A/N: First attempt at writing a fic! I apologise for the generic theme of the story but I’ve based it on a song, which is also where I stole the title from. Also a big thank you to the people that helped me out

Prologue

The tranquil street was lined with auburn trees all slowly swaying in the wind, waving goodbye to the leaves. These leaves were the very same ones that gave the towering existence such wonderful life and vibrancy; yet every year, when it reaches its most beautiful prime, it is simply let go. Released to gradually flutter down to the ground, its final resting place where it would be forgotten beneath the footprints of the distracted students. However some may escape such a lonely end and instead be saved by the pPosterioring breeze, left to dance together in complete ignorant bliss of the melancholy fate that the others have suffered from.

I stood there, a solitary statue amidst the swirling shards of ruby, leaning against the grey stone walls of my school gazing up at the lone cloud drifting across the crimson sea in an attempt to pPosterior the time.

“Hey, Jurina!”

I peered round the gate to notice two figures emerge from within the school; one of them had their slender arm outstretched franticly waving towards me. As Rena hurried closer I could see the goofy grin across her face mouth something at me but I was busy trying to work out who the other girl was. She was just taller than Rena and they both had the same dark black hair except the stranger’s raven locks flowed down beyond her shoulders and over the cute maroon scarf that was cuddled closely to her warm rosy cheeks.

“I’m so sorry we took so long Jurina.” Rena spoke up as she approached me.

“No worries, it wasn’t that long a wait but er…” I gestured toward the other girl “Aren’t you going to introduce her?” It was then that I noticed both the girls’ faces turn bright scarlet as they shared sheepish glances at each other.

“Well…erm…” Rena stuttered before announcing “Yuki this is Jurina…” She took a nervous pause “and Jurina I’d like to introduce you to Yuki, my girlfriend…”

A/N: I apologise for it being extremely short and poor but I was eager to get started once I had the idea  :nervous

nori! When you said you got some work in progress, I wasn't expecting you to post it so soon! Anyway, it's a great first attempt at writing a fic. I like what I'm seeing so far. You've painted a nice imagery in the first paragraph which helps to set the melancholy tone of the story right from the get-go. Love your choice of words ("solitary statue," "grey stone walls" and "lone cloud drifting" all in one sentence) to emphasise how alone/lonely Jurina is and will probably be.

Keep up the good work :twothumbs and while you are excited to post this prologue/teaser, don't keep your readers waiting too long for the first chapter! XD

Can't wait for the first chapter!!!

@seigus: I hope this wasn't too long a wait  :nervous Thank you so much for your kind words and as for Jurina well she isn't exactly lonely at the moment but I didn't build up that melancholy picture for no reason so you'll just have to wait a little while first  :)

@kahem: Here it is! Hope you like it!

@Hitobo: Ah you went for the grey wall did you? What you're thinking isn't wrong but there's actually a more important metaphor in there, unfortunately I can't tell you ;) I've taken in to account everything you told me so hopefully this is slight better now  :nervous Thank you so much for the awesome suggestions

A/N: Hello again guys here's my first ever chapter :) It's a bit of a slow start with very little drama and there's a scene that you guys will recognise but still I hope you enjoy it. As for the next chapter it may take me a while to get it done, cursed exams , but I'll get it done as soon as I can. I also feel inclined to say that each chapter is named after a line of the song or a slight variation.

Chapter 1 ~ いつもの帰り道~The Usual Way Home
---
I stood there on the dimly lit field with a black and white sphere gripped tightly in my hands, preparing to strike. I daintily place the ball on the grass, taking 1… 2 steps away at a slight angle to my left. Precision is everything. I shut my eyes, focusing on the image of the immovable wall standing between me and my target. I feel a lone bead of sweat trickles down my left cheek.

“Top right” I mutter as I step forward and unleash the wrath of my foot onto the ball causing it to pierce through the air with an all mighty force. The ball reached its destination in no time at all, almost ripping a new hole in the top right corner of the net. “Get in!” I shout punching the air with my fist. “Just one last lap and then I’m done.” I told myself as I began my final jog of the morning.

Having finished training I entered the changing room; immediately removed the sweaty clothes that were clinging onto my body and turned on the shower, the chilled water splashing onto my short messy hair before forming a waterfall over my pale back.

As I cooled down under the constant flow of water I began to reflect on previous training sessions, how I could be even better. The semi-finals of the “inter-high cup” are fast approaching and I have to be ready for it. As the ace of the soccer team I have to be prepared to carry the team at the biggest stage, in front of the entire school.

My thoughts were interrupted by a sudden loud ring which echoed through the empty room. “Crap, I’m gonna be late!” I hurriedly put on my uniform and rushed out the door. After sprinting up several staircases and through countless hallways I finally reached the door reading class 1-B

“Matsui Jurina” A voice called from beyond the door.

“Just in time.” after breathing a sigh of relief I slid open the door and replied “Present.”

“But your late, so don’t bother coming in.” Shinoda-sensei retorted in a dry tone “Also while you’re out there sort your hair out Matsui. You look as if you’ve been dragged through a car wash.” At this point several students were struggling to stifle their laughter. In front of an empty desk and right beside the windows a particular slim girl with black shoulder length hair had both hands clasped over her mouth ssexy beasting away at the monotonous remark. The empty desk is where I should be right now and the girl holding back her laughter is my best friend Matsui Rena; though some friend she is right now.

・・・

“So what is it like, being dragged through the car wash?” Rena gleefully teased me.

“Hahaha, you’re so hilarious Rena.” My reply filled with sarcasm. “Anyway you know exactly why my hair was dripping wet.”

“Of course I do. It’s your bad habit of tipping buckets over your head right?” The stupid grin still plastered across Rena’s face.

“Never mind,” I sighed knowing a lost cause when I see one “let’s just go grab lunch.” I got up and made towards the door.

“Wait!” Rena suddenly stopped me in my tracks “Sorry, it’s just I actually have something really important to do.” She averted her gaze down and started to fidget with the hem of her skirt.

“Sure no problem, but you didn’t have to shout the whole school down.” I stuck my tongue out her, as my petty revenge for earlier. “Still, do you want me to grab you the usual?” These words caused Rena’s face to instantaneously light up.

“Really that would be great Jurina!” she leapt up and gave me huge hug. “Well I better get going. See you in a bit Jurina!” she turned and waved at me as she rushed off out the class.

“Well that melon pan isn’t going to buy itself.” I exited the classroom and joined the hordes of shouting swarming towards the canteen.

・・・

Finally I made it out of the battlefield with my spoils of war gripped tightly in each hand. Upon arrival to the classroom I noticed
Rena, her head propped up on her elbow, blankly staring out the window her gaze resting on the pitch.

“Hey” I called out to her “You nervous about the semis as well?”

“Hm...Er...Yeah something like that...” she replied with her head clearly still away in the clouds.

“Hey don’t worry about it I’ll make sure we win. Oh and before I forget…” I reached out and handed her the melon pan “Here the usual good stuff.”

“Thanks Jurina.” she softly lifted the bread out of my hand a small smile forming on her face as took apart the plastic surrounding her treasure.

“By the way what was that thing you had to deal with?” I reached round and brought my chair around to perch down next to her.

“Well about that…” Rena took a pause to lick the crispy crumbs off her lips “After school can you wait for me just outside the gates?” she seemed to be struggling to find the right words “Well I guess, there’s something I want to show you.” She released a huge sigh of relief.

“Sure but—” Before I had a chance to finish a shrieking bell rang out, followed immediately by the cry of “Right you lot hurry up and get to your seats now!” a collective groan echoed through the class as the demon returned. “All of you turn to page 195.” With these words the torturing began.

・・・

Immediately after the rescue bell signalled the end of the day Rena left without uttering a single word to me. Strange, I would’ve assumed that she was depressed over whatever happened at lunch but I could swear I saw a grin on her face only dedicated for her beloved melon pans. So I just followed the surge of students as I made my way to the grey stone wall by the gates and waited.

As I stood there I started to think seriously about my best friend’s behaviour. I’ve known her for almost all my life and not once have I seen her act like this. Is she really that worried about the semifinals coming up? She isn’t the obvious footballing type with her thin stature, cute looks and self-controlled nature but many have shared the field with her making this assumption and all of them have suffered the consequences. Within the confines of the pitch Rena became the resolute pillar that supported the team, for the entire 90 minutes her colossal presence reined terror over any foolish enough to oppose her. We formed the ultimate combo. Rena is the impenetrable barrier demolishing anyone foolish enough to attempt to pass her; I am the flamboyant magician, one moment I’m in front of you blink and the ball is nestled in the back of the net. Our reputation as the double Matsui duo was on the line with the inter-high cup and maybe it had got to her. There was also something strange about her scent at lunch it was a lot fruitier then I had remembered it being.

“Hey, Jurina!”

I heard Rena’s voice from over the wall. I looked around to see her waving toward me as she walked along the path with another girl beside her.

“I’m so sorry we took so long Jurina.” As they got closer I noticed that their fingers were interlocked together and an overwhelming smell of peaches.

“No worries, it wasn’t that long a wait but er…” Rena noticed me glancing toward the stranger “Aren’t you going to introduce her?” The two girls seemed to catch each other’s gaze and quickly averted them.

“Well…erm…” Rena Rena stuttered before announcing “Yuki this is Jurina…” She took a nervous pause “and Jurina I’d like to introduce you to Yuki, my girlfriend…”

“Heh…When… Did you just say…?” My mind was struggling to process the words that Rena had just uttered; I just started pointing my finger at the new girlfriend. “Is this the thing you wanted to show me?”

“Ah…Yeah…” Rena gave a small nod

“This was also the thing at lunchtime?”

“Uh huh”

“Also the reason you were—”

“I’m sorry to interrupt” Yuki finally spoke “but could you possibly stop pointing at me like that? It’s rather disconcerting.” I looked across to witness her dainty features shying away.

“Sorry, I was just a little surprised” I quickly drew my hand to the back of my head, as I grimaced.

“No, no I don’t blame you for being so surprised.” She replied waving her hand. “But I guess we should maybe start heading home? It gets dark really quickly this time of the year.”

“You’re right let’s go” The couple began to head off. Just as I was about to follow I suddenly realized the depth of the situation. Normally I would just walk home with Rena but now she has a girlfriend she’d probably want to walk with her. Rena picked up on my hesitation.

“Come on Jurina keep up.”

“But…Don’t you guys want to be left alone?”

“Huh why would we do that?” Rena seemed confused by my words. “Yuki’s house is on the way towards yours so you’d have to walk the same way as us.”

“Oh, right, well I guess if you’re both cool with it.” I broke into a jog and found myself next to Rena in no time. I glance across to see the new item chatting to each other, Rena completely infatuated with her new lover. I strolled alongside them in complete silence still trying to get my head around everything that had just happened. It’s great that Rena has a girlfriend but you can’t blame me for being so shocked, today is the first time I’d ever known of her existence! She seems to be a nice person but I still worry that she will become a distraction to Rena with the semi-finals coming up.

“Um… Jurina-san, can I ask you a question?” A voice beyond Rena called out

“Huh?” I stumbled over the curve; Yuki’s voice caught me completely off guard. I briskly dusted myself down “Sure what is it?”

“Well I was wondering are you my rival?” Her crescent eyes locked onto me with threatening intensity.

“Why would I be your rival?” I stammered, desperately trying to avoid the vicious glare.

“It’s just that on our way out to meet you,” She briefly averted her eyes allowing me a chance to breathe “Rena kept talking about you and how you’ve known each other since you were 4 years old.”

“Calm down Yuki, there’s no way Jurina is your rival.” Rena placed her hand on Yuki’s head as calm as ever despite her girlfriends sudden accusation.

“Then tell me why” Yuki demanded an explanation

“Sorry I must have forgotten to tell you earlier it must’ve just slipped my mind.” Rena stuck out her tongue to tease Yuki

“Just tell me why!”

“Fine, it’s because Jurina here” She put her arm round my shoulder and dragged me closer “is the world’s worst kisser.” These final words were followed by awkward silence. Then the penny dropped

“What on earth do you mean she’s the world’s worst kisser? Are you trying to say you’ve kissed her?” Yuki pointed an accusing finger at Rena then me, her face accumulating with rage and her eyes becoming increasingly large.

“What are you talking about Rena?” I was just as shocked as Yuki was with Rena’s ludicrous words “We’ve never kissed each other, in fact you know fine well that neither of us have had our first kiss yet!” My desperate defense brought an abrupt end to Yuki’s tirade but not in the manner that I expected. Her face was still bright red but now there was a daft grin stretching across her from the corners of her cheeks “Rena what’s wrong with your girl?” I turned to Rena, only to find that she was sharing the same expression as Yuki, only her face was a darker shade of scarlet. It didn’t take me long to put two and two together

“You’ve been going out for half a day and you guys have already kissed?” Yuki gave a silent nod before Rena spoke up

“It happened just after we confessed our love to each other; it was just too perfect a moment to waste...” Rena’s eyes met Yuki’s and I could hear my heartbeat race in panic. I gave Rena a shove before they drifted away to their own world. “Hehe, I’m sorry about that.” Rena’s face was flushed with embarrassment. “Its’ just those luscious lips are so moist” She was getting lost in her fantasies again “Jurina if you turn out to be half as good a kisser as Yu—” This time a loud thump from Yuki brought Rena crashing back down to reality.

“Stop it Rena it’s really embarrassing talking about these things…” she was hiding behind the bag that had just smacked her girlfriend. “Anyway this is my house” she said pointing to the house on the corner of the street.

“Then I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then Jurina.” Rena waved goodbye

“What do you mean Rena your house is further down the road.” I was puzzled by her words.

“Well actually I invited her round to my house today” Yuki said as she wrapped her arms over Rena's shoulders. By this point I wasn't remotely surprised.

“Well you guys certainly don’t hold back, you’ll probably be getting married at the end of the week at this pace!” I stuck out my tongue at the pair as I backed away from them. “Make sure you don’t have too much fun!” I shouted as I rushed off down the street.

Before returning to my house I decided to take a quick detour to visit the shrine a few blocks away from my house. After climbing up the dirt track up to the shrine, I dropped a coin into the box and rang the bell. I stood there, beneath the rattling bell, inhaling the soothing incense with my hands clasped together in prayer. I opened my eyes and sat down on a boulder beside the shrine and began to reminisce about the experience I shared with Rena 11 years ago at this very place.

・・・

We were both just 5 years old. Rena’s mum was taken ill so her father had to take her mum to the hospital. For that night we took care of Rena but she just never stopped crying. I decided to do something to cheer her up so I grabbed my prized piggy bank and took Rena to the shrine.

“What are we doing here?” she sobbed tears constantly forming in her eyes

“I am going to make your mum better” I proclaimed popping out the cork from the piggy bank and tipping all my coins into the box.

“Jurina your money…”

“Never mind that Rena, make sure you ring the bell so your wish comes true.”

“OK” Rena shook the rope and clenched her hands together as the bells rang out. Rena finally opened her eyes and uttered a single word “Why?” I simply just smiled in reply “It’s because you are the most precious friend in the whole entire universe.”

・・・

Once I returned to my house I immediately greeted my parents with the customary shout of “I’m home” before storming straight up the stairs and leaping onto my bed. I lay there staring at my prized possession perched on top of the shelf. I still collected money in it but I had no idea what I was supposedly saving up for. All of sudden my mobile began to ring out in tune. I reached into my bag to pull out the source of the noise and looked at the flashing screen.

“Strange, it says unknown number” I was completely perplexed as to whom it was calling me but regardless of my confusion I answered the phone.

“Hello this is Jurina speaking.”

“Hello Jurina-san” a recently familiar voice called across the line. “This is Yuki speaking.”

@kurogumi Replying to one comment feels a bit lonely  XD Yes this will be a love triangle but no I have no plans for Mayu to appear as a main character, she may have a small cameo kind of like Mariko-sensei. I hope that doesn't disappoint you  As for Yuki's reason for calling here it is.

Chapter 2 ~君がかけた電話~The Phone Call from You

-

“Yuki-san!” My face froze in disbelief what was Rena’s girlfriend phoning me for “Why are you phoning me? Wait how the heck do you even know my number?” I couldn’t contain my shock as I yelled down the phone.

“Well Rena forgot her mobile at my house and I was wondering if you could tell me her home’s phone number” Yuki sounded really concerned about what had just happened

“Huh didn’t she tell you her number?” It seemed a strange thing not to do.

“Actually she hasn’t…” Yuki’s voice faded out in embarrassment

“Wait your trying to tell me that you guys have already kissed but you don’t know her phone number?” There was a nervous silence from across the line. “Wow, you guys really go about things at your own pace don’t you?” Then a sudden thought crossed my mind “If you have Rena’s phone why don’t you just find the number on her phone?”

There was a loud gasp in my ear “Why on earth didn’t I think of that! Gosh, I’m sorry for bothering you Jurina-san and I should really apologize for the way acted towards you today…”

“Nah, you don’t have to apologize; it should be Rena apologizing for making that dumb joke.”

Yuki still sounded hesitant “You sure you’re just fine with that?”

“Uh huh” I said, needlessly nodding

“Also the thing that Rena said about you and her kissing” I heard her take a large gulp “It’s definitely not true right?” I sensed some anxiety in her voice

“Of course not” I answered reassuringly “That was just Rena trying to be funny and show off in front of you.”

“I’m so glad that was just joke.” There was a huge sigh of relief from Yuki as she continued on “I admit that when Rena started to talk about you I felt a little jealous but you sounded like such a wonderful person. Oh, I’m so happy that we can be friends Jurina. I am allowed to call you by your first name right? You can call me Yuki but would you rather me still call you Jurina-san? Wait a second, we’re definitely friends right? Because we don’t have to be just cause I sai—”

“Time out!” I shouted at my phone I became breathless just listening to her “Please calm down a bit Yuki” I panted

“Ah you just called me Yuki! I’m so happy we can be friends with each other Jurina! It is definitely okay for me to call you Jurina right?” Yuki’s motor mouth just kept firing out word after word, where did she get all this energy from?

“Yuki please just stop talking for a second” I finally managed to halt her incessant flow of noise “You don’t want to be the person responsible for my mental breakdown.”

“Sorry I just got a little carried away” Yuki sheepishly whispered into the phone.

“That’s fine since I’m also happy that we can be friends, just try to slow down a tiny bit otherwise I won’t understand a single thing you say”

“Right, I’ll make sure it won’t happen ever again, I promise.” I immediately thought it was unlikely that she would be able to keep that promise but at least it calmed her down for now.

“Well I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then, and make sure you find Rena’s number in her phone to call her.”

“Ah, I completely forgot about that.” There was a faint slap in the background “Thanks for reminding me Jurina. Also there’s one last thing I need to ask you”

“Sure go ahead and ask.”

“Well it’s a bit of a silly question but where do you think Rena would take me on a first date?”

“A date, before knowing each other’s phone numbers?” I let out a little chuckle “You two must be the weirdest couple in history.”

“Hey stop being so mean.” Yuki complained “Also what do you know about being in a relationship? You even admitted yourself that you’ve never kissed anyone.” I was certain that Yuki’s tongue was sticking out at this point.

“Well about your date” Flustered by Yuki’s words I hastily returned the subject of the conversation back to the date “I’m not too sure. She might take you to the cinema since she mentioned there’s this new film she wants to watch, but why do you need to know? Isn’t a surprise more romantic?”

Yuki responded with a tut “You’re too naïve Jurina.” I sensed a speech was about to follow “You see with the first date you have to give an awesome first impression and to do that you need to perfectly co-ordinate your clothes with the theme of the date. For a dinner date you wou—” At this point I shut my brain down, only vaguely listening to Yuki and occasionally grunting to feign that I was paying attention to what she was saying. “So you’re absolutely sure that it’s going to be a cinema date?”

“Yeah, I guess so.” I didn’t have a clue where Rena would take her

“That’s brilliant I have the 2 perfect outfits! Oh, but that means I have to choose between them now.” The initial joy in her voice faded

“Well er…do you still want my help?” I was kicking myself as I said those words.

“No this is something I have to do by myself as a girlfriend. I’ve also bothered you with all this so I won’t keep you for any longer.” I was relieved that she had refused my offer. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to help, but Yuki had already proven that she knew a lot more about these things than me.

“Right well I guess it’s good night?” I still wasn’t sure if Yuki was done with me.

“Yes, good night Jurina and thank you so much for your help!” She exclaimed before hanging up. After placing my phone on the desk I flopped back onto my bed, exhausted. I lay there motionless, reflecting on the bizarre events that occurred today. My best friend started going out with a girl that she had never mentioned to me, not only that I then get a phone call from that girl asking me for Rena’s number and dating advice! Even after all that, I have remaining doubts over Yuki. Rena is clearly head over heels for her but I wasn’t sure why, well actually that would be a lie since I have to admit that she is pretty beautiful and on further inspection I could tell her body had been blessed in several particular areas... I shook my head free of any developing image. Rena isn’t so shallow that she would date someone purely on looks; there must be something else, a quirk that I’m yet to notice.

I glanced across at my clock; the small hand had gone just beyond 8. I bolted straight up from my bed. I can’t believe I wasted that much time talking to Yuki!

“Jurina, dear. Dinner’s ready.” My mum called from down the stairs.

“Dammit I still have all my work left do.” I sulked on my way downstairs.

・・・

Bang! My head was searing with pain. I opened my eyes to a cloud of dust

“Huh, wha—” I spluttered in panic “I er… Where am I?”

“Hey Matsui” The hairs on the back on my neck shot up “How about I tell you where you should be. The corridor, now” I shuffled away from my desk still groggy from my rude awakening. “Don’t forget the bucket.” I lifted the oversized tin can as I exited the class.
Curse that Yuki! It’s her fault for wasting all that time lecturing me about dates and clothes and stuff. How can someone worry that much about these things? Rounding the corner into the toilet I met eyes with the very subject of my thoughts.

“Yuki!” the metal canister slipped out of my hands “Owww, what the heck are you doing here?” She pointed at the bucket filling with water as her other hand covered her gaping mouth “Ahh, sleeping in class” Yuki only managed a mere nod in reply her eyes waging in a battle just to stay open, serves her right “Same here.” I started filling my own bucket.

“I’m sorry about yesterday” Out of nowhere Yuki apologized “You should’ve just hung up me on me yesterday. It wasn’t fair on you to listen to me drone on yesterday.”

“Nah don’t worry about it, I’m not that bothered” Hell no, it wasn’t! I only had 5 hours sleep cause of that phone call!

“Well thanks to you it only took me 3 hours to pick out a dress.” She lifted her fists proud of her achievement. Wait, is that really something to be proud of?

“Right er… yeah anytime.” I gave an awkward nod worried about what was actually happening in that girl’s head, or maybe it was the lack of activity. “Well I better get going back to class.” I needed to get away before Shinoda got pissed even more.

