The Walking Dead is an upcoming American television series created for television by Frank Darabont and based upon the comic book series of the same name created by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore. It will premiere on the AMC network on October 31, 2010 with a 90-minute premiere episode, during the network's "Fearfest."

The Walking Dead tells the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse and follows a small group of survivors traveling across the United States in search of a new home away from the hordes of zombies. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group's desperation to survive pushes them to do almost anything to stay alive

I just started reading the comic about a week ago and I'm really enjoying it. I read a lot of good things about it and then heard about the show. I'm looking forward to this, too.

I love zombies, and The Walking Dead comic is absolutely amazing. Okay, so I've never made it past volume 5... or 6, because I can never remember how many volumes I own when I'm at the comic book store T_T;;;; BUT ONE DAY~... I'll buy the rest and read it all 8D! Really looking forward to the show... from the trailers and previews I've seen so far, it looks like one hell of a show :D

And I assume people have seen this amazing fan-made credits mock up? *o*

The first episode has leaked (not very good quality though)... I watched it and liked it!! Only minus would be that based on trailers and stuff I'd read earlier, I could guess almost everything that happened in the episode. But after this it should get only more exciting :3

I thought it was unbelievable. Andrew Lincoln is a great actor, my only concern as it were was on how convincing he can pull off an American accent, but no problems from what I can see. The zombies look creepy as hell and I genuinely felt this rush and sense of dread when he found the horde of zombies in Atlanta. Super excited about this series now and can only wonder where it goes from here.

How amazing is this show? I've been completely gripped by every scene. There's only 2 episodes left to go in what is a ridiculously short season. On the plus side, Season 2 is already confirmed (http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/walking-dead-season-2-wont-arrive-until-october-2011/)

I'm not completely caught up yet (just watched ep. 4). Absolutely love the show, but I keep feeling that they're adding stuff in that wasn't in the comics? I don't know, nor do I really care. I'm a firm believer in different media = different story, and that's the way it should be.. it just kind of surprised me, because the previews and the first episode made it look like the series would follow every detail of the comic.

Then again, it's been ages since I actually read the comic XD Perhaps I'm just remembering it wrong.

^ They've actually changed a lot of things on purpose. The creator says that this way they can bring uncertainty to those viewers who have read the comic, so they can't know what's going to happen either, and it's more interesting to them

I really liked the first season! I've read a lot of comments about the show being boring and slow, but I guess those people don't watch Mad Men or Boardwalk Empire, The Wire etc. I'm totally fine with the current pace, and I don't find the so-called boring scenes boring at all really LOL

I want to marry Glenn  I love his "OH SHIT OH SHIT" face XD

Oh and... I acquired the comics o-o I got tired of people talking about them and not knowing what they're talking about haha.. So I guess I'll read them

Good! As I said, different media should be a different story. I like that they've done that :D

I've heard several people complain about it being slow too, yet they continue to watch it so... :monster: I think it makes perfect sense to have it be slow paced. I mean... the world basically just ended. There's nothing left for the people to do than just... get by, really. I think the show really captures that by lingering on "slow" moments.

Yay, the comics :D I need to re-read mine, and get a hold of the rest of the series. I realised I only have four volumes of it!

Post by: Stryfe on December 07, 2010, 09:37:47 PM
Great show, I think the pace is perfect really.

Only problem is that with just 6 eps, the first season did seem kind of short, especially considering said slow pace.

Second season will be 13 eps, so it seems this problem will be fixed.  :cow:

There's a comparison of the comic and the TV series here which makes a good read (http://www.comicvine.com/news/amcs-the-walking-dead-comics-comparison-and-analysis/142588/)

I didn't actually read through it though because I'm thinking about buying the comics. That's the good thing about making it different for TV though, it actually encourages someone like me to go pick up the source material and see how it differs. Why would the die hards want each scene recreated frame by frame? That story's been told.

I shouldn't laugh, but it is quite funny

Quote
'An advertising firm apologised for placing a billboard for a TV show called The Walking Dead on the side of a funeral parlour. The unintended, "unfortunate juxtaposition" caused raised eyebrows in Consett, County Durham. The roadside advert for the Channel 5 post-apocalyptic drama has since been removed from the exterior wall of the Co-operative Funeralcare premises, and an alternative has been pasted in its place. A spokeswoman for Clear Channel, the firm responsible for the billboard, said it was sorry. 'Clear Channel apologises for any offence caused by the unfortunate juxtaposition of this advertisement, which was certainly not intended,' she said. 'We arranged to have it moved right away and it has now come down'

I usually hate zombie media, but I've heard really good things about this show. Is there an actual story, and if so can someone give me the broad strokes? I don't want to watch if it's just going to be zombie killing.

EDIT: To give an idea, the only zombie movies in recent time I've liked have been Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland.
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Tuffty on July 24, 2011, 01:58:19 AM
There's absolutely a story! In fact, it's perhaps the only zombie story I've seen thus far that really places the emphasis on the story and the characters. So much so, that the killing zombies part of it is secondary.

