last move i watched was "Jet Li's (Fearless)". It's supposed to be his last movie, which is too bad because the movie was tight as hell. If you haven't seen it, and you like kung-fu movies; i recommend this movie. You can't go wrong with Jet Li + its his last film, so you might as well get off you a$$ and check it out. DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!

Little Miss Sunshine
It was still good! :D
Bamboozled. One of my favorite movies! It gets a little annoying when people missed the point and say that movie sucked because it had blackface in it. Mooney was great, but I couldn't get over MC Search. I've heard that a movie called "Dancing in September" is similar, but isn't "so over the top."
I saw some mirrors in what I'm trying to create. who is to judge? Who is to say what is right and what is wrong?
But damn whatta an ending. Love the guest appearances by Paul Mooney and Mos Def.
Richard returns home from military service to a small town in the Midlands. He has one thing on his mind: revenge. Payback for the local bullies who did some very bad things to his brother. At first his campaign employs guerrilla tactics, designed to frighten the men and put them ill at ease. But then he steps up his operation, and one by one these local tough guys are picked off by the terrifying angel of vengeance that Richard has become.
Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V for Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked man (Weaving) known only as "V." Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he urges his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V's mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself -- and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plan to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption.
Pan's Labyrinth - This movie was so sad! A great movie, but so damn sad. Knowing the history made it even tragic.
The Departed

The Oscar fever got me :)
Stranger than fiction - less comedy side of will farrell.
Fracture - 7/10
Movie itself was pretty lame but Anthony Hopkins was absolutely adorable

This. Damn good movie.

2nd time watching it.
Children Of Men - 10/10
Hardly ever been so involved in a movie. Everything about it is top quality, story, acting, action, twists, suspense, remorse, and best of all, almost convincingly realistic. The subject matter is rather poignant and mature, whilst being powerful and with hopes of better days.

I just had to watch this movie after seeing your glowing little review.
And I completely agree with it. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Some of the camera runs in this movie are just pure genius. Incredibly immersive. Kept me on the edge of my seat for the majority of the movie, which is a feat. Merciless, and yes, very realistic.
Best film I've seen in a long time.
I just saw "Cloverfield" and wow that movie was pretty intense kind of like a thrill ride. One of the better monster movies out there. If you get motion sickness easily, be warned though as there are quite a few shaky scenes. Some people even had to leave because they got sick or dizzy. Highly recommended for the visceral experience.
Azumi. Ueto Aya :wub:I saw Azumi the other day! And the last movie I watched was Azumi II: Death or Love
I went to see Enchanted yesterday, and it was one of the most ridiculously fabulous movies I've ever seen!! :Di'm gonna have to agree. i didnt expect that much out of it but it was actually good.
The Fly - 9/10Wow... Classic oldie... I haven't been able to finish that movie. The one time I started watch it, I was 6 or 7 years old, and during his first transformation (I don't know if there's more than one), when his fingernails start coming off, I started crying and freaking out, and haven't been able to bring myself to watch it since then... XD
Funny how with all the graphical possibilities available today, 80's monster movie make-up is much more effective at creating a terrifying monster.

The last movie I saw was Jumper... It wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be. Very disappointing.this movie looks like it could be good, but i REALLY don't like the guys who plays the main character. his "acting" on star wars was HORRIBLE!
:(
^ I dunno seems a bit nonsensical to me. I heard there were pyramids included in the film, but they weren't even in existence then.
The Curse Of The Golden Flower - 6/10
Rather light on the martial arts and spectacle (although the final battle is epic) and there was something about the whole thing which didn't really click with me. More soap opera than Shakespeare. Although the acting was top-notch.
Maybe the best movie I’ve seen in 25 years is Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto. Brilliant. I said to my wife, ‘is this as good or better than Apocalypse Now?’ She said, ‘it’s more complete.’
Doomsday
It was...... interesting. It was like 28 Days Later, Mad Max, Lord of the Rings, Fast and the Furious, Mission Impossible and Aliens all in one. There was even dancing in it. A lot of WTF moments... Dancing Fat guys, then eating humans, then all of a sudden, a medival pit fight, to a bentley car chase
Just finished seeing IRON MAN!
Iron Man.
Didn't really get into the last couple of minutes, but RDJ made the whole thing epic. And I just found out I missed 15 seconds of Nick Fury after the credit roll.
Fuck.
^ No wonder you have a headache, those scenes at the end do that to me also.
AWESOME!! ♥ I, quite literally, loved every second of it. From the acting and added comedy, to the effects, to the dialogue. Tony Stark is my other Marvel love, for real. I vaguely remember watching the old school Iron Man cartoons as a kid (amongst the other 'hero' shows). Where Spidey is a smart-ass that I love, Stark is a bad-ass. Seriously, if you haven't watched it yet, do so. Now. The ending of the movie pwned by the way, it was so damn good. I think I'm still feeling aftershocks of the fangirling session while watching, haha. It's also gotten superb reviews so far (94% approval at RottenTomatoes), more reason to watch watch watch!
Futurama: The Beast With A Billion Backs
This is a fun one to watch, plenty of laughs to had, which is expected with Futurama.
Elizabethtown
Seemed like Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom had a good chemistry and just over all good.

OMFG THIS MOVIE IS FUCKEN AWESOME! EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH IT!

The Terminator
Terminator 2 Judgment Day
Terminator 3 Rise Of The Machines
Smokey And The Bandit
Just came back from watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars.... I was dissapointed :(
Choppy animation... unexciting battles... messy plot... so many flaws! only some parts of the movie is actually enjoyable... but otherwise it's a fail. :(
Hey Sab, I saw that Jun movie too! It was seriously messed up! It's based on a manga or anime and is 100% wrong.

I can honestly say it is top 3 out of the worst movies I've seen EVER. It damn near ruined my Christmas, it's that horrible.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Will Be in Stallone's The Expendables!http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/02/17/arnold-schwarzenegger-will-be-in-stallones-the-expendables/
It looks like this will be the year Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his Hollywood comeback! Well, not exactly, but besides his rumored CGI appearance in Terminator Salvation, AICN has just learned that Arnold will be appearing in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. They have a pretty trustworthy source - Stallone himself - so I don't we have to be worried that this is a rumor. Their source let them know that they've convinced Arnold to show up as himself, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, because Sly's character Barney Ross and Arnold "have some history back when the Gov was shooting Conan the Barbarian."
This casting news is almost ironic because every time I've written about The Expendables previously, I've joked that the cast would be perfect if Arnold or Jean Claude Van Damme joined. It was a joke because, as we know, Arnold retired from acting when he became the Governor. And JCVD, well, we heard about him. So now when it turns out that Stallone has convinced Arnold to appear, not only is that pretty damn impressive, but it's almost like a dream come true. Though we sadly won't see him doing any fighting. Word is Arnold will only be shooting for one day. Ben Kingsley has also been replaced by Eric Roberts.
They were also told that Stallone is tweaking the script in order to "nail the right tonal balance of humor, action and emotional reality." Which is good news considering the backlash from Van Damme's quotes last week. I've still got high hopes that this is going to be a frickin' badass action movie in the end!
Arnold Talks About His Terminator and Expendables Cameoshttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/03/11/arnold-talks-about-his-terminator-and-expendables-cameos/
I've said before that this may finally be the year that we see Arnold Schwarzenegger return to the big screen, if only just briefly, but it looks like it will happen. Arnold appeared at the 2009 Arnold Classic and TheArnoldFans.com was there to ask him about appearing in both McG's Terminator Salvation and Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. He gave a lengthy political answer to the question, but in brief, he said that he will shoot a very small cameo in Expendables and he might show up in Terminator, but he doesn't want McG to sell the movie based entirely on his appearance. I don't think that'll be a problem!
You can read the full transcript on their site, but I've pulled the most important parts to read below.
"As I said to the director when they began that I wish them the best of luck, that I'm happy that they move forward with the franchise, I am very happy with where I am with my profession as the governor and they should try to find a way of doing a story that does not include me at all, not even one single shot in it. I don't believe in that. To kind of have them go out and promote the movie and say you know Arnold is in the movie and everyone thinks that I'm the Terminator and in fact you only see one second of me in there and so I don't think that's the right thing to do. And you know that's the danger of that, and that's why I feel reluctant to be part of the movie in the first place. So it doesn't get promoted that way."
"Naturally when [Sly] asked me if I would do a cameo, which will just be something quick, like I walk out of a hotel or out of a office building and he will walk up and we will bump into each other and there will be some mumbling and then we will walk off. So it will be something very simple, that will be again, just a cameo, so that's what we're going to do. I promised him I'd do that and I'm looking forward to that."
It obviously sounds like he'll show up in The Expendables more than Terminator Salvation, though I don't think McG will give up until he sneaks Arnold in there somehow. As McG has hinted at previously, we may see a younger, 1984-like Arnold in his movie, which could be a completely CGI creation, without his approval, although we'll have to wait until May to see that. Whatever happens, I'm excited to see Arnold appearing in some movies again. I miss the guy, he's been away from Hollywood for too long, and although I know he's the Governator int the state I now live in, he needs some screen time, too!
Finally saw RELIGULOUS (http://www.lionsgate.com/religulous/), Bill Maher's take on religion all over the planet. NOT a film for the easily offended.
Of COURSE I loved it. Classic Maher and laugh-out-loud funny.
Now They've Crossed The Line - A MacGyver Movie?!http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/03/15/now-theyve-crossed-the-line-a-macgyver-movie/
It's a sad day for Hollywood. They've finally crossed that line that no one wanted them to ever cross. New Line has greenlit a MacGyver
feature film. Legendary producer Dino De Laurentiis and his daughter Raffaella are producing, along with series creator Lee Zlotoff. No word on whether the original MacGyver, Richard Dean Anderson, will be involved, but our guess is that he's not going to have anything to do with this. New Line hasn't hired a writer yet either, but they hope to find a script "that can acknowledge how the concept has staked a place into pop culture yet still makes for a serious and fun adventure movie."
As a quick refresher, MacGyver was an adventure TV series that first debuted in 1985 on ABC and eventually got two spin-off made-for-TV movies both in 1994. Richard Dean Anderson starred as an incredibly resourceful secret agent for the Phoenix Foundation who frequently would escape from dangerous situations with ingenious and lightning-quick engineering trickery (refer to this MythBusters episode). If this news itself wasn't painful enough, just listen to this pitiful pun from New Line's Richard Brener. "We think we're a stick of chewing gum, a paper clip and an A-list writer away from a global franchise."
James Cameron's Avatar is the most expensive movie ever made, according to Time.
The science-fiction blockbuster, filmed in 3-D with motion capture technology, reportedly carries a production budget of more than $300 million.
Cameron, whose last film Titanic broke budget records in Hollywood, revealed that "every film I'm planning to do will be in 3-D".
Making a movie in 3-D reportedly adds 15% to a film's production cost, but Cameron has insisted that the extra investment is worthwhile. "It is so close to a real experience that it actually triggers memory creation in a way that 2-D viewing doesn't," he said.
Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End ($300 million) and Spider-Man 3 ($258 million) were previously the most expensive movies ever made.
Avatar stars Sam Worthington as a paraplegic war veteran who is taken to the distant planet Pandora. It is released in cinemas on December 18.

