Title: Similarities in some H!P songs to other non-H!P songs?

"As everybody knows, "LOVE Machine" is Tsuku's interpretation of Bananarama version of "Venus" ...." from the love machine section of this site (http://park10.wakwak.com/~techno/tsunku.html#Morning%20Musume).

That site makes it look like common knowledge but is it really??  Was this ever officially produced in a magazine??  It does sound a lot like it.. the bass line at least.. and the whole "feel" of it.

--------------------

Also, they say Koi no Dance Site is a cover of "Dschinghis Khan".  I can hear more similarities in this.  It's almost exact.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=c3mIvZg8XIU @ 1:29 in the video.

--------------------

Let's not only discuss these similarities, and other ones you've noticed too.

Dschinghis Khan FTMFW!!! That song was on regular rotation in the IRC for weeks

marimari loved that song and vid :/

I can't really think of other off the top of my head.

I remember there being a discussion about Manpower, but can't remember the song it sampled.

that weird noise just before they start singing the song was thought to be a part from the Sabre Dance (http://youtube.com/watch?v=70i95-HL3Hc) sped up and probably backwards?

I thought the beat to Osaka Koi no Uta sounded like No Doubt's "Hey Baby" I did have a clip where the beats of both songs were combined together.

and I remember alot of people mentioned that the guitar part in Sexy Boy sounded like the chorus of Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire"

Sometimes it's just straight up copying from other songs. Like v-u-den's Bi ~Hit Parade~ and that N.E.R.D. song. And people said Nukegara's intro is like some Police's song's intro.

And listen to this song's intro. Which H!P intro does it sound like? :D

Oh God

Balalaika sounds like Neopolitan no Sauce, which is a character song from Negima!? sung by the characters Motsu & Shichimi.

Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari 2/3 is similar to Shuuseki Bangou no Uta, which is a character song from Negima! sung by Class 2-A (the girls all sing a verse about themselves.. go figure.)

Mayonaka no Philosophy (also from Negima!?) sounds like something Ayaya would sing.

Whatever Paradise sounds like Infinity Love 2U/YELL@ (both Negima!? songs)

Never Give Up! could be a W song.

Ponpon ryoute ni areba Win could also be a W song.

Kono Machi by Hajime Chitose could be a Maeda or Yuko song.

And I'll stop there.

(By the way, Negima! is the first series and Negima!? is the second, semi-AU one)

The beginning of W's "Miss Love Tantei" sounds awfully similar to t.A.T.u's "Not Gonna Get Us". Really similar. You can almost hear the words  . I forgot where I read this, it was on thePPN or something.

"Miss Love Tantei" → http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLY5oF7KXnw
"Not Gonna Get Us" → http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWlvMVc2RH8

The following are both Tsunku produced but hey, they're not both H!P x_X. It's Berryz Koubou's "Special Generation" and Tokitou Ami (TNX)'s "Sentimental Generation" (XD they both even have a word in common). It's not actually that similar though, it's only in certain parts and the parts pretty much fly by pretty quickly. For example, in Berryz Koubou's, the "Special Generation" part and in Tokitou Ami the beginning ("bokura no sedai ga").

"Special Generation" → http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8g9b3VNoF4
"Sentimental Generation" → http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTn8H_AJuKk

On the note of Negima! image songs, I think I remember that I thought Chiu's image song sounded a lot like some other song. I *think* it was an H!P song but I'm not sure.

Goto's "Some Boys! Touch" was inspired by Madonna's "Vogue", both in terms of video and the song. With the song, it's the whispering part at the beginning that's the most noticable when it comes to similarities between the two.

Balalaika is the name of a Russian folk music instrument.  In the last 100-200 years it was also used heavily as an orchestra instrument.  So basically it sounds like a billion Russian songs because it uses one of the instruments most associated with Russian music.

