Chapter 3 [Part 2 (last)]
It was a cloudy day. Everything was dark and scary. No single light of the Sun could pass through the thick black blanket made of water vapor. It was going to be stormy, just like what the weather broadcast channel had said. Definitely, this time wasn’t ideal for anything good happening.
No exception, a certain girl laying on her bed struggled from the sudden coldness of the environment. She opened her heavy eyes, taking a look at her surrounding. Weakly, she raised an arm up to her forehead and touched it. Her eyes furrowed by the result she just got; her fever was gone but her temperature was still quite high. She pushed herself up and sat on the bed. She had been sleeping for quite a long time so her head received much pain, enough to make her feel dizzy.
“Uh...” She moaned painfully while holding her head, trying to gain back her consciousness. She felt thirsty; her throat was dried like desert.
She looked around to find something to drink and noticed a bottle of water and a glass full of the fresh liquid she was finding on her desk. The girl slowly reached out for the glass and grabbed it, bring in it closer to her mouth before drinking the liquid inside hastily like it was the tastiest drink in the world.
When she finally finished refreshing herself, she put the glass back on her desk and let out a satisfying sigh. Then she allowed herself to investigate her surroundings again. Looking out of the window, she found out the dark sky and sometimes there were some angry sounds of thunder.
“It’s going to rain soon. Or maybe there will be a storm coming up. By the way... what date is today?”
She said to herself then looked for the calendar in her room. She couldn’t find it in this dark room so she decided to look at her watch, as known as her cell phone. The girl got her answer, which shocked her in place.
“What? I’ve been sleeping for 3 days already? No wonder why my head hurts like hell.” She talked to herself again and facepalmed herself mentally.
Suddenly, a feeling of missing someone hit her nerve. She remembered that, in her dream, she was finding someone in the darkness. So now, she wanted to see that person so much since she had recovered a lot. Without hesitation, she moved out of her warm blanket and placed both of her feet on the ground. But before she could even make a small step on her feet, dizziness took over her nerve again and almost knocked her down if she didn’t grab on her desk to support herself.
And because of that, a small piece of paper, laying on the desk motionless got her attention. She would ignore the paper if it wasn’t the name on it that actually caught her eyes.
“Ma... yuyu?” She mumbled the name quietly.
She slowly took the paper in her hand ans raised it up to the level that she could read the words written on it.
Suddenly, an angry groan of the sky occurred, followed by rapid raging lightning tearing the dark cloud. Each time the room was lightened by the punishment of the sky, a shocked, lonely and breaking down shadow of a certain girl appeared on the wall. The silence was left alone to covered the room. The only thing that could be heard was the thud sound of rain drops hitting the glass of window and the furious thunder.
All of sudden, breaking the silence was an opening door. A tall, pale-skin girl with long hair stepped inside the room. She was planning to check on a person but then she was startled by the figure of that person standing next to the window.
“Yuki-sama.” The newcoming person exclaimed happily. But then answering her call was just another scream of thunder and an angry flash of lightning outside the window. Thanks to the lightning, the figure of her master was lightened, which startled the girl when she noticed the piece of paper in the pair of shaking hands.
Dear Yukirin,
By the time you found this paper, I would have gone to somewhere far away. Rena must have given you this for me right? I’m very thankful that she kept my promise with her.
“Y-Yuki-sama...” The girl called again, more carefully.
“Rena...” A low and scary voice called out her name, which only frightened her more. She was frozen at her stance when she heard a crumbling sound of paper.
Yukirin, I have noticed how you tried to be strong for me and get yourself into troubles because of me. I’m very happy that you went through everything just for me. But even though I’m not a human, I still can’t stand watching you suffer like that, especially because of me. As your best friend for 10 years, I can’t allow myself to let you get hurt like that anymore...
“Rena...” Once again, the scary voice called for her. This time, her master turned around to face her. She couldn’t see her master’s face when the black long hair had covered most of the face but she didn’t want to see it right now.
It was the first time she was scared of her lovely master. She wanted to run away from the person that was walking slowly toward her but her legs would never move from their places.
I’m so sorry for leaving you without saying goodbye. I’m so sorry that I broke our promise but I have no other choices. As long as I’m with you, you’ll keep getting hurt until you break down one day. I can’t let that happen. Never. So if you hate me for breaking our promise then just do it. I would rather be hated by you than watch you suffering.