Very informational. Kinda complex, but not much. :P
The ending sequence might offend a few, though.
Trio in talks for 'Inception'http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118002026.html?categoryid=13&cs=1&nid=2564 (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118002026.html?categoryid=13&cs=1&nid=2564)
Cotillard, Page, Murphy look to join DiCaprio
Warner Bros. is in talks with Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy and Ellen Page to join the cast of "Inception," which Christopher Nolan wrote and will direct as his next film. Leonardo DiCaprio has already been set to star. WB bought the spec preemptively before other studios got a crack at the material, which kept Warner in business with the filmmaker after smash hit "The Dark Knight" (Daily Variety, Feb. 12).
Production begins this summer for 2010 release. The subject matter has been kept under tight wraps, with the studio describing the film as a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind. Nolan will produce with Emma Thomas.
The film is Nolan's first with Cotillard and Page, but he is reteaming with Murphy, who played the villain Scarecrow in "Batman Begins," with a cameo in "The Dark Knight." Murphy just completed "Peacock" and "Perrier's Bounty." Cotillard will next be seen in the Michael Mann-directed "Public Enemies" and just completed the Rob Marshall-helmed musical "Nine." Page just teamed with Murphy in "Peacock" and starred in the Drew Barrymore-directed "Whip It!"
Sony Confirms Men in Black 3 and Ghostbusters 3http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/01/showest-sony-confirms-men-in-black-3-and-ghostbusters-3/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/01/showest-sony-confirms-men-in-black-3-and-ghostbusters-3/)
Over the last year or so, we've heard rumblings on numerous exciting projects in works within Sony. Back in September we reported that another Men in Black was in development, although it was too early on for any details, and it wasn't official. Additionally, we've written countless times about the Ghostbusters reboot that is already in the works, with Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky writing. During Sony's presentation today at ShoWest, Sony president of worldwide distribution, Rory Bruer, mentioned that not only is Spider-Man 4 in the works for 2011, but so are a new Men in Black and a new Ghostbusters.
Bruer mentioned both of these projects somewhat in passing, right after talking about their exciting upcoming summer slate and mentioning that they had some other great movies in the works. He didn't even mention anything but the names, Men in Black and Ghostbusters, but that's enough to confirm that these are official. While we knew that Ghostbusters would be happening, given they already hired writers, the Men in Black rumor was essentially only a rumor until now. Although most people don't want to see either, I'm honestly excited for another Ghostbusters, for many reasons, but not necessarily for Men in Black.
Jolie 'resumes talks for Sin City 2'
Angelina Jolie has resumed talks to join the cast of Robert Rodriguez's sequel to Sin City, reports Moviehole.
According to an unnamed producer, the actress is being courted to play Ava Lord, the lead character in Frank Miller's 1994 graphic novel A Dame To Kill For. Clive Owen has been loosely tipped to reprise his role of Dwight McCarthy, Ava's former lover.
Jolie was first linked to the role in 2006, and later admitted that she was "curious" about the possibility of appearing in the big screen adaptation.
Earlier this year, Miller confirmed that he had penned the script for Sin City 2 and that production was slated to begin later this month.
Frank Marshall Says Bourne 4 Will Hit in Summer of 2011http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/12/frank-marshall-says-bourne-4-will-hit-in-summer-2011/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/12/frank-marshall-says-bourne-4-will-hit-in-summer-2011/)
So it looks like Twitter really is becoming a good resource for updates. Producer Frank Marshall wrote a few updates on his Twitter (twitter.com/LeDoctor) recently related to Bourne 4, the in-development fourth sequel in the Jason Bourne series. "Bourne 4 is in the works for Summer 2011," Marshall wrote. He later added in another update that "George Nolfi is the writer of Bourne 4, [and he] should have a draft by June," mentioning that, "it really takes long to get these scripts right!" Of course! And especially on something like this, I'm more than happy that Marshall is taking as much time as he needs and not rushing into it.
Our last update on Bourne 4 hit in October, when it was officially confirmed that George Nolfi (of Ocean's Twelve, The Sentinel, The Bourne Ultimatum) was writing the script and that Paul Greengrass was back on board to direct. Before that, our last headline stated "Fourth Jason Bourne Film on Track for 2010", but obviously it will now be 2011, which means Nolfi will finish up this script soon and they'll shoot next year. Marshall said previously they'll probably take Bourne "down south" to South America in this fourth film, but story details aren't fully finalized, and with re-writes still occurring, who knows where they'll end up?
If you're also on Twitter, I'd suggest you follow Frank Marshall for more updates. And while you're at it, follow us as well at twitter.com/firstshowing. We'll let you know when we hear any more on Bourne 4!
Live-Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Coming in 2011!http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/22/live-action-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-coming-in-2011/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/22/live-action-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-coming-in-2011/)
In honor of tomorrow, April 23rd, being the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, The Mirage Group (which currently owns the property) has announced (via Variety) that they are officially making another new live-action TMNT movie. We've ran rumors about this previously, but this is the first time we've heard any official confirmation. Legendary Pictures former chief marketing officer Scott Mednick is producing the project alongside Galen Walker, who produced the 2007 animated TMNT movie. The project will be a reboot focusing on the origins of the turtles, and is currently slated for 2011.
One of the original creators, Peter Laird, said the movie will remain true to the spirit of the original comic books. "The original comics created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman are some of the best source material one could hope for," said Mednick, who also executive produced the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are. While we at one time reported that this might be a CGI hybrid movie, Variety says that they'll use "face replacement technology," which will allow the turtles to be much more expressive. It sounds like they definitely won't be dusting off the old rubber suits, which is a bit unfortunate for fans like myself.
Other festivities occurring tomorrow in New York City in celebration of their 25th anniversary include turning the entire Empire State Building green for the day, full-scale recreations of various set pieces from the original movie, and a free outdoor Drive-In screening of the original 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie as part of the Tribeca Film Festival (more info here). There's not much other news that has been revealed regarding the project, like what studio will develop it, who is working on a screenplay, or any other information. However, you can be sure we'll let you know the moment we know more about it!
TMNT Creator Peter Laird Says They'll Use Full Turtle Suitshttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/23/tmnt-creator-peter-laird-says-theyll-use-full-turtle-suits/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/23/tmnt-creator-peter-laird-says-theyll-use-full-turtle-suits/)
Last night it was officially announced by The Mirage Group that another new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action movie was in development for 2011. The details they revealed at time were that it would be a reboot focusing on their origins and that it might use some "face replacement technology." Being a fan of the original rubber suit live-action movies, and a believer that nothing else can compare to how great those suits looked, I'm worried that we're going to see an Alvin and the Chipmunks-like half-CGI TMNT movie this time, which I certainly do not want. However, TMNT co-creator Peter Laird says otherwise.
Over on his official blog, Laird wrote up an entry about the live-action news and at the end, commented on the hybrid aspect of it. The word "hybrid" was previously thrown around in an article we wrote last year.
"So here we go — another live action film! As you may recall from some of my previous comments, our initial discussions regarding the next film had to do with what we were calling a 'hybrid' — live action with realistic Turtles rendered in CGI and blended in. This new idea — which, frankly, I am VERY pumped about — will have actors and stunt performers in full Turtle suits for filming in live action. As of right now, there is talk of using CGI to do 'face replacement' for the suits so that we can get those great, expressive faces possible with CGI."
What we can't forget about the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was that it was actually an independent film, with a budget of only $13.5 million. Those costumes they came up with were a result of what worked well and what was cheap, not what would be the easiest way to attract kids to theaters. Thankfully it all worked out in the end and the suits kicked ass, but I'm worried that this may be a big Hollywood production and they'll lose that creative edge that forced them to make a great movie the first time around. Hopefully with Peter Laird working on this, he won't let them do anything too cheesy.
Awwwwww snap! TMNT! MOAR LEONARDO!Word! Leo's the most awesome turtle ever :yep:
I was pretty entertained by "Taken" with Liam Neeson, but afterwards I started to dwell on certain nitpicks...Taken is mad hardcore, Liam Neeson was murking cats like it was nothing!

Three More Action Projects Lined Up for Bruce Willishttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/29/three-more-action-projects-lined-up-for-bruce-willis/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/29/three-more-action-projects-lined-up-for-bruce-willis/)
Even at 54, he's still kicking ass. That's essentially the message Borys Kit wants to get across in his most recent article. In it, he talks about three new action projects that Bruce Willis has lined-up. The first is a thriller called Inventory that is in development at NuImage/Millenium, the second is a CIA story called Red at Summit Entertainment, and the third is the mob biopic Scarpa at Morgan Creek that Antoine Fuqua will direct. We already know that Willis stars in the sci-fi flick Surrogates due out this September. And we're also familiar with the Kevin Smith comedy A Couple of Dick that Willis will probably star in next.
In Inventory, Willis, who is still in negotiations for the role, would play a detective on the trail of a murderer. How's that for a very vague synopsis? No writer or director is attached yet, as far as we know, although there's probably a screenplay for this written by someone out there. Any names?
In Red, Willis would portray a former black-ops agent who has gone into retirement but is forced back into action when a high-tech assassin threatens him and his girlfriend. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing, and Erich and Jon Hoeber (of Whiteout previously) are writing the screenplay, which is based on the WildStorm comic series. Early word is that Richard Donner might direct.
In Scarpa, Willis would play the title character Gregory Scarpa Sr., an FBI informant who worked deeply undercover in New York’s Columbo mob family. Earlier in the year, Fuqua said that they were talking to Sean Penn for the lead, but that was before he won the Oscar. Not sure who is writing this either?
Although all of these roles could possibly come together, it's likely that two of them will fall through in the end. Summit is making offers to Willis for Red, although he hasn't agreed on any just yet. And it's also unlikely that Willis will join Scarpa, although it's interesting to see this as a consideration to begin with. It might mean that Fuqua didn't get Penn either. I still love Bruce Willis as much as I always have, however I like seeing him in more of the odd non-action roles (like Assassination of a High School President or What Just Happened). Whatever he ends up starring next, I'm sure I'll be looking forward to it.
COWABUNGA, DUDES! :twothumbs^ Funny. I just started catching up watching some old movies and TMNT(2007) was one of 'em.
Ken Watanabe to Play the Villain in Chris Nolan's Inceptionhttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/05/04/ken-watanabe-to-play-the-villain-in-chris-nolans-inception/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/05/04/ken-watanabe-to-play-the-villain-in-chris-nolans-inception/)
And I thought the cast for Christopher Nolan's Inception couldn't get any better? Two more phenomenal actors who have joined the cast as announced via Hollywood Reporter tonight. Ken Watanabe will play the villain, a man who is blackmailing the lead character, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, a CEO of a mysterious company. Up-and-comer Tom Hardy has also joined the cast as "a member of DiCaprio's team." Also starring in Nolan's "contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind" are Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard. That's one hell of a cast, eh?
Ken Watanabe is actually one of my all-time favorite actors. I absolutely love the guy and he's never let me down in any role he's ever played. He appeared in Nolan's Batman Begins as the "fake" Ra's Al Ghul in the beginning and also did an exceptional job as Katsumoto in The Last Samurai and as General Kuribayashi in Letters from Iwo Jima. His addition to this cast has made a project that I'm already very excited for even more highly anticipated in my book. Now only if we knew what the heck this was about, but I'm thinking at this point, I'd rather just be completely surprised next summer. We'll keep you updated on all the latest!
edit: No Country for old men
I didn't quite get the ending..
yeah, it was pretty cryptic.
yeah, it was pretty cryptic.
Maybe I'm remembering it wrong but I didn't think it was cryptic at all, really straightforward.