Imagine if you will, a man wakes up in a hospital bed and soon discovers there's nobody in it. Nobody that is, except for reanimated corpses intent of eating him. He escapes with his life but realises the whole world's gone downhill as he wanders around. There's nobody around and sees more and more corpses, reanimated or otherwise, line the streets. He's all alone, and he's wondering if his wife and son survived. That's the initial premise at least, and it would be criminal of me to say anymore. But needless to say, the story revolves around just how do people continue to go on living their lives in the aftermath of such a terrible disaster and what it takes to survive in this setting. Watch the 1st episode at least, it's paced perfectly and is perhaps one of the best episodes you'll ever see.
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: mjolnir870 on July 24, 2011, 06:39:54 AM
That was almost exactly what I was hoping to hear! Shaun of the Dead also used zombies as secondary to the real plot of Shaun trying to put his life in order. I'll give it a go. Have you read the comics as well, and if so, can you comment on them?
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Tuffty on July 27, 2011, 09:18:49 PM
Sadly no, although they're meant to be amazing. Apparently there are differences between the show and the comics.

Sadly, Frank Darabont has left the series. Rumour has it he'll still be involved in some capacity just not in a leadership role. A shame, but have to be thankful to him for getting the adaptation on TV in the first place.

Here's the Season 2 trailer and I just cannot wait til October

Reminds me I've rewatched the Silent Hill movie since watching season 1 of The Walking Dead (IT WAS FOR A WATCHING PARTY OK I DIDN'T DECIDE ON THE FILM) and I now love the actress for Andrea, the blonde girl whose sister died, much more and HOPEFULLY she will be kicking some serious ass in the next season :O~

It'd definately a slow paced show but they are slow zombies. :P

Really enjoyed the 1st episode, that scene with the zombies walking past was intense! It went on for like 5 mins and I was on the edge of my seat thinking someone was gonna fuck up. I did think the zombies in the church just sitting there in their Sunday best was a little silly but meh. Some wonderfully gory moments already. Don't watch it when you're eating dinner

I've given up reading comic fans opinions on the show cause they are never satisfied with the show if there's a new scene not in the comics. I don't understand why people keep watching something if they apparently dislike it so much.

i know its slow, but it feels really slow this season.

feels like nothing is happening these past few eps =) there's been like, 1 or 2 30second action scene per episode... So much slow dialogue. pregnancy, farmer's daughter, missing child, cold blooded shane, its like a soap opera

its still good and i enjoy it, but i want some zombie action!
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: shirenuファクトリー on November 23, 2011, 11:02:59 AM
I agree this season has been slow as hell. Sometimes there's a pause in dialogue and you can seriously hear like... bugs or birds chirping in the background and I think really? REALLY?

Especially in comparison to the comic, the show is sooo sloooow...

I hate Shane but at the same time, he's like the only character making things INTERESTING right now.

Rick is about as interesting as an empty paper bag. Lori annoys me, not just because of how she behaves, but the actress does "crying" scenes with dry eyes which is like my pet peeve lol she just talks the lines. Everyone is stuck with pretty much one expression which is either :| or :o <- Dale

Andrea finally became the badass aimer she is in the comic, but even that was done in an annoying way where she is apparently incapable of stopping when told or asked.

Daryl and Glenn are like the saving graces, but I can't even really take Daryl that seriously after reading that he's basically a self-insertion character (badass who never does wrong). OMG.

I FEEL BETTER NOW AFTER HAVING COMPLAINED!!!
I actually still like the show enough to watch, and still think it has potential, but they NEED TO LEAVE THE MOTHERFUCKING FARM ALREADY.
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Tuffty on November 23, 2011, 08:37:34 PM
It is slow but actually, I don't really mind it. I think it would be too ridiculous to have the group running away from walkers every week, it would kill any sense of suspense. With things as they are, I feel like anytime walkers make an appearance, then it is dangerous for everyone.

I can't determine if the people criticising the show are doing it because they have read the comics and are unhappy that the show isn't a literal translation of the source material or whether they are judging it as a standalone TV show without having that preconception. I've not read the comics yet (what am I doing?) and I think it's pretty good. I hate to admit it though, but the characters in that group are kind of unlikeable. I don't mind Rick, Glenn's really the only 'innocent' adult in there and Daryl is an American badass. But everyone else? Shane's definately an interesting character who I don't mind, but Lori, T-Dawg and Andrea are becoming increasingly unlikeable. And Sophia's mother just cries all the time and contributes nothing. I get her daughter is missing but really, that is the only thing defining that character. I don't even know her name!

I hate to make comparisons but at least Lost had likeable characters in there among the self-serving assholes. Maybe the group just needs to be expanded out a bit? Throw a few more characters in there and see what's up? Despite all of what I said, I still think it's a decent show, it's just not quite as good now as it once was. Well I think there's a mid-season finale after this one and it won't be back until Feb next year, so maybe they can sort something out til then? Maybe? Hopefully! I hear the finale is pretty revelatory though, apparently things won't be the same again, which could mean something to you comic readers.

