Thai release date for ‘Ong Bak 3′Film site 24Framespersecond has confirmed with Sahamongkol Film that Tony Jaa’s period martial arts actioner ONG BAK 3 is heading to Thai theaters on April 29. The film sees Jaa return as a feudal-era nobleman’s son in Thailand driven by revenge to become a martial arts dynamo who narrowly escapes death following a massive struggle with the forces of the treacherous Lord Rajasena. He recovers to reclaim his fighting prowess in time to face his greatest enemies, the Golden-Armored King’s Guard (Supakorn “Tok” Kijusuwan), the mysterious killers in black and Bhuti Sangkha (Dan Chupong). It’s great to see that ONG BAK 3 is on track for release but I can’t help feeling that some of the momentum and excitement that surrounded Tony Jaa’s first two films has disappeared with these ONG BAK sequels.Although it had plenty of martial arts action, ONG BAK 2 proved to be a disappointment for some fans with the script most often cited as the main flaw. A misleading title has thrown others off who may have been anticipating another contemporary actioner and continuation of the original, unrelated characters. It also took far too long for ONG BAK 2 to be released in the U.S. It got an overpriced limited VOD pre-release late last year and is only now coming to Blu-ray and DVD on February 2, 2010 over a year after the first pirated, English-subtitled DVD rip started circulating online. The piracy won’t stop but it will help if ONG BAK 3 delivers more of what fans want and it gets distributed overseas sooner to better capitalize on peak interest. Tony Jaa is still one of the best MA stars in the business right now. He just needs better handling.
How is the general acceptance?
