CenNezu - Requiem
Red.
Everything turned red.
The red snow, the red sky.
It’s a beautiful world, a world full of red.Center tried to walk, she shuffled her feet. She succeed to ran away from a certain building after went inside, beaten some people, and reached its highest floor.
She leaned on a nearby tree, trying to catch her breath, which getting shorter and shorter every time she tried to. There is no single person who passed through the path in front of her.
She almost didn’t feel anything, numb. The stab wound on her stomach felt like nothing, it’s the second time. She felt a bit of pain on her head, blood covering her eyes; blurring her vision.
She took out her phone, dialing the only number she registered to it about a year ago. The person across the phone picked up.
“Hi…” she tried to talked as normal as she could, but panting instead. Her interlocutor felt annoyed by her phone call, but suspicious because something is weird with her way of talking.
“…I’ll take a nap for a…while. Guess where I am…” she cut off the phone before her interlocutor said anything.
She sighed and looked up to the sky. She smiled weakly, squeezed a piece of paper in her hand which tainted red with her blood.
“Kami-sama, are you judging me for everything I did until now?” Center closed her eyes.
----------------------------
“What was that?” She felt even more annoyed when the person who suddenly called her cut off the phone. She mailed her, but there was no response.
She put back her phone into her pocket and started to chew her gum again.
She knows something’s off from Center just now. It’s not her usual self, so she walked around the school to search for Center.
She met Kanburi on her way; the girl looked worried about something while glancing at Nezumi.
“Do you have something to say?” Nezumi glared at her, felt annoyed.
“I-It’s nothing…” she glanced away, trying not to make more eye contacts with Nezumi. But because of the curiosity, she dared to ask Nezumi, “…is Center alright?”
Nezumi stopped her steps. She glared again at Kanburi’s face, which filled with fear yet curiosity.
“Uh, forget what I said then...” Kanburi tried to walk away but Nezumi pushed her to the wall. She winced because of the pain on her back.
She promised Center not to tell about it to Nezumi, but the pressure from Nezumi forced her to speak. She told her, it seemed Center got a letter—the letter has a luxury envelope and sign in the middle of it. It supposed to be on Nezumi’s hand, but Center took it from the sender, a man with a black suit; looks like he’s an underling of yakuza, forcefully. The man ran away after got beaten by Center. She accidentally saw the action and Center told her that she went out for something.
Nezumi loosen her grips on Kanburi’s shoulders, and then she ran outside the school building.
She knows who the culprit is. It’s the yakuza group which was associated with her father long time ago, their relations didn’t end well. But it’s not the time to think about that group, Center is in danger.
After half an hour of running, she found Center; sitting leaned on the tree not far from the yakuza’s nest building. Blood is covering the snow on the ground around her.
She approached her, crouched beside her.
“What are you doing, idiot?” She brushed cheek with the back of her hand slowly.
The person she touched opened her eyes, blinked for a while and smiled weakly.
“We should call an ambulance, you lost too much blood,” When Nezumi took her phone, Center lowered her hand which hold the phone, and she hugged her instead.
“I want to stay like this for a while…no need…to call them,” Nezumi felt Center’s short breathing on her neck.
Warm, despite of her body is getting colder than before when she touched it. She hugged back and stays silent just like her friend wanted to.
Minutes passed, Center’s breath went weaker.
“…Why did you do that?” Nezumi asked. She clenched her hands on Center’s cardigan.
“Because…you’re my only friend…and…” she stopped a bit and whispered it directly to Nezumi’s ear. After that, her head fell slowly on Nezumi’s shoulder.
She is smiling with a relieved face.

Black.
Everyone wears black.
Black frame, black clothes, black umbrellas.
It’s a day full of sadness, world of black. The funeral ceremony is over. Everyone went home, instead of Nezumi. She stood in front Center’s altar. She wears her school uniform and black parka.
She stared at Center’s photo on the black frame with no expression when a man with black suit approaching her.
“So, she was your friend?” He took of his sunglasses. His face is full of scars, but her eyes are honest.
Nezumi didn’t respond to his question. He stood beside her and prayed in front of Center’s altar.
“She was coming to my office. What a fool girl,” Nezumi glared at him, “but I appreciate her bravery. She told me not to bother you ever again; her eyes back then were one of the real murderer-like eyes, she was serious. I didn’t mean to hurt her that far, but it seems my underlings were outrageous,” He finished praying.
“You had a nice friend,” he smiled and walked away.
Before the boss went too far, Nezumi called him, “Oji-san. I won’t ever forgive you,” she smirked, “that’s what I wanted to say at first, but my only friend told me not to have a grudge with you. I won’t take this case to the police, but don’t ever send your underlings nor appear in front of my eyes after this,”
The boss put his sunglasses back and waved to Nezumi from his back.
She continued to stare on Center’s photo, and remembered her last sentence.
Because…you’re my only friend…and…I love you…Mayu.“You were and are always an idiot, Jurina,” she crouched down and prayed.
Mournful that day
When from the dust shall rise
Guilty man to be judged.
Therefore spare him, O God.
Merciful Jesu,
Lord Grant them rest.[Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Requiem – Sequentia]
