The Legend of Zelda ( ゼルダの伝説, Zeruda no Densetsu? ) is an action-adventure video game series created by game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka and developed and published by Nintendo. The gameplay consists of a mixture of action, adventure, puzzle solving, and role-playing. The series centers on Link, the main playable character and protagonist. Link is often given the task of rescuing Princess Zelda and the most common setting of the series, Hyrule, from Ganon who is the primary antagonist of the series. However, other settings and antagonists have appeared throughout the games, with Vaati having recently become the series' secondary antagonist. The story commonly involves a relic known as the Triforce, a set of three golden triangles of omnipotence.

The protagonist in each game is usually not the same iteration of Link, but a few exceptions do exist. The Legend of Zelda series has sold over 52 million copies since the release of the first game, The Legend of Zelda, and continues to be successful worldwide. The series consists of fourteen official games on all of Nintendo's major consoles, as well as several spin-offs. An animated series based on the games aired in 1989, and individual manga adaptions which are officially endorsed and commissioned by Nintendo have been produced in Japan since 1997.

My favorite game is definitely The Windwaker. I'm pretty sure I'm in a small minority here, but there's something about that game that just draws me to it. I've replayed it PLENTY of times. Like everyone else, I do have a problem with the crazy amount of sailing, but the game is soooo much fun and there's plenty of lol-moments.

I do love the entire series, though. Not going to lie, I used to make it hobby of mine to see how fast I could go through the first game. I know it like the back of my hand.

Not a huge Zelda fan, but I did enjoy Ocarina of Time.  I loved messing with the homicidal chickens.  :nervous

I LOVE the music, too.  I learned how to play the Gerudo Valley theme on guitar.  My bro and I also like to rawk out playing the Zelda Theme.  :thumbsup

I love me some LoZ  Its hard to say which game is my favorite. I also enjoyed Windwalker (Link at his cutest). The damn skulltulas still scare the shit out of me when I play in the dark.

Best game thread ever made.

Zelda is the game that got me into video games, and it's always been my favorite since. I've beaten all the games, multiple times~ And I gotta say, even though Twilight Princess was really awesome, Ocarina of Time is definitely my favorite AND Twilight Princess was loosely based off of Ocarina of Time, meaning Twilight Princess would be nothing without it XD

Not going to lie, I used to make it hobby of mine to see how fast I could go through the first game. I know it like the back of my hand.

I do that with OoT.

The Zelda games have been consistently quality games. But I say Majora's Mask wasn't as good as it could have been

Ocarina of Time is deservedly a classic. Only recent game in the Zelda series I haven't played is Twilight Princess but I have a Wii now so I have no excuse. Wind Waker was unfairly disregarded because of it's cel shaded style. It was still Zelda, you could still kick chickens and collect the Triforce. Only game I don't have as much love for is Phantom Hourglass, and I've played Majora's Mask. Having to go back into that Temple after every dungeon quickly grated.

I've only played the original Zelda on NES, aeons ago, and Phantom Hourglass on DS.

Phantom Hourglass is one of the defining DS games because of how it uses the touchscreen so flawlessly for movement, battle and puzzles. Such innovation! ;__; Definitely one of my fave DS games. Can't wait 'til the sequel.

Majora's Mask was the only game I believe I didn't finish. I got tired of going back in time so damn much.

I used to have a crush on Link when I was younger XD
My favorite game is Wind Waker, I think I've beaten that like.. 6 times? Never gets old.
My first game was Majora's mask, and I got that when I was young, so I was a bit of a noob. I started playing again last summer, and got all the way to the Zora level, only to get lost in the temple, with time running out. That always creeped me out, the whole moon falling and all.

I love this series so much, that I'm contemplating getting a triforce tattoo. The triforce graphic with the wings surronding it

Well, I haven't played the game yet, but at least I used the twilight hack  :D
I'm not of those big zelda fans, actually, I don't even consider myself a Zelda fan since I mostly dislike it.
I've played Ocarina of time and done everything on it, and it's a good game, but not as people say it is. Phantom Hourglass I went through half of it, not bad, but I don't see me coming back to the other half.