A strong grip appeared on her collar, dragging her toward to the person in front of her with a powerful force. She didn’t know her master. She didn’t know anymore. The person in front of her right now, was like a monster.
“Y-Yuki-sama...” She mumbled.
Right after her voice escaped her throat, a strong and powerful punch landed on her left cheek, sending her fall down on the floor with a loud thud.
I have gone to somewhere far away from you so please, if you still see me as your best friend, if you still treasure our friendship, then don’t find me. Please, forget about me. Forget about everything we have been through together. Please, forget every memory about me.
“Why...” A quiet, shaky but scary voice echoed in her ear again. Holding her swollen cheek, she looked and met a pair of desperate dark eyes.
“Y-Yuki-“ Not even get to finish her sentence, another punch landed on her other cheek.
“Why... Rena... Why...” For each word was spoken, she received a powerful and painful punch on her pale face, causing her to lay completely on the floor.
From now on, please let Rena replace me and take care of you when I’m no longer be with you. She is not me, but I believe that she can keep promises better than I do.
“Why didn’t you stop her? Why did you let her go? WHY?” The voice was shaking but the anger still could be found in it. The raging girl jumped onto the girl on the floor and throwing punches in a merciless way.
Rena couldn’t do anything except for lying there and allowing her master to release all the anger on herself.
Painful cry mixed together with the angry sounds of thunder perform a tragedy symphony.
Yukirin... Please never cry for me again. I don’t deserve your tears. Don’t smile for me because I don’t deserve them anymore. Find someone else that can make you smile better than I did and never let you get hurt like I did.
“Why did she break our promise? Why did she have to leave me behind? Why?...” The voice trailed off. The speed of each punch was reduced by time.
Instead of painful sensation, Rena felt cold drops of water falling onto her swollen skin. She looked up. Not angry eyes, not scary eyes but depressed and lonely eyes met her own.
I know a strong girl like you will live well without a useless cyborg like me. You have your friends, family with you so you’ll be just fine, Yukirin.
Maybe this is the end of our journey together, but I don’t dare say goodbye.
It’s just too painful to say it.
Whatever happens, I’ll always care about you and watch over you.
Your beloved friend and cyborg,
Mayuyu.
She saw her master raise her right fist again. Immediately, she closed her eyes, ready for receiving another punch.
“WHY!?!?”
A loud scream occurred and nothing else came. She just heard a thud from her left side and then sniffing sounds covered the dark room.
Rena slowly opened her eyes, looking at the girl sitting on her belly with a soaked face. The final punch never touched her skin. Instead, the girl had released all of her anger to the cold floor.
“Rena... Why did she do this to me?” This time, her master’s hurtful voice reached her ear drum. More tears rolled on the white face and fell down on her own.
She watched her master’s face coming closer to hers. Then, a sudden warmth and wetness was felt on her skin on the crook of her neck. More sobs were heard from her right side, mixing with the lonely and breaking sound of rain.
The cyborg said nothing. She let her master crying on her shoulder when she was stroking the girl’s hair gently and hugging her tight, hoping her little effort would soothe the girl’s pain in some ways.
######################################
A month had passed after the sad incident; something had changed in a certain family. And that certain family was no one else but the Miyazawa - Kashiwagi household. The adults in the house were completely fine. The change only happened on the children.
The boyish trouble maker was now like a good-manner sheep that always take care of her step-sister. The usual quiet and calm cyborg was in a high alert towards the only man in the house and followed her young master every time and everywhere she went like a puppy.
And for the aforementioned girl, the cheerful, strong and sensitive princess was no different from a broken doll. She locked herself in her dark room, completely isolated from the world. She didn’t talk to anyone beside her step-sister and her loyal cyborg friend. She didn’t want to meet anyone else or eat anything else from the food that was forced into her mouth by those mentioned people.
Day by day, her condition didn’t get any better. When her friend in school came to visit her, nothing changed in the girl’s attitude. The dark period kept happening until one day, the girl’s life changed forever.
It was 2 months after the day Mayu left. Around 5 pm, the mother was at work while the father was having his day-off in front of the TV. The oldest daughter was left for school while the cyborg was busy in the kitchen. It would have been just another normal day if the youngest daughter didn’t decided to leave her world.
Slowly walking down ont he stairs, the soulless girl took her heavy steps and led herself to the kitchen, passing through the living room where her step-father was watching a movie. Didn’t say a single word, she walked behind the cyborg busy with chopping the vegetables and suddenly called out her name, startling the cyborg which almost caused her to cut her hand.