Wait just a minute! On the eve of the world premiere of Tarantino's newest film, which took years to pull together, a rumor hits about another never-heard-of project? Of all the places for this to come from, it's Variety, where they say (without confirmation) that Sharon Stone is potentially involved in a new project called Weekend to be directed by Quentin Tarantino. In addition to Stone, it will also star Jessica Biel, Lucy Liu, Dennis Hopper and Michael Madsen and it will film in Serbia. Has anyone ever heard about this before? Does Tarantino really have a new project lined up? Or is this just an early rumor gone too far?
Adding more tidbits into the mix, SlashFilm uncovered this apparent update from Production Weekly.
"Michael Madsen & Bret Davidson were attached to direct together last year, Davidson wrote the script. Max, a retired war hero, sets to enjoy a weekend at his cabin. While riding his motorcycle on the way up he stops to give a helpful hand to a beautiful woman, Rita, whose car has broken down on the side of the road. He helps her to the nearest repair shop without knowing Rita’s current involvement with the most powerful influence in Las Vegas. Unbeknownst to him Max is soon to enter into the biggest battle for his life."
That doesn't sound like a bad concept, I like it, but uh, I just don't think Tarantino has already lined up his next gig. I mean, tomorrow he's presenting his WWII masterpiece (or so we hope) to hordes of hungry critics here in Cannes. As much as I'd love to see him work with Dennis Hopper and Michael Madsen (again), it probably won't happen. But of course, we are expecting plenty of Tarantino updates over the next few days, and hopefully a confirmation on this project or news on another one. I'm still a full-time supporter of Quentin Tarantino and believer that he's still going strong, so let's bring on more madness, maestro!
News: 'Buffy' in for feature relaunch
A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen.
"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.
While Whedon is the person most associated with "Buffy," Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from then-unknown Whedon. She developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox.
Kuzui later teamed with Gail Berman, then president of Sandollar Television, bringing back Whedon to make the TV series, which was produced by Fox TV and launched on the WB in 1997. Kuzui and Sandollar received executive producer credits on "Buffy" and its spinoff, "Angel."
The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, putting the parties in a similar situation faced by Paramount, J.J. Abrams and his crew when relaunching "Star Trek."
One of the underlying ideas of "Buffy" allows Vertigo and Kuzui to do just that: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. The goal would be to make a darker, event-sized movie that would, of course, have franchise potential.
The parties are meeting with writers and hearing takes, and later will look for a home for the project. The producers do not rule out Whedon's involvement but have not yet reached out to him.Speaking from Tokyo, Fran Kuzui said the company is constantly approached not only about sequels but theater, video games and foreign remakes for "Buffy." When Vertigo's Lee contacted them, they were intrigued.
"It was Roy's interest in taking Buffy into a new place that grabbed us," she said, noting that original exec producer Sandy Gallin also was consulted. "It was based on our respect for what he does, and his particular sensitivity to Asian filmmakers, that we wanted to work with him."
Kuzui, who is prepping do direct a movie in Japan in the fall, added: "Everything has its moment. Every movie takes on a life at some point, and this seems like the moment to do this."
Dan Aykroyd says 'Ghostbusters 3' may start filming in winter
I just visited with Dan Aykroyd over at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip for an interview for an upcoming feature in the Los Angeles Times (you'll be able to find it here on the Hero Complex as well). We talked about a wide range of topics, but I didn't want to wait on this update about the third "Ghostbusters" film, which is moving forward after so many years.
Aykroyd said Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists -- Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. Murray's presence was the pivot point in making a third film happen. He holds a one-fifth controlling interest in the property rights and has been seen as the most reluctant to return to the paranormal comedy. Aykroyd said that is true but that it's more nuanced than the public portrayal of the situation.
"I don't put not making the third movie on Billy. We can't do that. I've been very busy. Harold's been busy, Ivan's been busy. And a third script really didn't coalesce properly. And Billy, you can't blame an artist for not wanting to do the same thing again. He did two of them, for God's sake. Although I'm the biggest cheerleader as the originator of the concept but I've never begrudged Billy not doing a third movie. I never said he held it up or that he refused. Hey, listen, he's an artist. You can't force somebody into it. I'm sorry he never read my third draft because I thought it was pretty good but, look, now we're at a point that there's a story that he can accept and that's going to work, and I think we're going to be in production fairly soon. We could be in production by winter."
The script is by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the writing team behind the upcoming Jack Black/Michael Cera movie "Year One" (directed by Ramis), and Aykroyd is enthused about its premise of a new generation of Ghostbusters taking over the duties of the aging team. Aykroyd said he wishes Ivan Reitman would return to direct the third film in the series but that he's "too busy as a mega-producer" to take it on; his second choice is Ramis, who, of course, co-wrote the first two "Ghostbusters" films with Aykroyd and has numerous directing credits, most notably "Groundhog Day" and "Analyze This." "He has a lot of things going on, but it would be wonderful to see him do it."
Aykroyd says he believes the movie will move forward but that he has also learned that "at any second everything could blow up." The details of story are still in play, but Aykroyd said he's hoping for a five-member "new generation" team with several female members. "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."
Who does Aykroyd think would be good in the jumpsuits? Aykroyd mentioned two names, Alyssa Milano (who is a voice in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" video game) and Eliza Dushku. "I think they're amazing," he said. "And I'm excited about the whole idea of getting this done."
John Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse on the 1980’s-1990’s television sitcom Full House, says he’s developing a possible concept for a big screen Full House movie. Stamos told the New York Daily News that he’s “working on a movie idea, but it wouldn’t be us playing us.”
Warner Bros' Live-Action Akira Movie is Dead as a Doornail!http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/06/14/warner-bros-live-action-akira-movie-is-dead-as-a-doornail/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/06/14/warner-bros-live-action-akira-movie-is-dead-as-a-doornail/)
Good news or bad? That's up to you. It was only a year ago when it was officially announced that Warner Brothers and Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way were developing a live-action version of the anime Akira with first-time Irish director Ruairi Robinson. So now its been 15 months and we haven't heard much - but that's because its been struggling internally at the studio. Bloody Disgusting now confirms via "two separate sources" that the project is "dead as a doornail." Robinson is apparently also off of the project. When it was announced last year, the plan was to actually have shot and ready to debut in theaters this summer.
The studio fought for the rights in a bidding war in early 2008, as they had let go of them a few years earlier. The project was being spearheaded by Warner Bros. exec Greg Silverman, who previously brought 300 and Batman Begins to the studio. It was described as "Blade Runner meets City of God" which was more than enough to make me excited. Fans were in an uproar, however, because they were going to move the setting from Tokyo to what was being called "New Manhattan," a new metropolis that was rebuilt after being destroyed 31 years ago. I even heard that Zack Snyder was approached to direct (after 300) but declined.
Even being a fan of the original anime (which just got an awesome Blu-Ray re-release back in February), I was still looking forward to seeing this. Sure it would be a huge departure from that anime, but word is they were going to go all the way back to Katsuhiro Otomo's graphic novel anyway. Just imagining the kind of visuals and the incredible world that Otomo brought us back in 1988 converted to live-action would be amazing to see. I'd still love to see this get made one day, but it better be done right. If that means we have to wait another 10 years to see it done right, just like with Watchmen, then I'm fine waiting until then.
Shia LaBeouf Says Spielberg is 'Gearing Up' Indiana Jones 5http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/06/16/shia-labeouf-says-spielberg-is-gearing-up-indiana-jones-5/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/06/16/shia-labeouf-says-spielberg-is-gearing-up-indiana-jones-5/)
We all knew it was going to happen - Spielberg would make Indiana Jones 5 whether we wanted it or not. But we haven't heard much about it and I think a lot of people were hoping that they would've just given up by now. But that's not the case. In a recent interview with the BBC, Shia LaBeouf says, "Steven [Spielberg] just said that he cracked a story on it before I left and I think they're gearing that up." He doesn't say much else, except that there are "definitely no special effects in that movie," but it's enough of an update to remind us that this is indeed coming soon, whether you like it or not. Let's hope it's better than the last one.
Even if you enjoyed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I think we've all come to admit it was quite a let down, somewhat of a big mess with monkeys and nuclear fridges. But maybe it's the Temple of Doom of the new Indiana Jones generation - that is to say, it could be the worst of what's yet to come. I'm optimistic because I love Indiana Jones, I love Steven Spielberg, I love Harrison Ford, and yes, I like Shia LaBeouf, too. And as long as Steven kicks George Lucas out of the office, maybe this story, that Shia already said Steven specifically has cracked, could be a vast improvement over Crystal Skull. We can only hope!
Sly Stallone's The Expendables Could End Up Being PG-13?http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/06/19/sly-stallones-the-expendables-could-end-up-being-pg-13/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/06/19/sly-stallones-the-expendables-could-end-up-being-pg-13/)
We've already had at least one big battle this year about a movie's rating (as in, Terminator Salvation). I don't want to start another one, but this is an interesting discussion worth having, especially in relation to a movie I'm excited to see. A few websites were recently on the set of Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables (including AICN) and as part of the visit, they got to talk with producer Avi Lerner. Lerner, who gave UGO these quotes, not only talked about Rambo 5 and that it might eventually happen, but that The Expendables would be testing for both PG-13 and R ratings and the studio would then decide once the reports came in.
When asked if Rambo 5 would be as violent as the most recent Rambo from 2008, Lerner responded with a resounding "no!" He continues: "The story in Burma had to be tackled that way, with extreme and brutal violence so that it portrayed an important aspect of what that story is about. He also told us that they lost at least half the audience for that film with such a hard R, so neither The Expendables nor the Rambo sequel will be as brutal." Lionsgate wants this to be a huge hit and may stick with a PG-13 cut if it tests better (and can bring in a bigger audience). Of course, they'll probably go with the rating that pulls more money.
Based on what we do know - that this is a huge $80 million action movie starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Terry Crews, and Eric Roberts - do you want to see this rated R? Harry Knowles' report from the set includes a lot of mentions about how much practical effects and real explosions are being used and its shaping the way the movie is turning out in the end. With all that, the huge cast, and the story, I can tell you that I definitely do want this to be hard R.
Next Year's Oscars will Include 10 Best Picture Nominees!http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/06/24/next-years-oscars-will-include-10-best-picture-nominees/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/06/24/next-years-oscars-will-include-10-best-picture-nominees/)
This is huge news. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences announced today, that as of next year for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, for the first time in 67 years, they will choose ten Best Picture Nominees instead of just five. "Having 10 best picture nominees is going allow Academy voters to recognize and include some of the fantastic movies that often show up in the other Oscar categories but have been squeezed out of the race for the top prize," said Academy president Sid Ganis. This isn't the first time they've chosen ten nominees. Up through 1943, the Oscars included ten Best Picture nominees as well.
“After more than six decades, the Academy is returning to some of its earlier roots, when a wider field competed for the top award of the year," said Ganis. "The final outcome, of course, will be the same – one Best Picture winner – but the race to the finish line will feature 10, not just five, great movies from 2009." It's now being called 10 in 2010. Some are claiming that this decision was made under pressure from the studios, as it allows them to feature more great movies and include more advertising at the Oscars. Others are saying this will now water down the Oscars, since a nomination "used to be" a prestigious recognition.
I'd argue that this just makes things so much more interesting. One of the biggest complaints of last year was that The Dark Knight didn't get nominated. If only it had been one year later, it would've gotten that nomination. It also just makes the final outcome so much more of a mystery. I've felt like that out of the five nominees in the past few years, we can usually spot the winners. This time there will be so much of a bigger selection to choose from, that it could be even more thrilling to see who the Academy eventually picks. Whatever the case, this is exciting news, and should make for a very interesting Oscar race next year.
It's Official - Ryan Reynolds is Hal Jordan in Green Lantern!http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/10/its-official-ryan-reynolds-is-hal-jordan-in-green-lantern/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/10/its-official-ryan-reynolds-is-hal-jordan-in-green-lantern/)
Barely a few hours earlier, we reported that the list of actors in the running for the role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern movie had been narrowed down to three - Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake. Variety and THR have both confirmed that it's Ryan Reynolds who has ended up in the role, making him the only actor to play both a Marvel (as Deadpool) and DC Comics superhero. This ends the "intense months-long search" that was conducted by Warner Brothers, director Martin Campbell, and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti, as they couldn't come to an agreement on casting until today.
Reynolds is first set to star in the indie one-man thriller Buried before moving on to shoot Green Lantern down in Australia. The studio is still working out the budget, which was rumored to be at least $150 million, but production is expected to begin in January. My first choice would've been Chris Pine, but that didn't turn out. And fanboy favorite Nathan Fillion didn't make the cut it either. But oh well, because Reynolds is a perfectly fine second choice. Although this means he probably won't ever play The Flash anymore, I have a feeling we'll all be saying that Campbell made a damn good choice come next year.
Get Ready for a Hong Kong Phooey Hybrid CGI Moviehttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/12/get-ready-for-a-hong-kong-phooey-hybrid-cgi-movie/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/12/get-ready-for-a-hong-kong-phooey-hybrid-cgi-movie/)
Even more classic cartoons are headed to the big screen. Alcon Entertainment is developing a live-action / CGI hybrid version of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Hong Kong Phooey and has hired David Goodman to write the screenplay. Goodman was an executive producer on "Family Guy" and "Futurama" and has also written scripts for a Who Is Killing the Great Chefs? remake and Last Blood webcomic adaptation. Hong Kong Phooey is a cartoon series that first aired on ABC Saturday morning in 1974 and features a kung-fu fighting dog and his sidekick cat who fight crime. Not much else is known about this.
The trend of adapting classic cartoon into hybrid CGI movies seems to be slowly becoming more popular in Hollywood - to the point where I think CGI hybrids might be the future of children's movies. Most recently, we heard about a Smurfs movie, but in addition to that, we've heard of other hybrid projects including (but not limited to): Tom and Jerry, Yogi Bear, Roger Rabbit, and The Incredible Mr. Limpet. The thing that disappoints me the most is that, despite watching Hong Kong Phooey when I was a little kid, I don't really care about this at all nor will I probably even see it. I guess that's what happens when you grow up, right?
Crazy Rumor: Robert De Niro Cast in Danny Trejo's Machetehttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/16/crazy-casting-rumors-robert-de-niro-in-danny-trejos-machete/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/16/crazy-casting-rumors-robert-de-niro-in-danny-trejos-machete/)
So none of this is actually confirmed, but Bloody Disgusting has a report from a one of their regular trusted tipsters regarding some some big name actors that have (potentially) joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez's Machete. Danny Trejo is obviously returning to play the "madman bent on revenge" and I'm sure we can expect Cheech Marin to reprise his role as the priest as well. But they're saying that Michelle Rodriguez will play a character named Luz, Jonah Hill will play Julio, and, lastly, that Robert De Niro will play Senator McLaughlin. If this is true, then hell yes, I can't wait to see De Niro fighting Trejo mano-a-mano!