“Sure let me come with you.” Yuki made an attempt to follow me but her bucket stayed rooted to the floor. “Erm… Jurina could maybe you help me?” I turned to see Yuki giving me the puppy eyes, replying with the roll of my own.

“Here, I’ll take it.” I lifted the bucket up and turned in one fluent motion “Which way is your class?” I asked stepping out of the toilets.

“It’s down this way.” Yuki stood next to me and pointed toward my classroom.

“What are you talking about that’s my classroom, you’re pointing at.”

“Huh, is it?” I stared at disbelief at Yuki’s confused face. Is this girl really this much of an airhead? “Well it’s the one next to it, class 1-A”

“Wait, you’re in the class next to mine?” She replied with a small nod. “Then how have I never seen you before?” I must be as oblivious as her when it comes to noticing things that weren’t related to football. “Anyway here you go” I set the bucket down next to her class.

“Thanks so much for this Jurina.” Yuki dipped her head in apology

“Don’t worry about it; it’s good extra training for me” No it wasn’t it just made my arms are just left aching. I dragged myself a few more steps down the corridor to my room. I sighed slumped against the wall. Thank goodness it’s almost lunch.

・・・

“Hey Jurina let’s go grab some food!” Lunch time had only just started and Rena was already dragging me off to the cafeteria.

“Slow down a bit Rena.” I stumbled along past the door with “1-A” written across it. “Wouldn’t you want to eat with your girlfriend” I bounced off of Rena as she suddenly stopped in the middle of the corridor.

“You’re right but I don’t really want to take Yuki through that hellish café.” Rena was desperate to be with Yuki but at the same time she did need her daily dosage of melon flavored bread.

I let out a huge sigh, I’m going to regret this “Well why don’t you go up to the roof with her and I’ll go through hell for you.”

“Awesome. Thanks Jurina!” Rena immediately entered the class room.

“Wait you accepted it way too quickly.” I was merely shouting at thin air. “Great that’s now two days in a row that I have to endure being kicked around.” I made my way down the stairs grumbling to myself. Soon I found myself at the gateway to hell. Why am I putting myself through all this for those two?

・・・

“Argh, damn that stupid guy and his elbows” I nursed the fresh bruise on my ribs as I climbed the final set of stairs leading to the roof. As I approached the door leading outside, I noticed that it was completely silent up here. Strange, I would have thought Yuki and Rena would have been chatting about something while they waited. Maybe the other two weren’t up here yet. Upon opening the door I realized I was wrong on both accounts. The couple was in fact sat there in front of me with their lips too occupied for any idle chatter between them. The door behind me was slammed back into place causing the pair to separate in shock, both blushing with unease.

“Sorry Jurina, didn’t notice you there…” Rena spoke up first prodding her fingers together.

“Hmm, no I’m sorry for interrupting you.” My face was almost as red as theirs “In fact I’ll just leave you. Here’s your melon pan and—”

“Please stay Jurina; we didn’t realize you would be up here so quickly.” Yuki grabbed a hold of my arm “Plus what kind of breads did you buy?”

“Well, let me just get them out first.” I shrugged off her hand and pulled out three packets from my bag “I bought ann pan, melon pan and curry pan but Rena always has the melon pan so which do you want ann pan or curry pan?”

Yuki frowned “I don’t really like the other—” She was interrupted by her gurgling stomach.

“Sounds like you haven’t got time to be picky.” Rena gave a huge grin, patting Yuki’s stomach “Here, have my melon pan.” She handed her melon pan over to Yuki; my jaw plummeted to the floor. Rena never gave up her melon pan to anyone, ever. “Hey Jurina I’ll be taking the curry pan then.” I was in too much shock to notice the piece of bread slip away from my grasp. “Jurina, you’re not going sit down and eat?”

“Oh, right yeah.” Recovering from the shock I sat down opposite Yuki and Rena, and started to bite away at my lunch. This is all still too strange for me. Is this really my best friend in front of me? This can’t be the very same person who refused to speak to me for a week after I ate her last melon pan. Just how much does Yuki mean to Rena?

“We better get going back to class now” Rena stood up and offered her hand Yuki which she duly accepted “You wouldn’t want to be sent out by Shinoda-sensei for being late again.” Rena had her tongue poking out at me.

“Nah I’ll just stay up here and sleep then she won’t have to send me out.” Yawning as I lay down on the ground, I was just too tired to endure the stupid hags ranting. “Just tell her you haven’t seen me or whatever.”

“Fine, suit yourself then.” I held my eyes open long enough to see Rena spin away with Yuki and shut the door behind them.

・・・

When I finally woke up the sun was already starting to hide beyond the horizon. “Wow I must have been asleep for a while” I reached up to the sky clutching at the air to pull myself up. “Better get going then.” I exploded through the door and rushed down the stairs towards the school hallway.

“Hey Matsui! Stop right there!” Halfway down the hallway I screeched to a grinding halt to see a small body in a tracksuit come marching towards me “You know you’re not meant to be running down the corridors.” She turned her head up to give me a stern look.

“Sorry about that Takahashi-sensei” Bowing as I apologized “But you must be pleased about how fast I was going just then coach!” I gave her a wide feline grin.

“Yeah and what am I supposed to tell the rest of our team when you injure yourself running down the corridor? You know I have to keep you fresh for the semi-finals.” She reached her arm up around my shoulder and started walking me out of the building and took me to the gates. “Make sure you stay fresh Jurina. I understand it’s a lot of pressure but you’re more than good enough to handle it.” She gave me a reassuring pat on the back.

“Will do coach!” I gave her a salute and dashed off into the sunset. The scenery was rushing by me as I sprinted through the streets on my way back to my house. Upon arrival at my doorway my ringtone went off. I took out my phone to see it was an unknown number. “Crap I must’ve forgotten save Yuki’s number.” While holding my head in one hand I answered my phone.

“Hello this is Jurina speaking.”

“Hey Jurina we need to talk now!”

TBC

A/N: For any of you wondering ann pan is bread filled with sweet red bean paste, I think the other two breads are self-explanatory XD

@Yuki88: Just you leaving a comment makes me really happy no matter how long it is

@Minami-chan: Glad you found it interesting and you get to know what happens

@fffff: I always think of Yukirin as a girly type and well Jurina is a good girl now but she gets into trouble soon XD Also I'm curious to know why you think this is unusual but since you say you like it must be a good thing :)

Chapter 3 ~いつから君を気づいていた?~ Since When Did I Notice You?

“So what you’re telling me is that although you had fun on your date it was ruined because the clothes you wore didn’t ‘co-ordinate’ with bowling?”  Having entertained Yuki for so long that I had to leave to eat dinner and phone her back now.

“Perfect, that’s exactly what I mean. I’m so glad you understand Jurina.” Yuki’s voice rang out from my phone.

“Sure I totally understand.” I decided I have to tell her exactly what I think this ridiculous charade “Basically you’re saying that I ruined your first date since it was me who told you the Rena would probably take you to the cinemas. Well I’ll say this now, what on earth were you expecting from me? I’d never talked to Rena about that sort of thing before and I’ll be sure to tell you the day I’m able to read other people’s minds!” My breathing became very heavy; I was panting slowly trying to regain my cool. There was only silence on the other side of the phone until I heard a faint sobbing.

“Jurina…” She was struggling form her words between each sob “I would never think such a horrible thing. I was so happy when you helped me and in the end it was me who chose my outfit not you…” She continued to cry. I should be the one feeling sorry for myself here having to cope with silly requests all while trying to prepare myself for the greatest stage of my life. However I still felt terrible, having made another girl cry.

“Sorry Yuki. I thought you were just phoning so you could complain to me. I didn’t think that you were this sad about your date.” There was something awkward about trying to be sympathetic to someone across the phone line. It’s nothing to do with not being able to talk in a sensitive way to comfort them. It’s just that when I know someone is sad I want to reach out to them, give them a shoulder to cry on, talking into a phone just isn’t enough. Still I tried my best to console the sniffling Yuki. “Hey come on it couldn’t have been that bad.” Still no reply “Look is there anything I can do to make things better?”

“Well there is something…” A small muted response.

“Sure what is it you wanted me to do?” I unconsciously crossed my fingers hoping her request wouldn’t be too crazy.

“Well you remember how you said Rena would take me the cinema since there was this movie she wanted to watch.” Argh, she’s not bringing that back up again is she?

“Look I already said I’m sorry about that, but what was I meant to say?” I began to defend myself from any forthcoming barrage of blame.

“No I’m not blaming you for that. It’s just she mentioned it to me so I went ahead and bought tickets to watch it tomorrow.” She seemed strangely unsure about this.

“Well then that’s great.” I didn’t understand how this involved me “You can ask her to go watch it with you tomorrow.”

“It’s just that’s the problem, I’m way too…” Her voice faded into a low mumble

“Huh what exactly is the problem? I couldn’t hear what you just said.” At that moment an idea came to my head and a grin to my face. “Wait I know what it is. You’re too nervous to ask Rena to go to the cinema with you even though you’ve already kissed her and done whatever else.”

“I’m not nervous about asking her to come with me!” She shouted at me, flustered by my accusation.

“Then what do you need my help for?” I yelled back at her frustrated at Yuki being so difficult.

“Well I bought a third ticket so that you can come but as payment for the ticket you have to invite Rena for me.”

“Why don’t you just do it? You’re going to meet her before I do tomorrow morning.

“Look you are the one that asked me if there was something you could do!” She did have a good point

“Alright I’ll do it but by doing this you’re admitting that you’re too scared to invite her yourself.” I was never going to let Yuki forget this.

“Fine” She was definitely pouting at her phone “I, Kashiwagi Yuki, am too embarrassed to ask my own girlfriend to the cinema. You happy now Jurina?”

“That was excellent Kashiwagi-san” I was having fun teasing her. “So tomorrow morning meet me in the changing rooms so I can take Rena and my movie ticket off of you.”

“Right then I’ll see you tomorrow, Jurina.” She gave a shrill chirp before the phone line got cut. The clock was reading “22:30”

“Better go to sleep now.” I stripped down to my underwear before putting my head thorough an oversized football top, then I buried my head in my pillow and shut my eyes. It’s actually quite sweet that Yuki gets nervous over asking Rena to the cinemas, the two have already kissed each other before and have been on a date before, yet she still got flustered over asking Rena to a movie. Hearing her fussing over something so simple, it was cute. I projected a picture of what Yuki would be like pouting on my eyelids and that was the last thing I saw before finally switching my brain off.

・・・

Water dripping from every inch of my skin I walked across the room toward my uniform ruffling my hair with the towel draped over my head. Door suddenly shook on its hinges and Yuki came bursting in.

“Hey I brought you the tickets Juri—” Not giving her a chance to finish I launched my towel and hit Yuki square in the head. “What the..?”

“Don’t you dare lift that towel off your head!” I roared at the top of my voice “If you do I’ll have some bad news to tell Rena.” The towel nodded trembling at my sudden threats. Having pulled the second grey sock up to my knees I walked over to Yuki and lifted the towel off her head only to find that she had fallen asleep. “Hey Yuki wake…” My voice trailed off as my eyes caught a glimpse of her lips. “So these are the luscious lips that Rena was raving about” I mumbled to myself still transfixed to the soft shade of pink. I found myself reaching towards it wanting to see for myself the touch that drove Rena to be so love-struck. My finger shaking as the space between it and the smooth curve became increasingly close. Shutting my eyes I felt a squishy sensation at the end of my finger.

“Hmmm…” My eyes flashed open to witness my finger pressing into Yuki’s cheek “What are you doing Jurina?” I leaped away to the other side of the room as Yuki woke up confused by my odd actions.

“Me?” I pointed to myself panicking, desperately trying to think up an excuse. “I was doing absolutely nothing. Well not actually nothing but well I… Just ignore me…” I backed away into the corner wishing I could melt away into the shadows of changing room.

“Right then here are the tickets.” She pulled out two slips of paper

“Just leave them on the bench there I still have a few things left to do.” I was still scared by the thought of being near Yuki at this moment.

“Fine well I better get going to class then” Yuki put the tickets down and gave me a confused look as she left the room. I slumped down on to the ground releasing a large sigh.

“What the heck was I doing just then?” Still dazed by my own strange actions I picked myself up grabbed the tickets and set off for class. Just as I got to my class I noticed Rena approaching the door. “Hey, Rena! You’re free after school today right?” I caught up with her getting on with the mission Yuki had just set me.

“Yeah I guess I am, unless Yuki wants to—”

“Well that’s great let’s all go see the film you wanted to watch.” Rena opened her mouth to interject, I didn’t let her. “Don’t worry I met Yuki this morning and she said she would definitely come so here take your ticket.” Having pulled the ticket out of my pocket I shoved into Rena’s hand and entered the class immediately slouching at my desk head buried in my arms, I was just desperate to get this favour over and done with.

“Jurina you haven’t told me what time we’re going to meet up.” Dammit this is the first time I rue sitting so close to Rena. “Also you sure you won’t to see this film?”

“Of course I do it’ll be awesome!” I didn’t even know the name of the film “Since the film starts at 5 so we’ll meet at quarter to. That ok?”

“Sure I’ll make sure I’m not late” Rena sat down to face the black board only to turn back with a concerned look “Jurina are you feeling unwell?”

“No I’m feeling perfect never felt any better.” I faked a sheepish smile. I didn’t feel unwell but I certainly didn’t feel good either, I just needed to be left alone some time to calm down. “Look I’d better shut up otherwise Shinoda will chuck me out of the class again.” I rolled my eyes before averting them away from Rena, she didn’t look satisfied with my answer but thankfully she didn’t pursue the issue any further.

・・・

With school over I headed straight home to prepare for the cinema date with Yuki and Rena. Wait why did I call it date? Well it is supposed to be their date; I’m just being dragged along by Yuki due to her inability to ask Rena on a date. Well I guess I should still try to enjoy the film, maybe this would be a good chance get some ammunition on the couple that way I can constantly tease them. My spirits were lifted by the thought being able to pester the two of them and I started humming away to myself as I sifted through my clothes. Eventually I chose to wear a simple combination of a black top with denim shorts and jacket. After putting on my sneakers I made sure my black knee-length socks were at the right height and grabbed my red knitted hat before setting off out through the door.
Rushing through the streets I looked down at my watch “Crap I’m already late.” I picked up the pace and started to sprint round the last few blocks before arriving at the meeting point only to be greeted by a bemused Rena.
“You tell us to be here fifteen minutes early and hear you are with only five minutes before the film starts!” She started scolding me for my tardiness.

“I’m really sorry guys but if we’ve only got five minutes left then shouldn’t we get going?” I started to head into the cinema deflecting the attention away from my delay. We entered the film room to find that there was no one else there to watch the film. “Guys, it looks like we have a private screening today.” I kicked back in my seat resting my legs on the seat in front of me. Yuki then sat down between me and Rena whispering into my ear.

“Do you have any idea what the film is about?”

“Nope I have no idea but you should, you were the one who bought the tickets.”

“That doesn’t mean anything. Though I do know that it’s called The Woods or something like that”

“The Woods? Kinda sounds a little boring.”

“Guys be quiet the films starting now.” Rena hushed at us and we obediently turned to see the curtains part. As soon as the film started it cut to a gruesome scene of a strange creature devouring the corpse of a teenage girl. I shrieked and grabbed a hold of the nearest thing to me as a deep red fluid splattered across the screen. Keeping my eyes firmly shut I clutched onto something for my dear life. This ‘thing’ that I was holding onto felt extremely warm and soft and my head rested snugly on top of it hiding my eyes from the horrors on appearing on the screen.
The entire way through the film I didn’t dare move myself from this position. I was too scared to watch what was happening in the film but I was also happy with the position I was in, I felt like I was in a safe embrace and there was this wonderfully delicious scent flowing into my head causing my mind to feel a little dizzy. Eventually the movie finished and I peered out through my eye lids to learn the identity of the warmth I held so closely for the past hour. Yuki’s face was directly in front of mine. The very lips I tried to touch this morning, dangerously near my own.

“Kyaa!” I let out a scream and fell over backwards out of my chair whacking my head against the head of another chair. It then dawned on me that I had been holding onto Yuki for the entirety of the film, with Rena sitting beside her. I picked myself up worried about what the others would say.

“Why did you get tickets for that film Jurina; didn’t you know it was a horror?” Rena said just as we left the cinema. “I mean I had fun but I must’ve been the only one since you were too busy crying Jurina and Yuki’s arm was being crushed by you.”

I shyly glanced across at Yuki “I’m sorry about that” She only managed a blush in reply, she clearly found the whole thing awkward and wanted to avoid any interaction with me. “I didn’t realize it was that sort of film.” My eyes were still blood shot from all the tears. I was easily scared by things and I particularly hated horror films. The last time I went to watch one of these with Rena I ended up hiding under the chairs and this time round I managed to end up hugging my best friend’s girlfriend for the whole time. Although I was mortified by this I have to confess that I probably enjoyed it far more than I should have…

“Well you guys I have something urgent to do so I’ll have to go ahead.” Rena turned and waved at us.

“Wait Rena I’ll come with you” Yuki grabbed a hold of Rena’s arm, she must be desperately trying to avoid being with me.

“I’m really sorry Yuki but you can’t.” Rena took ahold of Yuki’s hand and stared into the other girl’s eyes as their faces neared each other’s. Before I knew it they were sharing a deep passionate kiss in the middle of the street. I was hypnotized by the silk lips that were constantly lapping over each other fighting for supremacy over the other. Eventually a winner was declared and a velvet tongue emerged for a split second only to vanish between the other pair of lips. After what felt like an age the two finally separated, a giddy smile appearing on both faces. “Now you’ll let me go?”

“Fine” Yuki pouted “Only if you give me one more.” She leant in and stole another kiss off of Rena.

Rena let out a giggle then turned to me. “Jurina will you walk Yuki home for me?”

“Uh, sure…” Great this is going to be one exciting walk back.

“Well see you two tomorrow” Rena had a new spring in her step as she waved back at us.

“Let’s get going then.” I merely mumbled to Yuki and started to walk ahead of her. Everything about this journey back was uncomfortable, the lack of conversation was killing but to be honest I didn’t know what to say. I could hardly mention the film or Rena to her after my actions today.
“You and Rena have that football match sometime soon don’t you?” Yuki finally broke the silence, I replied with a nod unsure of where she was going with this. “How important is it to you guys?” What’s with her sudden interest? Man she must have been desperate to talk about something.

“Well for me this is the most important thing ever in my life. As for Rena, I’ve being playing with her for as long as I’ve known her so I’d guess it’s quite important.” I gave an honest reply though I probably shouldn’t have made it sound like Rena finds a sport as important as her girlfriend.

“Okay then…” We plummeted back into awkward silence and neither of us made another attempt to talk as we approached Yuki’s house.

“Well I’ll see you later then.” Not waiting for a reply I went to walk off. Without warning I found my arm held back by the delicate fingers that were wrapped around my wrist.

“Thanks for inviting Rena for me I…” At this point time stood still and I no longer heard anything Yuki was saying. Having avoided it all the way back home I was mesmerized by Yuki’s appearance. Her hair rippling in the wind as her pure white dress glowed under the lustrous sun set. Yet amidst all this beauty my gaze was being drawn back to the plump moist lips. An intense thumping came from my chest filling my ears with its clamor. Shivers were sent down my spine, this thrilling sensation scared me. I need to wake up.

“I’m also sorry about today.” I blurted out cutting off Yuki. “I shouldn’t have gotten in your way in the cinema like that but I was just so scared and I just grab—”

“Jurina calm down. I actually thought it was cute that someone so cool like you could be such a scaredy-cat.” My face turned bright red. “Jurina are you blushing?”

“Wha— no I’m not.” It only grew brighter as I got flustered. “It’s the just the light from the sun set!”

“Sure it is.” Yuki rolled her eyes and let out a giggle. “See you tomorrow Jurina!” The door shut behind her leaving me in the middle of the street, a nervous wreck. I rested my hand on my chest to find my heart was pounding.

“Whatever this feeling is, it can’t be good.”

@Minami-chan: It’s too late Jurina is already too in love with Yuki but she won’t feel so bad that she’ll be sick, though she won’t be that happy either.

@kurogumi: Sorry for hiding the JuriYuki in the title I just wanted to keep it a surprise and thanks for always commenting

@ryeangryu: lol I see you’re a big Wmatsui fan but who knows who she’ll end up with

@ChuuuPuffss: This is one of the funniest reactions I’ve seen for this pairing XD I didn’t include it because I wanted to keep a secret, sorry  :nervous

@Yuki88: Yeah Jurina is head of heels over Yuki, though Rena won’t be jealous if she never found out right?

@kahem: lol glad you like it

@DC2805: Thanks, hopefully the event of this chapter can match it

@Chanaline: You like the JuriYuki :D lol you’re the only to mention the YukiRena scene XD

A/N: Only one more chapter left! I'd love to hear what you guys think the ending will be. I'll also take this time to say thank you all so much for taking the time to read my first ever fic and I hope you guys enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it. Well enough of my rambling here is the chapter.

Chapter 4~アイツとのけんか~ The fight with her

The chiming bells resonated through the building as the morning sun shone through the stained glass lighting everything up in a spectra of colour. Down the middle of the room was an aisle lined with a plethora of flowers. An angelic figure was gliding across the aisle towards me; a white veil flowed all the way up from the carpet, shielding her face from my view. I almost fell over in disbelief at the sheer elegance of the beauty that was making her way towards me only to be caught by a pair of arms dressed in black. Looking up I saw Rena wearing the exact same slick black suit as me, her eyes still staring down the aisle. Without me noticing white veil was being lifted to reveal Yuki’s face and a voice came down from the heavens

“Do you Kashiwagi Yuki, take Matsu—”

“I do!” My hand was out stretched in front of me reaching up toward the dull ceiling in my bedroom. Pale light shone through the curtains and the birds were chirping away under the morning sun. I let out a loud groan “Argh, what a horrible dream.” It wasn’t that I disliked what I saw, my jaw still hadn’t recovered from seeing Yuki in a wedding dress; it was more my reaction to seeing her like that was the horrible part. Why am I thinking of Rena’s girlfriend like that? Falling in love with Yuki like this it’s just plain wrong. I stuffed my uniform into my bag, pulled my training jersey over me and took a detour through the kitchen to grab a cereal bar before heading off to school.

Upon arrival I saw Rena jogging around the ground her white breath lingering in the air behind her.

“Hey Rena, what you doing here? We have training after school today.” I started running alongside her; Rena looked a little guilty about something.

“Well I spoke to coach Takahashi and she said if I practised this morning with you I could skip it after school.” I couldn’t believe the words that came out from Rena’s mouth.

