[04/06] Morning Musume's 45th single [Majidesu ka Ska! まじですかスカ!]

Tsunku wrote some comments about the single and 9th gen on his blog today.
I tried my hand at translating it:

Morning Musume 4/6 release single "Maji Desu ka Ska!"

This is Morning Musume's 45th single.
For the 9th generation members, it's also their first single.

Since new members have been added, I've been wracking my brain this time.
It's been quite stimulating.

The good thing about Morning Musume going without new members for a long time
is that their skills have increased greatly.

Moreover, their musical potential has also increased.

However, since new members have joined, I've concluded that
it doesn't seem suitable to give them a song that's too difficult.

On the other hand, giving them a song that's too simple wouldn't
be sufficiently stimulating to the older members.

Since it's also a very important song for them, I've concentrated and spent particular care on
making a song positioned one step above the new members' current abilities.

The resulting song is Ska, a genre related to Reggae.

I've chosen this genre for its strong up-beat, making it easy to excited about
as well as give it an extravagantly cheerful arrangement.

The 9th generation is certainly bright and cheerful.
But looking closer, they're actually quite complex.

Sayashi's seldom-seen smile is precious.
From here on, she can be much more high-tension!
Suzuki is the most cheerful member and is a hard worker.
I'll be counting on her to keep her brightness and humor!
Ikuta is the Positive-Thinking Musume.
Well, even though her ability to concentrate is immature, she'll do her best!
Fukumura is a girl who's not aware of her own airheadedness. Of course she has attractiveness too.
She should definitely keep her my-pace attitude.

With the addition of these 4 new members,
Morning Musume's brightness has become more evident.
It's not just the brightness of the new members themselves
but it's like they transformed into a brighter group through a chemical reaction.

With the wish that the girls' smiles will raise Japan's spirits,
the song has been finished!
In the music video, Mitsui dresses up as Hanasaka Jiisan
and makes sunflowers bloom on cacti.

Even though Takahashi will be only participating in a few more singles before she graduates,
this time she's being enthusiastic and having fun.
Tanaka Reina's singing really pulls the team along.
Thanks to Michishige's TV appearances, her self confidence comes out in her voice.
Niigaki, in the role of a good big sister, watches over the new girls' problems.
In her work, her guts enliven the team.

As for the B-side
I wrote the song with the adult members in mind.
Of course the 9th generation members sing too!

P.S. This single was originally to be released on March 23rd,
but was postponed in acknowledgement of the recent earthquakes.
In these times, Japan could use a little vigor! That's why right now
I think that the girls' pure singing voices and those like them
are truly a precious national resource.

'New' Morning Musume is looking good  I gotta admit, the idea of adding 4 really young girls was a bit  at first, but now I'm sure it'll turn out to be great.

OH! O _ O I thought that most likely Aika got that part as she was the youngest/"newest" member before 9th gen but now she isn't so it almost brought attention to her...
I mean- before the JunLinEri graduation, Aika wasn't really a centre girl or having leading lines- so it almost brings her forward slightly as one of the older 5 girls- since she's a couple of gens below the 5th and 6th gen remaining and quite young. At the same time though- that also makes her stand out a fair bit (possibly too much? D: ).
I've also been thinking that a fair bit when they show her helping/lecturing 9th gen in rehersals, like they're making an effort to show her teaching them- but that could also just be Aika herself making more of an effort to help (it's her first time with younger girls/gen so she's taking advantage of being able to help/boss around the girls )