It was expected that Rodriguez and Trejo would pull some strings and get some good cameos, but De Niro, Hill, and Rodriguez? That's some crazy casting, that's for sure! I don't even care if they fit in the roles or not, that's obviously not what this is about in the least. The original trailer that this is "based on" was about a a Mexican day laborer who is double-crossed by a corrupt senator, which would be De Niro's role. Shooting is expected to start at the end of this month in Austin after Rodriguez returns home from Comic-Con. He is co-directing this with Ethan Maniquis. I'm sure we'll get some confirmation on this casting soon enough.
I saw Up last week and really enjoyed it. A few of the jokes were re-used a little too much for me, but not enough for me to get annoyed with it. I liked the short before the movie a lot more though.
More DC Comics Movies on the Horizon: Flash, Bizarro, Aquamanhttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/19/more-dc-comics-movies-on-the-horizon-flash-bizarro-aquaman/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/19/more-dc-comics-movies-on-the-horizon-flash-bizarro-aquaman/)
"A year after The Dark Knight became a worldwide phenomenon, there are more DC Comics adaptations in the works than at any other point since the company was acquired by Warner Bros. in 1969." Really? All that I keep hearing about are Marvel movies! Of course, we know about Green Lantern, The Losers, and Jonah Hex, but what else is there? Thankfully, the Hollywood Reporter has published a article looking at all of the DC Comics movies in the works and a bit of news about hiring on a few DC writers as consultants. It looks like DC might finally be setting up their game to compete with the ever-growing Marvel Studios.
Warner Bros has been changing the way they work with DC Comics over the last year. One part of that reorganization involved secretly hiring three of DC's biggest comic book writers - Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison and Marv Wolfman - to act as consultants and writers for its superhero movies in the works. Johns, known best for his work on the on-going Green Lantern comics, has been working on a new version of a Flash script, that was first written by Dan Mazeau. Johns will also produce, but no director has been hired yet for that. The projects Morrison and Wolfman have been working on haven't been revealed yet. Here is a better look at exactly how these writers are involved, as they're not just sitting on the sidelines.
The process involves one writer taking point, though the trio do collaborate on projects, reading one another's materials while hashing out a story that will be at once accessible to nonfans yet still adhere to each character's long history. The writers also work in tandem with producers, writers and the Warners execs overseeing the projects, showing them treatments and providing notes on scripts.
"The creative process is by and large a true partnership," DC's Gregory Noveck said. "They'll ask us a ton of questions, and we'll give a ton of answers. We will talk back and forth. We'll discuss writers and talent, but ultimately it's their decision." Other DC projects that they're developing include Aquaman and Adam Strange. Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way is developing the Aquaman movie, however, Warner Bros is still hearing pitches those two. There is also a Constantine sequel still in the works, a few Green Arrow projects like Super Max, and the Shazam movie that director Pete Segal has been attached to for a while.
There is also a Bizarro Superman movie being written by David Howard and Robert Gordon, the two who last brought us Galaxy Quest. Bizarro is a supervillain with similar powers to Superman. He resides in his own Bizarro World, where he's a superhero, not a villain. It sounds like they're going for the comedic version of Superman with Bizarro, but it's too early to tell. The other DC character most may not recognize is Adam Strange, a sci-fi jetpack superhero with similarities to John Carter of Mars. Adam is transported to a mysterious planet named Rann where he fights the aliens and falls in love with a local woman there. So, all you DC Comics fans, which of these sound good? Of course, who knows which one will see the light of day first, but I've got to say, I'm looking forward to Green Lantern the most at the moment. However, a new Flash written by Geoff Johns sounds pretty awesome, too.
Whoa - Sam Raimi to Direct the World of Warcraft Movie!http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/21/whoa-sam-raimi-to-direct-the-world-of-warcraft-movie/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/21/whoa-sam-raimi-to-direct-the-world-of-warcraft-movie/)
Our trustworthy friends over at Ain't It Cool News have landed a huge scoop today. They're reporting that the beloved Evil Dead and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi will be directing a movie based on World of Warcraft. This movie has been "in the works" ever since the game became the all-time greatest MMORPG, however we haven't heard anything about it in a while. In fact, our last update on this was late last year, in which Blizzard's president Mike Morhaime did at least say that "there are still plans for a World of Warcraft movie" but that the script was still being developed. Now it looks like things have finally fallen into place.
If you're still too shocked to believe this news, well, Variety just confirmed it as well, so it's not just a rumor. "At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story," Raimi said in a statement. The current plan is for Raimi to supervise the development of the World of Warcraft movie over the next few years and to shoot it after he finishes Spider-Man 4, which is scheduled for 2011. Legendary and Blizzard Entertainment are producing, with Warner Brothers distributing. In addition to hiring the director of Spider-Man, the studio has added The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven to the creative mix. This is going to be an epic movie!
My first impression is that this is great news, unquestionably so. They could have easily gotten any number of incapable directors, ranging from Uwe Boll to Stephen Sommers, but they chose to go with someone who, I believe, is truly a great filmmaker. Beyond that, he has a lot of experience working with "monsters", which there are plenty of in the World of Warcraft universe. Legendary's Thomas Tull previously said they were "looking for someone of Zak Snyder (300) or Chris Nolan (The Dark Knight) calibre." Looks like they found him! Head over to Wikipedia for more info on the World of Warcraft universe if you're not familiar with it.
Frank Miller's 300 Sequel is Nearly Finished, But What's Next?http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/23/frank-millers-300-sequel-nearly-finished-but-whats-next/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/23/frank-millers-300-sequel-nearly-finished-but-whats-next/)
We published an update from Zack Snyder on the in-development sequel to 300 nearly a month back. We know that Frank Miller has been writing a completely new sequel and the Risky Biz Blog now reports that he has "recently completed a draft" of that graphic novel. They also say that no screenwriter and no director has officially signed on yet, not even Zack Snyder. But of course, he's never really said that he's for sure returning, but it sounds like he wants to be involved in some way (since 300 was his so his big break). The success of 300 sparked a new sword-and-sandals trend in Hollywood, but will the sequel be too much?
They don't add much more into the mix beyond that it's presenting a tough challenge for Warner Bros. "While Miller is still tweaking his version, the ball will soon rest in the court of studio, financing entity and producers to determine how easily, if at all, they can translate the story to the big screen." As reported previously, this sequel would take place between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea (that was seen at the very end of 300). But if that's the case, then that means none of the original actors (like Gerard Butler) will be in this, give or take David Wenham, and that it'll be almost entirely disconnected.
Given the success of 300, a few other ancient epics have been put into active development, including Clash of the Titans, Tarsem Singh's War of Gods, and Jonathan Liebesman's Odysseus. But if we see all of those soon, then is there a chance we'll have a sword-and-sandal overload by the time this new 300 sequel hits?
Avatar Day is August 21st - 15 Minutes in Theaters for Free!http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/23/avatar-day-is-august-21st-15-minutes-in-theaters-for-free/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/23/avatar-day-is-august-21st-15-minutes-in-theaters-for-free/)
At the very highly anticipated presentation for James Cameron's Avatar this afternoon at Comic-Con, the master filmmaker himself announced an unprecedented marketing campaign unlike anything you've ever seen before - which is just like what you'll see on the screen that very day. On August 21st, Fox will take over "as many" IMAX 3D and digital 3D theaters as they can and screen 15 minutes from Avatar for free to whoever wants to see it. He's been waiting to show the world what this looks like and this is the perfect way to introduce everyone to Pandora. Having just seen footage, I can assure you, you won't want to miss this!
For those who were lucky enough to get into Hall H today in San Diego, they were treated to roughly 25 minutes of select scenes from Avatar. It started out with an introduction to Sam Worthington as Jake and then an introduction to what we'll be seeing for the remainder of the movie - his Avatar body. The bodies are actual biological beings and Jake's mind becomes a part of theirs and he, essentially, becomes this animal. These Na'vi are 10 foot tall creatures who are a pale blue color yet glow at night. This is the kind of footage you'll see on August 21st and this is the truly only way to get immersed into Cameron's amazing new world.
Could Quentin Tarantino End Up Shooting a Western Next?http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/24/could-quentin-tarantino-end-up-shooting-a-western-next/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/24/could-quentin-tarantino-end-up-shooting-a-western-next/)
Everything regarding Quentin Tarantino is a bit hazy right now, as he's just finishing up Inglourious Basterds and still only talking about working on that and even prequels and sequels from that same movie. But that doesn't mean Empire can't ask him about what he might be up to next as he was walking the red carpet at the London premiere of Basterds. "Well I still want to do a western, I haven't done a western yet. I keep flirting about with it, but I haven't done it yet," he told them. Not so fast, though. "Well I won't be able to do anything in ten months from now, because I don't even know what the next movie's gonna be."
In regards to upcoming projects, not only has Tarantino entertained the idea of actually making a prequel to Inglourious Basterds (that would include the infamous baseball bat signing scene involving Sgt. Donny Donowitz), but he's got a few other projects in the works, and none of them are really westerns. Two of his rumored next projects are remakes: one is the martial arts movie Come Drink With Me and the other is a modern re-imaginaging of Russ Meyer's Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. I'd love to see Tarantino dabble in the western genre, especially because he hasn't done one yet (and Sukiyaki Western Django doesn't count).
Of course, who really knows what he'll do next. Like with Inglourious Basterds, it could take him 10 years to put it together. And then he could announce randomly at a press event that it'll be ready in one year's time. I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more from Tarantino in the next few months as he ramps up promotion for the Basterds and the movie finally hit theaters. I think his loyal fans will be very happy to see him appearing often in the headlines once again. If you had it your way, what would you want Tarantino to shoot next?
Producers Promise a Dark Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Moviehttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/24/producers-promise-a-dark-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-movie/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/24/producers-promise-a-dark-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-movie/)
From their beginnings as a comic, through the years of video games and cartoons, various iterations of movies, and the amazing toy lines that have been produced, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have always had a soft spot in many people's hearts. This year at Comic-Con marks the 25th anniversary of the TMNT, and the progression towards what fans really want in a new Turtles movie appears to be on the horizon. I was fortunate enough to be at the TMNT panel this afternoon, and we were able to get an early feel for what the new TMNT live-action film currently being written by John Fusco will be all about.
Producers Scott Mednick and Galen Walker were on hand to answer a few questions about the new film, currently scheduled for a release sometime in 2011. "I love the Turtles. They have a special quality, the key is that we want to make the greatest Turtle movie ever," stated Walker, a response that was echoed by co-producer Mednick moments later. There is clearly a goal for TMNT, but what exactly is it? "In the world we live in today, in the golden age of superhero movies, we need to get back to where this all started."
I got the feeling from the producers that this will be somewhat of a Turtles origin story (which has been reported before). They were all very adamant about getting back to what the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in '90 did. "The interesting thing about TMNT was the combination of action and humor, and Steve Barron (director from the first Turtles movie) added one thing, heart. We want and need to go back to that. Let's make sure we don't dishonor what has been before, and let's create something new," added Mednick.
With these ideas in mind, the fans still wanted to know one thing - will TMNT follow the same path that other darker superhero movies have been going in the last few years. "Our point of view is this: go back and look at the original Turtles comics. They are very dark. The audience is much more sophisticated than they were in 1990. This is 2009. Take the new Harry Potter for example. It is rated PG and it's still a very dark film. We are headed that direction," Galen said. The fans cheered to this response, and there were smiles all around. For as little as we got today, it's obvious that there is a very bright light at the end of this tunnel.
As a Turtles fan, I am very excited to see what the future holds for this new movie. I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more about in the next few months. And of course, we'll always be the first to break any news for you.
Wanted 2 Starts Shooting Soon, But Who is Coming Back?http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/24/wanted-2-starts-shooting-soon-but-who-is-coming-back/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/07/24/wanted-2-starts-shooting-soon-but-who-is-coming-back/)
The one-and-only Timur Bekmambetov has showed up a few panels during Comic-Con this week, and therefore some exciting updates on Wanted 2 have arrived. First off, SuperHeroHype reported that Mark Millar said the script was completed and they're starting shooting in eight weeks, though they later found out that this meant they were just going into pre-production in eight weeks. We already know that James McAvoy is back as Wesley Gibson, but in case there was any hesitation, Timur confirmed during the panel for Shane Acker's 9 today that he is back and and that they're preparing to shoot in the next few months.
Without spoiling too much, though, Timur did mention something else interesting during that panel. He said that they're trying to "wake up" Fox, the character that Angelina Jolie played, and that she might return (but isn't confirmed yet). I'm sure Universal wants her back - I would argue she was one of the big names that made it such a success in the end. But how could she come back if she died, though? Well, Timur says that she ended up in one of those healing wax baths - so maybe she didn't die? This is good news for fans of Wanted, as it looks like we could see this next summer. We'll keep you updated on Jolie's return as well!
The Electronic Arts hit vidgame "Dead Space" is on course to become a sci-fi/horror film, with "Eagle Eye" helmer D.J. Caruso attached to direct.
EA will produce the film with Temple Hill partners Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.
The producers, EA and Caruso have been listening to takes from prospective screenwriters, and once they set a writer and EA signs off on a creative direction, they will auction the property to studios. That will likely happen in early September.
The last EA property to follow that course was "Dante's Inferno" -- a journey through the depths of hell; Universal made the deal after a four-studio bidding battle.
"Dead Space" is set in the 26th century in deep space, where an engineer who responds to a distress signal from a mining ship finds the vessel infested with monstrous creatures called Necromorphs. The creatures are human corpses, reanimated by an alien virus.
EA launched the game in 2008 and is working on the second and third installments.
"Dead Space" becomes the fifth EA title to percolate as a feature property. Aside from the "Dante's Inferno" film that will be produced by Strike Entertainment partners Eric Newman and Marc Abraham, EA is in business with Universal on "Army of Two," with Scott Z. Burns ("The Bourne Ultimatum") scripting and Scott Stuber producing. EA's "The Sims" is being developed by producer John Davis and "Mass Effect" by "Spider-Man" producer Avi Arad.
Temple Hill's Bowen and Godfrey are producing "Gears of War," a live-action adaptation of the Microsoft and Epic Games' vidgame for New Line, with Len Wiseman attached to direct and Chris Morgan scripting.
Caruso is also developing "Defender," the Gary Witta-scripted DreamWorks drama that Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci are producing.
EA's repped by UTA and attorney David Fox, while Caruso's repped by CAA and Media Talent Group.