“What are you talking about skipping practice the game is tomorrow!” I exploded with disbelief “How can you do this Rena, you know how much this game means to us and your skipping the final practice before it!”

“Look Jurina hear me out, I’m practising now right? And let’s be honest there’s only so much we can do to prepare on the day before the game.” She did have a point; if we weren’t ready by now we didn’t stand a chance “Besides I have something really important that I have to go into Tokyo.”

“Right, wait why do you need to go to Tokyo?” What was so important that it meant Rena had to visit the capital?

“Remember yesterday how I said I had something really important to do” I gave a small nod. “Well I was looking for this present for Yuki but turns put only the shop in Tokyo has it”

“Right and why do you need to get this present for Yuki now? I mean it can wait until some other time can’t it? I know she’s your girlfriend and all but come on tomorrow is special.”

“That’s the thing… Tomorrow is a special day for Yuki as well. It’s her birthday and as her girlfriend I want to make it perfect for her.” At these words I realized why Yuki was asking me about the football yesterday. “That’s why straight after school I’m taking the train to Tokyo so I can buy her a present.”

“Fine, I guess I can’t persuade you to stay, but there’s one condition” I grabbed a ball and threw it to her. “You have to hit the crossbar from here.”

Rena scoffed at my cheeky grin “What you genuinely think I’m not going to hit it from here?” She placed the ball down on the centre circle and glared at me “You know what I’ll do you a special service and hit it twice.” Rena’s foot was still swinging through air as the ball was floating halfway toward its target. A smirk formed across Rena’s face as the ball bounced straight up off the white bar. “Well I’ll be skipping training then.” Rena turned her back on and flashed a wink towards me as the ball dropped back on to the crossbar. “Come on let’s get ready for class” She tapped me on the back as she jogged past me towards the changing rooms.

“Hey wait up” I collected the ball and chased after her into the changing room to find the showers already running. I cast away my clothes and walked straight past Rena in the showers, still disappointed with her decision to skip practice. “Do you really have to skip practice? I mean can’t Yuki just wait a few days after her birthday for a present.” I pleaded one last time to try to persuade her.

“No way Jurina, you know I can’t otherwise she might break up with me.”

“Then let that happen.” The words just fell out of my mouth, Rena’s hand made a fierce contact with my face before I realized the true extent of what I had just blurted out.

“What the hell Jurina, you’re not seriously saying I should risk my relationship with Yuki just so I can go to football practice.” Rena’s hand was still glowing from the force she used to hit me.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying you should do.” I yelled back at her still nursing my left cheek.

“I’m not going to break up with Yuki just because of a stupid sport that you’re obsessed with!” I followed Rena out of the showers, the water pounding harder than ever on the tiles.

“Dammit Rena just forget about her and focus on what’s more important!” Rena pulled on her clothes and marched towards the door.

“That’s exactly what I’m doing! I’m focusing on my girlfriend even though I’ll be playing in a pointless match on her actual birthday!” I hurled my boots at the door narrowly missing Rena.

“This pointless match is far more important than your girlfriend’s stupid birthday!” How can she be so dismissive of such an important game?

“Oh so she’s my stupid girlfriend now?” She flung the door open with such anger that it almost flew off its hinges. “It’s a shame Jurina; I thought you might have actually liked her.” There was a hint of sadness in her voice as she slammed door behind her. I smashed my fist into the wall. I knew that whether Rena trained or not she would definitely show up and give it her all tomorrow. Rena highlighted the problem without realizing it. She was right I did have a problem with Yuki, but the problem isn’t that I don’t like her. I like her way more than I should, I love her and I wanted a chance with Yuki but that meant she had to break up with Rena first…

・・・

The rest of the day felt like it dragged on for an eternity, at lunch Rena and I simply took off in different directions in fact she didn’t even return to class.

“Must’ve skived off to Tokyo.” I grumbled as I entered the changing room for the second time today.

“Can you believe the captain?”

“She’s skipping the final practice before the semis, right?”

“I know right, she clearly doesn’t care about the team.”

“I heard that she’s too busy in love with some stupid bitch.”

“All of you shut the hell up!” All my pent-up rage from this morning exploded. I was still infuriated with Rena at this point but I can’t stand others bad mouthing her. “Rena might not be here now but come tomorrow she will be on that pitch playing with ten times more heart than all of you!” The crowd was stunned into silence; every single pair of eyes was focused on me until Takahashi-sensei walked in.

“Come on guys let’s get going now!” There was a muted response from the entire room. I tapped her on the shoulder as I walked out.

“Coach I’m not feeling too well so I’m going to skip today.” She gestured for me to stay. “Oh and another thing, learn to read the situation before you come bursting in.” I gave nonchalant wave as I walked across the pitch toward the ball in the centre circle. With my teeth gritted I thwacked the ball towards the underside of the bar causing the ball to ricochet back off the ground to hit the bar for the second time. On the way past the goal I spat on the post and gave a dismissive snort “Getting all cocky about hitting the bar twice.”

・・・

Lying perfectly still I let the water flow giving me peace for the first time today. I rose up from the bath combing my hand through the drenched hair. Amidst the calming atmosphere my mind wandered off thinking about Yuki. Maybe I should phone her, I mean she’s phoned me when she was feeling down and just speaking to her put a smile on my face. To be honest I’d rather meet her than just phone her. I wish I could have her comforting arms wrap around me, instead I have this ragged towel covering my body. Making my way into the room I dropped the towel and pulled on a blue sports bra and the Japanese football shirt over it. At that moment my phone buzzed and fell off my bed. I lifted it to see that I had six missed calls from Yuki. Looks like I’m not the only one who wants to have a chat. Skimming through my phone I came across Yuki’s number and dialled it. Yuki didn’t even wait for a half ring before answering.

“Why didn’t you pick up earlier?” Her voice was barely recognizable with all the sobbing in between.

“Yuki are you ok? You’re in your house right?” I panicked at the sound of Yuki’s crying, but I sensed an opportunity and started rushing down the stairs.

“Yeah…” A limp sniffle in reply

“Good I’m already on my way.” I burst out my and sprinted through the rain toward Yuki’s house. The weather was as miserable as Yuki sounded on the phone, the dark skies casting a shadow of despair across the city. Everything around me was being beaten down by the tear drops of misery descending from the sky, but I felt excited at this sudden development. Rena was out of town and I was on my way to Yuki’s house; things couldn’t have been more perfect for me. Not a single notion of the most important match being tomorrow had crossed my mind; I was going to meet Yuki no matter what.

Arriving at her house I immediately rang the doorbell “Yuki! It’s me Jurina!” Not waiting for a response I let myself into the house kicked my shoes off and ran up the stairs. Following the sound of the sobs in the house I soon found myself in Yuki’s room. It was full of all different shades of pink and cute little objects scattered across the floor. Yet all this cheer was being pushed out by the heavy pressure in the centre of the room where Yuki was wailing into her bed.

“Yuki…” She turned away from her sodden sheets and tried to utter a word before returning to her bed still weeping. Stepping onto the fluffy carpet I took a large gulp as I approached the back of Yuki’s white gown. “I’m here for you but you have to tell me what’s wrong.” I wrapped my arms over her shoulders, drawing her warm body towards me; I could feel her chest heaving in an erratic fashion, her breathing becoming more disjointed with every tear streaming down her cheek. My heart was pulsing against Yuki’s back, reaching impossible speeds. We sat there in an eternal embrace. Yuki’s relentless howling gradually died down allowing her to finally form words.

“It’s Rena,” My grip around her loosened, why did it have to be about her? “She won’t answer my calls and in fact I haven’t seen her once all day.” I didn’t know how I should have replied to these words. Could I get her to dump Rena with this, but then they would easily see through such a lie and they’d both hate me for it. Maybe I Should tell her about Rena getting her that present, that way she won’t have anything to worry about; only thing is that would belittle all the effort Rena went to in order to surprise Yuki. In the end I chose to stay silent I just wanted to be close to the girl I loved and enjoy this moment, everything else can wait till tomorrow.

“Jurina can you stay and watch over me for a while. It’s just my parents are out of town and I would ask Rena over but…”

I clasped one of her hands with my own and brushed her hair with my other. “Of course, I’ll stay the whole night if you need me to.”

“Thank you, Jurina.” Yuki climbed into her bed and shut her eyes. I stayed holding her hand until she eventually fell asleep.

“Good night Yuki” I whispered into her ear “Thank you for everything.” My lips left a longing mark on her cheek. I vowed to never forget tonight nor would I regret my actions toward the girl I loved. As I left the house I noticed a drop of water trickle down my face. “Strange, I could swear it stopped raining earlier…”

But Juju is disrespecting the 'Bro Code' or 'Sis Code' lol.

@kahem: lol the bro code right we’ll see if see does indeed go all the way and break it

@kurogumi: Wmatsui is gone since it would make the title too long XD Yuki falling for Jurina that would be interesting wouldn’t it

@ChuuuPuffss: Ah well Mayuyu does make an appearance, albeit a tiny little mention XD You could also say the reason Rena didn’t contact Yuki was cause Jurina pissed her off so much in the morning she just spent the whole day in rage

@ryeangryu: That monkey emoticon lol and I gather you think Jurina made a mistake

@mo-chan:Don’t worry about Mayu she won’t fall for Rena or anything like that but I might try that out in another fic lol

@DC2805: Well that is the definition of a love triangle XD Though this one is a bit shorter than others

@Yuki88: lol Yuki is just that awesome XD Ah, Rena getting angry would be scary… But does she ever find out?

A/N: The final chapter is here! Thank you all for reading my first attempt and I hope you guys like the ending...

Chapter 5~君を忘れるための涙~The Tears to Forget You

-

“Arrgh!” A shock went down my spine as I felt a light vibration in my hand. I turned my head on my pillow to see my phone flashing. Sitting up in my bed I saw that it was Yuki who had messaged me
“Thanks so much for last night, Jurina. I really appreciate your help and good luck with the match today!”
A relieved smile came across my face “So last night definitely wasn’t a dream then.” My finger unconsciously rested itself on my bottom lip, still clinging to the sweet sensation that I stole from Yuki’s cheek.
“P.S. I’ll be cheering you guys as loud as I can!”
I daftly giggled, thinking about the ways I could show off to her on the pitch. First off I’d have to find her in the crowd and then make sure I embarrassed the opposition in front of her, in fact I could dedicate the winning goal to her and along with that maybe even steal another kiss...

“Who are you going to be kissing dear?” My mum was standing in the middle of the doorway her eyebrow raised in curiosity.

“Huh you must be hearing stuff I haven’t said anything”

“No, I clearly heard you talking about stealing a goal or dedicating a kiss or something like that.” Crap, me and my stupid imagination. I must’ve started babbling away to myself.

“Well just ignore everything I just said” Breezing by my mum I entered the bathroom to see a tomato staring back at me from the mirror. “What the heck am I thinking I gotta focus.” I stared running the tap before slapping my face several times to wake myself up from my daydreaming. Once the sink was filled with water I went ahead and submerged my head. Yuki can wait till later, right now I can only afford to think about the match. Pulling my head out of the water I flicked my hair to the side, well there’s still Rena to deal with… “Doesn’t matter I’ll just win the game by myself.” I muttered returning to my room to begin my preparations. I changed into the proud black and white stripes of my school, lobbed my boots into my bag and headed downstairs.

“Hey mum, dad I’m better get going now.”

“Jurina make sure you eat something before you go.” My dad called me from the dining room.

“Well if you insist.” I nicked a piece of toast from my dad’s plate and held it in my mouth as I rushed out the house.

“Good luck, dear!” I could just about hear my mum’s shout of encouragement as I left the house.

Half way down the way to the school I spotted Rena walking ahead of me with her bag slung across her shoulder. I looked over my shoulder to make sure the road was clear before jogging across and running by Rena. She would still be furious about the argument we had yesterday and I couldn’t afford another confrontation with her, I had rather hoped that she would take out her anger on the opposition. The crowds were already starting to gather around the grounds. Never before had I seen so many people gather for a match.

“Looks like people are expecting quite a spectacle today.” A hand came to rest on my shoulder. “Make sure you give them one Matsui.”

“Coach, please don’t shock me like that.” I lifted her hand off of me and faced her.

“Sorry about that, just trying to do my job and inspire you before a big game.” She gave me a reassuring pat on the back. “Hey look you partner just arrived.” Rena stepped through the gate and marched straight towards me yet she was staring right passed me. “Right you two let’s get going to changing room now, everyone’s been waiting on you.” Placing her hands on our backs she escorted us into the changing room where the rest of the team was already in a huddle. Each member carrying a rigid expression, the magnitude of the occasion was clearly getting to them. We joined them to fill up the ring and placed our fist in the centre to begin our pre-match ritual.

“Right you lot this is no different from a normal game, so go out there enjoy yourself and as long as you put in the hard work the rest will sort itself out.” This was coach’s favourite phrase, always talking about effort, but then again it always helped the team relax before a match. “Fight on three. One, two, three!”

“Fight!” Our spirits erupted causing the room shake under our voices. We broke up and returned to our own bags to finish our final preparations before one by one we left the changing room and onto the pitch.

By the time I reached the pitch Rena was already in the centre circle with the referee and two members of the opposition. Still avoiding direct contact with Rena I took up my position next to her in the circle.

“So you’re the infamous double Matsui pair?” The shorter girl with a red hairband suddenly spoke out to us. “Let me tell you this now compared to me and my sister you two are nothing.”

“Miyuki you shouldn’t be so disrespectful.” The other girl showed very little emotion considering she was wearing the armband for her team. “You’re insulting us by comparing our combination to some lowly pair like them.”

“The hell did you did you ju—”

“Why don’t we let the football do the talking?” Rena stepped in front of me and stuck out a hand toward the other captain. “Matsui Rena.” She faked a grin, though it wasn’t very convincing and she actually looked a little psychotic.

“Watanabe Mayu.” The girl loosely accepted Rena’s hand with a smirk, then turned to the ref. “They can have kick-off. Come on Miyuki let’s get in position.” They walked in separate directions and stood either side of the circle. The referee blew his whistle and we were under away.

・・・

“What the hell are you two doing out there! We would be winning by now if you two knew how to pass it to each other!” The coach was right; the first half was a complete disaster. Rena and I hadn’t exchanged a single pass between each other and that had caused us to fall behind 1-0 at half-time. “I don’t care what is going on between you two but don’t you dare let some stupid argument be the reason we lose the game.” She pointed an accusing finger at the two of us. “Now get out there and win the game!” She shouted, trying to lift our spirits before we went back out to the pitch.

The second half started out as badly as the first half. Rena and I still only occasionally passed it to each other. I kept opting to go for the spectacular shots instead of passing it to her. With five minutes to go the opposition’s sly captain picked the ball up on the edge of our penalty area. I rushed across and slid in at her trying to get the ball back. She merely flicked her foot to daintily lift the ball over my outstretched leg. As she went by me I could hear her snicker before she lashed the ball into the back of the net.

“Hmph, such an eyesore.” She sneered at me not even looking happy about having scored.

“You want to say that again.” My teeth ground against each other as I stood up, clenching my hand into a fist.

“Sure, you’re complete disgrace to your team.” I snapped and started swinging my fist at her smug face.

“Take this you litt—” A sudden force hit me from the side knocking me onto the ground.

“What are you doing Jurina? You trying to get yourself sent off!” Rena grabbed me by the collar and picked me back up. “Look I’m sorry for continuing to be petty over yesterday, so let’s start playing properly now.” She set me back on the ground and walked off to the centre again.

“Hey Rena” I called out to her. “I’m sorry as well.” I bowed down in apology before joining her in the centre circle. I looked across at the scoreboard, 2-0 five minutes left. I couldn’t help but laugh at our situation.

“Jurina did you hit your head when you fell?” Rena looked a little confused by my strange reaction.

“Imagine if we go and win this game now.” Rena’s eyes grew twofold in size upon seeing my grin. “We’ll be legends.” The referee blew his whistle and we immediately turned on the opponents. Rena and I weaved in and out of the opponents knocking the ball between each other with each fluid motion. Finally Rena was clear through on the goal and smashed the ball into the net. The crowd roared they finally had something to cheer about and they sensed a comeback was on.

“Come on! Just one more guys let’s do this!” It was refreshing to see Rena have the hunger in her eyes again. The entire team felt the change in her aura and they started to believe in themselves. The problem now was the time, we only had a minute to score and we needed to get the ball back. Rena came across to me and gave me some instructions. “When they kick off immediately start running toward their goal; I’ll make sure to get the ball back.”

The whistle went off and I took off. I just put my head down and ran; I trusted Rena would fulfill her part of the job so I had to do mine.

“Jurina!” I glanced back to see the girl with the red hairband sprawled across the floor next to Rena, who then kicked the ball towards me. Once I received the ball there was only one player between me and the goal. It was the devious captain.

“I won’t let you pass!” This was the first time I had seen her lose her composure, so this match did mean something to her.

“Try me.” I stopped the ball with my right foot then spun around, knocking the ball through her legs with my left heel. Oh how sweet revenge is. With only the keeper to beat I swept the ball into the bottom corner. The referee signaled the end of the game.

“Get in!” I roared. My teammates were all piling around me, the crowd applauding our impossible comeback.

“Hey you lot we haven’t won yet!” Takahashi-sensei broke up the celebrations. “We still have to win on penalties!” She proceeded to tell us the order in which we would take our penalties. “Jurina you’ll be the last one up.” I acknowledged my responsibilities as the ace and waited for my turn.

Everyone ahead of me had scored their penalties, making the score 5-4 to them. This meant I had to score mine. Stepping up to the ball I went through my usual process, taking 1… 2 steps away at a slight angle to my left. I shut my eyes, focusing on the top right corner of the goal. Then another image floated into my head. It shouldn’t have appeared here. I had gone through the entire game not even thinking about her once yet now at such an important time my mind wandered away from football. Running up to kick the ball I opened my eyes to try and get rid of the image. As I made contact with the ball the image reappeared in the corner of my eye. Yuki was there next to the goal nervously gazing at me as the ball left my foot. Bang! My heart plummeted at the sound. The crossbar was still shaking from the impact of the ball.

Everyone else started to filter away from the pitch leaving me there, a solitary figure with my hands on my hips ignoring all the commotion around me. My world was collapsing around me, everything I had been preparing for all gone in just a single second. Eventually I was the only one left on the pitch so I returned to the changing room to collect my things before heading back home.

・・・

The road back to my house had never felt so deserted. The sun was already fading away behind the clouds and not a single other soul was in sight. Still in my uniform I decided to visit my sacred place and try to forget about the day, though deep down I knew that no matter what I did the disappoint would continue to haunt me. I was too busy worrying about Rena being distracted by Yuki, to think that I would be the one that fell apart because of her beauty…

Turning the corner I headed up the dirt track toward the shrine. When I arrived there was someone sitting on the stone beside it. They looked up and noticed me walking towards them.

“Jurina, I knew you’d eventually come here.” Rena’s eyes were slightly red from the disappointment of the loss but they were nowhere near as dejected as mine.

“Rena I— I’m so—” My legs gave way and I broke down in tears. I didn’t want Rena to see me in such a miserable state. I came here to forget about my failure not to cry about them. Rena came up to me and surrounded me with her slight arms.

“It’s ok Jurina just let it all out.” I continued to wail onto her shoulder. My soaking tears forming a puddle on her red t-shirt. “I had Yuki’s shoulder to cry on and you can have mine.” Of course she has Yuki to console her now she didn’t need me to comfort her any more, but wait…

“Rena, isn’t it Yuki’s birthday?” My grip around her got tighter as I sobbed these words. Why was Rena wasting time with me on such an important day?

“Don’t worry she understands that you need me and even I would have come here even if she told me not to.” Rena pulled away and grasped me by the shoulders and flashed soothing smile.

“Thanks Rena but I’m okay now.” The tears were gradually slowing. “I’d better get going now.”

“Wait Jurina, just one last thing.” Rena caught a hold of my arm. I noticed a silver coin gleaming in her other hand. “It’s not quite an entire piggy bank but I hope it’s good enough for you.”

“You still remember that?” I was surprised that she remembers that gesture I made from all those years ago.

“Of course I do. You’re my precious best friend Jurina I’ll always be here for you.” Rena threw the coin into the box and shook the bell. “I wish that we can win the next year.” In my mind her previous words were still reverberating. I finally realized how stupid I’ve been. How could I forget such an important thing? Something shifted in my heart and I finally made the decision that I should have done long ago.

“Hey Rena” I stared directly into her eyes. “Thanks so much and I’ll see you on Monday.” Not waiting for a reply I rushed all the way back to my house and ran straight past my parents into my room. After casting away all my bags I grabbed something from the shelf then sprinted back out the house past my bewildered parents.

Panting heavily I climbed the last few steps to the shrine; it was time to make my decision. I came to halt at the box and emptied the contents of my piggy bank into it.

“I wish for my best friend to live in eternal happiness with Yuki.” A tear drop streamed down my cheek as the bells rang out. I’m glad that I that fell in love with Yuki. I understand that it was a mistake on my part but now I look back, it just shows how close we are falling for the same person, and now I understand exactly why you love her. But I will forget about my love for her because your happiness is just as important as mine. Deep down I had always known that this was something I had to face. Ever since I developed these feelings for Yuki there was a small niggling in my heart, but I wanted to ignore it. I convinced myself that I could continue loving your girlfriend without hurting anyone. Of course that’s impossible. At least one person will suffer from such a situation, and I will be that person for I was the one who committed the sin. No matter how many tears it takes I will forget about my affection for Yuki. This way you’ll never know about my mistake and live forever in bliss with Yuki.

I totally agree with Chanaline...it's a good ending as Jurina has some control over her infatuation over Yukirin..which could turn into something hurting and harmful to all 3 of them if go out of hand... and come to think of it, it's also a blessing in disguise to gain friendship over love relationship sometimes. Best is to find someone who can truly reciprocate your love. And never try your friend's GFs!

Before I begin with personal replies I just want to say a big thanks to everyone, that's you silent readers included  :thumbsup who took the time to read my first attempt at fan fiction and I apologise for the slightly weird ending :nervous Although if you did enjoy this then I'll be starting a new story in the next few days :) It'll be quite different from this story but I hope you guys check it out
Now let's begin with the personal thank you's  :twothumbs

@matsuru I know its really sad for Jurina right? But there's nothing to say Jurina doesn't eventually find happiness she just gave up on her initial happiness for the sake of her best friends

@mo-chan I'm scared mo-chan the thought of one day I go to sleep and the next I end up like :bleed eyes: And I'm sorry to disappoint you even more but my next fic won't have any MaYuki  :( but it will be a Wmatsui centred fic so I hope you'll check it out  :)

@Yuki88 Sorry for it being short but this is only my first go so I am trying to get better  lol at the idea of Jurina dating the captain of the school that just beat her though, that would be a strange turn of events  XD

@ryeangryu I know its a sad ending but sometimes aren't those those the ones we remember the most :nervous Maybe I'll eventually write a epilogue to give Jurina a final pairing but for now I just want to leave it like this  :nervous

@Chanaline That wasn't quite the reaction I was expecting but I guess you liked it so whatever XD and yeah very little/ no Yuki in the last chapter since the thing I was focussing on in this story was the bonds friendship between the Wmatsui rather than romance between Yuki and the characters.