“Rena...”
The cyborg left the knife falling on the cutting tray and quickly turned around. Then she was welcomed by a messy-hair girl in a long and baggy white shirt.
“Y-Yuki-sama?” Rena stuttered.
“I’m thirsty...” A small whisper escaped from the pale lips.
“E-eh... H-hai... I’ll get you some water...”
Rena went away to get a glass of water while the girl was standing like a statue. Hearing the cyborg’s voice, the man turned around to see what was happening. His face changed from blank into amused and evil face after he saw his “lovely” daughter. He showed no concern about the girl’s state of emotion nor her health condition. He just found it amusing that the rebellious girl was now like a zombie. He let out a small despising chuckle but loud enough for the girl to hear it.
The girl didn’t move an inch. She only raised her hand when her friend gave her the glass of water that she was waiting for. She took it and lifted the cold glass up to touch her dry lips. She enjoyed the cool liquid running down through her deserted throat. But the devil would never leave her alone.
“Let’s see what do we have here? The coward dog has finally came out of its cage?” The girl heard her father say but she ignored it.
The cyborg knew the man was taking the advantage to insult her master since the girl didn’t care about anything now. She wanted to hit the man so badly but for her master’s sake, she swallowed her anger.
“Cat got your tongue huh? Say something. Or... Are you muted?” The man continued. The mentioned girl didn’t react and only focused on her drinking task. On the other hand, the cyborg was watching the girl’s emotion but what she got was just a blank face.
“So I understand now. You just have a big mouth. You’re nothing when you don’t have that cyborg.” And then, the man dragged the girl into the topic that everyone wanted to avoid it so much.
The man smirked when he saw the girl flinch at his last word. Watching her back, he couldn’t see the girl’s face but he kept entertaining himself anyway.
“I wonder why that ‘thing’ left you when ‘it’ said ‘it’ wanted to to protect you huh? What an epic sacrifice." He said sarcastically. He would never notice the cracks started forming on the glass the girl was holding.
The cyborg noticed that and tried to soothe her master by patting her shoulders firmly. But it seemed to not work.
“That “thing” is no more than just a tool. No wait, it has a heart. But what for? To use your stupidity of course. How can you ever believe a cyborg would do something for you huh? They don’t have a heart. Everything is already programmed. This must be only a play of its maker.”
He would never know he was digging his own grave.
“But to think about it again, that cyborg was quite good with me.” The man turned his gaze back to the TV while he continues his insult with a satisfied smile on his face. “At least her moan and “inside” was quite realistic. It was so hilarious when she was calling for help hopelessly. I guess she was just good at being a se-...”
Not even get to finish his words, he already felt his head slam hard onto the cold white floor. Blood was flowing out from his lips and his bleeding forehead. At the same time, he heard a breaking sound of the glass falling down. To his horror, standing in front of him was a girl surrounded my dark aura with hated and killing eyes.
“What the heck? How did you...” He was surprised and scared by the girl. In just a flash moment, the girl teleported from the kitchen to the living room and knock him down.
“Don’t you dare...” A frightening whisper echoed in his ear. “... talk about her like that... You know... NOTHING ABOUT HER, B*STARD!!!”
The last thing that the poor man knew about this world was himself being beaten by light-speed punches until he completely lost conscious.
“YUKI-SAMA!!!” The cyborg shouted to stop the raging girl but her voice was too small to soothe the pain and anger burning inside the injured heart.
The girl, on top of the motionless body, kept throwing punches until her hands were all covered in nasty blood, ignoring the shout echoing the empty room.
“Yuki-sama!! STOP!” Using all of her power in “kind mode”, Rena wrapped her arms around Yuki, locked her arms inside hers and pulled the girl away from the beaten man.
The girl struggled, trying to escape from the embrace. Her anger had taken over her mind. She could only see the hatred for the man whom she called step-father and the sorrow that her beloved cyborg had given for her.
“Yuki-sama! Take a hold of yourself! Don’t let Black control you!” Rena shouted, tightening her grip on the girl and fighting her own psycho side not to make things worse.
Despite of her effort, the monster was still buried in its own desperation.
Like giving more chaos to the current situation, the main door of the house opened. Stepping in, another two people unwillingly became audiences and witnesses for a horrible bloody case.
“Y-Yuki... What... have you done...?” The young girl with short boyish hair in the two managed to speak in difficulty after both of them were frozen by the terrifying red color over the place and the bloody smell.