Casting Bits: Kwon Sang-woo as Kato, Milla Jovovich as Alicehttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/08/01/casting-bits-kwon-sang-woo-as-kato-milla-jovovich-as-alice/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/08/01/casting-bits-kwon-sang-woo-as-kato-milla-jovovich-as-alice/)
I've received numerous emails alerting me that Korean actor Kwon Sang-woo has been cast as Kato in Seth Rogen's Green Hornet movie, replacing Stephen Chow. The news officially comes from the Korea Times, where they say that "Kwon reportedly passed an English audition, attended by Seth Rogen and newly attached director Michel Gondry." It hasn't been officially announced by Sony yet, but there are numerous sites reporting the news, and all these emails claim it's confirmed as well. A casting call on this blog also includes his name. Kwon is a martial artist, however, this would be his first big Hollywood role. Read on!
Another casting tidbit worth mentioning today is this news from Bloody-Disgusting that claims that Milla Jovovich is returning for the recently announced Resident Evil 4: Afterlife in a starring role. "I'm the lead role [again]," Jovovich tells them. "There's the clones [from Resident Evil: Extinction] and it's going to be a lot of work. I’m gonna be working every day for the next four months on this and it's gonna be bigger than ever. It's super-exciting." Apparently Sony really wants to reignite this franchise, as Extinction only made them $50.6 million, and I'm sure they figure they can get way more if they bring Jovovich back again.
For more information on either of these stories, head to the following sites: The Korea Times for more on Kwon Sang-woo in The Green Hornet; Bloody-Disgusting for more on Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil 4.
Kwon Sang-woo May Make Hollywood Debuthttp://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/special/2009/07/178_49260.html (http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/special/2009/07/178_49260.html)
Actor Kwon Sang-woo may soon be making his Hollywood debut with a role in the upcoming film ``The Green Hornet,'' Nate News reported last Friday. Kwon is said to be up for the role of Kato, the Green Hornet's sidekick ― a role which was originally meant for Chinese star Stephen Chow. Chow was also supposed to direct the film based on the 1930s radio program-turned-comic book, but stepped down in December 2008 due to creative differences and pulled out of the role last July.
Kwon reportedly passed an English audition, attended by Seth Rogen and newly attached director Michel Gondry (``Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"). The final decision will be announced in a month.
Rogen, who co-wrote the script, will play the role of the Green Hornet. The film will be about a newspaper publisher who becomes a crime-fighting vigilante at night. The Green Hornet has already been adapted into a comic book, TV series and feature film. Kato's ethnicity changed over the years from Japanese to Filipino to Korean, depending on current political climates. Nicholas Cage has also signed on to play a villain, while Cameron Diaz will play the Green Hornet's love interest.
If Kwon claims the role of Kato, he will be the third Korean actor to co-star in a major upcoming Hollywood action film. Lee Byung-hun will play Storm Shadow in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,'' to be released here Aug. 6, while Rain will fulfill the role of Raizo in "Ninja Assassin,'' to be released Nov. 25. The Green Hornet has scheduled a U.S. release date of July 9, 2010. The release date for Korea has not been announced.
Jay Chou Officially Cast as Kato in Rogen's Green Hornethttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/08/07/jay-chou-officially-cast-as-kato-in-rogens-green-hornet/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/08/07/jay-chou-officially-cast-as-kato-in-rogens-green-hornet/)
Forget what we said last week about Korean actor Kwon Sang-woo being cast as Kato in Seth Rogen's The Green Hornet, because apparently that was 100% wrong. Sony has confirmed via a press release today (read it here) that they've cast Taiwanese actor Jay Chou in the role instead. Chou is a singer and actor (much like Korean star Rain) and a huge star throughout Asia and will definitely draw international crowds. “Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog! When I filmed him next to Seth, they had such great chemistry, and I knew the movie will be great," director Michel Gondry said about casting him.
"It's an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won't try to be Bruce Lee's Kato – I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it's a dream role, and I'm looking forward to the challenge." A classic character of film, television, radio, and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures' feature film The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen as the vigilante crime-fighter. This being directed by Michel Gondry from a screenplay written by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, based upon "The Green Hornet" radio series. The Green Hornet is set to hit theaters on July 9th, 2010.
Sony Moving Forward on Developing Underworld 4 in 3Dhttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/08/08/sony-moving-forward-on-developing-underworld-4-in-3d/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/08/08/sony-moving-forward-on-developing-underworld-4-in-3d/)
I'm not a fan of the Underworld franchise at all. I was obsessed with the first one before it came out, but once I actually got to see it, I lost all interest, and I haven't seen either of the sequels (or the first one again) since then. I respect that a lot of people may still be fans of the franchise, so this news is really for them. ShockTillYouDrop has confirmed that Sony / Screen Gems is developing another sequel in the Underworld franchise and it will be shot in 3D. Their current plan is to have it ready to go by January of 2011, mirroring the January release of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans earlier this year as well. Any big fans out there?
If you're wondering why Sony would even considering making more, well, the last one actually made them quite a bit of money. It took in $91 million worldwide and was only made for $35 million. No word yet on whether or not any of the stars of Rise of the Lycans, such as Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy or Rhona Mitra, will be returning, or whether they'll bring back any of original cast like Kate Beckinsale or Scott Speedman (since that's the trend these days). As for the 3D side of this, it just means they're trying to get more cash in any way they can and it's, as usual, unnecessary, but since this isn't a franchise I care much about, oh well.
Warner Bros. Puts Together a Lego Film
Variety reports that Warner Bros. is developing a movie that is set around Lego and its component building blocks.
Writing the screenplay will be Dan and Kevin Hageman. It is believed that the project will be family comedy and it will mix live action and animation. Warner Bros. is revealing very little about the plot, but it is being called "an action adventure set in a Lego world."
Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) is going to be producing the film.
A Lego film has proved quite elusive for directors and producers for several years. Lego has been approached many times and they have turned down the ideas. They have only done direct-to-DVD animated fare that is based on its line of Bionicle toys.
Lego liked the idea that Lin and the Hageman brought to the film. Specifically, "a fun factor, creativity and that imagination has no boundaries," Lin said.
Apparently, the development process has been happening for a year. The writers and the producer have been going back and forth to Denmark so they could work with Lego on the project.
Singer 'to direct' Battlestar Galactica film
Bryan Singer will direct and produce a film version of the TV series Battlestar Galactica, reports say.
Trade magazine Variety claims he has signed up to make the science fiction movie, despite unconfirmed reports that he was linked to another X-Men film.
Battlestar Galactica started as a TV mini series in the US in 1978 and the pilot was subsequently shown in UK cinemas.
It was revived in 2003 in a new version starring Edward James Olmos.
Wolverine
Meanwhile, Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote Singer's 1994 movie The Usual Suspects, has signed up to write a Wolverine sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Australian actor Hugh Jackman is expected to return as the Marvel Comics character and will also co-produce the film.
The studio commissioned a sequel after the first movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, made $363m (£217m) worldwide.
Another New Screenwriter Hired for Universal's Bourne 4http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/08/20/another-new-screenwriter-hired-for-universals-bourne-4/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/08/20/another-new-screenwriter-hired-for-universals-bourne-4/)
What is it with Hollywood these days? Why are they cycling through so many different writers on fourth movies? Spider-Man 4 has gone through three writers, now the new Bourne movie is up to at least two (not including others we don't know about). THR has announced that Josh Zetumer, an up-and-coming writer also assigned to Peter Berg's Dune remake, was hired to write a Bourne 4 script for Universal. Originally, Bourne Ultimatum writer George Nolfi had been brought back on to write the next screenplay, apparently he didn't finish enough of the script in time. Zetumer's version is being described as a "parallel script."
Since Nolfi had to ditch the project in order to start directing The Adjustment Bureau, Universal got desperate and hired Zetumer, as they're pushing for Bourne 4 to hit theaters in 2011. "Our hope is that Nolfi, a key member of the Bourne team, will return after he is done with The Adjustment Bureau," a Universal spokesperson said. It is unclear what will occur after Zetumer submits his draft or whether his script will be integrated with Nolfi's. It's an interesting development that might mean good news in the end, or so I hope. Maybe if Zetumer turns in a great script, they'll borrow the best elements of each for the final draft.
Back in April, producer Frank Marshall said that "Bourne 4 is in the works for Summer 2011." However, since then, we've heard conflicting reports about the status. Jason Bourne himself, Matt Damon, told EW earlier this week: "We're hoping to make a fourth, but we don't have a story and we don't have a script. I assume it can happen, but we have to come up with a storyline that's deserving." He doesn't sound too optimistic, but I'm sure Universal is doing everything they can to make this happen, as it's a franchise they can guarantee will still be successful, which is what they need coming off of a terrible summer like this.
The Academy Makes Changes to the Best Picture Voting Ruleshttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/08/31/the-academy-makes-a-change-to-the-best-picture-voting-rules/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/08/31/the-academy-makes-a-change-to-the-best-picture-voting-rules/)
Back in June, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced that there would be 10 Best Picture nominees instead of 5 at the upcoming 82nd Academy Awards being held next February. To this day still, that decision causes heated debates among film fanatics, mainly because we don't yet know the kind of impact it will have, and every week we see new movies that have the potential to make it in as a nominee (District 9? Inglourious Basterds?). However, the Academy has announced new voting rules today for members that may effect the final outcome in a big way. It's confusing, but we'll do our best to explain.
Here's an explanation of the new voting rules courtesy of The Wrap. Read on for why it makes a difference.
Instead of just voting for one nominee, the way Academy members have almost always done on the final ballot, voters will be asked to rank all 10 nominees in order of preference — and the results will be tallied using the complicated preferential system, which has been used for decades during the nominating process but almost never on the final ballot.
As a result, a film could be the first choice of the largest number of voters, but find itself nudged out of the top prize by another movie that got fewer number one votes but more twos and threes.
The goal, says Academy executive director Bruce Davis, is to eliminate the possibility that one of the films could win with less than 18% of the vote. One of the issues that increasing the nominees to 10 presents is that, initially, members voting for one movie would vote so sporadically, that it would only take 18% for one movie to win - and that wouldn't be a proper representation of the Academy's choice for Best Picture (they want a majority). That's why this change was made, in order to eliminate that extreme possibility, with the Academy members ranking all 10 of the movies instead, then using a bit of math to determine the winner.
Our friends at Film School Rejects have a fantastic write-up on the new voting rules and both the good and bad. "The major problems have to do with voters themselves," Cole says, but "there are still going to be tight races, still going to be upsets and surprises, and still going to be some genuine winners." Everyone will argue about this for months and months, and even after the Best Picture winner is chosen next year, I'm sure a few people will still argue about it. That's just the nature of the Oscars, but it's also why they're so exciting. Right now I'm just looking forward to seeing what 10 movies end up getting nominated.
Warner Brothers & DC Comics Form DC Entertainment Inc.http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/09/09/warner-brothers-dc-comics-form-dc-entertainment-inc/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/09/09/warner-brothers-dc-comics-form-dc-entertainment-inc/)
A response to Disney's acquisition of Marvel maybe? It seems that DC Comics properties are finally going to see the same kind of structure and stability that Marvel has displayed over the past few years, as Warner Bros. Entertainment as created a brand-spankin'-new company, dubbed DC Entertainment Inc., that will "fully realize the power and value of the DC Comics brand and characters across all media and platforms." Or so the press release says. DC Entertainment is to be run by Diane Nelson, former president of Warner Premiere (the studio's direct-to-video arm) that cranked out quite a few movies based on DC properties. Paul Levitz, president and publisher of DC Comics since 2002, is to become a writer and consultant for DC Entertainment after a new executive publisher is found, according to Nikki Finke. This restructuring, however, will not have Levitz reporting directly to Nelson, though how much control and to what depth his consultation will reach is as of yet unknown. With Disney snatching Marvel just a little over a week ago, the DC Comics/Warner Bros relationship may have found its own sense of stability with this news.
Often plagued by studio interference, the starting and stopping of scripts in the works, and without any solid DC franchises, save Batman, the creation of DC Entertainment is looking to rectify this — and fast. Already DC Comics' Jonah Hex has wrapped shooting and Green Lantern is set to shoot this spring, but DC is still a far-cry away from Marvel's stranglehold on the comic book-movie genre. Perhaps under the fixated umbrella of DC Entertainment, DC Comics can more equally compete with Marvel in theaters. Though, as a branch of Warner Bros, it's as of yet unknown if WB will be as hands-off as Disney has promised for Marvel, or if DC Entertainment will hold as much control as Marvel did when they were self-financed. Regardless, it is still exciting to see Warner Bros making a strategic and bold move with DC. Now let's roll these franchises out. Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Justice League — I'm looking at all of you to follow in the footsteps of Nolan's uber-successful Batman franchise. What do all of you think of this news?
Harrison Ford Says the Story for Indiana Jones 5 is Readyhttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/09/14/harrison-ford-says-the-story-for-indiana-jones-5-is-ready/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/09/14/harrison-ford-says-the-story-for-indiana-jones-5-is-ready/)
We've all read Shia LaBeouf's quotes, we know he's all set for the fifth installment of one of my most beloved trilogies of all time - wait, there was a fourth Indy film? Hm. Must've missed that - oh, that's right, it was terrible and made me loathe everyone involved. Right. Well, we were all updated that the fifth installment, tentatively titled just Indiana Jones 5, was in the research phase a few months back, but according to People, Indy himself, Harrison Ford, is ready to don the fedora and crack his whip again - depending on the script, of course. Although apparently Lucas and Spielberg have already figured out what the story is.
"The story for the new Indiana Jones is in the process of taking form," Ford told France's Le Figaro. "Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will concern, and George is actively at work. If the script is good, I'll be very happy to put the costume on again." So there you go.
I love the Indiana Jones films. In fact, I judge people based on which film is their favorite (I'm a Last Crusade type of guy), but the putrid taste that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull left in my mouth has my gag reflex still a bit dodgy. I don't really want to see Mutt return at Indy's side in some kind of bastardization of the brilliance that was the father-son story in The Last Crusade. But, it's happening. The momentum is too great to be stopped. It's not that I don't think Ford can pull off the classic Indy swagger at the age of 67, and I'm not saying that there isn't a possibility that Indy 5 could be a great action adventure film - it's just that the risk is too great. I've lost faith. Hopefully this story is an improvement.
Christoph Waltz is Villainous Again in The Green Hornethttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/09/14/christoph-waltz-is-villainous-again-in-the-green-hornet/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/09/14/christoph-waltz-is-villainous-again-in-the-green-hornet/)
Good - nay, great - news, everyone! If you remember, at the beginning of the month we revealed a few more choice casting decisions for Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet, including Edward James Olmos and Tom Wilkinson. At that time, the role of the "gangster villain" had yet to be inhabited, but the rumors were that Nicolas Cage was close to signing on. Well, enter Christoph Waltz, fresh off his sure-to-be-nominated performance as Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds who, according to Nikki Finke on Deadline Hollywood, has just been cast to play the villain in this instead of Cage. Now that's a big step up!
If I were the other actors, namely Seth Rogen, I'd be a bit intimidated to have Waltz as my opposition. And, talk about elevating a film beyond the height it had already achieved - and escaping the Nicolas Cage plague. The playful, but always eerie, aspects of Waltz's Inglourious Basterds performance should prove to mesh perfectly with director Michel Gondry's action-comedy aesthetic. There's no doubt in my mind that this is the perfect man for the job. Personally, I want as much Christoph Waltz as I can get, even if it's in big studio features like this. Sony Pictures has currently set The Green Hornet for release on December 17th, 2010.
I just watched Pontypool.
Don't watch Pontypool when you're high.
That's all I'm going to say.
Rambo V's Crazy Sci-Fi Man vs. Elite Soldier Plot is No Morehttp://www.firstshowing.net/2009/11/12/rambo-vs-crazy-sci-fi-man-vs-elite-soldier-plot-is-no-more/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/11/12/rambo-vs-crazy-sci-fi-man-vs-elite-soldier-plot-is-no-more/)
A while back, Stallone announced that Rambo V was in the pipeline. It's plot was to take a decidedly sci-fi turn that previous Rambo films had not yet ventured towards. The film was to center around a US Military installation experimenting on its soldiers to "tap into [the] savagery that we have deeply embedded [inside] us." Basically, these elite soldiers are to become purely instinctual killing machines without a shred of regret, with nary a single qualm about taking a human life. Rambo was going to be the guy who'd have to bring one of these monstrosities down. The one hunting, instead of being hunted. And I was oh so excited! Those were the days! And those days are no more, at least for the Rambo series, that is. Here's what Sly himself had to say to his loyal fans over at StalloneZone regarding the change of plot for Rambo V:
To all the loyal SZoners out there,
I'm letting you know that Rambo has changed course and the story about hunting the man/beast will be done using another character in the lead. RAMBO himself will be heading over the border to a violent city where many young women have vanished.
There will be blood.
Welp, at least Sly hasn't thrown out that awesome creature-feature idea completely. It'll probably come to fruition as a more direct adaptation of Hunter, the novel by James Byron Huggins that the story was based on. And that means after The Expendables, we'll be seeing at least two more balls-out action movies from the legend. As for what Rambo V will be now, well, that's still up for speculation. From his quote, we know he'll be "heading over the border." But what border? Rambo goes to Canada?! Nah, probably not. Probably Mexico. And that's where he'll do what he does best: leave a massive body count in his wake. Awesome.