Anyway, for one of the really obvious ones:
Berryz Koubou's Jiriri Kiteru borrows heavily from Chopin's Revolutionary Etude.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hOKcdZJJFU  Not the first song to do so either, Kakumei from DDR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12J9KemWMfE is probably one of the better known ones to do so.  Funny is the number of times I heard "this sounds like a DDR song" about it because of that, without anyone recognizing the classical origin ^^;

Ï know that, I was being sarcastic, because if you search hard enough, you will always find similarities between different songs. Take a U2 song, and compare it with some Beatles songs, chances are you'll find one or two that make you say "hey, this is where they got that from". Same happens to H!P music, same happens to ANY music

Aisha Loan De uses the riff from "My Sharona" by The Knack.  When pronounced in Japanese (Aisha Roan-de) the title sounds very similar too.

Yeah just the opening part sounds like the intro to "Message In A Bottle" by Police.

Tokyo Performance Doll?  No idea what the song is supposed to sound like, but is there any connection with Osaka Performance Doll? (OPD featured Inaba Atsuko in one of their lineups).

Ever since I first heard Sexy Boy, I've been convinced they lifted it from a Mega Man game.  I like the Mega Man music (especially from Mega Man 2 and 3), so it's not a complaint, just an observation.  Every time I hear it, it makes me want to play one of the games... :D

Ayaya's 100kai no KISS and MKB's saa, sassoku ni moriagete ikou ka!! are the EXACT SAME SONG with different arrangements and lyrics.

Also, Tanpopo's otome pasta ni kandou is some Beatles song that I can't recall the name of.

It has the backbeat of the interstitial portion between "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" as well as something of "Getting Better."

Another Tanpopo-Beatles matchup would be "Baby Cry" and "Savoy Truffle" (which precedes a song called "Cry Baby Cry" on the "The Beatles" CD)

When Go Girl! Koi no Victory first came out the first thing that came to my mind was Pat Boone's "Speedy Gonzales".

http://youtu.be/i3uuVbuucHA?t=1m5s (http://youtu.be/i3uuVbuucHA?t=1m5s)

http://youtu.be/9do1CqaqWkY?t=1m12s (http://youtu.be/9do1CqaqWkY?t=1m12s)

Also, most of Tanpopo's discography is directly drawn from the Beatles, but the most blatant examples would be the piano chords in Be Happy Koi no Yajirobee and the use of the harpsichord in Koi wo Shichaimashita:

http://youtu.be/POXeztEWOQo?t=3m16s (http://youtu.be/POXeztEWOQo?t=3m16s)

http://youtu.be/zI0Q8ytD44Y?t=1m45s (http://youtu.be/zI0Q8ytD44Y?t=1m45s)

(In My Life's harpsichord started my love for baroque music  )

Aaaaaand, I would swear the intro in Nanchatte Renai comes from a classical piece but I can't find which one  :huhuh

This is technically not H!P so not sure if it counts, but I was listening to the acoustic version of Kikka's "Kikkake wa You" earlier and realized the main intro/outro melody sounded like a Lupe Fiasco song...
Kikkawa You - 1st Single : ''Kikkake wa YOU!" (*The Reason is YOU!) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2vMUr7HvCE#)
Lupe - Fiasco- Coming Up ft. MDMA (Lyrics) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdQPaKOWFPw#ws)

Both songs were released around the same time (Lupe's was first by two months), and were possibly recorded around the same time as well, so no telling who inspired who here; it's most likely a crazy coincidence. Actually I just remembered all the drama and delays surrounding the Lasers album, so maybe that tracked leaked and gave inspiration?

^ I should also add to that: "Love Together" by Berryz Kobo...seriously, try singing "Never Gonna Give Up" over the chorus :P
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M9TJpLTcw8

Another song with a chorus just like that: "Bacchikoi Seishun" by Kobushi Factory!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtjqUqT_uiQ

It's colloquially known as the "Royal Road chord progression", and it's one of the most (over)used chords in j-pop.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VuAS1ksuYI

The stretched out version of the chords, famously exemplified in the chorus of Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", can be heard in the chorus of Juice=Juice's "Keep On Joushou Shikou" (fastforward to 1:14)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3ewojUpI6U&t=1m14s

It's led to me eventually creating this "Love Machine" remix:
https://soundcloud.com/j-triumf/rickroll-machine

How about a reversal of this topic? MC Frontalot's "Mornings Come and Go", released in 2014, sounds pretty similar to the 2005 Berryz classic "Special Generation":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpceBDt2RBU
