized the person pulling her was Riho, she spoke calmly.
“Ah.. Riho… Is there anything I can help you with?”
“Yes…. I want you, to tell Niigaki-san you hate her, and never see her again. I don’t ever want to see her cry anymore, otherwise, you shall pay for it!”
Riho snarled menacingly before she turned and walked away from where she came from.
‘What was that? That scary glare that Riho gave me…. What was wrong? Unless…’
Ai thought silently.

FLASHBACK
“I’m sorry…”
Without giving in to her consistent pleas, Ai walked across the road to get home. However, what she did not expect was Risa to follow right after her.
“Ai! Ai wait! Let me expla-,”
Risa got no further as the world around her seemed to spin, and she felt herself looking around just one last time for the familiar face before she blacked out completely. Who could have thought, the next thing that happened to Risa would always haunt Ai?
As Ai turned back, her eyes grew twice their original size as she let out a loud gasp. Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw a speeding car racing straight toward Risa!
“Ri...”
Was all that could come out of her mouth at that moment, as she saw Risa mouthed the words ‘I love you’ right before she was thrown high above the ground by the impact of the hit.
When Risa landed hard on the ground with a ‘thud!’, Ai ran as fast as she could beside the now lying in a pool of blood Risa.
“Rii… I’m sorry…”
Ai murmured as tears made its way to her face, dripping down on Risa herself.
“Silly girl I should be the one saying sorry… I still love you but... but I.... I... ”
Risa muttered softly. Bringing her hand up weakly, Risa managed to touch Ai’s face with her bloody hands.
“I don't want to be a burden to you... Please forgive me…”
She whispered weakly before she fell into her unconscious state.
“Risa…. RISA!!!”
END OF FLASHBACK
“Risa!”
Ai called out in her dreams, waking her up instantly. Heaving a sigh of relief, she placed her hand gently over her heart, hoping it could ease its fast beating rate.
‘She’ll never forgive me, ever. I’ve let her down too much… Perhaps, the best way to end her sorrow is to end mine? … … ’

I declare myself officially stuck~! Too many ideas incoming! Now school's reopen, work and writing has to be juggled.... So.... I'll try my best to write~ Ja ne~!
