Born in Niihama, Ehime, Japan, she began to train enka when she was five years old.[1] In 1993, she released Compact Cassette single "Tsugazakura" (つがざくら lit. "Phyllodoce Nipponica"?) as "Nana Kondo".[2] However, she eventually became a popular seiyū singer.[1]
Her debut single as Nana Mizuki, "Omoi", was released on December 6, 2000. Her 2004 song "Innocent starter" became her first Top 10 single and her 2005 single "Eternal Blaze" reached #2 position on Japanese Oricon weekly single charts.[1] She won the "Best Musical Performance" award by her song "Justice to Believe" in the first Seiyū Awards in 2007. Her 7th album Ultimate Diamond made her the first seiyu to reach the #1 position during the week of June 15, 2009 in the Oricon weekly album charts since its creation in 1968.[3] Ultimate Diamond sold over 74,000 copies in the first week, outselling the popular hip-hop band, Black Eyed Peas' album, The E.N.D., by over 20,000 copies in Japan.[4]
Many of the characters whom she has voiced were initially very shy/soft-spoken (however, after interactions with other people, they gradually opened up (e.g. Fate, Lili, Nyamo, Hinata, and Wrath), six of her characters have romantic feelings for the main characters (e.g. Oboro from Basilisk, Hinata Hyūga from Naruto, Colette Brunel from Tales of Symphonia, Tamao Tamamura from Shaman King and Moka Akashiya from Rosario + Vampire), some of her characters craved maternal attention (e.g. Fate Testarossa from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and its sequels A's and StrikerS, Wrath and Maria), and she was also part of the seiyu quartet "Prits", alongside Yumiko Kobayashi, Natsuko Kuwatani and Hisayo Mochizuki (all four voiced characters in the anime Sister Princess).
Nana Mizuki's live musicians are called "Cherry Boys".

Nana Mizuki is 1st Seiyū with #1 Single in Weekly Charts
29-year-old Nana Mizuki has become the first seiyū (character voice) with a #1 CD single on Oricon's weekly singles chart in Japan. Mizuki's 21st single, "Phantom Minds," sold 54,000 copies during its first week of release this past week. No other seiyū has ranked that high since Oricon began posting its charts in January of 1968. "Phantom Minds" is the theme song for the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st anime, in which Mizuki reprises the character Fate Testarossa. This film remake of the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha television anime will open in Japan on January 23.
Mizuki's Ultimate Diamond did reach #1 last June — another record for a seiyū — but on Oricon's weekly album chart. With "Phantom Minds'" #1 ranking, Mizuki beat her own previous record high of #2, which she first earned with her "Eternal Blaze" song in 2005. Her "Shinai" song also debuted at #2 on the weekly singles chart with 42,630 copies last January, and 2008's "Trickster" single similarly reached #2 with a personal high of 57,201 copies. Last month, Mizuki debuted in Kōhaku Uta Gassen (Red and White Song Battle), the New Year's Eve singing contest that is Japan's most viewed music television program.
Before Mizuki, Megumi Hayashibara held the record for the highest ranking CD single by a seiyū with her #3 song, "Northern Lights," in 2002. The other seiyū who have reached #3 are Maaya Sakamoto (2008's "Triangler") and Aya Hirano (2009's "Super Driver").

Since her single “ETERNAL BLAZE” in 2005, Mizuki has had seventeen consecutive top ten singles. “TIME SPACE EP” puts her just one top ten single over voice actress Hayashibara Megumi, who held the previous record with sixteen top ten singles.
This isn’t the first record Mizuki Nana has broken during her musical career. Mizuki was the first voice actress to achieve number one on Oricon’s album charts in 2009 with her album “ULTIMATE DIAMOND“, as well as the first to reach number one on the singles chart with her 2010 hit “PHANTOM MINDS“.

Nana Mizuki Scores 20th Top-10 Single
Singer and voice actress Nana Mizuki's 30th and most recent single "Kindan no Resistance," which shipped on October 15, sold approximately 40,000 copies to rank at #5 on Oricon's weekly singles chart. The single is Mizuki's 20th single to rank in the top 10 on Oricon's weekly singles chart.
The single contains "Kidan no Resistance," which is the opening theme song for the Cross Ange television anime series; "Blue," which is the ending theme for the Uchū Senkan Yamato 2199: Tsuioku no Kōkai (Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Voyage of Remembrance) compilation film; and "Dream Rider." Mizuki's official YouTube channel is now streaming the full music video for "Kidan no Resistance."
