One Shot Series 9-Baby! Baby! Baby!

Baby! Baby! Baby!
It was summer time and Takahashi Minami was at the beach. She had been at her house, doing schoolwork, when she noticed the beach calling to her through her window and suddenly found it irresistible. Twenty minutes later, she was out on the sand in the warm sunshine, listening to the sounds of the beach and people playing and splashing. Suddenly schoolwork was irrelevant.

Minami became aware of a beach volleyball game taking place and turned to watch. It didn't seem to be a really serious game, at least none of the players seemed to be really good. They were just laughing and having a good time. Minami envied them. She had been told by a lot of people that she was too serious, and that she would have a lot more fun if she lightened up. These people were able to completely fail at their game and still have fun. Minami noticed in particular one girl. She was laughing, and her smile was beautiful. Her dark hair was held up, showing off her face, and she wore a yellow bikini with a matching, ruffled skirt. Since the moment Minami caught sight of her, she didn't want to take her eyes off her.
"Acchan, you're so bad at this!" One of the members of the other team called, and the girl, who Minami guessed was Acchan, laughed worriedly.
"It's ok. This is fun!" One of her teammates reassured Acchan, then stuck her tongue out at the other team, causing laughter on both sides.
Minami found herself smiling at this scene. Then the game ended as one team reached twenty-five points, and one of the players announced through a megaphone that more players were welcome.
Before Minami had even thought about it, she was up and striding towards the court, towards the same side as Acchan. About halfway there, she thought, "What am I doing? I can't play volleyball," but by then it would've just looked awkward to go back so she kept going. She and eight other people were gathered around the net, Minami making sure to stand near Acchan. Unfortunately for her, the teams were redistributed, and Minami ended up on the opposite team as Acchan. Her heart sank, and as the game started she felt a little lost. As she expected, she was terrible. She was even starting to get upset with herself when she heard Acchan laughing. She looked up from the sand and instantly cheered up. In fact, as the game continued, she found herself starting to have fun. At one point, although Minami couldn't remember when, Acchan even smiled at her and she did her best to smile back, hoping she didn't look awkward. She began to focus her efforts on getting Acchan to notice her. She wanted that clean white smile all to herself, those sparking eyes that made her prisoner for her own. Unfortunately, when she did get Acchan's attention, it wasn't in the way she hoped. Distracted, Minami didn't notice the ball until it smacked into the side of her head.
Suddenly concerned, the other players ran toward their fallen comrade, though none of them knew what to do. Minami wasn't passed out; while her vision had gone black and she was dizzy she should still hear.
"Someone get water."
"Give her air! Don't crowd!"
"Should we call an ambulance?"
"Well, at least she kept them from getting a point."
"Mayu! That's not nice."
And then she really did pass out.

She opened her eyes. She was sitting on the edge of a pool, with her legs submerged in the water that was blissfully cool on a hot day. She became aware of the girl sitting next to her, smiling. Minami said something that made Acchan laugh, and that made Minami smile. In fact, they were both so cheerful that for some carefree reason, Minami leaned forward so their noses were almost touching, their lips were close...

Minami awoke with a throbbing headache to the sight of yellow. Her vision clearing, she made out the form of Acchan leaving over her, concerned.
"Are you all right?" She said.
As Minami nodded, her head spun. Even so, she tried to sit up, and all the nervous beach-goers around her backed up to give her space. Acchan, realizing what Minami was trying to do, gently took her shoulders and lowered her back down onto the sand. Now Acchan was leaning over her, practically on top of her, and Minami tried not to blush, suddenly remembering her dream.
"Please don't get up yet. We've called for an ambulance, and I don't want you to get sick until I know you're in good hands." Acchan said. A few minutes later, an ambulance pulled up, and after a careful inspection, the EMS allowed Minami to go free under the condition that she rest for the rest of the day and went to the hospital of she felt sick at all. Minami eagerly agreed, and the game continued in lifted spirits as Minami sat on the sidelines, watching Acchan in the midsummer sunlight until the day ended and the volleyball players packed up with a promise to meet again the next day.