@DC2805 Those are some awesome words of wisdom there! I kinda wished you could have said that to someone I knew  But I digress I'm just really glad you liked the ending :)

@kahem It is a disappointment that they lost but considering that match was the catalyst for Jurina to make such a mature decision I think it was actually quite a cheap price to pay :)

I'll be waiting for you to update again  :peace:

A/N: Hey guys I have already decided to embark on my second story! I won't tell you what inspired me to write this but I'm sure all you manga/anime fans out there will immediately spot my reference XD Now this fic will have a distinctly different tone to my previous one but I hope you guys enjoy it just as much^^

Chapter 1- The Forgiving Hunter

The year 2048, people’s expectation of a new smarter world had failed to come to fruition. Technology had not advanced like everyone said it would and in fact it seemed like the world had regressed. Society took a huge fall back and the world was full of crime and hate. This was not to say that the governments didn’t have any power over countries, it was more like they didn’t care any more. Rather than investing money for more law reinforcement and a larger task force they placed bounties on the head of each criminal, dead or alive you take the body of them they give you the cash. Scum killing scum for the small price of money, no matter how you look at it the plan was a good one. However I was thankful for this. We are known as cleaners, and we took advantage of these bounties to earn a living. People would normally frown at as for eliminating people for money, but we made a deal with the public, we’ll hunt at night out of the way and they ignore us, let us get on with business.

My piercing dark reflection slid away as I stepped out onto filthy platform. I strode across to the only thing dimly illuminating the station. Next to the vending machine was a scrawny little figure clad in scruffy ripped rags. There was cat sitting on her shoulder blending into her pitch black hair and coat. After pressing several buttons I snatched my black coffee out from the compartment. Making my way towards the stairs there was the noise of clanging behind me.

“Hey, you forgot your change.” It was the ragged girl holding out her hand containing a single copper coin.

“Why don’t you just keep it? You sure as hell need it more than I do.” I brushed her off with a wave and climbed up the stairs.

“No you should take it back since it’s yours.” The girl followed me out of the underground. She was giving me a daft feline grin. “Plus what am I meant to get with this much? I can’t even buy a carton of milk.”

“Oh right so you want more?” My hand dove into my pocket to grab more coins. Suddenly the cat leapt from her shoulder and rushed off down an alley.

“Train, wait for me!” The girl’s coat fluttered as she chased after her cat.

“Must be one of those crazy types; giving her cat such a strange name.” Muttering under my breath I set off in search of a target. Wandering through the murky alleys it didn’t take long to find a mugging take place.

“Hey do you mind coming with me? I’m kind of in need of a little cash.” Tossing aside the empty can I strolled toward the ugly being.

“You, you’re a cleaner aren’t you?” He was trembling in fear as he started to back away. I continued toward him sarcastically applauding his powers of deduction.

“You must be the mastermind of your gang with such genius like that.” Reaching into my coat I took out two compact pistols and aimed them at him. “Well I can’t be wasting any more time now so any last words?”

“Hey, cleaner.” There were several grunts coming from behind me. “You’re not exactly the smartest.” Without realizing it I was surrounded by four more members of the gang all armed with knives.

“Brilliant now I can now get 500,000 instead of 100,000” Smirking as the circle around me gradually became smaller.

“Don’t be getting too cocky now, or are you really that stu— Get this thing off me!” There was a familiar looking animal sitting on top of the thug’s polished dome.

“Good job finding her Train!” The cat’s idiot owner was skipping towards us waving her arm towards me. “Hey tall scary lady I still have your money. Oh wait, these dummies look a lot scarier though.” The girl still had a beaming grin across her face; the situation didn’t seem to mean anything to her.

“Who do you think you’re talking to huh?” Rage building up in his veins, causing them to bulge out of his forehead. “It’s a shame we’re going to have to ruin that cute little face of yours.” Even with a yelling madman charging at her the girl still had a cheerful expression. In fact I noticed a small glint in her eyes as her hand disappeared into her coat. The next moment several shots echoed into the night. Loud screams filled the alley as everyone around me simultaneously collapsed.
The moon was shining its spotlight upon the source of the sound where the happy go lucky teen once stood. The gun in her hand was still letting out a thin wisp of smoke from its barrel. Her smile had morphed into a solemn glare creating an atmosphere full of intent around her. However there was a something mysteriously lacking. For someone with such sharp shooting ability I didn’t feel a single ounce of killing intent.

“The bounties are all yours.” My attention was caught by the coin revolving through the air. By the time I looked back down the alley the girl and her cat had already vanished into the darkness.

“Ugh what the hell was that thing?” I was just a confused as the dazed voice. Since when did anyone else come here? My eyes flickered around and only found the five bodies on the concrete surrounded by a pool of blood. Then I noticed that these bodies were in fact still conscious, all of them desperately clutching at their bleeding knees.

“Why would you let these scum bags live?” My weapons were directed at the heads of the men. With every pull of the trigger nightmares of my past flashed through my mind. Once the execution was over I took out my mobile. “Hey Mayu, I got another five.” Discarding the coin onto a corpse I continued my search for my next target. I felt a little sorry for my next victim. It’s not their fault some random girl decided to ruin my night, but they would be the unfortunate one that suffers from my wrath.

@kurosawa87: I'd be worried about that if it wasn't for the fact that it was also one of my guilty pleasures XD So you can look forward to more violence

@mo-chan: lol I see what you mean by Mayu being the victim but she really isn't, and Yuki will be well kind of... Anyway never mind that I promise my next fic will have a proper Mayuki pair just for you mo-chan!

Chapter 2- Second Impressions

Dense fog was creeping over the dewy grass as a howl resonated through the dim park. The water shivering in fear as the pure liquid was marred by the crimson fluid gushing out from the mutilated corpse.

“No, please spare m—”

There was now another motionless body in the murky pond. “That makes it the tenth one tonight.” Discarding the used up cartridge onto the soaked pieces of garbage, my anger from last night still remained. That gullible fool’s naïve actions had rekindled a fury in my memories. It’s been almost an entire year since that X was engraved into my mind’s eye. That symbol is the sole reason for my enduring existence and I swear the next time I see her she would put her through a fraction of the torture that I go through every time the sun hides.

My mobile started to hum in my coat so I pulled it out and answered it.

“Rena, get to the underground. Someone says they want to meet you.” Mayu hung up just as soon as I answered the phone. Great now there’s another thing to get on my nerves. Rather than being so stingy about time I wished that she would occasionally take the time to explain things. Nevertheless it just wasn’t in her programming to do such a thing. For the 6 months that I have known her she never revealed a single hint of emotion, in fact I didn’t reveal much to her, we both knew very little about each other but this wasn’t a personal relationship. For a small cut of my bounties she provided me with heaps of information and that’s all I really cared for.

・・・

There was no sign of Mayu when I arrived at the deserted station. “Strange she’s never been late to a meeting before.” All the lights around me started to flicker, plunging the world into momentary darkness. At that instant a shadow twisted me around and pinned me against the bricks. Instinctively kicking out, I freed myself from my attackers grasp. My eyes were struggling with the lack of light and I could barely see where my enemy had landed. Nevertheless I reached into my coat and took out my pistols only to hear them clang on the tiles after a fist catapulted into my jaw. I lifted my arms to brace myself for the flurry of sharp nails that followed. Desperate to gain some space I thrust my knee up into their stomach and rolled out from underneath them. Realising that I was near my pistol I stretched out my hand to pick it up. Instead a sharp pain pierced through my hand.

“Arrgh! What the hell!” As the power returned to the platform I saw a cat was perched on top of my pistol and it had its claws hooked into my hand. Giving up on retrieving my pistol I locked my eyes onto the attacker. I was shocked to see the ragged girl from last was storming towards me.

“Why did you kill them!” Her roar was filled with fury as she flew through the air leading with her foot. With the lights back on avoiding her attacks was now a far easier task. Gliding to my right I caught her in midair with my rotating heel knocking her into the wall. Finally I could show this girl some pain. Dampening my bloody lips I unleashed a left hook into her stomach, followed by a hefty uppercut from my right hand. Before I could continue my onslaught the girl managed to wrap her leg around mine and tripped me up. The fall felt like it happened in slow motion. Midway through it I managed to shift my body weight and reverse our positions, or so I thought. She must’ve expected my attempt to switch our positions since she took advantage of my turning force by spinning the same way as me and smashed me into the ground.

“Ugh!” Blood came spluttering out from my mouth as I grimaced at the sound of my fractured ribs. Her soft paws were now resting around my neck

“You’re no better than the criminals you killed. In fact you should pay the price for ending their lives.” Slowly her grip was starting to tighten. Yet looking into her eyes I knew my life was under no threat. Her piercing green eyes were lacking the sharpness required to kill. They were dulled by useless melancholy emotions.

“You’re wrong I’m far better than those pieces of trash, otherwise I’d be the dead one.” I spat at the face of the girl and her sense of justice. Wiping the phlegm from her face with one hand, she pummeled my face with the other.

“Jurina I thought you said you would never kill anyone?” A grey hooded figure was sliding down the hand rail on the stairs. Like a feather she floated toward us and daintily landed on her toes. “Remember she is also one of my associates.”

“Mayu!” The girl immediately leapt off of me. The air around her suddenly became bright and she squeezed the newcomer. “Of course I wouldn’t have killed this lady but I didn’t realize you were working with such a crazy person.”

“No, you are the crazy one that refuses to kill your targets.” Mayu shrugged off the arms that were bound around her and stooped down to my level. “Apologies for my tardiness Rena but to be honest I didn’t think you would get this roughed up by someone who refuses to kill.” She gave a dismissive scoff.

“Any coward can hide in the darkness to beat me up.” I shot a dirty look in reply to the smirk.

“Don’t feel too bad. Jurina here was actually—”

“Mayu, I told you never to mention that.” Trying to hide her serious tone she came up with another playful hug; then she turned her attention on to me. “And I’m going to make sure you don’t kill another person ever again.”

“Go ahead and do what you want.” Ignoring her promise I barged my shoulder into her and walked over to the cat with my pistols. “Just tell your pet to get its disgusting paws off my stuff.” I nudged the cat aside with my boot and lifted my equipment.

“Hey don’t talk about Train like that!” Her lips formed a pout.

“Your name is Jurina right?” I cracked my neck round as my body twitched in annoyance. “Stopping yapping like a dog and actually force me to care about the crap you’re talking about.” Not even caring for a reply I dropped onto the disregarded railway and strolled into the soot filled tunnels.

・・・

The elevator let out a loud ping to alert me of the arrival at the top floor. Advancing out of the lift, I wandered toward the only other door in the entire room and opened it with the key dangling from my chain. Upon entering the room I took out my pistols and hung up my coat on the back of the door. I continued to remove the rest of my clothes until all that remained were my pitch-black, laced bra and suspenders. I slid my pistols across the counter and poured out a glass of red wine for myself. Looking out of the huge window I lazily began swirling the glass in my hand. With my suite being on the top floor of the apartment I had a magnificent view of the city streets rotting below me. These days all the streets were filled with the overwhelming stench of corpses and a single person on a silly crusade wasn’t going to change that. I knew that the girl’s ideals were foolish and that eventually she would end up like me. Paying a heavy price for our mistaken plans and casting our hearts into the darkness. There was once a time when I was like her, opting to capture criminals for their bounties rather than murdering them. However I had a partner that believed the same daft ideas.

Her name was Yuki. We had known each other since nursery and as we grew up we decided that we would both grow up to become cleaners but we would spare their lives. That way we would be more like actual good guys rather than be murderers. She was a truly gentle person with a natural talent for sword mastery and in fact it was for her fighting skills then I would be six feet under at this very moment. Instead she is the one trapped in the ground because of my deficiencies.

Now this Jurina girl wanted me to return to my weaker self and repeat my mistakes. Is she suggesting that the tainted existence that killed Yuki deserved to live? I was yet to take revenge for Yuki and only after I kill the owner of the “X” will I be able to properly atone for the mistakes I made that day. Until that happens I can’t allow any more weakness or doubt into my heart. I will continue to murder people in order to further numb my heart and if she chooses to get in my way then that is her choice, but nothing would prevent me from my revenge.

Woah, this fic is awesome!
Jurina is somewhat really cute here...
Ah, so Yuki is dead. Well, revenge surely is a driving power.
Is it going to be only few parts like your previous fic or will it be a bit longer? (something I kind of hope for)

@ffff: Thank you so much for your comment  Yeah Jurina is quite the playful character in this story XD As for the length of the story I'm going to try and make it a few more parts longer so it'll be about 7~8 unless I get another idea to fill it out  :)

@kurosawa87: I'm confused do you mean Jurina or Rena being brave since all she is doing is harassing Rena XD While Rena is hunting down this "unknown" enemy

@mo-chan: Glad that this is the sort of thing you've been waiting for  :) Don't worry this won't have any MayuRena or JuriMayu in this fic, though I do feel a bad since you told me you were a big MaYuki shipper and I killed Yuki... Well Jurina sort of succeeds with her job in this chapter but Rena will still remain a bit of a nasty character so Jurina still has some more work to do XD

@DC2805: No problem :D Thanks for commenting :)

A/N: Absolutely nothing Valentine’s themed about this update, it just happened to be today that I finished the chapter XD Well thinking about it the relationship between the 2 characters takes a step forward so it is kind of more of a love theme than expected from this type of fic. But never mind that I hope you guys have had/ will have a nice day and I guess this is sort of my present to you guys so enjoy  :D

Chapter 3- I give up!

-

Two figures stood facing each other in the dark corpse littered alley. One of them had a gun pointed to the hostage they had trapped in a headlock. His face frozen with fear as slowly shuffled out of the alley. In contrast to her captor the hostage had a surprising look of relief across her face. Her eyes were gazing directly into the black hooded figure that was pointing a gun at the two of them. This gun was the only thing that I could point out on the hooded being; a thin white “X” was etched into the side of the gun. This very symbol made me want to destroy the person beneath the hood, but instead I was stuck to the ground, forced to be a mere bystander of the events that were about to unfold.

A single shot rang out plunging the world into the monochrome of black and white. The man keeled over backwards with a loud thud, blood pouring out of his chest. With the arm around her neck removed the captive was now free. As she took a step forward toward her savior the world started to turn against itself. In agonizing slow-motion she halted in her tracks and began collapsing toward the ground. Her face still had an expression of relief etched across it, rather it seemed like she had already accepted her fate and wasn’t afraid of her own death. After flashing a smile at the one that had just killed her she looked across at me and mouthed a few words.

“Yuki!!!” My eyes were becoming so blurry that I could barely make out the murderer leaning over and caressing the victims face. Rage began to consume my heart, how dare they touch Yuki after killing her. I began clutching desperately at the air; trying to reach out for the killer and wrench them off of Yuki. Yet I was moving further away from where my blood thirsty eyes were locked onto. Looking around me I saw rotting hands grabbing onto my legs dragging me into the darkness. More zombies emerged from the shadows behind me and began to chomp and bite into my flesh. I recognized each of these faces as ones that I have put a bullet straight through and they clearly didn’t appreciate it.

“Let go of me! I have to kill that bastard!” My vision suffered from a black out and I completely lost sight of the alley. Only the imposing image of the “X” remained, slowly bleeding to become a deep red colour. Once it was completely drenched in blood it was set alight by the black flames of vengeance that consumed my heart that night.

・・・

Breaking out in a cold sweat I kicked off the sheets on top of me. It was like this all the time now. Every time I shut my eyes the letter constantly reappeared as if they were ingrained into the inside of my lids. My life revolved around this image and even during the day all I did was search for more information on the “X”.

Heading out of my room I went into the lift and headed down to the bottom of the apartment. Leaving the building my day took a huge turn for the worst. There on the ground was Jurina fast asleep against the wall. My day had barely just started and she was already here to pester me about being and good girl and leaving everyone arrive. My attempt to sneak by without waking her resulted in a resounding failure as she squeezed me tightly to prevent any chance of me escaping.

“Ha! Now that I’ve caught you, you won’t be able to kill anyone.” She chirped, tightening her grip around me.

“Dammit let go of me!” I slammed her and my back into the wall getting her to release me. At that moment I aimed my gun at her smiling face. “Stop bothering me, especially since you should know that I won’t kill anyone during the day.”

“So you’ve decided not kill anyone then!” She was excited at the thought that she had won the battle to turn me.

“No I’m just following the rules which stop me from killing people in the day. If I had it my way I would be killing you and be making a lot more money.” I hated the law that prevented cleaners from hunting during the day.

“Well at least you’re kind enough to follow the rules.” She shrugged her shoulders and took a hold of the hem of my coat. “Still I want to follow you to find why you’re always so angry.” Ignoring her cheeky playful wink I spun away and stormed down the street desperate to shake off my pursuer. “Wait for me Rena-chan. Wait I mean it is ok for me to call you that right?”

“No, it’s not! In fact before you even start asking me about what to call me just don’t talk at all and stop stalking me you creep!” I lashed out with my foot to put some distance between the two of us before dashing off to find somewhere to hide from my irritation. After about an hour of escaping constant harassment I finally arrived at a place where I could find some peace and quiet. It was a bar that was being guarded by a huge burly guard and I figured that the little rascal wouldn’t be old enough to follow me in.

“Hey, that’s no fair!” Jurina started whining as the man’s enormous arm blocked her way.

“Better luck next time. Little girl.” I gave her the taste of her own medicine by sending a sarcastic wink at her. As I entered the building I heard her shout about knowing the owner of the place or whatever but it would take a far better excuse than that to get in.

“I’ll take your strongest whiskey.” I signaled through the smoky room to the bartender and caught the glass that he slid across the counter to me. How embarrassing it was taking to drink so early in the day. Letting out a large sigh I started swirling the glass in my hand, the ice clinking around against each other. A familiar voice emerged from one of the rooms.

“Look I’ll compensate for the five grunts you lost with their bounties so stop bothering me.” Mayu stepped into the dim room and walked straight passed me; too busy ranting down the phone to even notice me. “Then tell your next group to do a better job then.” She put her phone into her pocket and walked out the entrance.

“Mayu this stupid giant won’t let me into your shop.” I could hear Jurina’s voice from outside. God I feel sorry for the bouncer that was still being harassed by Jurina. Just how persistent is that girl?

“Jurina you do realize what this place is right? This is a bar I own, not a shop.” Mayu was bemused at the girl’s childish behavior.

“But Rena-chan is hiding from me in there.” Mayu looked back in through the open door and smirked when she saw me trying to cover my face with my coat.

“You should have said sooner. Here come in.” Mayu opened the door even wider allowing my nightmare to come bounding in.

“I have you again Rena –chan!” She wrapped her arms around me causing the few other customers in the place to shoot several disapproving glares at us.

“Oi Watanabe if you don’t want your place to be leveled down you’d better kick out this minor!” The blood inside me was boiling up with frustration as Mayu was enjoying the situation she just put me in.

“Don’t worry Jurina I’ll be kicking out Rena when she starts destroying things.” Mayu started scrolling through her phone and walked toward the back of the room. “Oh and I guess it’s also your job to look after her as well, so make sure she doesn’t drink anymore of that drink.”

“Eh what do you mean?” I turned to see Jurina lifting my glass and peering into its contents.

“Rena-chan aren’t you a little too old to be drinking apple juice.” She dipped her pinky into the liquid to have a taste of the drink. “Hm? This is horrible, why do you drink this Rena-chan? Hey mister give me a glass of milk.” The bartender begrudgingly slammed a glass on the table. “Now this is the good stuff.” Jurina was wobbling in her seat pointing at the milk, or at least that’s what I think she was trying to point to. I looked at her face to see a strange distorted grin and her cheeks seemed a little more flushed than usual. Even for a minor it was a bit much for someone to get drunk on such a small amount of alcohol.

“Rena-chan you’re face, it’s all wonky and strange.” Her hands were reaching out toward me but fell short of my face and ended up plastered onto my chest. The strange grin on her face faltered a little as she continued to pat around my chest. “Err, Rena-chan since when did a man wearing a bra take your seat?”

“What do you mean by that Jurina?” Slowly a demented grimace was forming across my face as the sound of veins popping could be heard from my clenched fist.

“Well you see.” Jurina began to reply with her paws still frisking around my chest. “It feels like I’ve got my hands up well, nothing I gu—”

“Don’t you dare call me flat chested!” My fist connected square on her chin causing her to hang in the air for a while before crashing back down onto her stool.

“Wow my head just got smashed but it doesn’t hurt at all! No wonder you drink this it makes you invincible!”

・・・

Eventually the effect of the whiskey took its toll on the minor. She lay unconscious on the bar, drool dripping from her twitching mouth. Leaving the bar I felt my entire body strain from the constant harassment of the girl. The sun had already retired for the day, the twilight curtain throwing itself over the streets.

“Brilliant it’s finally time to let out some stress.” I took out my pistols and spun them around my trigger fingers. The feeling of the cold metal in my palms brought an exhilarating sense of power to me. With one pull of the trigger I could end anyone’s life and I wasn’t willing to relinquish my strength just for the sake of spoiled brat’s request. Turning the corner there was a group of criminals waiting for me.

“Hey, you the cleaner who took down the rest of my gang last night?” The leader slammed his knuckleduster into the wall.

“Who knows I never really pay much attention to the insects I crush. They tend to do be dead before I notice them.” Letting out a small giggle I pointed my gun straight at his head “But don’t worry you can join them now.” As I tugged on the trigger I felt my aim sway from his head, in fact the bullet was buried in the wall nowhere near my target.

“You looking on down on us huh? Go get her boys!” The swarm came charging straight toward me, each of them screaming their various war cries. Leaping away from the crowd I fired several shots and again I felt my aim swing away from the intended target. Only this time I noticed why this kept happening to me. Every time I went to shoot another bullet would hit my pistol causing my hands to lose control and my bullets miss. I looked around to try and spot the only one good enough and foolish enough to pull off such a stunt.

“Nee Rena-chan, why does my head hurt so much? I thought that drink made you invincible not feel sick.” Jurina was laying on top of the wall her head resting upon one of her hands. “I guess I should just stick to milk.” She picked up the bottle perched beside her and started swigging away from it.

“Damn that meddlesome bitch.” I muttered under my breath as the group started to swing their various weapons at me. Avoiding as many of the flailing arms as I could I knocked down one of the men and pointed my gun at his temple at point blank range. “You won’t be able to stop me from killing this time.” I gritted my teeth and tightened my grip.

