Are Internet Explorer and Firefox ready to do battle with Chrome?

Google announced Monday that it has been hard at work on an open-source browser known as Chrome, a beta version of which will be released in 100 countries on Tuesday.

New features will included "isolated" tabs designed to prevent browser crashes and a more powerful JavaScript engine.

'Runs Google applications better locally', now if Microsoft would do that 'lock-in' with IE :)

BTW being able to drag a tab outside of the window is neat, for some reason I always try that but it doesn't work in IE7 (might in IE8 because there tabs are also independent processes, but haven't tried it yet)

^ thks for the head up; I was fed up to check the blog every hour ...

nice job from google. It does look promising, fast and easy; just hope it won't kill FF

oh see what I have with only 2 tabs opened lol

it's just a beta tho

doesn't seem to work on mine.
About IE8, google took the 'bolded domain name style' in the address bar ( well I guess it's from IE8 )

I love it thus far. It kicks both IE's and FF's ass and God knows how much i love FF3. The potential is unbelievable! My tech penis is cumming!

Love that "statistics for nerds/geeks". :D

First post on Chrome. :D

EDIT: Holy.... this is a fast browser. I'm getting an IRC client and not bothering with Firefox anymore if it keeps up like this.  :inlove:

It's interesting that Google's releasing a browser! I wonder how it'll affect Firefox...the "isolated tabs" sound interesting.

Open source is bound for greatness, but the beta thus far lacks my favorite FF add-on: AB+. I'm sure they'll be something simular very soon tho. Also the Keyword search named "Other search engines" isn't quite as clever as the one if FF. Chrome seems to demand the variable string to be part of the URL. :(

But yeah. If fast has a name, it's Chrome.

Liking it so far, but same as Sev, I'm missing Ad-Block.. Also, don't really like the way bookmarks are set out.. I much prefer to keep them open like I can with FF..

Gave it a try this morning, looks like the render engine is indeed partial like Safari, but why the do I get a Dutch language version ?? I'm using Vista set to US Eglish, region US!
Might retry and see if there is a 'download in other language' but could not find it the first time around.

i'm posting from the new chrome and i find it quite good, it looks fast and you can place your very favorites in a line bar like in safari... but after download realized that is in spanish, not that is wrong i prefer to chose that shit by myself.

... suddenly i have this desire to completely delete the explorer (and the WM that i never use)

You can change the language from the options, which I found out after going the long way about it..

Anyways...

I just started using it yesterday. It's pretty nifty, quite fast and I really like the tabs running individual processes.

No add-ons but still beta, so I don't mind.

posting from chrome.

I like the little extra boost in speed. But the reason I used FF over other browsers was because of the extensions. It's going to be open source so I'm hopeful that it will have a lot of familiar add-ons in the future. In particular a pop-up translator for Japanese like rikaichan.

Just got it so haven't had time to really test it out. The only thing I'm not liking so far is the blue it uses.

looking forward for an official release and being able to change the look. :P

Its based on an older safari so the carpet bombing option is still in effect it looks like:

http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=1843

(and there we thought Apple was slow in fixing that bug)

And also its seems simple to crash the whole browser not just one tab:

http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=1847

But thanks to Guchi_Jnr I can now browse in English :)

And BTW, it seems there was a nice little clause in the EULA:
Quote
The other, and less technical, problem with Chrome exists in its EULA. More specifically, the point that would seem to give Google rights to anything you post on the Internet while using their browser, mostly in conjunction with the promotion of its services.

Which has now been changed a bit so that not 'everything you do with Chrome belongs to Google' :)

Love the "word search" function (Ctrl+f), and how it tells you how many there are on the page, and roughly where they are located..

(that big group at the bottom is my post..  :D )

I think I'll wait and see how it goes rather than get the beta, I'm hoping it'll be amazing though.

Been using it for a day now and I'm pretty impressed. I'm just so used to Firefox though that I could probably never ditch it completely for Chrome. Nothing wrong with it though, handles well and it's as fast as others here have already mentioned.

Downloaded it last week, and I think it's pretty nice, but I'll wait for it to be non-beta before I consider completely switching over.