The cyborg was surprised and speechless when she saw her other masters standing there and seeing everything. She would never expect them to come home at this time. She would definitely not expect that day to turn out to be like this.
*THUD*
A body collapsed with a loud thud, echoing in the cold, silent room.
“MOM!” The boyish girl yelled in shock. She immediately kneed down and held up her fainted mother.
Finally, the girl gained back her consciousness. In the small bright corner of her darkness, the image of her lovely mother fainting caught her attention. Suddenly, the darkness disappeared from her surrounding.
“M-mom?”
The cyborg felt lighter. The girl inside her arms had relaxed. She had snapped out of her anger and now she was going through another depression. Rena watched her master’s shaking level hands rising up to eye level. Then as expect, she felt a new weight on her torso again when the girl was lost in her terror. Losing all of her strength, she stared at her hands and the bloody motionless body under her feet.
“W-What have I... done?” Her frightened and disbelief voice showed her fear and shock. Her eyes went wide; her breaths became short and rapid.
Rena saw how terrified her master was but her computer system couldn’t find a way to solve this mess when it was already overloaded because she had been through too much things at the same time. She had no choice but to seek for help from the other girl.
Sae caught her concern and pleading eyes. The Genking knew someday this would happen so she had prepared everything. She gently placed her mother down on the floor and ran as fast as she could to her room. Not even let the cyborg had a moment of disappointment, she came back with a large backpack that had everything she thought it was enough for them to escape. She threw it to Rena along with a black big coat.
“Rena, take Yuki to Takamina’s house immediately. I’ll take care of everything here.” Sae said with her calmest voice.
“W-What? Sae-sama? What are you talking about?” Rena caught all the flying things and replied surprisingly.
“Yuki’s mother has witnessed everything. When she’s awake, she will either kick Yuki out of the house or call the police to arrest her. Both is bad for Yuki anyway so it’s better for her to escape and run far away from here before she spends the rest of her life in jail.”
“But... What about you?”
“I’ll stay here to make sure everything is fine and cover for both of you. You have to go now.” Sae quickly put the coat in Rena’s arm onto Yuki to hide her face and hands while pushed the girls out of the house. “Go to Takamina’s place. She’ll guide you from here.”
Rena, having Yuki shaking in her arms, looked at Sae with a concern and thankful gaze. Unconsciously, her pink lips formed into a warm smile.
“Thank you... Sae-sama... You’re such a good person.”
“Don’t mention about that.” Sae took a final look at Yuki. “Please take care of her for me, Rena. She’ll need your help from now on.”
“I know... I will never leave her side. Trust me.” With the final words, Rena took Yuki away and disappeared into the twilight.
The boyish girl watched the blurry figures vanished with a sad look but a satisfied smile bloomed on her lips.
“From now on, you have to decide your own destiny, Yukirin... Good luck.”
##############################################
Somewhere in Tokyo, a short young girl was diving in the dream of her pink world. She was supposed to ride on her pink Unicorn if there wasn’t a loud knock on the door dragging her out of her beautiful dream.
She rolled down and hit her head on the floor due to the sudden wake-up.
“Itai...” The girl mumbled painfully.
*Knock Knock Knock*
“Minami-sama! Minami-sama! Open the door please!” A paranoid voice came from the other side of the main door, which woke Minami up completely.
“What the... Who are you?” She said in frustration.
“It’s Rena! Yuki-sama’s in danger. Please help us!”
After hearing that, Minami rushed out of her room to open the door. Standing there, an image of Rena holding a messy and shaking Yuki inside a big long black coat appeared behind the metallic door.
“Oh my God! What happened?”, asked shocked Minami.
“Long story. Can you let us in before I explain you everything?”
“Eh... Hai. Come on. Get inside.” The midget opened the door wider to allow the two newcomers going in. She looked around then closed the door, never forget to lock it just in case.
Rena gently let Yuki sit down on the couch and removed the coat around the girl, revealing the bloody hands to Minami. The girl just stood there and stared at the hands in horror.
“Minami-sama, can you please get for me some water to clean the blood. I’ll explain this to you later.”
“... S-sure...” Fighting back her fear, the midget ran away and then brought back a towel and a bucket of water for Rena.