“Rena-chan behind you!” A golden knuckle slammed into my side and sent me flying into the wall. Smoke surrounding my eyes I fired two shots only to hear them ricochet off of something and fly off into the sky. “Rena-chan its mean to shoot people that are about to help you.” The dust finally settled to reveal Jurina standing in front of me with a hand reaching down towards me.

“You’re the idiot that got me in this mess.” I coughed feeling my breaths getting thinner from the previous impact to my chest. Jurina wrapped her arms around me and placed her hands on top of mine. My body fell in synch with hers and our heartbeats were in perfect unison. Out of the corner of my eyes I saw Jurina lean in and breathe faintly into my ear.

“Then let me get you out of this mess.” Using my hands she fired countless shots in an instant causing many of my attackers to drop down holding onto various parts of their bodies in excruciating pain. However we ran out of ammunition and the pistols were just making small clicking noises. The leader of the group was now charging towards us roaring with rage. There was another reassuring whisper come from behind me.

“Stay perfectly still Rena-chan.” All of a sudden there were two hands placed either side of my head as a shadow flashed over me. Gazing up I saw a graceful body spiral across the sky. She dropped her hell on top of his skull with all the force she generated from vaulting off of me. As if nothing had happened Jurina daintily floated down on top of the body. “See all of them down and not a single one dead.” That irritating grin emerged across her face again.

“You really are desperate for me to hunt clean.” I slowly dragged myself up to face the nodding dog. “Fine I give up! I promise I won’t kill people but only if you follow this one rule.” I had finally succumbed to her pestering but even I have to admit that she was an ally worth using. “I get to take all of the bounty we get from now on.”

“Sure as long as Rena-chan doesn’t kill people anymore. Plus I stopped collecting bounties a long time ago!”

“Well I’m glad we sorted that out.” This certainly answered a few of my questions, no wonder such a talented cleaner wore such filthy rags but then again why wasn’t she collecting bounties? Was this girl really that gullible? “Well there’s no need to worry about me for tonight since it’s quite the haul tonight. I’ll just call Mayu to collect these guys and call it a night.”

“Right I understand Rena-chan.” Jurina lifted her hand in a playful salute to acknowledge my words. “Well you can look forward to your training start tomorrow.” She swung her hand down and rushed off into the night. Training huh? Well all her stupid games don’t really matter anymore since with her at my side I can clean out the trash quicker. Albeit I won’t be able to kill them but that doesn’t matter as long as one day I find the person that killed Yuki and I take my revenge. Who knows maybe teaming up with Jurina will get me even closer to the owner of the “X”.

Pleased with the outcome of the night I dialed Mayu’s number on my phone. While I was waiting for her to pick up I was reminded of the conversation Mayu had during the day. It was something about compensating people with their bounties. I guess someone with so much information would have a few secrets hidden up their sleeves as well.

“Hey Rena how many do you have for me tonight.” Mayu answered with her usual abrupt tone. After counting up all the bodies on the floor I replied

“A perfect ten tonight.”

A/N: Hey guys I’ll make this quick since I have more to say at the end XD Big thanks to all your comments. There’s a lot less action in this but I hope you guys still enjoy this chapter :)

Chapter 4- Yuu-chan

-

“Rena-chan I got another two!” Jurina was waving toward me dragging a pair of motionless bodies with her.

“That’s great but I’m a little busy at the moment.” I was locked in a stalemate with my enemy as another one was behind me swinging their knife down towards me. “Dammit.” I put a bullet into his shoulder to free my arm then swung it round to knock the knife out of the partner’s hand. With the threat averted I slammed the butt of the pistol into the two men’s heads. “That makes it five for the night.” I piled the two men I just knocked out on top of the two men Jurina had caught and the one I had downed earlier.

“Hey that should be enough for tonight right?” Jurina had brought across another three bodies from somewhere.

“Hmm well I guess so…”Having to return to my old ways of not killing people wasn’t too bad. This meant I have Jurina helping me collect bounties and this was turning out to be a great idea. It was now a regular occurrence to be accumulating over ten bounties in a day so only having eight today was a little disappointing. But then again maybe I can stop relying on Mayu’s information for targets and just rely on Jurina’s instincts. I mean every time we go out I have information on at least a few targets but Jurina and her cat would always disappear and find several more targets to add to the pile.

“Umm Rena-chan can I ask you a favour?” Jurina was fidgeting with her gun, clicking the trigger firing air out of the empty barrel.

“Hey don’t be pushing your luck too much. It’s only been a week since I’ve agreed to your pestering about sparing these people’s lives.” I let out a sigh and began walking away from the girl and sent Mayu a text telling her the whereabouts of tonight’s haul.

“Don’t be like that Rena-chan.” Pouting, she leapt forwards and stuck onto my arm. “I was only going to ask you if we could hang out together tomorrow. I mean you avoid me every time I mention training and it’s not like you do much during the day.”

“Look what I do during the day has absolutely nothing to do with you.” I took my arm away from her grasp and continued to march away from her. “We are merely just two cleaners working together to collect bounties. Just because you’ve become my partner doesn’t mean you’ve replaced Yuki in anyway.” The last part was murmured under my breath, or so I thought.

“Who am I replacing?” Jurina’s ears were perking up as she pressed her cheek up against mine.

“Absolutely no one, in fact you’re a million years way too early to even think about replacing anyone. Look I’ll meet up with you again tomorrow night but no earlier than that.” I turned my finger onto her as I brushed by into the night and back to my apartment.

・・・

Through the laced curtains a thin stream of light was creeping its way into the murky room. Remaining perfectly still in my bed I decided to let my mind wander aimlessly. Why did I even think about comparing this Jurina with Yuki? No one would ever mean as much as she did to me. Just because I’d agreed to stop killing people like those days didn’t mean Yuki would be returning to me. It couldn’t be any further from the truth; I needed to destroy the one who killed her. Only then will I be able to move on from the loss of Yuki and finally allow someone to fill the darkness deep in my heart. Maybe Jurina could fulfill this role as well. The way she behaves around me is strange to say the least. We barley know each other yet she always clings onto me at any opportunity she gets but then she maybe like that with everyone she knows. There was absolutely nothing between the two of us which meant that she would treat me differently from other people, unless she really does misunderstand the relationship we have as two cleaners working together.

Finally I sat up in my bed and pulled the curtains apart to witness snow covered scenery. Really snow at this time of the year? I wrapped myself up in a thick warm woolly jumper and grabbed an apple and scarf off the counter as I made my way out toward the elevator. By the time I stepped out of the lift I was already done with my snack and threw the core into the bin on the way out. The sliding doors separated exposing me to the blistering gales.
“I should get this done as soon as I can.” I dashed into the blizzard and rushed toward the nearest convenience store to grab some shelter and food. I intended buy more than just a few things but I figured I could get everything another day; today’s weather was just a bit too treacherous. In fact I should probably tell Jurina that I wasn’t going to hunt tonight, it wasn’t like I needed to work every night and with her help recently I was already way ahead of the amount that I expected to make this month.

Battling my way through the snow storm I managed to send a short message to Jurina as I returned to the apartment building. Just as I was about to turn back into the apartment I noticed a peculiar looking mound of snow had formed against the wall. Thinking nothing of it I was just about to return to my room when I heard the sound of a phone ringing from the heap of snow. Perplexed at the bizarre mound of snow I began digging away at it to find a frozen face with pale blue lips.

“What the hell Jurina!” The girl was motionless and appeared to be in desperate need of help. Hastily I hoisted her up and carried her into the elevator. “What on earth were you doing out there?” Of course there was no reply; I was just panicking at the sight of the unconscious girl. “Dammit why is the lift so slow!” Eventually we reached my floor and I immediately took her into my room and placed her body under the sheets. Deciding that I need more things to warm her up I went to the bathroom to fill a bottle up with boiling hot water and placed it under the sheets with her.

As I sorted out the rags that she called clothes I noticed there were two guns in her pockets. Strange, I could swear she only ever used a single pistol when she fought alongside me. Well it must be uncomfortable sleeping with these chunks of metal pushing against you. Just as my hand entered her jacket she stirred from her sleep.

“I’m sorry Yuu-chan.” There were several beads of sweat streaming down her distraught face. “I didn’t mean to… No I shouldn’t have done that… I…” Her arms were flailing around; she was clearly agitated by whatever nightmare she was witnessing. I took a hold of her arms and pressed my forehead against hers only to pull away from the immense heat. Quickly I grabbed a towel, drenched it with water and placed it on her forehead. This simple gesture helped to calm her fever and she returned to a calmer state but she continued to mutter in her sleep. “Yuu-chan…” Leaving her alone in my room I looked in my fridge to find that there was not a single bottle or carton of milk in it.

“Damn that’ll be the one thing she wants when she wakes up.” I snapped my fingers and made my way back to the elevator for the third time of the day. Waiting for the lift to arrive I began to wonder about the name Jurina kept mentioning. Who on earth was this Yuu-chan? The lift gave a loud ping and I stepped into it and pushed the button for the bottom floor. Well whoever she is she clearly means something to the girl; although it sounded like the memories weren’t very happy memories that Jurina was having of the unknown girl. Rather than getting worked up about this I should just ask her about this girl. In fact it dawned on me that I knew very little about the girl. Maybe this was a good chance to gain some information on her and I can make sure by using the milk as a bargaining chip. When I looked out the door I noticed that the storm had finally died down. “Well at least that’s an improvement.”

・・・

When I returned to my room I saw Jurina rummaging through my fridge in search of her beloved drink.

“Is this what you’re looking for?” I waggled the bottle in my hand causing the girl’s eyes to light up.

“You went and got milk for me! I love you so much Rena-chan!” She leapt forward for the bottle only to end up swiping at thin air as I lifted it out of her reach. “Hey give back meanie!” She gazed up toward me with innocent puppy eyes and formed a cute pout with her lips. Her expression made it extremely tempting to hand over the drink and my hand was slowly dropping down. “Achoo!” Jurina’s sneeze snapped me back into focus.

“Do you know what I will give it to you but first you should get back in my bed and warm up. Then you have to answer my question.” I grabbed her by the shoulder and ushered her back into my room.

“Why do I have to go through an interrogation just for milk?” She was whining as she pulled the sheet up to her face.

“Fine I’ll just drink it myself then.” I began to threaten her by peeling open the bottle.

“No, no I’ll answer your questions.” A twisted grin came across my face; who would have known a bottle of milk would give such leverage.

“Well I’ll get straight to the point. Who is Yuu-chan?” Jurina’s eyes widen in shock at the name.

“How do you know about her?” Stunned into silence she could barely formulate her words.

“You kept mentioning her in your sleep. In fact you looked pretty distressed thinking about her.” I feigned a look of concern to try and draw her into revealing more about this girl’s past. Jurina looked to have resigned to any attempt of hiding any information about her acquaintance.

“Well you know how I’ve got you to stop killing people.” Her solemn look had turned into a grin at the mention of her achievement.

“If you’re talking about constantly harassing me then yeah I know what you mean.” I rolled my eyes at her silly behavior.

“But it worked didn’t it! I mean I’ve got Rena-chan to stop killing people now. In fact—”

“Look stop trying to change the subject and just answer my question.” I interrupted her before she could start rattling away at some pointless subject.

“Mou fine then.” A slightly more serious look came over her face again. “It goes all the way back to when I started out as a cleaner under Mayu’s help. I was like Rena-chan and killed all of my targets, in fact I was becoming a little too infamous on the streets; though it didn’t help that Mayu gave me a stupid nickname to add to my troubles.” She let out a heavy sigh.

“What was that nickname?” I sensed a chance to get some ammunition on the girl. She shut her eyes and gave a small murmur. “Sorry I didn’t quite catch that.” I cupped my ear and leaned in.

“Jū-byō no Yokai…” I had to admit I was a little disappointed. From her sudden quite attitude I assumed that it would be some sort of silly nickname, hearing her whisper that name had actually sent a slight chill down my spine.

“Why was that your nickname? It’s not really your typical nickname for a cleaner.”

“Look do you want me to continue my story about Yuu-chan?”

“First explain your nickname to me. Otherwise I’ll drink the milk now.” These words immediately brought an explanation from her.

“It was because anyone that fought me would be lucky to have survived ten seconds. Also Mayu was adamant that it had a part of my name in it. Now can I continue?”

“Of course go ahead.” I gestured with the bottle and lowered myself onto the edge of the bed. Jurina let out a loud cough before continuing.

“So basically I used to be like you, in fact I was worse. I was killing people for the fun of it. I had gotten to a point where I was killing people regardless of whether they had a bounty or not. The threat of being caught didn’t scare me. If the police ever managed to find me then I would just kill them.” A mixture of despair and rage was swirling around her eyes; she clearly didn’t enjoy being reminded of her past. “It was actually becoming quite silly. I thought I was invincible and began taking on groups of over twenty people at once, just so that I might have a challenge. I never once thought that the first person to defeat me would be a single girl and that she would also be my savior.” Jurina was now acting like a completely different person. A serious tone in her voice had kicked in and I was struggling to work out the emotion in her eyes. Was it disappointment at being defeated or relief from meeting her savior?

“This girl was it by any chance?”

“Yeah it was Yuu-chan who defeated me. She also knew about all the lives I had taken yet she still showed me forgiveness refused to kill me, and to be honest that really annoyed me. Not only was my pride as gunwoman bashed by a sword user but she didn’t even have the conviction to land the final blow. So I decided to continue challenging her only to lose every time.” She let out a light chuckle. “After a while she tried to teach me that my blood thirst was also my weakness, that in fact it required far more self-control and strength to not kill people. My past self refused to believe her words; I was far too stubborn to accept that something like kindness was the reason that someone was stronger than me. Eventually I learned about my errors at the cost of a life…” Her voice trailed away and a single tear ran down her cheek. “Yuu-chan died because of my arrogance and in an attempt to make up for my sins I decided that I would never kill anyone nor would I ever collect the bounties of anyone.”

“Wait so why did my make that deal with you!” I lifted my hand to cover my mouth in embarrassment at mentioning such a petty thing.

“I’m sorry for lying to you Rena-chan.” She was forcing her face into a tearful grin. “But hey now Rena-chan won’t make the same mistakes as me.” The emotions had finally overwhelmed her and the floodgates burst. Without warning she grabbed onto my arm and began weeping into my shoulder. I guess it turns out that we both share a similar past; we’ve both lost important people. However I couldn’t help but feel a little intrigued at the fact that loss sent as in different directions. Maybe there was a little more to her story than she was willing to reveal, but for now I should just comfort her; get her on my side.

“It’s ok Jurina I’m here for you.” My arms wrapped around her and squeezed her tighter as she continued to mournfully howl into the night.

A/N: Quick word at the end^^ “Jū-byō no Yokai” means “Ten-Second Demon” Also I’m sure some of you guys have an idea about who “Yuu-chan” is but just to make sure Yuko is not a character in this fic, I know Yuu-chan is one of her nicknames but it can also be this characters nickname. I know from personal experience XD Well I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and I would really appreciate any comment you leave me :D

Hi!

I'm quite new and had been ghosting around until I found your thread.

Tomodachi no Kiobito was nice. At first I thought it was going to be WMatsui versus YukiRena, but it was actually yukiRena with a one-sided JuriYuki with emphasis on WMatsui friendshhip/sisterhood. Poor Juri who ended up alone. A pairing would have been nice to help her get over Yuki. I like the fact that Juri respected the importance of her friendship with Rena rather than destroying it becasue of her feelings. I'm sure there is someone out there for her.

For X, what is the anime reference that you used? I would like to research that anime. Also, why do I get the feeling that Yuu-chan is Yuki and The X who caused Yuki's death is actually Jurina. X isn't read as X the letter but X as in roman numeral ten. Coming from Ju in Jurina's first syllable in her name and the 10 second yokai nickname. Ju is ten in Japanese after all. Just guessing.

@kahem: I know its sad, I felt bad writing about her death

@kurosawa87: Well Rena's been stopped by Jurina now but you're right Yuki/ Yuu-chan is a very important character in this fic and eventually all will be revealed  :)

@hikari_043083:  :welcome Thank you so much for your comment! Its things like this that make me really glad that I started writing fics :D I'm glad you enjoyed my first attempt with Tomodachi no Koibito, I know that it's a bit cruel for Jurina to end up alone but I really wanted to focus on the special friendship that she shares with Rena as something that may even eclipse love. However I have started working on a epilogue for that so that Jurina can end with a pairing but that may take a while since I don't want it to look forced.

As for X the anime that inspired me it is called "Black Cat", the main inspiration I got from that was the gun with a number engraved, and yes you are right in thinking that Yuki and Yuu-chan are in fact the same person. I also like your theory of Jurina being Yuki's killer and it is very close to the truth but not quite what I have in store, so I hope I can surprise you with what actually happened then.
Well this turned out to be a long reply XD and again thank you for the comment :)

@mo-chan: haha yeah Rena is acting like quite the tsundere, pretending that she doesn't care about Jurina the lost cat XD
It's funny you say that, when I wrote it down it felt like I was switching their personalities at that point, it also makes them really similar but so different at the same time lol.

A/N: Hello again people! I apologize for the long wait for the update but this has turned out to be twice as long as what I normally write so I hope that can make up for it being a longer wait! I’ve said this every time but your comments me a lot to me so please keep them coming, also a shout out to the silent readers and I hope you’ve enjoyed the story.

Chapter 5- Punishment

Heavy.  A huge burden was forcing itself down onto me. Pinned to the cushions I managed to turn my aching body around. My eyes were still full of sleep and I could barely make out the face in front of me. Wait why on earth was there a face on top of me?

“Kyaah!” Shrieking I kicked the body and sent the body soaring across the room. The sheet then rose up from the ground and let out a dazed voice.

“Mou Rena-chan why did you wake me up like that?” As soon as Jurina’s pouting face emerged from under the cover it morphed into a huge grin. “I know as a punishment you have to hang out with me for the entire day.”

“I refuse.” Without even giving her idea any thought I deadpanned and got up from my couch. “In fact what the heck were you doing sleeping with me in the sofa? I specifically let you sleep in my bed.” The girl started fidgeting with the corner of the sheet and stared up at me with watering eyes.

“I just wanted to be with Rena-chan…” I was still struggling to get over the fact that this girl used to be a killing machine like me. Those adorable eyes couldn’t have belonged to a cold blooded killer like me. I could feel my heart melt and decided to concede to her pleading.

“Well I’m not exactly doing anything so I could hang out with you.” All of a sudden Jurina came rushing toward me with joy filled in her eyes. Before she could squeeze me to do death I placed my hand on her head to stop her progress. “However there are several conditions.” This seemed to drain the enthusiasm out of her but I kept my guard up and continued to hold her away from me. “Firstly no unnecessary body contact between us. Secondly you’re going have to get at least, let’s see ten? Yeah you have to get the bounties of at least ten people tonight, and finally I refuse to be seen publicly with someone as scruffy as you so I’ll let you borrow my clothes for today.” Jurina followed me into my room and immediately started rummaging through a drawer. I went into to the wardrobe of older clothes to try and find something to lend her.

“Err Rena-chan won’t I get really cold just wearing this when I go out?” Jurina had a piece of my lingerie in each of her hands. In a flash I snatched them out of her hands and shoved them back into the drawer and slammed the drawer shut.

“Those are my things. You can go choose from that wardrobe over there.” I pointed her to where I was just a second ago and Jurina went diving head first into the clothes. Almost as soon as she went in, she came back out holding a frilled white one piece and a cream cardigan. “Good once you get changed in the bathroom then we can get going.”

“Yay, I’m really looking forward to this Rena-chan!” I avoided eye contact with Jurina as she bounced out of my room. As I pulled on a pair of black skinny jeans and skulled shirt it suddenly dawned on me that Jurina had managed to pick out the few things that I have that actually belonged to Yuki. Who knew that such a strange thing could happen? Maybe this girl really is something special; maybe she can fill the void in my heart. It’s not like I’m getting any closer to getting to finding Yuki’s killer.

“Rena-chan are you ready yet?” My Train of thought was broken by Jurina yelling from the hallway. Without replying I put my pistols in their holsters, grabbed my black leather jacket and joined her. “I hope you’re ready to have fun.” Her face had a beaming smile stretching across it.

“So would you like to tell me where we are going?” Jurina simply giggled at my question.

“You’ll find out soon enough. Now let’s go!” She took a hold of my hand and rushed out of the door, only to have to stop and wait for the lift. “Ah I forgot about this thing. Isn’t there a faster way down?”

“Well there are the stairs but…” Before I could finish she hoisted me up in her arms and kicked down the door to the staircases. “You might want to hold on tight.” She looked down to me and gave me a flirty little wink before leaping over the railings.

・・・

“Next time we take the lift.” I was still recovering from the crazy ride that Jurina had just taken me on.

“But wasn’t it really fun sliding and jumping off the railings. Plus it was a lot faster than that boring lift!” She was still giddy with excitement from that treacherous descent. “Also there’s going to be more of that kind of thing where we are going. In fact we are already here!” She was pointing at a sign which read as Tropical Land.

“You can’t be serious.” Jurina was staring me at with determined eyes, telling me that she was extremely serious. “Well aren’t you a little too old to get excited over a theme park?”

“I’ll have you know that you can never be too old for something unless there’s an age limit, and the last time I looked there aren’t any for theme parks.” Letting out a huff she stormed off into the park and started searching for the first ride that she would drag me onto. “Hey Rena-chan this big one over here!” She was pointing at the monstrous steel structure towering over everything. Its tracks were coiling between each other in a jumble of various loops, twists and dips. Jurina was already trying to queue up for the ride but her way was being blocked by a member of staff.

“I’m sorry but you’re not tall enough to get on this ride.”

“But I’m fifteen years old! I should be old enough to go this ride!” Jurina was whining and stomping the ground.

“I’m sorry but your age doesn’t matter. We don’t have any age limits only height limits.”

“Looks like your own words came back to haunt you.” I placed my hand on her shoulder and dragged her away from the staff before she could cause any more trouble.

“Rena-chan it looks so fun.” Just as she finished her sentence a group of screaming people came zooming by on the steel tracks. Jurina’s eye had a small tear in them. “I drank all that milk but I’m still too small, it’s not fair.” She began to swing her fists at me in frustration.

“Look, stop acting like a child and find another ride that you’re tall enough to go on.” We walked further into the park in search of something that Jurina could actually ride.

Eventually she found another jet coaster she wanted to go on and rushed straight toward the attendant who was overseeing the queue.

“Hey mister I’m tall enough to go on this right?” With her back against the wall Jurina was desperately trying to stretch her body beyond the red line. Mildly entertained with the girl’s hectic attempt to grow he took off the chain and let her into the queue. “Look Rena-chan I’m allowed on this ride and the queue is also really small!” Jurina took off running down the winding maze of chains and disappeared into a building.

