Beastie Boys

Official Site | Wikipedia

Beastie Boys is an American hip hop group from New York City. The group comprises Michael "Mike D" Diamond, Adam "MCA" Yauch, and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz. Since around the time of the Hello Nasty album, the DJ for the group has been Michael "Mix Master Mike" Schwartz, who was first featured in the song "Three MC's and One DJ". Beastie Boys began as a hardcore punk group in 1979, and appeared on the compilation cassette New York Thrash with Riot Fight and Beastie. They switched to hip-hop with the release of their 12" single "Cooky Puss", which was followed by a string of successful 12" singles and their debut album Licensed to Ill (1986), which enjoyed international critical acclaim and commercial success.

The group is well-known for its eclecticism, jocular and flippant attitude toward interviews and interviewers, obscure cultural references and kitschy lyrics, and for performing in outlandish matching suits. They are one of the most well-known hip-hop acts worldwide and continue to enjoy commercial and critical success in 2009, more than 20 years after the release of their debut album. On September 27, 2007, they were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On February 3, 2009, the group released a digitally remastered version of their second full-length album Paul's Boutique for its 20th anniversary.

Beastie Boys Reveal Hot Sauce Details

The Beastie Boys have sent an info-jammed email out to their supporters, laying out the next few months of activity. First, they'll continue with their project of reissuing their old albums. Ill Communication is out July 14, and Hello Nasty is due on August 25. Also, the New York trio will play an intimate show at Chicago's Congress Theatre on August 6, just two days before their headlining set at Lollapalooza. Also, according to the Beastie Boys newsletter, "The music industry is saved." We'll have to see about that one.

All that is great, but the part of the email that we care the most about is the part where they talk about their new album. And yes, they've got details. First off: There's been an amendment to the album's title. It'll now be called Hot Sauce Committee Part 1. Also, the LP is due for release on September 15. The tracklist is below.

And yes, this looks like a Beastie Boys album. Previously announced guests Nas and Santigold will both make appearances. And the song titles are vintage Beasties; I feel like I already know exactly how "Nonstop Disco Powerpack" and "Funky Donkey" will sound. (We already know what "B-Boys in the Cut" and "Lee Majors Come Again" sound like.) Odds are "OK" and "Crazy Ass Shit" will be the obligatory hardcore punk bangers, and "Bundt Cake" and "The Bill Harper Collection" will be the Meters-esque funk instrumentals. Prove me wrong, Beasties!

Hot Sauce Committee Part 1:
01 Tadlock's Glasses
02 B-Boys in the Cut
03 Make Some Noise
04 Nonstop Disco Powerpack
05 OK
06 Too Many Rappers [ft. Nas]
07 Say It
08 The Bill Harper Collection
09 Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win [ft. Santigold]
10 Long Burn the Fire
11 Bundt Cake
12 Funky Donkey
13 Lee Majors Come Again
14 Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament
15 Pop Your Balloon
16 Crazy Ass Shit

My all time favorite band! I've been a huge Beastie Boys fan ever since I heard Intergalactic back in 1998. I like pretty much their whole discography and Hello Nasty is my most listened album ever. Needless to say that I can't fucking wait for their new album :yep:

OH SHIT.  NEW ALBUM?  YES PLZ.  I've been a fan for a long time. Def. love Intergalactic and Hello Nasty.  My fave BB album is a toss up between Paul's Boutique and Ill Communication.  what whaaaat?

I fulfilled one of my dreams of seeing them live at VirginFest a few years ago.  It would be great if I saw them in a more intimate venue.

I must say, I was really disappointed with To the 5 Boroughs.  :P

Same here! I was mad excited when I heard that they were gonna release a rap album but it ended up being pretty average. To the 5 Boroughs is prolly my least listened BB album. I do love Ch-Check It Out tho:

I LOVE THIS VID.  That reminds me, any Beasties fan should get the Beastie Boys DVD Video Anthology - Criterion Collection.  Good shit.

OK, glad I wasn't the only one who thought To the 5 Boroughs wasn't all that great.  But yeah, Ch-Check It Out was cool, so was Triple Threat.

Hmm, other random songs that I've loved/still love:
Shadrach
Hey Ladies
Sabotage
Intergalactic
Root Down
B-Boy Bouillebasse

 O0

My personal fave MC?  MCA!!!
