Title: Where's the Fishing thread?
Post by: stoneden on January 08, 2006, 12:03:00 PM
Did a forum search and no results in the Sports forum. Come on people, nobody fans of fishing? Sport Fishing in Japan is popular so how come not here?

I wonder if Nacchi has a favorite fisherman or watches fishing shows? Including me, how many here fish?

If you dig, go ahead and make it.

Enlighten us on the topic. I've never fished in my life except for some odd gold fish at the arcade.

Well, I guess there's not a lot of fishing fans here. I'll eventually get back to this subject. Scouring the web on this topic is a bit difficult since I can't read most of the pages.  :(

I like fishing, when I lived in north, I used to go fishing in Norway every summer or get some salmon from river Teno. I also go at least once in a winter ice fishing, usually at my grandparents' place.

I don't anything about sports fishing... I won once an ice fishing competition when i was a kid. I got chocolate for a prize.

I think it takes great skill to catch empty beer cans. You guys must have such great control with your rods.

I used to go fishing when my dad had a big van I would borrow to take to the lake.  Me, Tom_Green, johnbobman, and a few others would go down for the whole morning and catch silver bass and catfish.  We'd throw the bullheads back though.  And catfish can be really greasy, so you just have to cook it the right way!  My mom would make catfish adobo with it, it fuckin' rocked!

Man, I'd love to go fishing again, my Abu Garcia is just sitting around wasting away in its awesomeness.

You guys got like the whole rods and shit? I once saw a guy by the harbor in HK just using fishing line wrapped around a cardboard paper and tossing it back and forth.

A couple friends and I once went to Niagara Falls over Xmas Break.  AT the falls themselves, the fences and trees were completely covered in ice (built up from the mist from the water) approximately 6 cm. (~2 inches) thick.  Suffice it to say, it was hella cold.  Anyway, about 10m from shore, and 50m or so from the EDGE of the Horseshoe Falls (the half on the Canadian side), there was a dude, in those rubber wading pants, FISHING!!!  He had his back to us, and the water was flowing from right to left (3 o'clock to 9 o'clock), and he was throwing his line at about 2 o'clock, letting it go with the flow of the water.

Suffice it to say we're completely amazed by the balls this guy had! I may (note, MAY) have a pic of the guy somewhere, but with the recent move it's gonna be hard to find.  If I do find it I'll definitely upload it here.

Yep. People fish near there (near the entrance to Dufferin Islands) all winter long. Don't know how much they catch though.

HAHA I love that picture!!!  I love to go fishing, I've never ice fished before but I think it would be really fun!  I think my favorite time going fishing was when I went to Alaska and fished for sockeye salmon.  I tell you, nothing is more exciting than fighting a sockeye!!! They jump out of the water and flop all around, they're absolutely beautiful fish!  By the time I was done fishing I came home with a cooler full to the brim of fresh and smoked sockeye.  It was wonderful!

Hahaha, no salmon where I live unfortunately, not enough rivers.  Although I do remember fighting with a carp once, quite the big bitch too, down at Netley Creek past Selkirk, MB.  I remember not feeling a bite for a while, so I started to reel in to check my bait, and that's when he started fighting!  I must have been bent over backwards farther than Neo in the Matrix holding my rod, and in the end, my line snapped, and the carp got away.  A couple of my friends saw it when it was about 7 or 8 metres from the shore, and I kinda saw it too, but not very clearly.  I was fuckin' wiped after that battle though.

That video reminds me of the jumping Chinese carp. When startled by a boat these Chinese carp would jump out of the water and sometimes into the same boat. It's been reported that people have been injuried from these fish that can get really big.

I'm guessing the light the guys were flashing on the water was scaring those fish too.

Here's mine. Mine was smaller than hers so I've covered my face in shame.