Before I followed her I gave an apologetic nod to the amused man then entered the rows of chains. As I made my way toward the building I noticed it had a rather decrepit demeanour to it. All the windows were at awkward angles and there was an abundance of ivy all snarled up with each other over the rotting boards. Once I reached the entrance I noticed that the upper portion of the door had a phrase written across it with a sticky crimson liquid.

“Enter at your own peril.” I giggled at the ride’s feeble attempt at trying to scare me. Though I’m kind of surprised that Jurina went rushing in; I didn’t think she would be the type to enjoy horror. The door creaked open to reveal a dark gloomy room aligned with dim candles and disturbing portraits. Entering the corridor I could swear that there was a faint sobbing coming from somewhere in the hallway.

All of a sudden a hand shot out from the shadow and grasped onto my ankles. “Help me…” An eerie voice echoed throughout the entire room. Another white hand reached out and began to tug on me even harder. A frosty breath wheezed against my leg, sending shudders down my spine. A bedraggle body began dragging itself out from the shadows and continued to cry. “Please help me… Rena-chan I need you…” How on earth did this thing know my name? Was this really some kind of haunted house that the park was built around?

“Let go of me!” Yelling I lashed out with my leg to free it from its captor and backed up against the wall. Then I decided not to hang around any longer and rushed down the corridor to catch up with Jurina and the queue.

“No, Rena-chan don’t leave me!” Looking back down the corridor I saw an extremely pale faced Jurina crawling towards me; her eyes completely blood shot from the incessant tears rolling down her face.

“Jurina, what are you doing back here?” She slowly got up to her feet and continued to make her way toward me. Her entire body was trembling in fear, sweat dripping from head to toe.

“Rena-chan I’m really scared of this place.” Huddling up to me she turned me back toward the entrance. “Please take me out of here.”

“But you’ve only just come here.”

“I don’t care! Just get me out of this horrible place.” Sighing I lead Jurina out of the house and back past the confused attendant. I then continued to lead her round the park and found a bench to sit her down on.

“You do realize that the whole point of theme parks is to go on the rides.” Folding my arms across my chest I gave her a disapproving glare. It’s one thing to waste my time by bringing me to such a childish place but to not even go on any of the rides. That just defeats the point of being here. At least these rides would distract me from this unbelievable boredom.

“But the first one wasn’t my fault and the second ride was—”

“Wait.” Right then I noticed a large building across from us with the words “Wild West Shootout” written across it. “We’re going on that ride over there.” Taking a hold of Jurina’s arm I strode straight into the building only to have my progress halted by the bodies all queuing up for the ride.

“Rena-chan what are we queuing for?” Jurina had a puzzled look on her face.

“I don’t know and I don’t care. You wanted to go on a ride so here we are going on one.” The fact that we hadn’t even come close to getting on a ride was starting to get me. Who knows maybe I was more desperate to go on a ride than Jurina was. She was surprisingly quiet considering how animated she was earlier in the day.

“Err Rena-chan does this count as unnecessary contact…” Stammering a little Jurina gestured to her hand. Our fingers were somehow intertwined with each other’s. My face became flushed and I immediately withdrew my hand and shoved it in my pocket.

“Th-that meant absolutely nothing!” I took a step away and spun my face away from her. Out of the corner of my eye I could see a crestfallen frown on her face. Dammit I wish things like this would stop happening, it’s just going to result in more tiresome misunderstandings. Then again why was she so obsessed with me? As far as I remember I’d never met her before that day in the underground. There must be more to Jurina’s story than she revealed. Maybe I could ask her more questions while we sat in this queue. “Hey Jurina can I ask you something?”

“Huh yeah I guess…” She was still carrying a disappointed expression, tracing her finger over the palm where my hand once was.

“Why are you so obsessed with me?” I wasn’t going to beat around the bush so I was just going to be blunt about the entire thing.

“Wh-what do you mean?” Jurina was either still sulking about my actions or just playing hard to get. Whatever it was she kept avoiding any sort of eye contact with me.

“You know what I mean. I’m asking you to tell me why you like me so much!” Raising my voice caused the surrounding crowd turn their attention onto us. I lifted the collar of my jacket up, trying to hide as much of my scarlet face as possible. Why did I say it like that, it just makes me sound like such a narcissist. Slowly the length of the queue was shortening, although the distance between me and Jurina was still as large as ever, and eventually we got onto a cart.

Jurina then twisted round in her seat to say. “You’re right Rena-chan I do like you but I’ll only tell you if you beat me.” She then pretended to shoot me with the laser gun that we had received. The grip of the toy revolver had a small screen with several red zeros. “Highest score wins!” Shouted Jurina as the cart sped off into the realm of the Cowboys.

・・・

“Again. We are going on that again.”

“But we’ve been on loads now. Look it’s become dark now.”

“I don’t care I refuse to be beaten by you.” The girl had defeated on many previous rounds of the ride and I was still desperate to beat her. Though by now it had nothing to do with the answer she promised but my competitive nature that drove me back on to the ride. In a massive huff I brought Jurina back to queue which had doubled in size since last time. I figured that this might have been a good time to ask her another question, maybe she’ll actually answer this time. “Jurina tell me, how the heck are you so good at shooting?”

She just replied by waving her finger at me. “Tsk, tsk Rena-chan. You shouldn’t be asking me another question. You haven’t come close to beating me yet.” The wagging finger and her cocky tone just added to my frustration.

“Jurina please tell me who taught you how to use a gun.” Through gritted teeth I tried to get her to answer me regardless of her conditions. Several ideas seemed to enter and leave her mind before she finally decided on a plan.

“Hmmm… Well I guess you have made a valiant effort to beat me so I shall reward you for that but...” Damn, there was always but when it comes to these things. “We are not going back on this ride instead we are going on the Ferris wheel.” Her finger was now pointing at a large illuminated circle.

“Fine but you start answering the question now.” I wasn’t really in any position to demand anything but I was just annoyed with losing to her so often that I couldn’t contain myself.

“Sure that’s ok.” She signalled by forming a loop with her finger and thumb. “This way the time in the Ferris wheel will be more special.” The grin on her face just kept getting larger and she started skipping towards the flashing wheel. “You see it was my dad who taught me everything I know. My mum died when I was born so it was just me and him from the start and because he was a bounty hunter thought it would be a good idea to teach me about guns when I was still really young. He did tell me about other things though since he kept telling me to drink milk so that I wouldn’t be as small as him. He used to be like, this tall.” Giggling she held her hand just below her chin and joined the back of the queue, but to me it looked like her actions were at little more forced than they should be.

“How could he used to be that tall? Did he just suddenly grow one day?” My words caused her to fall into a slower more depressed state.

“He’s dead.” All the emotion had vanished from her face and she was speaking to me with an eerie monotonous tone. “You must have heard of the incident with the bomber in the underground from three years ago.” Hesitating I nodded my head. It would be hard to find someone that didn’t know about the catastrophe that took place that day. “Well my dad was on that train and he died because of the suicidal maniac. That was also the day I got my first kill as a cleaner. I wanted revenge for my father’s death but the man who killed him had already killed himself. It was then that I met Mayu for the first time and she told me that he was part of some huge gang so I decided that I would have to take my revenge on them instead. In doing this I learned that the incident that killed my father was requested by some kind of government member. Turns out that this sort of thing happens often and that people without bounties were just as bad as those with one. Eventually I became consumed with the superiority I gained from killing people, well that was until Yuu-chan came along…” Jurina’s words faded and we got to the front of the queue. “Come on Rena-chan I answered your question so let’s have fun now!” It was amazing how easily this girl could switch between emotions. I followed the bounding girl into the capsule and sat down opposite her. She just sat there gazing out of the windows marvelling at dazzling view of the city.

The sight of the girl enjoying herself brought a smile to my face. Maybe meeting this girl wasn’t so bad after all. These days I was actually starting to appreciate her company and if I was being honest I would have to say that today was actually kind of fun. It’s been a while since I was able to be so carefree about things and it was refreshing to see energetic Jurina act like such child, though she’s always acting like that it felt special with it being in a place like this. Though I found myself feeling a little guilty for asking her all these questions. I have no idea how much she knows about me, the fact that she decided to follow me and she also knows Mayu I assume that she must know a bit about me. Still maybe I should tell her about Yuki, be honest and tell her that I still intend to kill the person who murdered her.

“Jurina I have to confess. You know how I said I wouldn’t kill people anymore, well that’s not strictly true. There’s someone I need to take revenge for…” The shame in my voice was clearly audible, but Jurina’s reaction was far more subdued than I expected. Her face carried a more solemn look but other than that there was nothing she just continued to stare out into the night.

“Really? Do you have to take revenge for someone? Also would she want you to do this?” Jurina quietly muttered these words still refusing to look at me. I took a hold of her shoulders and forced her to match my determined gaze.

“No, she would probably hate me for doing this but I’ve already made my decision and I will do this no matter what.” We went over the apex of the wheel in silence, Jurina averting her eyes to try and avoid mine. After a while she let out a lengthily sigh.

“If you feel that strongly about it then I guess I’ll have to help you find this person.” She was clearly unhappy about this but she seemed to have resigned to the fact that nothing she would say would alter my decision.

Suddenly the rattling sound of gun fire pierced through the air. Leaning against the window I could see hordes of people all fleeing from a smaller group near to the merry-go-round. There was a tall burly man in the centre of the group who set his rifle to the side and took out a megaphone.

“This is an emergency announcement, would Matsui Rena please come to the merry-go-round. If she doesn’t comply with this then I cannot guarantee the safety of everyone in the park.” This must be another gang trying to get their own back on me for taking out their other members, but more importantly how did they know I was here? “I repeat would Matsui Rena please come to the merry-go-round and please don’t attempt to hide. Let’s just say that a mouse squeaked and told us you would be here.” It was bizarre hearing such a gruff voice using such well-spoken language but what on earth did he mean by a mouse squeaking?

“Rena-chan how many people do you think are there? It must be more than ten right?” Jurina unhooked the door then began to open it.

“Wait Juri—” Before I could finish she had already leapt out of the capsule and onto the frame of the wheel. In one fluid motion Jurina rapidly bounced between the pipes and gracefully flipped down to the ground in a flash. She then dashed toward the merry-go-round and aimed her gun at the leader. They stood there for a couple of seconds before he lifted his rifle and began shooting at Jurina. Avoiding the bullets she dove behind one of the bobbing horses circling the ride and shot back at the group.

Eventually the capsule was close enough to the ground so that I could jump out and follow Jurina to the merry-go-round. From the distance I could see Jurina dancing between the horses, slowly picking off her enemies as she switched between attacking and hiding behind cover. By the time I got there her movements were beginning to become sluggish from the fatigue of her having to constant dodge bullets.

“Arrrggghh!” Jurina was clutching onto her shoulder trying to hold in the blood that was flowing out but she had managed to roll behind a carriage to hide from the continuous barrage of bullets. Still sprinting I reached under my jacket and took out my guns and put several bullets into two of the four men. This caused the other two turn around and point their guns at me but before they could pull their trigger I slammed my entire body weight into one of them and sent us crashing into the carriage that Jurina was hiding behind. I immediately picked myself up and joined Jurina before storm of bullets could get anywhere near me.

“Jurina are you ok? You can still shoot right?” She replied with a simple nod but she was clearly suffering from several cuts and grazes across her body and more importantly she was still holding onto her bleeding shoulder. “Right well give me your foot, I’m going to give you a boost and you’ll take him out.” I locked my hands together and Jurina out her foot on top of them. “Ready? Three, two, one…”

Using all my strength I launched Jurina high up into the air causing her to rise high up above the carriage. Her right hand still protecting her shoulder she shot multiple times hitting her target with every bullet and the clattering of the rifle finally ceased.

“Rena-chan, catch me!” Jurina was screaming as she came falling back down with her legs flailing around. Instinctively reacting I stuck out my arms and caught her by her shoulders and knees. Our faces were now dangerously close together, only a very thin layer of air separating our noses. Her gaze met mine and I felt myself being entranced by her beautiful eyes. Frantically I tried to look elsewhere but my eyes just kept being drawn back to the enchanting black pearls, they caused my cheeks to burn bright red and they grew rosier as her short shallow breaths brushed along them and onto my parted lips. Then for a split second I felt another moist, velvety sensation cover my lips then part away just as quickly. Jurina pulled away from me and had a shy grin across her face.

“That is your punishment for lying to me.” Her finger was accusingly pointing at me as she pursed her lips. “Now let’s go back home Rena-chan. Today was so fun but now I’m really tired.” She directed her hand over her mouth to stifle a drowsy yawn.

“I guess it was ok.” I sighed and headed toward the exit with Jurina still in my arms and my head in a spin. The lips that Jurina had just punished were still tingling with excitement. Maybe I should lie to her again sometime…

Yay an update! Ooh, Rena's warming up to Jurina. This was really cute.

I'm going to do some reaserch on Black Cat, maybe find some episodes just to see what's up. Hmm, I guess I only guessed about say, 20%? From waht you said, I know for sure that it did not even reach 50%. I'm looking forward to what the real backstory and the truth is. I would not mind it if you make my heart stop and my head explode for a minute or two once the truth is out.

@kurosawa87: Haha I was actually quite nervous about what you guys would think about the ending but I'm glad you liked it  :)

@hikari_043083: Hmm well I would say your above 50% maybe? The thing is there are two versions to that event and one of the versions it's pretty tough to guess and will probably never cross your mind until I reveal it *fingers crossed* and I really hope I can live up to your expectations and make this as exciting as possible  :nervous

@Wmatsui22: I've never really done a proper date chapter before so I'm relieved that you found it funny and sweet. Really means a lot and I'll update as soon as I can  :thumbup

A/N: Sorry guys no update of X this week but I’m sure many of you know that today/tomorrow (depends where you are) is a certain “someone’s” birthday so I decided to finally post the epilogue of my first ever fanfic, as a kind of “present” I would give Jurina a pairing. So here is the epilogue for “Tomodachi no Koibito” and I hope you guys enjoy but most importantly Happy birthday Jurina!

友達の恋人-Epilogue

The burning tyres screeched on the tarmac as it hurtled down the streets. I twisted the steering wheel in my hands to swing the car round the corner.

“Hurry up Rena otherwise we’re going to be late!” The girl in the passenger seat continued to complain about my driving even though I had already flown through several red lights just so we wouldn’t be late.

“Look if it wasn’t for you taking so long to decide what to wear then we wouldn’t be in this mess! So just shut up and let me drive!” My frustration had caused me to push even harder on the gas and the car went blitzing down the road.

“So you’re saying that you would be happy to just let me go to this wedding wearing any old rag? How can you be so insensitive about thi— Ah we just passed the church.” My foot slammed on the breaks, causing smoke to surround the vehicle as it came to a sudden halt. Bursting out of the car I grabbed Yuki’s hand rushed back down the road and up the gravelly path toward the great oak doors and opened them.

An overwhelming sense of relief hit me as there were only four other people in the room. My eyes were dazzled by the exquisite sight in front of me. Flowers were spread around the entire room looking over each of the empty wooden seats in the church. The vicar was sat at the towering organ busy looking through sheets of music for the service leaving two girls in bright dresses to chat amongst themselves in the aisle as the sunlight focused in on them.

“Ah Yuki-chan, Rena I’m so happy you made it in time.” Jurina spotted us and came marching out from the benches in her black suit. She had a huge smile on her face but there was a small amount of distress surrounding her, visible from her fiddling with the ends of her sleeves. Then again who could blame her for being nervous now; today is going to be the most important day of her life, though she would probably brush it off and say that one of her cup finals was more nerve racking. I put my arm around her shoulder and pulled her over to the side and whispered to her.

“So you ready for this? I mean you’re going to be stuck with this girl for life after today and it can get quite tiring you know.” My head was jerking towards Yuki and Jurina started giggling at my behavior.

“What are you talking about Rena? You’ve always been completely infatuated with her and I’m the exact same—”

“Yeah, yeah I know the two of you are so madly in love that nothing can go wrong but trust me Jurina once the honeymoons over she’ll change.” Jurina just continued to laugh, not believing a single word I just said, until another hand grasped a hold of her shoulder as well as mine.

“You better not be talking about me dear. I wouldn’t want you to spoil such a special day by planting one of your strange ideas in Jurina’s head.” Like a vice her grip around me started to slowly tighten.

“Of… Of course not Yuki why would I do that?” Nervously stuttering over my words I gave her a sheepish grimace. Her dark beads just stared into my eyes, telling me that she wasn’t convinced about my reply. Before Yuki could interrogate me a voice rang out from behind us.

“Jurina what are you doing, you should be— Oh Rena-san, Yuki-san I hadn’t realized that you had arrived.” The girl politely bowed causing ripples to flow down her magnificent dress. As she rose back up she lifted her veil back up to reveal an accusing look on her beautiful face. “I hope Jurina hasn’t been bothering you too much.”

“What are you talking about Mayu they are our guests of course I’m going to talk to them.” Jurina returned Mayu’s look with a glare of her own and sparks started to fly between them. Their eyes then turned to me as I started to snicker at the childish pair.

“Sorry, it’s just really funny knowing that Jurina is about to marry the person that was the first person to beat her at a football match. I mean Mayu you should have seen her, she was acting like a zombie for a week.” Everyone other than Jurina began to laugh at the thought of the energetic girl limping around in a state of depression.

“Mou Rena that was seven years ago; it doesn’t matter now.” Jurina was giving me an unappreciative look and began to whine. “Plus Mayu and I have been playing for the same pro team for almost four years now.”

“Don’t worry Jurina-chan the year after when you beat us sis just kept crying every time she saw anything that was shaped like a football.” Miyuki came skipping across with her pink one piece fluttering in the breeze. She looked really pleased as her sister’s face gradually grew scarlet.

“Knock it off Miyuki I can’t be laid back about everything like you are, football just means so much to us. That’s why we’ve won all the trophies in the pros.” At this point only the bride and groom were the ones not bursting out in laughter.

“That’s why you’re so perfect for each other sis; you’ve always been so serious about football. In fact I bet that both you have only never loved another girl until now, it wouldn’t surprise me if you both still love football more than each other!” Miyuki was playfully poking Mayu’s rosy cheeks, probing for some kind of reaction.

“Hey that’s not true! It’s now Jurina first then football’s second, though you’re right about there being no one else…” The last part of Mayu’s reply was so subdued that I could barely hear it. She then turned to Jurina and squeezed herself onto her arm. “How about you Jurina? You do love me more than football right?” Jurina just kept stammering, unable to give an answer to her lover’s question. Mayu seemed to grow angry at the lack of response so I decided to lend her a hand.

“Don’t worry Mayu-san; I know for a fact that Jurina is absolutely crazy for you. It’s quite troublesome actually since she always mentions you whenever we have a conversation. As for the second part well I’m pretty sure that you’re her first love.” These words caused Mayu to blush even more and Jurina to become even more silent.

“Well actually…” It sounded like Jurina had finally decided to say something but she was so quiet that no one else noticed her apart from me. For some strange reason she was glancing at Yuki with a guilty expression. She then shut her eyes and let out a large sigh, relieving herself of whatever stress that was pent up in her. In one swift fluid motion she yanked Mayu round and planted her lips on top of the astonished girl’s. We were all stunned into silence by Jurina’s sudden display of affection. This was the first time that I witnessed Jurina kissing another person and not only that but it was a deep passionate kiss. After what felt like an age the pair finally parted, both their grinning faces flushed with excitement.

“Well we still have several things to go through before we get married so if you’ll excuse us.” Jurina and Mayu had a spring in their step as they waltzed back down the aisle to speak to the vicar.

“Jurina looks quite relieved now.” Standing next to me Yuki had a gentle look on her face as she watched over the enthusiastic couple.

“Of course she is. I mean you remember how nervous we were during our wedding; we couldn’t even repeat what the vicar was telling us to say then!” Just thinking about that day caused me to break out in a nervous sweat.

“No Rena that was only you who was that nervous I was perfectly fine.” Sometimes I just wished she would be slightly less blunt and just humor me. Yuki just continued in a sincere tone. “But this is different Jurina looks like she’s had some huge burden taken off of her. It looked like it had been bothering her for a long time.”

“Well now that you mention it... But I mean it might be a little carefree of me but I’m sure that if it was something that she wanted me to know then she would have already told me about it. Who knows maybe its better for all of us that we don't know about it? You just said she looks like she's sorted herself out so we shouldn’t worry about it and just enjoy their special day.” I flashed a smile across to Yuki and she replied with one.

“Hmmm well I guess that’s true. I’m sure there are plenty of things that you’ve told her instead of me.” Yuki gave a small pout at the end of her sentence and sat down at one of the benches. I followed and sat next to her and leant back, reaching my arm around her back and pulling her in for a small peck on the lips.

“You can’t really blame us right? I mean we have always been the greatest of friends.”

Yay an epilogue!!! At first, I thought it was kind of weird that Jurina fell for their football enemy. But hey, people change, right? It is a good match actually, and they are teammates now, right? There should be no problems.

Jurina finally had closure, didn't she? She finally let go of her one-sided feelings for Yuki when she kissed Mayu, I think. And that's good. She can completely focus her attention on her future life with Mayu.

Thanks for this epilogue. At least now you have made Jurina happy, and in time for her birthday, too.

Wait...I'm above 50%? Really? Sugoi! Well since it's you, I'm sure you will be able to live up to my expectations. Hey, maybe even more! I'm sure you will be able to surprise me. I have complete faith in you!
Title: [nori's fanfics] X | Chapter 6 [Updated 11.03.13] [Wmatsui]
Post by: nori on March 11, 2013, 07:29:41 PM
kurosawa87: Hehe it was slightly awkward but then again it is their wedding so they can do whatever they want XD

mayuki_daisuki: Well Yuki’s character has chaned a bit since the beginning lol and I’m happy that you want more but that was the epilogue so it’s the last ever chapter of the story… Sorry to disappoint

Hikari_043083: You’re right about the pair being initial strange but then again I always felt like they could be a pair, the competitive battle between them on the pitch and the sole love for football meant it wouldn’t be ridiculous an idea, and Jurina deserves closure for making such a bold decision over Yuki.
Plus this update proves you are at least 50% and thank you so much for your flattering words but I am not worthy

A/N: Sorry for the late update people, no excuses I was just a little slow and lazy this week ;^^ Anyhow there’s a few big exciting revelations in this chapter, some sad and some nice ones, and also the return of Mayu. Again thank you all for taking the time to read this story. Really appreciate it.

Chapter 6-Hostage

-

Heavy, Jurina must’ve crawled on top of me. Again. I didn’t bother to try and get up; I just decided to continue to lie beneath her.

