Swing Girls (2004)
Ueno Juri, Hiraoka Yuta, Takenaka Naoto
Dir. Yaguchi Shinobu

Man, Japan is master of the feel-good, rags-to-riches cinematic fable.  Harmless, suitable for families and silly, good fun.

Ueno is also one of those fresh faces that's totally ingratiating: it's impossible NOT to root for her and her comrades.  The resolution goes beyond the realm of reality but who cares?  The good guys win, the not-so-good people are swung (no pun intended) to the right side of the tracks and it turns out that the actors performed ALL the music in the movie.

Also interesting is the Northern Yamagata dialect that almost everybody in the movie drawls.  I swear, it was as cute as Nacchi's Hokkaido-ben.

I watched Swing Girls last year, great movie.

Mirrormask

I was really looking forward to see this movie... and then fell asleep (to top that off: on a Chocolate Chip on the sofa, what a mess)
Missed half of the movie, but story wise it wasn't that great anyway but the visuals were interessting.

Exceeded my expectations! Go watch it now ~ And don't worry, it's normal to feel hesitant on connecting to the internet again after watching it, haha.

Death Of A President

While technically brilliant and looks almost completely genuine, it didn't live up to what I imagined it would be about. I was thinking about how the assasination would have global or political reprecussions, but instead the "documentary" focuses on the actual assassination and the investigation afterwards to bring the perpretator to justice. Think of it as a murder thriller but without the brooding detective or romantic love interest.

In fact, despite all the media backlash against it, the movie very clearly advocates the assassination of President Bush. There's no real reason to feel threatened by the movie, it's responsible and observant of current affairs and certainly doesn't give anyone any ideas they haven't already had.

last move i watched was "Jet Li's (Fearless)". It's supposed to be his last movie, which is too bad because the movie was tight as hell. If you haven't seen it, and you like kung-fu movies; i recommend this movie. You can't go wrong with Jet Li + its his last film, so you might as well get off you a$$ and check it out. DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!

To be honest, I don't want movies that often. I downloaded this one from the JPHIP-tracker.

Just watched the new "Sukeban Deka" yesterday. I'm still basking in the afterglow.

Also caught a great movie on DVD called "Brick". Catch it if you get a chance. Terrific homage to classic Film Noir but set in a modern high school.

I've seen three movies over the past three days, so from the most recent to the least recent of those movies~

Break-Up
Just Friends
Just My Luck

Just My Luck was really cute! I thought I wouldn't care for it that much, but I really really liked it! Yay for chick flicks!
