It was complicated.
They both had no recollection of how it started, but it just felt like they always were dancing around each other before they somehow ended up alone together; Kumi had wanted to go to the arcade as did Yuka but everyone else wanted to check out the shops, so they separated into groups and promised to meet up at the Ice Cream shop they always frequented.
After spending nearly half of what they had in their wallets, both girls decided to commemorate their great time by taking some photos before meeting back up with the rest of the group.
It was a bit cramped in the photo-booth so both girls squeezed as close as they could, Yuka swinging one of her arms around Kumi’s shoulders for more comfort. As each photo was taken, the realization of how close they were to each other started to suffocate them.
Through the soft whirring of the machine, both occupants slowly focused their attention towards each other, the small distance they had slowly shrinking even more before warm lips touched.
The loud sound from the machine signaling the final photo being taken startled both girls, separating themselves from each other before slowly exiting the photobooth; an awkward tension hung over them as they waited for their photos to develop, grabbing their copies and finally working up their nerve to look at one another, they realized they couldn’t go back.

Pretending that nothing of significance happened between them proved rather difficult but with everyone so preoccupied with showing off what they had purchased, they were so far in the clear. Though throwing passing glances at each other ever so often didn’t seem to help the growing awkward predicament between them.
Back at their dorm while everyone filed towards their own rooms, both girls lingered behind at the foot of the stairs, still feeling the effects of what happened earlier.
“Kumi… about earlier, I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable and if you want, we can forget about it?”, the second those words left Yuka’s lips, she regretted it so much but what was she to do if everything was just in “spur of the moment”? She was startled out of her thoughts by the other girl’s small yell.
“No! I mean, it’s not like… I don’t want to forget about it…” Kumi trailed off and focusing on the steps they were occupying, Yuka hesitatingly moved closer to the other girl, gently lifting Kumi’s chin to look at her.
Closing the short distance between them, they shared a brief kiss before slowly pulling away.
Opening their eyes, they gazed at one another as a smile broke out onto both of their faces.

That was the start of what they could say was a secret relationship; whenever they could steal as much time alone together; to share a brief kiss or just hold each other, they never said anything to their friends. It wasn’t like they wanted to keep something from them, they just wanted to keep this time to themselves for now.
There was a moment where they were almost caught, saying goodnight to each other, ending it with a quick peck on the lips which quickly switched to a more lasting kiss and nearly giving themselves a heart attack but able to separate from each other when Masana exited out of her room.
Hiding their secret was becoming quite a chore but they would both never admit openly they liked the thrill of “sneaking around”.
It wasn’t until after Jurina had excitedly told of the couple she had saw on her run one morning that they both had decided to try and define what was it they were sharing together.
Sitting on Yuka’s top bunk, listening to the alarm clock on the desk tick away, their hands interlocked, the silence was comforting before someone decided to break it.
“Kumi, can I ask you something?” Yuka quietly inquired while the other girl lifted her head from where it rested on the other’s shoulder, ”Yeah, what is it?”
Hesitating, the older girl decided it was now or never, “What..what is it about me that you like? I mean, why me?” Kumi watched as Yuka slowly shrank into the hoodie she was wearing, grabbing the other girl’s hand that was pickong at her uniform, waiting until she looked up before answering, “Do you remember when we had to play Lacross for P.E. once and when they put you in to play, you were incredibly horrible,” both girls shared a quick laugh before Kumi continued, squeezing the older girl’s hand for good measure,” but you laughed it off and just kept smiling through it all and I guess, I was so enamored by how you were then.” Yuka couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed by that past experience but it was what Kumi said next that shocked her, “…also I couldn’t help but think that, your smile was really beautiful.”
Now, both girls embarrassed by what was said, Kumi decided to try her hand.
“What about me, what do you like about me?”
Gathering her thoughts, Yuka pulled Kumi in for a hug.
“Remember when we were watching that movie in town once? It was pretty bad but we were sitting next to each other and half-way through the movie, you fell asleep,” Kumi let out a small laugh as she tighten her arms around the other girl’s waist, “I remember thinking how incredibly lovely you looked.”
Extremely embarrassed now, both girls just laughed out loud in the empty room, falling against the pillows prop up against the wall of the bunk bed.
As their amusement died down, they gazed at one another, sharing what would have been a brief but soon became a heavy kiss with Yuka hovering over the younger girl. Whatever that may have come after was interrupted by loud chattering from the hall before the door swung open, the only two occupants in the room had quickly separated though hiding their extremely flustered faces from their friends.

It was getting close to curfew, but everyone wanted to see the view from the point at the hill. To Kumi and Yuka it was the perfect time for them to finally admit to their friends that they were and are dating.
After almost being caught a couple of weeks ago, they decided that it was best to not hide it any longer, they preferred having their moments without the potential heart-attacks.
The view was always beautiful from and for the girls, one of their favorite parts about this town, they always tried to make the time to come to the area whenever they could as a group.
Seeing the city lights against the night sky was such a breath-taking scene, as everyone was busy being captivated, a certain couple were busy psyching themselves up for their small announcement.
After spending some time admiring the view, the girls decided it was time to hurry on back before curfew ended or they would have to have their ears yakked off by their DA.
It was now or never.
“Hey guys.” Everyone stopped leaving to focused on Yuka and Kumi, who looked a bit uneasy.
Taking a small breath for reassurance, Yuka continued, “You see, me and Kumi… we’ve.. we’re.. uh..” “We’re dating.” Kumi quickly in, seeing her girlfriend falter as both girls awaited their friends reactions.
“Oh, we know.”
“What?”
Perplexed by this new set of information, both girls sported the same goofy look before Rena decided to save them.
“We already kind of knew, it was obvious a little, we just figured you guys wanted to wait until you were comfortable enough to tell us.” She finished with a small shrug of her shoulders, the rest of the girls responding with their own sets of agreements and nods.
Yuka, being the one more flabergasted by this turn of events had only one thing to say, “Oh, how anti-climatic, I nearly lost 10 years off my life from that.”
Everyone couldn’t help but burst out laughing at the older girl’s disappointment.
“Hey, I have a question.”
Turning to the youngest of the group, Nanako stared questionably at the couple.
“I want to know how do you kiss another girl cause there’s a girl in my class that I think is really cute and I want to kiss her but I don’t know how to—” Manatsu quickly stopped the torrent of words flowing out of Nanako’s mouth as Kumi and Yuka stared at the younger girl, baffled at the current situation thrown at them.
“I think it’s best to ask them another time, NanNan.” Manatsu hastily explained before removing her hand, giving her friends a small apologetic smile.
Churi turned to the couple haugtly, “It was bad enough when we had to explain to her what you two were up to alone, now this, you guys better explain to her instead this time.”
While everyone laughed off at Churi’s comment, both girls sported deeply flustered faces all the way back to their school dorms.