“Rena-chan…” Eyes still shut Jurina began to cutely mumble in her sleep. “Rena-chan I’m sorry…” Huh? What could she be apologizing about? Was she maybe dreaming about the ‘thing’ that happened yesterday? My mind was still flummoxed from exactly what happened then. Did I actually enjoy the kiss? That can’t be right. There’s no way that I’m developing feelings for Jurina. I just need her to work for me; she even said herself that she would help me take my revenge. It doesn’t matter about what happens to her after that’s done.

“I’m really sorry Rena-chan… I, no Yuu-chan…” Jurina’s muttering started to become more erratic and confusing. I could feel small beads of sweat dripping from her hair onto my neck. It must be a similar nightmare to last time but just what is it that she’s seeing and why am I in it this time? After taking several hits from her flailing arms I decided enough was enough and lifted her off of me to escape from the sofa. I went into my room and changed in to my usual fighting clothes a sleeveless top, trousers and trench coat; all of them pitch black in colour. When I returned to the room with spare clothes for Jurina she seemed to have calmed down so I decided that it would be safe to leave her here and placed the clean clothes on a table then exited out of my apartment.

Getting out of the lift I dialled Mayu’s number on my mobile. After several rings Mayu finally picked up.

“Hey Rena what are you doing calling me in the morning?” Her yawning told me that she had only just woken up.

“Hey Mayu I need to talk to you right now. I’ll be—”

“Far more polite the next time I wake someone from their sleep.” She was clearly angry and mocked me by imitating my voice.

“Whatever. Just make sure you’re ready. I’ll be at you bar in ten minutes.” I returned my phone back to my pocket and marched on down the streets to the rendezvous point.

・・・

“Late.” Mayu had a bemused look on her face as she sat on the counter. She was staring at her hand as she irately rubbed her fingers together.

“Thirty seconds, Mayu that’s it.” I was just as annoyed at her constant complaining about wasting time so I figured I would just wind her up even more. “And you should be thanking me; instead of wasting time sleeping you can do things now that I’ve woken you up.” She just hopped off and turned her back to me grumbling.

“Hmph whatever, just get on with what it is you want to talk about.” She pulled out a seat for herself and kicked up her feet, resting them atop the table. Uninvited I helped myself to a drink and sat at the counter.

“I want to know more about Jurina.” Mayu just mockingly laughed at my request and rocked back on her chair.

“Haha you’re talking about your new sidekick right? You two looked like a really cute couple yesterday at the theme park. Did you kiss at the top of the Ferris wheel?” She shut her eyes, puckered up her lips and leant toward me.

“Hey cut the crap.” I shot a glare across to her. “How do you even know about the date yesterday?” In reply Mayu just let out a dismissive tut and started tapping the side of her head in slow motion.

“You should have realized by now that everything that happens in this city goes through this mind. Then again I just thought you were dragged out by Jurina; I didn’t realize it was a date.”

“N…n-no it wasn’t a date!” She had finished her sentence with a cheeky little wink sending blushes to flare up my cheeks.

“But you just said it yourself.” Her smug face just continued to mock me as I flustered around. Dammit, she’s completely drawn me into her pace. I’m meant to be getting answers from her but instead she’s just toying with me, fooling around in order to fuel her boredom.

“J-just stop screwing around and answer my question dammit!” I slammed my glass on the counter trying to regain some sort of authority in the situation. It didn’t make much of a difference. Mayu remained cool smiling at me while twiddling her thumbs, waiting for me to phrase my question in a more polite manner. “Please can you tell me more about Jurina or more specifically exactly what is your relationship with her?”

“My relationship with her?” An eyebrow was raised at these words causing a sense unease to come over me. “What are you jealous about the fact that I’ve known her for longer? If you want me to stop talking to her then I can do that at any time for you.”

“That’s not what I mean!” Why did everything have to be so awkward and difficult? “I’m talking about the past that you share with her. How exactly did you guys meet?”

“So Jurina’s already told you about our partnership, huh?” Mayu rolled her eyes at the thought of her fun being over. “So I’m going to take a guess that you know about her dad’s death.” My head slowly rocked forward to acknowledge her comments. “Well I was also there at that station. I watched her franticly clawing at the rubble, trying to save her dad but she was too late. By the time she found him he had already passed away and she couldn’t move the body so she took his gun from him and then broke down into tears. At this point I was already working along with my father, gathering information and selling it off to whoever paid for it. In fact I had made several dealings with the group that caused the train bombings so when I saw the girl completely devoid of life I decided to give her a reason to live. Though I never thought that she would be able to destroy the entire group in a night, she truly was a demon back then and still would be if it weren’t for that…”

There was a scary glint in her eyes as she reminisced about the past. Seeing her with a serious expression wasn’t anything new but the intensity of her look this time seemed to make the air in the room thinner. It felt like she was harbouring resentment towards Jurina’s change and it was all overflowing drawing in the shadows in the room to surround herself in a pitch black aura.

“So you must know about Yuu-chan then.” Mayu let out a piercing hiss at the mention of that name, sending a shiver down my spine.

“Yeah I know of her, she’s the very last person Jurina killed before she became pitiful and soft.” Everything suddenly became a blur. I couldn’t believe the words that had just come from Mayu. How could it be true? Why would Jurina have done such a thing? My body lost all its functions and I just sat there, in silence, shaking and unable to speak. Suddenly a shrill tune rang out to fill the room and Mayu reached into her pocket for her phone.

“Watanabe speaking… Oh Jurina it’s you!” Mayu noticed my reaction to hearing that name and began to smirk as she continued to chatting. “Yeah Rena’s at my place right now. Huh, you’re at the abandoned train station?”

Without waiting to hear the rest of the phone call I dashed out of the bar and started sprinting down the street. With the wind rushing by I attempted to regain some sort of composure and piece together the information that I just received today. From everything Jurina said I couldn’t believe what Mayu had just said was true, but then again why would Mayu lie about such a thing? Both of the girls were full of secrets and neither of them intended revealing it all any time soon. Every single answer to a question just brought forth more questions and added to my confusion. This had just become another game of cat and mouse for the truth, much like my failing attempt at getting revenge for Yuki. As I continued to run down the streets my fists clenched at the thought of receiving another ambiguous answer, Jurina better be straight with me when I find her.

・・・

Upon arrival at the derelict buildings I began to search for Jurina in them. Then out of nowhere a cat landed on top of my head and let out a lazy meow.

“Train where are… Ah, Rena-chan!” Following the sound of the voice I looked up to see a dangling Jurina waving at me from the roof structures. She dropped down revolving multiple times before astonishingly bouncing back up off the ground and gracefully landing on her toes.

“Jurina, why are you wearing your clothes again? I specifically looked out a clean change of clothes for you.” Even though I had left her fresh clothes she had returned to wearing her usual dirty rags which were made to be even filthier from roaming around the rooftops of such a run-down place.

“Well I didn’t want to ruin any more of your clothes so I decided it would be better off to go back to wearing my own.” She began to dust herself down causing dirt to puff up into my face.

“Ugh watch what you’re doing otherwise you’ll still get my clothes dirty.” Coughing and spluttering I waved away the black smoke that was floating towards me.

“Hehe I’m sorry about that.” The playful wink and poking out tongue that followed suggested that she was in no way apologetic about her actions. “I promise not to do it again.” Noticing my slight twitch of annoyance Jurina switched to feign a puppy begging for forgiveness. Desperate to avoid any distraction from her adorable gaze I tightly grab her wrist and spoke in as stern a tone as I could muster given the circumstance.

“Look, stop playing around for now. I need to ask you something. Something important to do with your Yuu-chan…” Jurina tried to draw away from me at the mention of that name and an awkward silence descended between the two of us. “Jurina did you kill—” Suddenly the sound of a barrel falling echoed throughout the hall.

“What the heck?” As I turned I saw a deranged man emerge from the shadows and charging straight towards me with a knife flailing in his hand. “Crap!” Instinctively reacting I reached into my jacket for my gun but I was far too late.

“D-don’t move!” The cold iron edge being pressed up against me was trembling as the owner of the knife stammered over his words. “If you try something funny I’ll slit her throat!” Fearing for my life, cold sweat started to pour down my paling face. Images of the day Yuki was killed started flashing through my head, the serene expression that she had as she was held hostage. What on earth was it that made Yuki so calm?

“I told you not to move!” Jurina had her gun aiming straight at us and was staring into my eyes. However something was different, it wasn’t her usual confident gaze but a rather more timid stare. This was the first time that I had witnessed any sort of doubt and fear in Jurina. Her hand was shaking as much as the blade of my captor, which now had a small bead of my blood on the tip, as it pricked the side of my neck. My breathing became more erratic as the barrel of the gun became more unstable as it remained trained on to me. Jurina mouthed a few words as she shut her eyes and tightened her grip on the trigger.

“Arrggghhhh!” A searing pain tore through my leg causing it to give way and become a dead weight. After being discarded by my captor I collapsed to the ground writhing around in agony clutching onto my knee as blood came gushing out from it. Jurina fired several more shots in order to halt the crazed attacker but she failed to hit the target once and he escaped out of the building.

“Rena-chan, I’m so sorry!” Tear drops were overflowing from her face as she uncontrollably sobbed in a fit of anguish. She bit into her jacket and ripped off one of the sleeves, tearing it apart and wrapped it around my wound. “Thi-this is just like with Yuu-chan. I-I tried saving her b-but I…” Giving up on words Jurina just reverted to uncontrolled bawling and incessant howling. Fighting to overcome the pain I put my arms around Jurina and brought her closer to me so that she could have a shoulder to cry on. After we sat there for a while Jurina’s tears were starting to ease off but the pain in my leg was still not allowing me to stand.

“I-I better get you back to your apartment.” With her breathing more controlled she hoisted me onto her started heading out of the station. Learning about the truth behind Yuu-chan’s death just filled me with more confusion and sorrow. It was yet another tragic answer which resulted in more questions. How could anyone have the mental capacity to survive after suffering from so many traumatic events? Any normal person would have given up on life by now, but Jurina continued to fight on even with the guilt of murdering someone important to her. There has to be something that drove her to continue living but just what is it that gives her the strength? Could it be…me? That would explain some things but there was no previous encounter between us until recently and she refused to answer any question regarding her feelings towards me.

Still if I am the one giving her the strength to live then maybe I should help her even more. She deserves to be able to have someone to rely on and not just fight on by herself. Also having her company is something that I’ve begun to truly appreciate; the burning desire in my heart, for Yuki’s revenge, was starting to dwindle and fade away. Not to mean that I had given up, it’s just that Jurina’s existence meant I had other things to think about and it made me question whether Yuki would actually want me to do such a thing. As for supporting Jurina, well it didn’t have to be much, just the occasional gesture of encouragement like a small reward of milk or maybe even…

“Finally we’re back.” Jurina let out a tired sigh as she opened the door to my apartment and walked towards my room. Slowly approaching my bed she gently lowered me down but I couldn’t help but let out a wince at the pain of having to move my leg.

“Ah, I’m really sorry Rena-chan it must still be really painful…” There was a very telling look of guilt on her face and she was dangerously close to bursting into tears again.

“Hey you did save me right? In fact I have something for you.” Reaching out I placed a reassuring hand in her shoulder and brought her closer to me.

“Huh, what is it Rena-chan?” Right as Jurina finished her sentence I leant in to her confused face and softly combined our lips. Though she was initially shocked Jurina soon tried to reply to the kiss.

“Woah, don’t get too ahead of yourself. You did still put a bullet into my leg.” Blushing I pulled myself away before the kiss got too deep and left Jurina frowning, unable to contain the disappointment of being separated.

“Mou, fine then…” As Jurina tuned away pouting, my finger started to unconsciously rest on top of my lower lip. Without really thinking I stretched out, grasped a hold of Jurina and spun her around in one fluid motion. Forcing myself onto her we began to engage in yet another kiss but this time I allowed Jurina to return the favour. I became lost in the intense contact between us, hands frisking around exploring each other’s body. There was no more denying it this girl was no longer just a partner to me, she clearly means a lot more to me now, just as important as Yuki once was.

Simultaneously two sounds rang out from between us and we detached ourselves from each other. At the same time we took out our phones to find a message from Mayu.

“Help. Warehouse 1, the port. Now.”

Update! Wee!

Okay...okay...i think I am getting it. Yuki was in a sort of hostage situation back then. Jurina had a gun pointed but she made a wrong shot that did kill Yuki's captor. However, because of the wrong shot, the captor sort of slit/stab/plunge/pierce a knife (if he was holding one) into Yuki that resulted in her death (or if it was a gun, the captor also managed to squeeze the trigger when he got shot, killing Yuki in the process). Jurina blamed herself for it so in her mind and resolution she was the one who killed Yuki. She vowed never to kill after that. If Rena was there when it happened, that means she never got to see Jurina's face because Jurina must be wearing a hood? And she must have seen it from a wrong angle if my new assumption was correct of sorts. Jurina got to see Rena so Jurina got interested in her or something or Yuki talked about Rena at some point or something. Argh! Now I have a headache.

Nice update. Giving us bits and pieces. Keeps my imagination active. This is better than just giving it all away. People need brain exercise. I, for one, need brain exercise.

I will never retract my comment of having complete faith in you. All hail nori!!!

@kurosawa87: The bullet to the knee was a purely accidental reference, promise I didn't mean it  :nervous As for Rena well she truly finds out her place in things now and that is pretty deep in trouble.

@mayuki_daisuki: haha I wasn't expecting anyone to think of Rena as being cute in this fic but I'll take it XD Well Mayu has already screwed with everyone a lot and well Jurina hasn't had the nicest of pasts to be honest :(

@kahem: lol don't blame Mayu she's just been captured XD

@hikari_043083: You're comments they're just so  Got to quickly correct you on one thing though XD Jurina's missed shot was the thing that killed Yuki, or at least for now, and yes Rena was at the place where Jurina killed Yuki (that would be the scene at the start of chapter 3) which is why Jurina knows about Rena. I keep saying this but I'm so happy that you've put thought into this fic and I really pray that you'll enjoy these last few updates  :nervous

@geki geki: Yep Yuu-chan=Yuki ;) and soon you'll be able to witness Rena's reaction to Jurina being the killer, it's going to be quite a mess :panic: Oh and you've seen Black Cat, that's awesome! Though this fic isn't really based on it since you're right Rena is her original character completely. Jurina has certain features of Train, her feline qualities and love milk mostly XD Yuki is based on Saya since she's the one that stopped Jurina from killing and Mayu is based on... Well I won't say since it would spoil things XD Still thanks for the comment :)

@Wmatsui22: Sorry about it being sad but unfortunately things aren't going to get any happier but I'm glad you thought it was a good chapter  :)

@kurogumi: I feel like I'm being threatened here :nervous Well I guess she won't die but other than that, no guarantees  Jokes aside thank you for taking the time to comment.

@DC2805:  They've completely forgotten about that (so did I almost) since they were having so much fun XD On a random note sometimes they say it's better to not remove the bullet :nervous

A/N: Hey guys, sorry for the short chapter but it’s kind of more like the first part to the final chapter. So yeah next update will be the final one and I hope you guys enjoy this update and thank you guys for reading.

Chapter 7- X

-

“Jurina did you just get a message from—”

“Mayu. Yeah we’ve got to go save her.” Finishing off my sentence Jurina looked at my injured leg. “Or rather I should get going; you stay here and rest Rena.” Jurina leapt up headed toward the exit.

“Wait I’ll go with you.” Before I could make an attempt follow her Jurina was pushing me back down onto the bed.

“Don’t worry Rena I won’t die, not yet.” She gave me wink and rushed off out of my apartment and shouting. “See you in a bit!”

Lying in my bed I couldn’t help but worry about Jurina’s rescue mission. Only a couple of minutes had passed, since Jurina’s departure, but I felt like I had to chase after her. The wink she left me with was less than her confident self, and I could swear that was the first time she had called me just Rena. She’d been through a lot today having practically relived the moment she killed someone important to her; in fact I should be thankful that I’m alive, if it was me that had to make that shot then I would have easily made the same mistake again…

There was also something else that was worrying me. Was it right to think that Mayu is telling the truth? I don’t know about Jurina but I still have my doubts over her; she could be planning absolutely anything in that scheming head of hers and the fact that I didn’t have a single lead on what her motives were scared me. Still it would probably be worse if she really did get captured. The slippery character has a tendency to worm herself out of this sort of situation so if that hasn’t worked then it must mean the people who caught her are serious and thorough about whatever I was they wanted. Whether this was Mayu’s plan or not Jurina was definitely walking straight into a trap.

“I have to go save her…” Groaning I tried to pick myself up from the bed but my leg just kept giving way, refusing to hold up any sort of weight by sending an excruciatingly sharp pain to my head. Being trapped in my bed I got more and more agitated; finally I just decided to bear the pain and haul myself up. Rolling off the edge of the bed I fell onto the hard wooden floor. Cursing I managed to lift myself up using the bed as support and attempted to walk away, only to come crashing back down to the floor with an almighty thud.

With my throbbing red cheek pressed against the chilly ground I glanced across to see a long wooden box stretching beneath my bed. Grimacing in anguish I reached out to grab the box and yank it towards me. Taking the lid off of the box I drew out a slender curved sword, the light lustrously gleaming off of the gracefully smooth blade. Also from the box I took out a magnificent sheath with several ornate snowflakes embellished onto the case, all of them sparkling as I returned the sword to its sheath.

“Just how many times have I been saved by this sword?” Gazing at the weapon in my hand I thought about the countless number of times that Yuki bailed me out over the past. To think that she’d be helping me again from beyond the grave; a wry smile emerged as I hoisted myself up to lean on the sword and limp toward the exit of my apartment.

Doors leading to the stairs remained agape from Jurina rushing through. Hobbling into the elevator I pressed the button for the ground floor and slumped down to the ground. From just walking that short distance an intense amount of fatigue had set in and without realising it I had passed out, to end up leant against the sliding doors. The ping of arriving at the ground floor was followed with the rude awakening of tipping backwards out of the lift. With my entire body aching I somehow mustered the strength to drag myself back up onto my feet and began my slow arduous journey towards the port.

・・・

Upon arrival at the port I could hear the sound of gun fire ringing out from one of the huge rusting warehouses. By this point all the energy in my body was completely spent up, only sheer will power and Yuki’s sword was the things that prevented me collapsing flat on my face. Approaching the warehouse I crept round the door to see the room littered with countless bodies and blood splattered across the walls. Yet even with all those bodies on the ground there were still many people engaging in a massive brawl with Jurina.

Peering through the crowd I noticed a bloody Jurina dodging and weaving between her enemies desperately avoiding the various weapons being swung at her head. Too busy with the task of trying to stay alive Jurina remained unable to fire her gun and simply continued to elude the relentless attacks. Amazed by the insane speed at which things were taking place I soon realized that there was very little that I could actually do. Even if I was healthy I’d struggle to keep up with that sort of pace, the fact that I can only stand on one leg means any attempt to help Jurina is guaranteed to hamper her.

So instead of joining the fight I chose to try and search for Mayu and help Jurina from the shadows. Using the cover of various barrels and boxes I crawled around the edge of the building making sure to keep an eye on Jurina as I also looked for Mayu. My eyes frantically flickered around, struggling to find any sign of Mayu amongst all the destruction scattered across the room. Then all of a sudden I saw Jurina shoot up into the air and arch her back spraying bullets down onto the clump of bodies beneath her. However she ran out of bullets in the middle of the air and the impact of hitting the ground caused her gun to go sliding away, leaving her at the mercy of the few men that still remained.

Instinctively reacting, my hand released the sword to take out my pistol and aim at the men approaching the helpless Jurina. About to take a shot I realized the foolish mistake I just made. Having lost the only thing keeping me upright I knocked down all of the drum cans in front of me, alerting everyone of my presence before I could even fire off a single shot.

“Rena-chan, what are you doing here!” Jurina shouted in shock as everyone’s eyes flashed across to lay them upon me. Having seen a new weaker prey emerge, the pack that was once surrounding Jurina turned and charged straight towards me with their arms flailing around like crazed maniacs. Quickly counting the number of men in the oncoming wave I placed my left hand beneath the base of the gun to steady myself.

“One clip, sixteen bullets so looks like I’m going to have to make every single shot count.” Muttering under my breath I started channeling all my strength and concentration to my hands the world around began to lag behind and move in slow motion. Gritting my teeth I focused in on my targets one by one and pulled the trigger causing them crumble to the ground and halting them in their tracks.

With each shot fired my mind felt numbed, breaths became shallower and the gun in my hand felt heavier and heavier. Yet I still continued to hit my mark every time until it came to the final target. By this point my entire body was completely frozen from the excruciating pain flowing through my veins. With my hands trembling in spasms I struggled to steady myself for a clear shot. Panicking from the sight of the approaching brute I forced my twitching fingers to pull the trigger to fire the final bullet but having to focus all my strength in my right hand caused my left hand to give way and the gun to drop down and shake uncontrollably as I fired my shot.

The bullet should have missed by a mile yet the brute just stood still with a look of confusion on his face. Did I actually manage to hit him? My hopes faded when he began to move forward again with a dumb grin plastered across his face, but then he keeled towards me immediately after taking his first step towards me. Letting out a huge sigh of relief I turned to Yuki’s sword and picked myself back up again. It was then that I noticed the limp body on the ground had many holes formed across his back, blood overflowing from each of them. Shocked by seeing Jurina kill someone I slowly muttered to her.

“Jurina did you just kill him to save me…” There was a huge notion of fear wrenching at my stomach as Jurina stood there with another, older looking, pistol in her hand still pointing towards me where the brute once stood. Beyond a thin wisp of wavering smoke I could make out a solitary tear dripping down her solemn face.

“I’m really sorry Rena but it’s too late now.” With every monotonous word uttered from Jurina’s emotionless lips another wave of unease washed over me drowning out any sort of reply that I wanted to make. I stood there facing Jurina unsure of exactly what she meant or how I should react to her words. Eventually she dropped her arm to her side and stared back at me with her dark blank eyes.

“Sorry…” Jurina tossed her gun towards me and time suddenly slowed to a halt. My mind filled up with countless thoughts of dread and anxiety as the gun took an eternity to drag through the air. Why was Jurina doing this? Did she really feel that strongly about not killing people? I was woken from my thoughts as the gun rattled as it landed at my feet. Scared as to what I would find I looked down to see my quivering fears turn into incessant rage in an instant.

“I’m the one that you’re looking for.”

An update!!!!

You know, you just addressed something here that I forgot to comment about during the last comment I made. Jurina's gun with the X mark. I forgot to ask about it. When I remembered, it was already a day later when I made the comment so I did not edit anymore. Now I know that Jurina has been carrying the gun that killed Yuki all along, amd it's loaded!