But I'll give Twilight Princess a chance, too bad Final Fantasy XIII is coming out now, so I'll have to postpone my Zelda playtime.

Anyone else playing Spirit Tracks? I think it's really good! I wasn't expecting much after the disappointment of Phantom Hourglass. That freaking Spirit Temple just completely killed any desire I had left for it, and when I heard Spirit Tracks had a Spirit Temple too I just lost interest in it. But I got it for Christmas and luckily it's better than I expected. The Spirit Temple sections luckily don't have Time Limits anymore which improves them dramatically and overall it's a very charming game that's probably the funniest Zelda game I've played. I highly recommend it.
Title: Re: The Zelda Thread
Post by: A1 on January 02, 2010, 12:21:26 PM
Tuffy I'm still playing it right now. The two things that are bothering me about the game one is finding rare items to make into train parts. The second thing was Zelda sometimes gets annoying and I just want to hit her with my whip. The part that I'm on right now is the fire temple. The puzzles aren't difficult so anybody could pick it up to play.
Title: Re: The Zelda Thread
Post by: Saikami on January 12, 2010, 02:27:20 PM
Yeah, I got Spirit Tracks for Christmas, too, and I really enjoy it! I never played Phantom Hourglass (even if it sucks, I will still play it someday!) But I really like how the DS works with the game, like by blowing into it to play the flute. :w00t: My DS is still fairly new, so I this is the first game that I've played with the concept of using the touch pad, drawing, and mic so much. :)

Oh, and I know this is a bit random, but I'm totally going as OoT Link for Anime Boston
Title: Re: The Zelda Thread
Post by: Gyan on January 12, 2010, 02:51:38 PM
I agree with Tuffty, I really enjoyed Spirit Tracks. I think it is far away better than Phantom Hourglass.
The train system is fun and well done and some dongons require three neurons instead of two.
And above all musics are wonderful ! (close to Celtic harmonies) Probably the bests I've ever heard since Majora's mask.
But, like all excellent games, it is tooooo short.

Encountered my first big hurdle last night:

[bgcolor=#000000]In the Spirit Temple, having to find the glyph that leads to the Ocean land, the floor was completely pitch black making navigation really difficult and I was essentially stuck on this one floor having no idea where to go other than this vague clue on blowing out a certain torch. Well I blew out every torch in the place and nothing happened which led to me consulting GameFAQ's, ashamedly, for the answer. Turns out there's one torch on the far NE corner of the floor which if blown out reveals a bomb crack in the wall, which leads to the final spirit piece which you can then use Zelda to inhabit a phantom and things just click from there.[/bgcolor]

So that was annoying. I keep going back and forth on the tracks trying to collect the rabbits XD

Awesome! :w00t: There's someone out there just as weird as me, yay! :P XD

I thought the treasure items you collect were there purely so you could swap them with other DS players which just killed any enthusiasm I had to collect them. But now I see Linebeck wants them either to be sold off or used to build train parts wihch is really neat. Not that I knew you had to keep the treasure parts at first as I sold them all off for like 7000 rupees :( But I saved it just before I sold them off so I quit and reloaded it and I have all my treasures again. So going to build that Dragon front carriage.

I'm stuck in the Spirit Temple (13F and up) trying to get the glyph that leads to the final land , which from the looks of it, is the desert world. It's the 15F, where there's two doors blocking you way to the next floor, one with a key and one that needs a switch. If I remember I can get the key ok, just can't figure out where the switch is. I guess it's to the left of the room as I got the key on the right, but there's a huge gap that blocks access to it which can't be jumped and nowhere to swing from.

Bloody phantom eyes do my head in too. :banghead:

Haven't played much of Spirit Tracks lately but I plan to get back into it soon. Last time I left it, I constructed a random set of carriages for my train into some ungodly combination so the front of my carriage looks like a cake but I use an industrial like cannon and my cargo carriage levitates  Couldn't be bothered searching for missing demon bones though! Couldn't find them anywhere.