^ The Hangover is the shit
'Hangover' sequel for 2011
When The Hangover crossed over into mainstream pop culture, three significant things happened.
Number one, a sequel was guaranteed. Director Todd Phillips is preparing it for a 2010 summer shoot and a May 26, 2011 release through Warner Bros. But the storyline and even the city of debauchery is secret, Phillips says. “I’ve been instructed by Warners not to (tell),” he admits.
Bond 23 is On Hold Until MGM Figures Out Money Problemshttp://www.firstshowing.net/2010/01/04/bond-23-is-on-hold-until-mgm-figures-out-money-problems/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/01/04/bond-23-is-on-hold-until-mgm-figures-out-money-problems/)
As a lifelong die-hard James Bond fan, I always hate reporting this kind of news, especially when this latest Daniel Craig version of Bond has been so successful. But alas I'm only the messenger and there's nothing I can really do. When we first reported that MGM was having financial issues last September, James Bond was highlighted as one of their key franchises - "the studio doesn't think it can stay alive without 007." Then we heard in December from screenwriter Peter Morgan that the sequel was on hold. MI6 confirmed with producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli that Bond 23 is indeed on hold for the time being.
"Well, our timeline's a little up in the air what with the situation at MGM, so we have to be flexible. We just don't know enough about the situation to comment, but we know it's uncertain."
So Bond 23 is "uncertain"? That's not good at all! MGM is supposed to have an update in the next few weeks, whether it be more financing or a takeover or a sale, so we should know more soon. And I'm sure as soon as they figure out what's going on (or sell to new owners), they'll put Bond 23 back in action. Morgan said that he's finished with the script and everything seems to be ready to go, it's just a matter of getting greenlit early enough to make a late 2011 release. Speaking of the story, Wilson says it's not as far along as we may think.
"Well… we've hired the writers and we've been working with them but it's just too early to say anything," he said. "You know, often at this stage, I find myself saying, 'Oh, we're gonna do this and that', then six months from now you'll say, 'That isn't in the film at all - you told me it was…' I think we're at the stage where a lot of ideas are floating around that sound very good, but whether they make the final cut, who knows?"
Very interesting statements. Let's hope the "shocking story" that Peter Morgan talked about last year is still intact, because I think that kind of story could really re-energize the Bond franchise once again (coming off of Quantum of Solace). Not that it needs anything like that, it just needs money and a greenlight as well as a good director and I'm sure it'll be as big of a success as its always been previously. As I said at the beginning, as a die-hard Bond fan, I'm just anxious to see the next one as soon as possible. As long as it starts shooting by early 2011 (which is still reportedly the case), they'll get the next one out on time.
Sam Mendes is Directing James Bond 23, On Track for 2011!http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/01/05/sam-mendes-directing-james-bond-23-on-track-for-2011/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/01/05/sam-mendes-directing-james-bond-23-on-track-for-2011/)
MGM has announced (via Heat Vision) that Oscar winning British filmmaker Sam Mendes, of American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, and Away We Go, has been hired to direct the upcoming 23rd James Bond movie. Despite recent concerns that the production was temporarily on hold, MGM is on track to release Bond 23 in late 2011. Bond regulars Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are writing the script along with Frost/Nixon writer Peter Morgan. Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will produce. Daniel Craig will, of course, reprise his role as 007. Looks like they put together one hell of a great team!
Bond 23 will be Mendes' first "action-heavy project," especially since Jarhead didn't really have any action. I just hope he doesn't pull another Jarhead and turn James Bond into an intelligent, slow-moving drama without any killing or chasing or spying, because that would really upset me. This also probably means we'll see Mendes' wife Kate Winslet in the movie, considering he usually casts her most of his movies. Mendes is certainly a great filmmaker, I just don't feel like he's the right guy to tackle the next Bond. Something just feels odd about this and I'm honestly concerned. We'll see who else he casts in this. What do you think?
Update: If you didn't already figure this out, this announcement today was MGM's sly way of "covering up" the story about Bond 23 being put on hold. Since no one would believe them that it wasn't on hold, they just decided to make this announcement to prove that it was still moving forward as planned. Nikki Finke has another update saying that Mendes is only being brought on as a "consultant" for the time being because once he's signed on as director, MGM has to spend money (and they don't have any). "The producers are working on a deal to bring Sam on as consultant with an eye to direct." But he's not officially signed on yet.
Darren Aronofsky's Robocop is Under 'Arrested Development'http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/01/06/darren-aronofskys-robocop-is-under-arrested-development/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/01/06/darren-aronofskys-robocop-is-under-arrested-development/)
Pun intended! Last July we reported things were a bit shaky regarding Darren Aronofsky's forthcoming remake of RoboCop. The folks over at RoboCop Archive (via Moviehole) have now confirmed the worst (or maybe the best depending on how badly you want a RoboCop remake) as Phoenix Pictures says that it's on hold and "the problem is that Mary Parent, Chairperson of MGM, wants a 3D movie for the new RoboCop. But, as you know, Darren Aronofsky is a real artist and he's not interested in gimmicks like, 3D, CGI, filming digital, he wants to do everything as real [or organic] as possible just like The Fountain." Damn straight!
While it sounds a bit condescending to say that anyone who uses 3D, CGI, or digital filmmaking isn't a "real artist," I'm 100% behind Aronofsky's desire to make RoboCop as genuine and organic as possible. Sure 3D and CGI have brought a plethora of new ways for filmmakers to craft worlds, characters and the like, but a RoboCop special effects bonanza in 3D would just be white noise whereas a RoboCop film shot under the unique filmmaking eye of Aronofsky in an unconventional, grounded manner will be a nice change of pace. Aronofsky isn't the guy you get to direct a film like this if all you're going to do is try to control his creativity. If you're looking for that filmmaker, his name is Joe Johnston, and he's busy sorting out his last disaster.
Will Arnett Says 'Arrested Development' Will Shoot This Yearhttp://www.firstshowing.net/2010/01/11/will-arnett-says-arrested-development-movie-to-shoot-this-year/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/01/11/will-arnett-says-arrested-development-movie-to-shoot-this-year/)
Good news for those of you who are fans of "Arrested Development." After years of hearing rumors and rumblings of a movie being in the works, it looks like they're finally going to shoot one this year. Well, it's still a little early to say it'll happen 100%, but with Michael Cera saying it'd shoot this year as well, I think they're really trying to make it happen. ComingSoon talked with Will Arnett recently who confirmed that they're definitely going to shoot it this year. "That's the plan," Arnett told them, before joking that, "We're hoping [to shoot it] once Jason Bateman gets out of rehab. I think that's when we're going to start shooting."
Arnett otherwise gave a fairly straight answer: "It's very refreshing. We are working on the movie right now, yeah… We don't have a completed script yet, but it's forthcoming and we're going to make the movie this year." As far as I know, that means they got everyone to agree to return, including Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Alia Shawkat, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor, etc, but who knows if they've got other new plans? We also want to know if Ron Howard will direct, but it doesn't seem likely considering he's shooting that Vince Vaughn comedy next. We'll keep you updated! Who's excited to finally see an Arrested Development movie?
Taylor Lautner cast in Stretch Armstrong moviesource: http://www.kungfucinema.com/taylor-lautner-cast-in-stretch-armstrong-movie-13351 (http://www.kungfucinema.com/taylor-lautner-cast-in-stretch-armstrong-movie-13351)
A live-action feature film based on the popular Hasbro action figure Stretch Armstrong is in the works at Universal with Steve Oedekerk scripting and XMA-trained NEW MOON star Taylor Lautner cast in the lead.
Some may recall that Oedekerk, who produced Nickelodeon’s “The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron,” also wrote and directed the kung fu movie spoof KUNG POW: ENTER THE FIST (2002).
Lautner is currently riding high as one of the stars of hit teen sci-fi film series TWILIGHT. In addition to his upcoming role in the third film, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, Lautner has been cast in two action films. He will star in MAX STEEL, which is based on another toy and CANCUN, a film that is expected to allow him to show off his extreme martial arts skills in an island adventure.
Stretch Armstrong was introduced to the market in 1976, originally by Kenner. Unlike other action figures, Stretch was filled with gel that allowed his elastic arms and legs to be stretched out.
There isn’t much of story to go with the toy but other related action figures have been sold over the years including Evil X-Ray Wretch Armstrong, Stretch Monster and Fetch Armstrong, a stretchable dog.
Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams return to action for 'Mission: Impossible IV'
09/02/2010 7:36:00 PM
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
LOS ANGELES - Tom Cruise is starring in another impossible mission.
Paramount Pictures announced Tuesday that Cruise will be back in front of the camera for "Mission: Impossible IV," due in theatres over Memorial Day weekend in 2011.
Cruise and "Mission: Impossible III" director J.J. Abrams previously agreed to produce a fourth movie in the action franchise. But it had not been known if Cruise would star again.
Abrams will stick to producing this time, with the search on for a director to shoot the new instalment. Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are writing the script, based on a story idea from Cruise and Abrams.
The movie reunites Cruise and Paramount, which cut the actor loose from a long-term development deal in 2006.
Bruce Willis Says We Might See Die Hard 5 Sometime Soon?http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/02/22/bruce-willis-says-we-might-see-die-hard-5-sometime-soon/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/02/22/bruce-willis-says-we-might-see-die-hard-5-sometime-soon/)
Oh no, not another one. Bruce Willis is out talking to press this week for Kevin Smith's Cop Out, which hits theaters on Friday, and of course he was asked about the Die Hard franchise, since that's one franchise people still seem to love (even though the last one sucked). MTV asked him if there's a chance we'll see a Die Hard 5 and Willis says it might happen, but there aren't many details to give right now. But he does have some ideas. "I would hire Len Wiseman right now," he says, referring to the Live Free or Die Hard director. Personally, I would rather he not be hired because I believe he screwed up the last one, but that's just me.
So where could they go in this sequel if they've already explored most of the US (by way of the "internet") in Die Hard, Die Harder, Die Hard: With a Vengeance, and Live Free or Die Hard? What about not in the US! "Well, it's got to go worldwide," Willis said. "That would be my contribution to [the next movie]." Okay, I'm down for that, but we need a story first, and it sounds like Fox hasn't even thought about hiring a writer yet. "I take a certain amount of pride in being part of that [mythology], and the fact that I still get to do it," he says. "[But] making people laugh is the real deal." Just don't let Die Hard 5 become an action comedy.
I think Drew McWeeny of HitFix said it best: "Maybe I misread the general reaction to the last film in the Die Hard series. Maybe there are people out there saying to themselves right now, 'I wonder what happened to John McClane after he fought that jet airplane bare-handed and saved the universe from the Internet,' but if so, I've never met one of them." This franchise started it out with one of the best action movies ever (Die Hard) and ended up with one of the worst action movies ever (Live Free or Die Hard), so I don't have any desire to see another sequel, even though I'm sure Fox is probably trying to make it happen anyway.
You can read more of (and watch) the interview with Willis over on MTV if you're interested. I hope this doesn't happen, but Willis seems like he wants it to happen, and if that's the case, then I'm sure he's on the phone with Fox right now. But maybe people want to see this butchered franchise continue on?
Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 Happening In 2010
Looks like the February rumors were accurate: according to HitFix's Drew McWeeny, Logan Lerman is Sony's choice to go a-web-slingin' in Marc Webb's teen-skewing reboot of SPIDER-MAN.
Lerman recently turned in solid work as the titular demigod in Chris Columbus' PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF, but this is easily his highest-profile role to date. He evidently beat out the likes of Anton Yelchin, Jesse Eisenberg, twenty-seven-year-old Patrick Fugit and Johnny Simmons (who would've been my choice out of this group).
SPIDER-MAN BEGIN AGAIN is expected to go before cameras later this year in order to hit its July 3, 2012 release date. Will audiences be cool with a full-scale reinvention of a film series they seemed to be enjoying up until three years ago? Seeing as how 99% of entertainment is disposable nowadays, I've no doubt they'll be happy to consign Sam Raimi's movies to the scrap-heap of movies they sorta-enjoyed texting through.
The lovely and talented Jamie Vanderbilt (ZODIAC) is the only credited screenwriter at the moment. We'll see how long that lasts.
Hollywood is need of a serious beatdown, fo sho.
46 movie remakes and reboots currently in the works
This is WTF. Then again, Ghandi was played by a Brit.At least Rourke is a decent actor. He at least can't do any worse than when John Wayne played Khan.
American actor Mickey Rourke will play Genghis Khan in a new film.
Stallone Says That Rambo is 'Done' & There Won't Be Anotherhttp://www.firstshowing.net/2010/05/01/stallone-says-that-rambo-is-done-there-wont-be-another/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/05/01/stallone-says-that-rambo-is-done-there-wont-be-another/)
One of the biggest, and strangest, news stories of last year was one about Sylvester Stallone's Rambo V: The Savage Hunt, his fifth movie in that action series that would introduce some sci-fi to the franchise. Stallone seemed pretty intent on making another sequel, even going so far as to clarify that the story had changed to being about "heading over the border to a violent city," as of last November. Well, found in the latest issue of Empire are some new quotes, re-published by TheShiznit (via ComingSoon), from Stallone himself that stating that the Rambo franchise is finished and that there will no longer be a fifth movie.
"I think Rambo's pretty well done. I don't think there'll be any more. I'm about 99 per cent sure."
Although it's unclear (since we're not in Stallone's head) why he's decided to stop after developing another sequel for so long, speculation is that he's so confident in other projects like Expendables that he doesn't need to rely on that franchise anymore. "We are very serious… we're already working on an [Expendables] sequel." So if you're a Rambo fan you better be content with the way Expendables looks, because that will probably be filling in for Rambo. Stallone has a few other action projects in development, but it looks like he's finally decided to leave Rambo and Rocky behind. It's time to move on to bigger and better, I say!
20th Century Fox Remaking CommandoThat is so fucking wrong
There will also be a new Autobot whose car mode will be the Ferrari 458 Italia.Watch it's gonna be Kup. :P
The "R" rated theatrical release was uncut. The extended cut isn't simply a couple of deleted scenes or violent bits added back into the movie, but rather a complete recut. For example, the movie no longer begins with the "contest" the soldiers force upon the Karen villagers. There are lots of little tweaks, restructuring and changes throughout(including the removal or shortening of some of the more questionable FX shots). I happen to think it's a far superior version of the movie when directly compared to the theatrical cut.
...includes an extended cut with a brand new 80+ minute production diary from Sylvester Stallone.
Wait - There IS Another New Rambo Movie Coming in 2011?http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/05/13/wait-there-is-another-new-rambo-movie-coming-in-2011/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/05/13/wait-there-is-another-new-rambo-movie-coming-in-2011/)
Wait, wait, wait… what the heck is going on here? If you remember, a few weeks ago we reported a big story about Sylvester Stallone himself saying, to Empire magazine, that: "I think Rambo's pretty well done. I don't think there'll be any more. I'm about 99% sure." Well, maybe that 1% slipped through, as I ventured through the Cannes Marketplace showfloor earlier today with Peter from SlashFilm and we picked up a new promotional flyer (and saw a poster on their wall) at the Nu Image / Millennium Films booth for Rambo V (see above). It doesn't say anything except "Coming 2011" on the back. So is it actually happening anyway?
We don't really know what is going on, and nobody else seems to know either, but we'll of course keep you updated. There's a possibility that Millennium had some contract with Stallone and is forcing him to return to make another, despite his desire to leave and work on other franchises like The Expendables (hence his statements). Or, although this is much more unlikely, there's a possibility that Nu Image hasn't been told by Stallone yet that he's not going to make Rambo V, and they're selling a (dead) film that will never actually get made. Who really knows if we'll see Rambo V or not, but we hope to get to the bottom of all this soon!
Update: After this news first broke, Ain't It Cool News got in touch with Stallone and asked him what's up with all of this. His answer was a plain and simple: "NO FUCKING WAY." As I predicted above, Stallone says he has "no clue" what's up with this poster and thinks that "it could be the rights holders trying to raise ludicrous funds to get Sly back in front of the camera. Sly said, 'Maybe, but it ain't happening.' He then told me that the folks behind those posters essentially said that if Sly didn't do it - someone else would. And Sly seems fine with that." Rambo without Stallone? Will that even work? I doubt it, but we'll find out soon.
Timothy Olyphant could be taking on the lead role of Snake Plissken in Breck Eisner’s remake of Escape From New York.
The part was originally played by Kurt Russell in John Carpenter’s 1981 film, which had the one-eyed soldier attempting to escape a futuristic prison based in an abandoned New York City.
With Eisner and Olyphant having worked together on this year’s surprisingly decent The Crazies, it seems both are keen to re-pair for future projects.
And Escape could be just that project. Eisner spoke to Movieweb recently, stating:
“I love working with Timothy Olyphant, and I will be working with him again. He is an amazing actor. A talented guy. And he’s incredibly funny. He needs to do a great comedy, because he is a funny guy. But I will work with him again. I can promise you that.”
This re-do will shake up the original’s concept, with the remake cannibalising a Snake Plissken origins story with bits of the 1981’s original plot. (Vulture, who saw the script, said it “nailed the humour in Plissken without slipping into camp”.)
Speaking recently to ComingSoon, Eisner explained other changes, which include setting the movie in a penal colony rather than a post-apocalyptic New York.
“Conceptually, it’s an idea that’s not true today because of the world we live in. So, how the prison is created is going to be different than in Carpenter’s version. The anxiety of the world and anxiety of our existence post-9/11 is there, especially the anxiety in Manhattan post-9/11.
“Plot-wise, they’re different, emotionally they’re very similar. That’s why it’ll be interesting to tackle this movie, to have a slightly different take but with the same results which is Manhattan is turned into a walled prison.”
With these two on board, could this be a rare good remake? We’re ever hopeful…
Think Olyphant would make for a great Snake?