She sat down and watched the cyborg cleaning the blood on the quiet girl. She now noticed that since the time both of them entered her house, Yuki had never spoken a word. The girl just let Rena lead herself around and stayed silent in the whole time. She knew something bad had happened to the girl but she didn’t dare ask the cyborg about it. She was afraid that it was a touching topic. But her curiosity won. She couldn’t keep herself from knowing why there was so much blood on the girl who was known that the kindest princess in her school.
“Rena...” She called the name quietly but it was enough for the cyborg to hear it.
“Hai?” Rena answered without interrupting her current task.
“W-What happened to Yukirin?”
“... Yuki-sama went out of her room this evening and she was insulted by her step-father. She got mad when that man talked about Mayu so... this is the result. Black took over her and beat him up.”
“Oh my... Even he deserved that but... Is he OK?”
“I don’t know... I was too busy with Yuki-sama to check on him. But the worst is that her mother came home and witnessed everything so Sae-sama told us to run away before Yuki is arrested.”
“Jesus....” The midget facepalmed. “I’m not so surprised if Yukirin get into this mess because of Mayu. And I bet Sae-chan told you two to come here, right?”
“Yes, she did.”
“Sure you two can stay here but not too long. Soon or later, the police will find here and take Yuki away. You two have to move away from Tokyo.”
“I know but Yuki-sama isn’t in a good condition right now...” Rena slowly took a look at the emotionless face of Yuki.
“I guess I have no other choice then...” Minami let out a heavy sigh then walked to Yuki with a hand rose up.
“W-Wait. Minami-sama! What are you-“
*SLAP*
A hand landed on the soft cheek of Yuki, making the girl’s face to move aside. Her eyes went bigger when she slowly turned her head back to look at the person who just gave her a slap.
“Taka... mina?”
“Snap out of it already Yukirin! How long are you going to keep torturing yourself like that?” Minami shouted in anger. “Do you think Mayu leave you for nothing? Do you think she would choose to leave her beloved for something like this? You had been living with her for 10 years already, for God’s sake! How can’t you know her better than anyone? Wake up Yukirin!”
“Takamina...” Yuki said softly.
“What?”
“I know that... I know her better than anyone else. I know she left me just for my good. But... I don’t know what to do now... I can’t do anything good without her... I miss Mayu...” The girl started to tear up.
“If you miss her then just go find her!” Suddenly, the midget blinked. “To think of that, maybe it’s a good idea... I bet Mayu isn’t in this city anymore since the girl doesn’t want anyone to find her. And by this, you two can take the chance to run away from the cops.”
“... Minami-sama... You’re off the topic...” Rena said confusingly.
“No no. I’m serious. The main cause for all of this is Yuki missing her lovely cyborg so to solve this problem, just go find the cyborg and leave this city.”
“But how can we find a person in this big country without knowing where she lives?” Rena sighed.
“... I think I know...”
Minami answered softly, causing the cyborg and the crying girl to look at her in surprise and disbelief.
“You do?” Rena asked shockingly.
“Well, I think so. Rena, do you know about the CIA, Cyborg Independent Agency?”
“Yes. Every cyborgs know about that. So?”
“So, I think Mayu goes there after she left. There is nowhere else that she can go right? She is a cyborg so she can’t go abroad without her master. She can’t just wander around Japan on the street or the RPA will catch her. The only place she could go is CIA, where she will find a place to live in peace.”
“You have your point there but...” Rena hesitated. “What if Mayu isn’t there?”
“... I don’t know... it’s just my guess.” Minami shrugged.
“And yet we don’t know where their bases are... It’s too risky.” Rena shook her head.
Rena and Minami looked at each other in silence for a moment before a voice broke the quiet atmosphere.
“I’ll go.”
Both girls turned to the source of the voice in surprise. They looked at Yuki, who was no longer crying. Instead, she wore a serious and resolute face, a rare expression that was seen in the past days.
“What?” The others girls asked in union.
“I’ll go find Mayu.” Yuki said again, in a louder volume.
“But Yuki-sama... You don’t know where she is.”
“I’ll take my chance in CIA. Like Takamina has said, she might be in CIA now.”
“B-but...”
“Rena, I’ve been such a coward in the past days and I don’t want to be one anymore. I don’t want to bother any of my friends and family because of my weakness and vulnerability. I’ll become stronger. And I’ll find Mayu!”
Yuki looked at Rena with burning eyes, stropping the cyborg form saying anything else. The cyborg just sighed while the midget giggled at the girl.
“Now that’s Yukirin I know.”