I think they're soon steering a little closer to it, idk. They fired the show runner who had some of the ideas that differed from the comics... Personally I'm glad because the episodes have been more fast-paced now. The characters are still idiots, but at least they are ACTIVE idiots now lol

As for the old guy getting killed off, I hear there was drama that the actor said he'd quit because they fired the above mentioned show runner. Then he changed his mind, but show producers were like "lol, too late" so he got off'd anyway. o-o

I can't believe the stupidity with the outsider kid. "Let's save him." "Now we have to dump him." "We have to kill him." "Let's torture him first to get answers yay!" "Let's let him listen to all our private conversations so he can tell his people everything. <3" "OK now let's kill him." "OOP! Can't kill him because will SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN..."

A prison... :)

LOL I knew everything that was going to happen because I read detailed spoilers a week ago  But I still really enjoyed it. I think I like this method for myself with this show because of the slow periods they've had; I prefer to know in advance what's going to happen so I'll know how much time to waste on each episode (this one was worth it from beginning to end).

I was worried that this show wouldn't be able to get me pumped up again, but I'm def looking forward to the next season! Also, I like Andrea more now  (I mean, surviving that long solo is pretty cool.)

Did Carol seriously think she could go off and survive on her own? She's the least effective member of the group!

Really enjoyed the season. It had it's ups and downs but you also have to consider that the budget was fairly low, AMC gave it away to fund Mad Men some more. Though it's not really a defense because some of the characters (looking at you Lori) have been so annoying this season with their constant indecision, complete u-turns and in Lori's case, practically setting Rick and Shane off against each other. "Ooooh Rick's been away for 5 mins, I better go after him even though I'm pregnant and there's walkers out there." NO! NO! STAY HOME AND LOOK AFTER YOUR FUCKING SON!

I take it the hooded samurai chick is Tara from True Blood (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/GraphicCity/news/?a=51102). Here's hoping she's less annoying than she was in that.

Ah nice! Really want to read ahead and find out more about the jail. Also, I'm not sure what to make of this new character. Seems like she's a bit too...comic book ish? Stupid thing to say seeing as The Walking Dea is a comic, but the show so far seems fairly focused on realism and this one seems almost like a super hero, and I'm not sure it's a direction I want the show to go down. I could very well be wrong and end up loving it though XD

All I know is that Rick is turning out awesome.

Trust me, everything about Michonne will make sense. The show needs more characters that aren't complete fucking idiots, anyway.  I don't remember if I've seen Danai Gurira's acting, she had a small part in Treme but I haven't watched that in a while... stoked anyhow.

I still find it amusing that for the TV version, they took out the very useful, likeable and kick-ass black dude (Tyreese) of the original comic and replaced him with... T-Dog.

Oh shit, Michonne looks perfect and badass. Some of the sets and surroundings seen in the teaser are STRAIGHT out of the comic, love it.

Looks like they've changed the Governor's look to a more normal dude, and I don't think it's that bad of an idea, really. He was somewhat caricature in the comic, I always thought.

But anyway, stoooked!

The Walking Dead video game, previously a multi part digital release, is coming out onto a disc, and the collectors edition is coming with the first 48 issues of the graphic novel. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-10-22-the-walking-dead-collectors-edition-is-a-gamestop-exclusive) I'm absolutely getting that, it's great for someone like me who's never read the graphic novels. The game is meant to tell an amazing story too, I know nothing of the storyline other than hearing it on game podcasts and the games are incredible and that it's even better than the TV show.

Oh my god. Oh. My. GAWD

What happened to this show? The contrast between S2 and S3 so far is huge. The most recent episode continues to deliver the goods, in what is the most unremittingly dark and depressing episode yet.

Have to say as well..*SPOILERS*

Andrew Lincoln was absolutely spot on with Rick's reaction that Lori died. Whatever your thoughts on Lori were (and I know I wasn't a fan), the impact it had on Rick made you wish she survived after all. No ham fisted screaming in frustration or pounding on walls, that was the reaction of a man who just broke down after finding out the woman he loved, the mother of his children, had died.

And poor old T-Dogg. Said more in the first episode than he did all second season. And I wonder if Carol survived?

^ I saw the next preview and they were digging three graves. I will admit I cried when Lori died and during Rick's reaction.

Also, The Walking Dead and Toy Story are one and the same. (http://www.buzzfeed.com/daves4/undeniable-proof-that-the-walking-dead-and-toy-story-have-th)

Anyone else feel that S3 has kind of slowed down since the first half? It would be foolish to think that the pace of S3 could be maintained throughout the season but it just seems that it's fallen back on familiar tropes of having the characters make stupid decisions to create fake dramatic tension.

Of course having said that, it doesn't help that the show keeps going through different showrunners, with ones taking on other people's story arcs and having to work around that. The last few episodes have been taken on by a new showrunner, one who will lead the show next season, and I gotta say it seems promising. The past few episodes have been really good, the Rick/Carl/Michonne centered one in particular. Here's hoping he stays. And that he kills off Andrea soon because fuck Andrea.

I think the game tells a better story than the show though. Not because the show is really bad, but because the game is really good.

i think that plot doesnt construct properly..at least they should make 1 episode just to dedicated the journey of sophia when shes missing until how she turn out as zombie..this side story really cleared out the curiosity that still hunts me