"Why don't you go back to your home on whore island?!"
Saw Departures AKA Okuribito on Saturday! Oh wow, that was a great movie~ Super sad but oh so good. :thumbsup
"Departures", a Japanese drama about an unemployed cellist who was forced to take a job in the funeral business, was crowned the best Asian film. The drama also won the best foreign language film in last year's Oscars.
Insiders tell Vulture that it's come down to two directors vying to call the shots on Fox's sequel to Wolverine: Twilight: Eclipse director David Slade, and Robert Schwentke (Flightplan, The Time Traveler's Wife). Both men have been approved by the studio's brass, and though Jackman will ultimately be the one to make the call after meeting with each next week, a well-placed source inside the production insists, "It's going to be Slade."
As for the plot, McQuarrie's last draft from January has us rejoining Logan in Japan, where we left him at the end of the first Origins movie. There, he begins a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man. This being Hugh Jackman, of course, he doesn't take no for an answer. And, this being Japan, that doesn't go over so well. Soon enough, Logan must do battle with her furious father and samurai-sword-wielding brothers. Wolverine claws versus samurai swords? Truly, a geeky Sophie's Choice.
The action-packed series centres on a spy and assassin (Maggie Q) for a top secret U.S. government agency, who rebels against the system that created her and will stop at nothing to bring their powerful operation to an end. In 2007, film producer Brian Rogers met former Toho company director Yoshimitsu Banno who had the rights to make an IMAX 3D Godzilla film. Rogers then met Toho to arrange a license to produce a 3D Godzilla film. After securing the rights, Rogers approached several film companies and Legendary Pictures agreed to work with Rogers on the project. In August 2009, rumors surfaced that Legendary were in talks with Toho to produce a new American Godzilla film to be released in 2012.
On March 29, 2010, it was confirmed that Legendary had acquired the rights to Godzilla. They plan to reboot the franchise with Warner Bros. co-producing and co-financing. TriStar Pictures will not be involved in the production due to their rights expiring in 2003. Legendary plans to make the new film closer in style to the original Japanese character than TriStar's iguana creature. According to Thomas Tull, chairman and CEO of Legendary Pictures, "Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop culturally relevant for as long as it has."
At the 3D Summit conference held in September 2010 at Universal Studios, producer Brian Rogers confirmed the planned date of 2012. The reboot will be a live-action project featuring a computer-generated Godzilla. Godzilla will fight at least one or multiple monsters, rather than simply the military as seen in Emmerich's remake. Rogers also confirmed that the two Godzilla head design stills that were floating around the internet and rumored to have been designed by Legendary and sent to Toho for approval were fake, they were just simply fan made. Rogers also went on to say that he and Legendary want to revive Godzilla in the same way Legendary revived Batman.
In October 2010, Latino Review reported on two rumours about the Godzilla project. The first was that Guillermo del Toro, the directer of Blade II, Pan's Labrinth and the Hellboy film franchise, was approached to direct the movie, which Del Toro later denied. The second was that Legendary was adapting an existing screenplay by Clash of the Titans remake writer Travis Beacham, a monster movie titled Pacific Rim, "set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace" as the basis for the Godzilla movie. Latino Review later retracted the report that the Pacific Rim script would be used as the basis for the new Godzilla movie.
We just finished watching Full Metal Jacket (1987 - one of Stanley Kubrick's last films) in English class. I think I'm traumatized. I don't really like war movies in the first place but our unit was about war so we watched it. God, the part when Private "Pyle" goes psycho scared the shit out of me. As did the ending with the teenage girl-sniper. But I guess it goes to show you how messed up war is.strawb3rrykreamさん, you hit nail on the head. It is a very disturbing movie, and frankly quite chilling in exposing how much brainwashing and indoctrination goes on within the world of war. Not all wars can be avoided, but glorifying war should be always be avoided.
The LXD's Jon Chu Reportedly Set to Direct Paramount's 'G.I. Joe 2'http://www.firstshowing.net/2011/the-lxds-jon-chu-reportedly-set-to-direct-paramounts-g-i-joe-2/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2011/the-lxds-jon-chu-reportedly-set-to-direct-paramounts-g-i-joe-2/)
We've been waiting to hear who was chosen to direct the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, as multiple candidates have been discussed. Deadline is now reporting that Paramount has decided upon Jon Chu to direct G.I. Joe 2. Supposedly it was between Jon Chu, F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen) and Unknown director Jaume Collet-Serra, who seems to have plenty of other projects. But apparently they like Chu and are "working out his deal" now. He just wrapped Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (even a director's cut) for the studio, directed Step Up 2 and 3D, and is the creator of "The LXD". Yep, he will be taking over G.I. Joe.
As a replacement for Stephen Sommers of the first G.I. Joe movie, he's definitely a step up since that movie was quite a mess, but he's also making his action, non-dance-related debut with this, so let's hope he knows what he's doing. Production will begin in the fall on G.I. Joe 2, which was scripted by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadline says they're trying to get Channing Tatum back, obviously, since he's Captain Duke, but the rest of the cast will have to be pulled back. Honestly, considering I don't care too much about this, I'm curious to see what Jon Chu can do and how this will turn out. We'll keep you updated.
Blade Runner Prequel/Sequel in the works
They don’t have a script, haven’t cast a star, and are still thinking about who to hire as a director. They don’t even know if it will be a prequel or a sequel (or if it’ll have voice-over narration). But Alcon Entertainment, producers of The Blind Side and The Book of Eli, have purchased the rights to make a movie based on the characters and settings of Blade Runner, the 1982 sci fi classic about a replicant-killing cop who falls for a fembot. “We have some ideas that we’re not in a position to discuss yet,” Andrew Kosove, Alcon’s co-CEO, teases to EW. “But from our point of view, the thematic core of the original movie — what does it mean to be a human being? — is even more relevant today than it was when the film came out. After all, we’re living in the industrial age of technology.” Kosove and his fellow CEO, Broderick Johnson, are partnering on the project with Bud Yorkin, one of the producers of the original film. “That picture turned out so well — it’s just been selected for preservation by the Library of Congress — that for a long time I was afraid to try to make another one,” Yorkin says. “But now seems like the perfect time. We just need to find the right writer and director.”
They could always try Ridley Scott, although it’s uncertain if the guy who made the original Blade Runner would even be interested. His rep have yet to return requests for comment, but he’s pretty busy right now making Prometheus, the sci-fi quasi-prequel to Alien starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender.[/size]
I think that both the producer, and director, woke up all wet and hard one day, and decided to put their wet dreams into a movie.
I recommend this sort of action-fantasy-drama-psychological-horror-thriller flick, to twisted teenage horny boys who enjoyed "sailor moon" with napkins instead of popcorn...
Q: I thought it was basically you commenting on those attendants at Comic-Con who shout, “You’re hot!” at beautiful cast members.
A: Yeah! 100%. They don’t know how to be around it. It’s funny because someone once asked me about why I dressed the girls like that, and I said, “Do you not get the metaphor there? The girls are in a brothel performing for men in the dark. In the fantasy sequences, the men in the dark are us. The men in the dark are basically me; dorky sci-fi kids.”
Another 'Rambo: Last Stand' Screenplay Has Been Written, Submittedhttp://www.firstshowing.net/2011/another-rambo-last-stand-screenplay-has-been-written-submitted/ (http://www.firstshowing.net/2011/another-rambo-last-stand-screenplay-has-been-written-submitted/)
He's not dead yet! Even though there have been continuous ups and downs regarding the rumored Rambo V, word is it may be alive in some way. FEARnet (via Empire) recently interviewed writer Sean Hood (Conan the Barbarian, Cube 2) who revealed that he has submitted his screenplay for Rambo: Last Stand to Millennium. Over the years, a follow-up to Sylvester Stallone's 2008 Rambo has been developing in many forms, as a sci-fi film called Savage Hunt at one point, but this is their latest take and who knows what will happen. The good news is that Hood actually met with Stallone to help work on crafting the script.
Empire spoke with Hood as well, who told them, "I met with Mr Stallone twice last year. He gave me a book, an older screenplay, and about twenty pages he'd written himself to use as inspiration for the last chapter of the Rambo saga." He wouldn't divulge any details, but did say "it's more in line with the small-town thriller of First Blood." Very interesting. Hood isn't sure how soon it'll happen, or if at all, but as expected, Millennium is still exploring the idea and getting scripts. "Hopefully, Mr. Stallone will eventually have the time and the inclination to do another Rambo," he says. Hood elaborates on his involvement:
"As of now, I don't know whether Mr Stallone will actually do it. Right now, as I understand it, he has his hands full with Bullet to the Head and Expendables 2. But Millennium films did hire me to complete the screenplay and realise his story, and my hope is that he'll eventually be inspired to do one more Rambo film, with the tone of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven."
Okay, now that sounds pretty damn cool, or at least like it has the potential to be awesome. But of course, with the success of The Expendables, Stallone's hands are full elsewhere, he's even moved on to other action projects. Speaking of which, in the FEARnet interview, Hood mentions this, too: "I also did some rewrites on another Robert E. Howard project, which will hopefully be propelled into production by the success of Conan. I've also done several original drafts of an upcoming Hercules film." Success is yet to be seen - this very weekend - but interesting to hear there's a lot going on (and this guy has a lot of work). I'm most intrigued in Rambo, as I'd like to see that work out, but who knows if it's any good.
I ended up seeing this movie Tangled the other day and holy shit where did this come from!? It was INCREDIBLY entertaining. Dare I say..... better than Toy Story 3 and How To Train Your Dragon??
'Dumb and Dumber 2' filming this year, with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels
Peter and Bobby Farrelly have been quietly developing a sequel to "Dumb and Dumber" for awhile now.
Back in October, we heard that Sean Anders and John Morris -- the comedy screenwriting duo behind "Hot Tub Time Machine" and "Mr. Popper's Penguins" -- were hard at work on a script. That was the last bit of news about the project...at least until this weekend, when Peter Farrelly dropped a Twitter-imploding bombshell in the middle of a "Three Stooges" press junket.
"We're getting set to shoot Dumb and Dumber 2 in September," the director told ComingSoon.net. "We've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back."
Farrelly may have jumped the gun a little bit -- a source close to the production tells EW that the film is "moving along, but it's not greenlit yet." It's hard to imagine a green light is too far away, though -- following last week's announcement about the impending arrival of "Anchorman 2," this feels like the moment for long-awaited comedy sequels. (Also: Is this a big day for Jeff Daniels, or what?) (http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/03/showbiz/movies/dumb-dumber-2-farrelly-carrey-ew/index.html)