There's a really interesting read I found. Basically, this guy found a cartridge of Majora's Mask from this creepy seller and as it turns out, the cartridge is haunted. Read the whole thing, with Youtube videos here (http://inuscreepystuff.blogspot.com/2010/09/majora.html)

It's definately a fake, but it's written well, and the videos are really creepy :o Majora's Mask is pretty dark huh?

I heard if you want to use the crossbow then you need to eject the disc and put in a copy of Link's Crossbow Training. With the Wii Zapper, obviously. You'll need to put the disc of Skyward Sword back in when you're finished. Also you need 4 heart rate monitors at all times. :P
Title: Re: The Zelda Thread

I was gonna go for the wiimote bundle, but correct me if I'm wrong, those wiimotes are AA battery powered. Don't wanna throw money away on batteries when I own recharable wiimotes.

Looks like I gotta buy motionplus separately then.
Title: Re: The Zelda Thread
Post by: pikapikapika on November 21, 2011, 03:27:10 AM
if it's rechargable battery packs mode, they will fit inside the new gold wiimote and you can recharge them like your old ones, it's still the same size as the older models, it just has the motionplus gyro inside of it.

Also they do give you 2 free batteries XD

^^It's the back cover of my wiiimotes that enables the charging, and not the actual batteries. Though, the batteries do have some sort of clip on them that goes through the back and clicks with the charger's base.

Holy crap! In a bombshell announcement, an HD remake of Wind Waker is out for Wii U this autumn and an all new Zelda game will come out for the Wii U in the furture, promising to change up the staples that the series has held onto e.g. a series of dungeons presented in a particular order and, most excitingly, that the series is traditionally played alone. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-01-23-nintendo-announces-zelda-wind-waker-re-make-out-this-year)

An open world, multiplayer Zelda? Sounds very interesting indeed.

A Wind Waker speedrun would be interesting to see. Does that game even have glitches to exploit?

I was joking about a Wind Waker speedrun, but apparently it exists!  XD

You guys want a good laugh? Then read about why Zelda is classist, sexist and racist[/b]. I mean the damsel in distress trope has some merit, (that is if you choose to really focus on Zelda being in need of rescue and ignore the fact that Zelda, Ruto, Saria, Impa and Nabooru both wield great power and are in positions of power by being the chosen Sages which helps conquer over evil), but then it goes on about Lon Lon Ranch being exploitative and the article just really falls apart. Also, Zelda was targeted by the bad guy because she held one third of the power that Ganondorf desired. So she's not targeted because she is female, but because she has power. Giving a female power is anything but sexist.

Stupid article. (http://www.salon.com/2013/10/05/the_legend_of_zelda_is_classist_sexist_and_racist/)

Bought 3 Zelda games on sale on the Nintendo eShop recently: The Legend of Zelda, The Adventure of Link, and Link's Awakening. Then decided to look into the definitive Zelda timeline since I was a bit comfused in how all the games are connected:

Timeline: The Legend of Zelda - Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgzPeVe5P0Q#ws)

Timeline: The Legend of Zelda - Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxXuOpk2f54#ws)

Timeline: The Legend of Zelda - Part 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmINMVQNCw8#ws)

So where does the newest game, A Link Between Worlds fit in? Apparently after A Link to the Past but before The Legend of Zelda.

The possibility of open-world exploration in a Zelda game is the best news I could've gotten today. Also, the game looks GORGEOUS and seems to have borrowed from a few styles of previous games. I'm also super excited about the weaponry in the game like... is that magitek!?

'No' at Link's face.

Edit: The speculation is that the character could be  female. I like that face now.
Title: Re: The Zelda Thread

^ Put that speculation to bed, as the director confirmed it is male Link. I don't mind the design. Link has always been a male character to me but he's also pretty androgynous. He's also a reincarnated character that pops up in multiple timelines and different ages, with the lore stating that a 'hero' will save Hyrule, so I would have welcomed it the gender was swapped after all. The way it is here, the character design, while confirmed as male Link, looks more gender-ambiguous than ever. Link will be able to be seen as anything according to one's subjective perception.

Though I did also like the idea for a while there of it being a second playable character, possibly Zelda, for co-op gameplay. An open world game isn't necessarily the only way to shake up Zelda conventions.
