Umechan’s POV
Another boring school day. Walking under the sun really hurts my skin. My black umbrella has done a great help to me.
In a few minutes time, I arrived at our school.
It will be easier for me if I’m unsociable. No one will notice.
My classmates don’t speak with me unless it’s school-related stuff.
Teacher’s still not around. I pretend to read a book… When I felt someone walking towards me.
“Why?” I asked without looking at her. I don’t even know who she is.
She didn’t speak, but remained standing there.
I looked at her.
Ah. Oshima Yuko, the popular girl.
“Umeda-san… Do you want to join our karaoke party tonight?” She smiled.
“No, thank you.”
I thought she will go away.
“Please?”
“Why?”
“Uhm… I… I want you… to be my friend.” She stuttered.
I didn’t answer. I pretend to read the book again. Finally, she left.

Lunch time. Ah… I need to satisfy my thirst.
While my classmates and other students usually eat inside the classroom, I sneak and go to the rooftop.
Ah… At last I’m alone! A smile escaped my dry lips.
I opened the small vial I hid in my pocket.
I smelled it… And drank it…
Mmmmm…
My fangs suddenly appeared. That red liquid was a chicken’s blood. I never wanted nor even tried to drink human blood.
“Umeda-san!”

Oh no! Oshima. What would I do? I can’t let her see me like this…
But before I’ve thought of what to do… She was just a step behind me. I can feel her.
“Don’t try to touch me.”
But she did.
Suddenly, I faced her.
We were both shocked of what I did. She saw my fangs and blood-stained lips.
“You – you’re a vam—pire.” She was really nervous and scared. She ran away.
I can’t let her go. I need to do something!
I appeared before her… She stopped and stepped backward… but she just stumbled on the floor.
I went towards her.
“Don’t be afraid. I won’t drink your blood… But really… It smells nice.”
I smirked. She was speechless.
“Oh this? Chicken’s blood… Now you know why I would never want to join your karaoke party…” I let out a laugh.
She looked down.
“Now… I understand.” Her voice was shaky.
“Are you afraid?”
“No.”
She looked up. Our gazes met. She’s crying… But why?
“Why are you crying?” I asked her.
“You know, I like you. I really really like you! No matter who or what you are… that won’t change anything!”

“What?”
“Does it hurt?” She asked while pointing at my fangs.
“No. I’m used to it… But maybe if I bite you… You’ll be hurt! Haha. Just kidding.”
“Wow. This is the first time I saw you smile and laugh.”
My fangs disappeared now. We remained silent for a minute or two.
“Will you keep, everything that happened today, as a secret?”
She nodded.
“I trust you.” She told me. I returned a smile.
I helped her stand up… She’s walking behind me… When she suddenly stopped.
“Hm?” I stopped walking, too.
“What I said earlier… I mean it.”

I started walking again, trying to absorb what she just said.

Few weeks passed. Yuuko and I became closer to each other. She helps me sneak during lunch time… She is my first friend. The only one who understands me – who knows who I really am.
Whenever I’m with her, I feel happiness. My heartbeat is abnormally fast. I’m usually ice cold, but when she’s around, I feel some warmth inside my heart – warmth I’ve never felt before. I think… I’m falling in love.
We are supposed to meet tonight at my house for dinner.
It’s already 8pm… but where could she be?
‘Kkkyuuuraaa! Heeeelp!’ Is that Yuuko’s voice? Oh no!

Yuuko’s POV
Kyura – my Kyura! Where are you? Help me… Please… Save me!
“Kkkyuuuraaa! Heeeelp!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, hoping she’ll hear me.
Someone grabbed me and pushed me to the ground.
The other one tied my hands.
“Hello, Miss beautiful…” He caressed my face… He moved his face closer… He’s trying to kiss me… I spit on his face!
“Ah! How dare you!!” He was in the act of hitting me… I shut my eyes, waiting for his assault.
Kyura! Please save me!
“Don’t you dare touch her…or I’ll kill you.”
O///O
“You came!”
“Of course I will.”
She knocked the first one to the ground. She smirked, showing off her fangs.
“Vampire!” The other man shouted. He tried to assault her but all his efforts were useless.
He ran away.
“Thank you…” She untied my hands.
“Did they hurt you?”
“No… Because you came just in time.”
She looked at the man lying on the ground.
“Sorry… But that’s for touching her with your filthy hands.”
She looked at me.
“Let’s go? Bet our food has already gone cold.”
We are about to leave… when she grabbed me and embraced me tightly.

No…
The other man who ran away a while ago… he struck her with a wood… from behind her… that was supposed to kill me… but… she saved me again.
The man ran away.
I felt her body rest on mine… I pulled out the wood on her back.
“Are you – okay?”
“Don’t speak… Save your energy… I’ll bring you to the hospital.”
“No… You can’t. He got me. It struck my heart… I – I’m dying.”
“Stop! You can’t!! I haven’t told you everything yet… Maybe there’s something we could do.” I started crying. She smiled and touched my face with her hand.
I remembered one time when she told me… that she’s very weak compared to other vampires… because she don’t drink human blood.
“Here. Please drink my blood.” I moved my neck towards her face.
“I love you, Yuuko.”

“I want you to… promise me one thing… Promise me that you’ll never forget about me.”
I nodded. My tears fall on her face.
“I love you very much, Umechan… You’re my Kyura… Thank you for everything.”
I got the wood and wounded my chest…
“I promise that I will never forget you… This wound will turn into a scar, it will always make me remember you.”
Her body began to turn into ash.
“Thank you… I am always here… Watching you from somewhere faraway… Good bye. I love you, Yuuko.”
I leaned in for a kiss… I still felt her cold lips, but after a few seconds… She turned into ashes.
I cried hard.
I screamed.
I collected her ashes and threw it on the river.
I cried all night, thinking of what happened…
Why did you leave me this early? If only I had more time to be with you… Now… I can never be with you…
Surely, I will miss you – your smile, the way you look at me whenever our gazes meet, your voice, everything about you. I will definitely miss you.
I can’t stop crying.
You will always be my savior; my friend; my sister; my love; and my pain…