In the live action/CG-animated comedy, he tells the story of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish...and has refused to leave his side ever since.
Can't wait to see this
If any on you ever have the opportunity, do make sure you catch a proper 70mm screening of ... well, anything. I'm lucky enough to live in a city that has a wonderful (MAGICAL) film institute/museum/cinema. They do regular screenings of all sorts of films (focusing on old classics, foreign films, art house, independent films, etc). Every year they do something called The 70mm Festival. 70mm refers to the actual film format of course. I've never had the opportunity to go in previous years, so this year I've taken time out of my schedule to attend a couple of these screenings.
I went and saw the 4 hour epic Cleopatra from 1963 last night, and holy shit. It was one of my most memorable cinema experiences to date. I can not wait to see the rest of the festival films I've bought tickets for.

Maybe once a month we would go and check out something.

I got the chance to see 2001: A Space Odyssey in the original 70mm Super Panavision a few years ago and yea, it's amazing. Adds so much depth to a film, especially something so visually striking like 2001 or Cleopatra. The 3D movies I have seen don't come close. I think there was also showings of Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm for the 50th anniversary last year but I missed it. :(^
I wish I could finish it, because I thought it was an interesting set-up and everything, but... no, I simply can't go back.
Anyone have any films they just haven't been able to finish?

I don't think I have done that. I try to finish it, maybe....there's times when I watch half then leave it for later.
Twist! M. Night Shyamalan Ghost-wrote "She's All That"FULL ARTICLE LINK - http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Twist-Night-Shyamalan-Ghost-Wrote-She-All-38023.html (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Twist-Night-Shyamalan-Ghost-Wrote-She-All-38023.html)

After cinematic atrocities like The Village, The Happening, and The Last Airbender, writer-director M. Night Shyamalan became such a joke to the degree that his name on the trailer for Devil--for which he earned a story credit—got laughs from moviegoers across America. Little wonder then that Columbia Pictures carefully hid his writer and director credits on the marketing for the Will Smith/Jaden Smith vanity project vehicle After Earth. But doing press for the picture, the twist-obsessed filmmaker has revealed something truly shocking: he was the ghostwriter for popular 1999 teen-centered rom-com She's All That.
Speaking with Movies.com, Shyamalan spoke about his range, and then admitted that The Sixth Sense (which he wrote and directed) and Stuart Little (which he has a screenplay credit on) were not the only 1999 movies he worked on. After teasing he'd ghost-written a movie that year as well, he confesses:Quote"I ghost-wrote the movie She's All That. "Cue the string section to score this stunning reveal! You mean to say that R. Lee Fleming Jr., the writer of the Kirsten Dunst/Sisqo rom-com Get Over It was not the film's sole scribe! Our world is forever rattled!
Ben Affleck is the new BatmanFULL ARTICLE LINK - http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2013/08/22/ben-affleck-to-play-batman/2690301/ (http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2013/08/22/ben-affleck-to-play-batman/2690301/)

Ben Affleck will replace Christian Bale as Batman in the highly anticipated Batman-Superman movie that's scheduled to be released on July 17, 2015.
Warner Bros. made the announcement on Thursday.
Affleck, 41, will star opposite Henry Cavill's Superman in the as-yet-untitled film, which was unveiled in July at Comic-Con. It's a sequel to this summer's Man of Steel, a re-imagining of the superhero's origin story that also starred Cavill and has pulled in more than $650 million worldwide since its June release, according to The Wrap.

Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will reprise their Man of Steel roles in the sequel, which is expected to begin production in 2014.
"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman," director Zack Snyder said in a statement. "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retains the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."
Affleck, who recently starred in and directed 2012 best-picture winner Argo, has previous experience in those superhero tights -- he played Marvel Comics' Daredevil in the 2003 film of the same name and starred as troubled 1950s Superman actor George Reeves in 2006's Hollywoodland.
To me, Ben Affleck isn't and won't be the problem of the forthcoming movie. It'll be Zac Snyder. If anything, I hope Ben provides some directing tips.

Old school stop motion animation
Saw American Psycho for the first time. Man what a oddly goofy movie. The whole late 80s early 90s aesthetic isn't something you see often outside of movies that came out then.