We're just missing a few bits here, aren't we? Jurina only needs to explain herself properly now. I really want to know her side in this. I'm not going to tell you my guess in why Jurina chose to go after Rena. I'll just compare when you post the succeeding chapters hehehe!!!

On a side note, I like the design you thought up for Yuki's sword. Snowflake design. Snow = yuki. Kawaii!!!

Also on another side note, it would be nice if Rena can actualluy weild Yuki's sword a bit (reminiscent of SKE maruhige and that show in youtube where Rena beat the crap out of the male MC in kendo). Hehehe! Suddenly, I thought of Rena using Yuki's sword to fulfill her revenge. But that would mean killing Jurina with Yuki's sword. Would she?

Ack! I now have another headache.

See you in the next update!

@kurosawa87: Hey, that’s not true Rena did sort of help. Only thing is she now knows Jurina’s secret

@Yuki88: Yep, Jurina knew all about Rena’s past since she’s one of the most significant figure in it, being Yuki’s killer and all.

@kurogumi: You totally said it it’s a huge mess. Well it’s a tough decision for Rena between her current love and former love, if only Jurina being the killer isn’t true… and don’t worry the illusive Mayu shall make her appearance in this update and I hope you enjoy.

@Crossing Crossroads: It’s awesome that you’d do that just to comment and yeah I guess it was all a bit too real to be a coincidence, also doesn’t Yuki look like she could be called Yuu-chan or is that just me?

@hikari_043083: Well I guess such a small thing like a gun can easily be forgotten about can’t it and well Jurina’s reason isn’t actually that interesting I don’t think, though I am interested to hear you thought it would be ;) Well the snowflake was just a little thing I wanted to put in to briefly brighten things up, though I do think it’s a little bit too corny/cliché XD Also now that you mentioned Rena’s sword skills I should say that I did plan from the very beginning that Rena would end up fighting Jurina with Yuki’s sword, though some of the things I’ve written sound a little impossible to do, it’s just a case of does she kill Jurina or for whatever reason choose not to? On the bright side you won’t have any more headaches over this fic XD

@Wmatsui22: Glad you thought it was good, and prepare yourself since there’s going to be another revelation, and the small matter of Rena’s revenge as well.

A/N: The final instalment of X is here and with this it marks the end of my 2nd story. Hopefully this chapter should answer all your questions, and a shocking surprise, but more importantly I hope you guys have enjoyed the entire story and thanks for taking the time to read this and leaving comments or “thanks” Really means a lot.

Chapter 8 – Truth

-

“I’m the one that you’ve looking for. Yuu-chan’s real name was Yuki…” At my feet lay a pistol with a white cross etched into its side. Any pain that had once resided in my knee had completely vanished from the overwhelming sense of anger in my blood. The flames of revenge that had been slowly burning for the past year finally unleashed itself in a huge burst of rage and destruction. I leapt straight at the murderer and drew out the sword, swinging it at frantic speeds not caring for where I slash as long as I get to see the blood from her veins spill all over her own body. Avoiding my onslaught she jumped away and back flipped off a box to set some distance between us.

“Rena-chan I’m sorry I never meant to…”

“Don’t you dare call me by that name! You lied to me this entire time you bitch!” Her guilt laden expression just infuriated me even more. Why did she look like she was going to cry any minute? This was the person that murdered Yuki and ruined my life; she has absolutely no right to remain alive in this world, let alone feel sorry for herself now that she’s been caught as the culprit. Dropping the sword for a second I pulled out my second pistol and fired multiple shots at her only to see her flick up a drum can to block all the bullets. In a rush I holstered my gun and grabbed the sword again, charging in to take advantage of her view being blocked by the rusted barrel. Taking me by surprise the object was unexpectedly kicked towards me, forcing me to slice it open with a vertical swing upwards from my arm and knock it away with the sheath.

“Die!” Howling in anger I brought down the sword with all my might, only to swing through thin air again. This time round my target was floating over the top of my head casting a dark shadow over me before landing on top of a pile boxes just behind me. Cursing I slammed my entire body into the pile causing it to crumble and tumble down around me. The shade just bounced away leaving me to fend off all the debris that was falling on top of me with the combination of sword and sheath. Beyond the dust I could hear a voice call out to me.

“Rena-chan, why are you doing this? Yuki wouldn’t want you to do this and killing me won’t bring her back!” Ignoring the plea for forgiveness I emerged from the rubble and threw the sword like a spear straight at her head. The sword was dodged by a dive to the side but I caught her by surprise by immediately following it with another shot from my pistol. Twisting her body in such an unnatural way my target dodged the bullet but due to her movement being so forced she stumbled as she landed back on her feet. Taking this chance I gripped the sheath tightly in my left hand and buried it into her stomach, sending us crashing through the corrugated panel weakened by the sword.

Rolling around on the deserted tarmac, we exchanged scrappy fists between each other until I got sent flying by a kick to my stomach. Landing next to the sword I grasped it in my right hand and picked myself up again to match the stare from down the parking lot. Amidst the silent stand-off the unbearable pain in my leg continued to put me under heavy duress just trying to stand up. Drawing in a huge breath, I returned the sword back into its sheath and pulled it round to my hip. Turning my body to point my shoulder forwards I set my feet a shoulder length apart from each other and began to store energy in my crouching legs, preparing to pounce at any moment. This has to end now.

Twisting my foot into the ground I took off with a huge explosion and stormed forwards, the legs beneath me becoming a blur as they sped across the ground. About a meter away I threw the sword in front of me, the hilt heading straight towards her stomach until I intervened and kicked it up, causing it to spin around, lighting the space between us by reflecting the moonlight with its ornate snowflakes. Catching it in the air I took it back out of the sheath and slashed across my body using my momentum to spin round and put all my might into this one movement. The tip of the narrowly missed, chopping off a short slither of hair but by continuing my revolution I had my left hand swinging round the blind side. I smashed the sheath into the side of the midriff, my entire weight powering this strike. With the wind knocked out of her, the limp body collapsed forward onto her hands and knees. The opponent helpless and struggling for air, I knocked her over to lie on her back so that I could pin her by straddling her stomach and holding her neck and arms with the sheath.

“You knew everything from the very beginning! Why did you have to associate yourself with me? If you don’t want me to kill you, you should have just left me alone!” I screamed at the motionless statue beneath me. “Why did you do this to me!”

“Getting revenge doesn’t solve anything! I can understand that you can’t forgive me for what I’ve done but what are you going to do after you kill me? You’ll still be consumed by the evil, nothing will change; I don’t want you to make the same mistakes that I did. Let me fulfil my promise to Yuki and save you!”

“Stop it! Just stop with your excuses!” With both hands I lifted the blade directly above Jurina’s body and brought it back down with a tremendous howl…

Sobbing I rolled off the motionless body to lie on the chilly tarmac beside it. Gazing up at the sky through the tears I could see the stars being gradually enveloped by the ominous clouds drifting in from the sea. Continually weeping, I turned my head to stare at a thin reflection of my teary eyes in the sharp mirror beside me. Leaning across with my left arm I wrapped my fingers round the hilt and yanked the blade out, tossing it away to the side.

“W-why Jurina… Why won’t you let me get my revenge?” My tearful words were matched by a forgiving stare and a warm hand caressing my wet cheek. Jurina moved her arm around me to gently guide me up along with her as she sat up. She then brought her other arm around and held me in a tight embrace.

“I’m sorry, Rena-chan... This wouldn’t be a problem if I hadn’t been so reckless then but we both know that Yuu-chan wouldn’t want us to kill anyone, especially not each other. The fact that I killed her doesn’t change and I thought about joining her so many times but then she also told me to help you so I decided to try even though I’m the one that you were searching for…” I could feel tiny droplets soaking my back as Jurina began to cry. I put my own arms around her and wailed into her shoulder, the two of us sitting there with relentless tears flowing out from our eyes. “At first I was scared about seeing you but after being with you I realize why Yuu-chan asked me to save you. I know that I’ll never be able to replace her but please accept my feelings and let me keep my final promise to Yuki and protect you for her.”

“Tch, you two really are useless aren’t you.” Surprised at hearing this familiar voice I turned to see Mayu emerge from the dark alley between two of the warehouses. Considering she had been a hostage this entire time she looked alarmingly clean, completely unharmed in fact, but more worryingly she had Jurina’s crossed pistol in her hand pointing directly at us. “You’ve both killed hundreds of people between so why is it that you both struggle so much to kill at least one more? Looks like I’m going to have to get my hands dirty again.”

Sensing the danger Jurina and I made an attempt to break away from each other, only that I found that I no longer had any energy to get up and my right leg was completely numb with pain. Right as Mayu fired a shot at me Jurina dove straight towards me to knock me out of harm’s way. Tumbling along the gravel I saw Jurina on the writhing on the ground, clutching onto her shoulder in considerable agony.

“Why did you have to become weak Jurina? Why couldn’t you just have continued on your path of destruction, murdering every single one of these pieces of garbage that dare to taint the earth with their existence. It’s people like this that killed our fathers that day!” Mayu’s black eyes were unusually filled crazed emotions of hate and frustration; she continued to stroll towards us with a twisted smirk stretched across her face firing more bullets into the helpless Jurina.

“Information alone isn’t enough to kill people, I needed someone with power to help me and you were the perfect tool Jurina. Back then you were the only person more desperate to eradicate the criminals for what they had done. The hatred that constantly burned in your eyes back then was so magnificent; I truly believed that we could destroy everything. Then you met that blabbering witch and chose to listen to the nonsense she spouted about not killing those who deserved death. That beautiful killing intent you once had soon become lost under the ridiculous wishes of sparing people, and you remained that way even after I got rid of that naïve girl.” Did I hear that right? I thought it was Jurina that killed Yuki. How could it have been Mayu that killed her? Seeing our stunned faces Mayu began whirling the gun around her finger and started snickering away in amusement.

“Truth be told, I never intended to frame you for her death, I just wanted her out of my way, so when I saw the sniper kill her just as you fired it gave me a handy back up plan.” Twirling on the ball of her foot Mayu came to point the gun at me. “That’s when I thought that if Jurina became too soft then you can kill her for your own supposed revenge. But even with all my help you still managed to fail, still you can have another go if you like.” With her left hand imitating a gun she pretended to shoot herself in the head with it and sounded a small bang as she swung her head to the side. “Firstly let me just deal with the helpless kitty over there.”

Jurina was sprawled across the ground in a truly bloody sight, crimson liquid seeping out from the countless cuts and wounds all over her body. Giggling in a deranged manner Mayu turned again to face Jurina and fired yet another shot at the suffering girl. Hearing Jurina’s shrieks I gripped my pistol and yanked at the trigger several times only to hear it click several times to no effect.

“I have to save her.” Gritting my teeth I forced my body to overcome the fatigue and stand up again. Holding the gun by the barrel in my hand I scrambled forwards and sprint straight towards the hooded figure that was laughing as she continued to fire her gun. Roaring in sheer outrage I swung my arm at Mayu’s back to knock her and Jurina’s gun onto the ground. Sliding past Mayu I swapped the two pistols then turned back to grasp a hold of her collar and point the gun at her head. “Yuki had nothing to do with you yet you killed her!” My entire body was trembling in hatred as the despicable face in front of me still had a confident smirk on her face. The finger around the trigger slowly tightened its grip as I pressed the barrel up against the temple of her head.

“R…Rena-chan… Don’t do it… You’re better than…” Before Jurina could finish her words, her head collapsed as her entire body became totally limp.

“Jurina!” Without wasting any time I took the butt of the gun and slammed it into the very spot that the barrel was not long pressed up against. After knocking Mayu out I released her body so that she just slumped down onto the ground and rushed across to Jurina’s motionless body. “Jurina, open your eyes! Please wake up; I don’t want to lose you like Yuki.” My grip on her shoulders grew increasingly tighter as I frantically shook her, desperate for any sort of small sign of life. As a small tear drop fell from my eye on to her cheek the clouds above us stirred and the floodgates opened, drenching us both in heaven’s tears.

“R-Rena-chan?” Jurina stirred up as the rain bounced off her cheeks and washed away the blood from her. Gazing up at my upset face a gentle yet faint smile formed across Jurina’s face as she pointed up at the sky. “Do you think I’ll be able to meet Yuu-chan up there?”

“No you won’t. You’re going to stay with me here and we’re going to visit Yuki together.” I immediately squeezed her hand and brought into my chest crying at the thought of losing Jurina. “I love you Jurina and I refuse to lose you in the same way that I lost Yuki.” By now my words were barely audible from my incessant sobbing and relentless rain. In reply Jurina slowly lifted her weakened hand and wiped away my tears.

“I love you too Rena-chan but I’m sorry, I might not make it…” Just like that her eyes shut again and her hand slid down my cheek to rest on my shoulder leaving me to cry into the eternal night with the cold body cradled in my arms.

END

A/N: Hopefully that crazy ending hasn’t ruined the rest of this story, I honestly don’t know what suddenly possessed me to write that and I can only apologise for my madness. I will be writing an epilogue for this but I think I might set up a poll regarding this as well. Again I’m going to say thank you to everyone who read this and I hope you enjoyed it. Next will be my first attempt at the Mayuki pair! Of course there will also be the side pair of Wmatsui included.

I think I kinda despise you for killing Jurina, I mean, Rena had just forgiven her, and suddenly Mayu comes and kills her...

Nevertheless the story was good, and that was a very interesting plus unexpected plot twist; *sigh* I don't like this ending, but I understand that sometimes there has to be a sad ending in certain stories, so I guess it's not actually that bad...

Overall, I loved this, your writing style is amazing (just my humble opinion), so I'm definitely sticking around for your Mayuki fic, even if they're not my OTP.

Holy!!! So, there was a sniper all along? Mayu hired a sniper to kill Yuki. It was actually 2 shots fired at the same time so no one suspected a sniper. So in a way, it was not really Jurina's fault. It only looked like it was Jurina's fault. Aw, man....

And Yuki told Jurina to take care of Rena. Those were her dying words to Jurina, correct? That's why Jurina got interested in Rena. I see. I see. Well my thought back then was very simplistic. Haha! That's why I really did not want to tell you. But I'll tell you now. It might really be disappointing for you. Anyhoo, I thought that Jurina saw Rena that day and knew that she was Yuki's partner. She took interest to know what kind of person Yuki was with at the time so she went after Rena and dun..dun..dun..fell in love with Rena along the way. Ahahaha! Cheesy, corny and totally unimaginative me. Told you it was poorly thought. Disappointing, isn't it?

Anyway, I'm still happy you had Rena use Yuki's sword. That revolving technique kind of reminds me of one of Kenshin Himura's battou jutsus (minus the throwing and catching, just the spin part) if I had imagined it correctly. Kinda like a modified Sou Ryu Sen? Since in Sou Ryu Sen, it's the sheath that damages and not the blade.

All in all, you made me happy. It's okay if I got headaches thinking about your fic. Like I said, we need to think to stimulate our heads. And if getting a headache is a side effect, then it's okay.

I'll be sure to check out your epilogue for this. And I'll be reading your upcoming Mayuki as well. Rena still needs peace and closure. Maybe she will bury Jurina beside Yuki. She should just fight a la Dante. Dual pistols with a sword in cosplay hehehe! Here I go again. I'm going off topic now, aren't I?

BTW, I don't know if I missed it or not, but Jurina seems to have lost her cat. Is it dead?

but i will looking forward for your another fanfic :D

ps: it's look like i'm used many but in my comment. sorry

Title: [nori's fanfics] X | Epilogue [1st Ending] [Updated 29.03.13] [Wmatsui]
Post by: nori on March 29, 2013, 08:52:33 PM
@kurogumi: Well Rena won’t be fine but she’ll cope or try to. Plus I’ll get working on that Mayuki soon. Thanks for the comment.

@atsuminaFTW: Well what I’m about to do probably won’t help either but I think it’s better to post what I view as the true ending before the one people voted for, since having Jurina stay alive seems a little too miraculous. But not to worry since I’ll upload the alternate ending as well. I also feel extremely humbled by your kind words; I just hope the next fic can live up to whatever expectations you have. Thank you for the comment.

@hikari_043083: Well I did say you were very close to working out what happened back then, heck what you said was perfect in terms of what Rena and Jurina experienced. Also I was tempted for Mayu to be the one that took the shot but I guess that’s just way too cruel for people who have Mayuki as their OTP.
And your reason for why Jurina met with Rena it’s good; in fact I thought the exact same thing initially! Unfortunately when I set out a timeline of things it seemed better to have Jurina act upon Yuki’s wishes. So yeah I don’t think it’s poorly thought since I was so close to writing the exact same.
I’m glad that you liked the fact that Rena used Yuki’s sword since I had so much thinking and writing about those various attacks especially the one that was like the Sou Ryu Sen, though I didn’t think about it being so similar until you mentioned it now.
Well I guess I’ve done something strange with the epilogue but don’t worry Rena will have some form of closure, plus Jurina’s cat will return as well though it is kind of like a stray just drifting in an out when it wants to I definitely didn’t just forget about it while writing about the action.
Still thanks so much for all your comments; they’re such good fun to reply to as well :)

@Wmatsui22: Well there’ll be two more updates one where Jurina is dead and the other where she isn’t. Unfortunately there’s no road to redemption for Mayu, at least not in this story. Thanks for the comment though

@gekiragakuen: Haha no worries I tend to use those a lot of them as well XD But I’m glad you took the time to read my fic and I’m sorry for the sad story but I’ve always wanted to write a darkish fic. Don’t worry though my next fic is likely to be a lot happier than this. So thanks for the comment :)

A/N: I’ve seen the poll results and I guess it doesn’t surprise me that you guys didn’t want Jurina dead. So I’ve decided to write two endings for this fic. The first epilogue will be the one with Jurina dead since this is the one I have ready, plus I think it fits better even though it may be slightly sad. Still I’ll make sure I post the alternative ending at some point as well, though I may finish the prologue of my next fic first. Sorry about all this.

Epilogue

Strolling across the grass I climbed up wards toward the cherry tree, staring up at the ocean blue sky behind it. Yet the sun was constantly being hidden by the thick white clouds drifting along with the gentle breeze that was causing my hair to flutter up behind me. Amazed by my flowing locks the jet black atop my shoulder leapt off, trying to grab onto a strand with his claws.

“Hey Train cut it out its just hair!” I exclaimed, giggling at the playful cat’s silly actions. Crouching down I picked him back up, forming a cradle with my arms as I ruffled the fur on his back. “I guess you’re not used to long hair since you’ve been with Jurina all this time.” Meowing, the cat just lifted its soft paws over his face; giving me a dazed stare through its tiny slits as I grabbed him by the scruff of his neck.

With the cat back on my shoulder I had my hands free to begin untying the rope that was strapped over my other shoulder. Reaching the top of the hill I was met by a storm flower petals, all scattering off away into the distance. Beneath the towering tree was a grey stone pillar with several words engraved into it. Before I got any closer I reached round my back to grab the sword which was about to fall from the loosened rope.

“Looks like I have to give up Yuki, but I guess that’s what you want.” In my hands was Yuki’s old sword. With Mayu having been apprehended now it was no longer possible for me to do anything. Though I’m sure Yuki’s glad that I didn’t taint her beautiful sword with blood that night. Sighing I set down the sword in front of the grave, the dwindling snowflakes on the sheath had entirely lost the illustrious glow it once had as if it knew that it had served its final purpose and was now fading away, and reached into my jacket to take out Jurina’s old pistol tears starting to slide down my cheeks. I remained crouched down and placed the gun to rest on top of the sword and watched Train hop back off of my shoulder to begin longingly scratch at the cold dark metal.

I fell back onto the grass staring up at the flowery tear drops floating down all around me. With tears welling up in my eyes I shut them so that they would stream down the side of my face. My mind started to blackout, the reality of my situation slowly sinking in. Neither of them would want me to be constantly mourning over them but I can’t help it. Both of them meant so much to me, in fact they both meant the same thing to me, I loved them. Still their right, eventually I’ll have to move on for my own sake but for now I just want stay here and reminisce every moment I shared with them. I’m sure they won’t mind.

Ah...Yuki's gravestone. I see. I guess it's time for Rena to stop all the killing since Mayu had already been apprehended. It's good. She got some sort of closure. And...Rena now owns Jurina's cat hehehe!!!! It was still alive! I thought I had missed a part where it got killed or something hehehe!!!

Wow...my guess why Jurina wanted to meet Rena was okay? I thought for sure it was crazy. Wow! For you to accept such a guess is a big honor for me! Sugoi!!!

Well, I'm definitely going to wait for the alternate ending. I want to see what would it be like if Jurina lived (cute, romantic WMatsui moments with a tsundeRena?).

Thank you so much for replying to my comments as well. I am not so sure if I am going overboard with my comments because I rarely comment on the fics I read. But your fic just had something that pushed me to comment. I could not stop myself from commenting. Your fic intrigued me so much that I even thought a lot about it. That's why I think you are such a wonderful writer. Thank you so very much for giving me some of your time.

I'll be sure to read your upcoming Mayuki as well.

It's so sad that Jurina died here but I also like the cat in the scene.

It's kind remind me of Jurina's cat smile. :D

This is a very good story of WMatsui. :D

Thank You for making this story!

Thanks also Nori-san for replying my comment. It's so nice of you :D
Title: [nori's fanfics] X | Requested Epilogue [Alt Ending] [Update 02.04.13] [Wmatsui]
Post by: nori on April 02, 2013, 03:49:05 AM
@mo-chan:  :D Its awesome that you found this interesting and liked the fic but I have a sneaky feeling that you'll enjoy my next fic more just because of Mayuki... Jokes* I know that you liked this fic and thanks for reading  :)

@kurogumi:  I think I might cheat a little here and say pretty much the same thing as above well who knows its great to have such enthusiastic readers though XD And once again thank you for the comments  :)

@gekiragakuen:  Thank you for the compliment and I guess you are right in that the 2nd epilogue is slightly happier since Jurina is alive but it will not be an overly happy affair, this fic just doesn't suit that sort of fluffy atmosphere  :nervous

@hikari_043083: Well I thought Yuki's (and I guess now also Jurina's) resting place would be the perfect place to finish things, or maybe it could have been the place where Yuki actually died? Dammit maybe I should have done that! :panic:
Now that I also think about it kind of feel like having Mayu in prison is like a cop out just feels like I could have spent more time on it and given her a more meaningful ending rather than she just got put behind bars. Well I guess its sort of too late now, just got to pray people are happy with the current endings  :nervous
This 2nd ending is happier but it will not exactly be a cute romantic Wmatsui moment, more of a deep sad romantic moment maybe? Plus another small playful appearance from Jurina's ever illusive cat.
And it should be me that feels honoured and humbled that you've taken time to not only read this but to comment and put some real thought into the things that I write. It makes me so happy that you found this so interesting  that you kept leaving such wonderful comments. Also do not worry about how long they are, as you can see I also try to write big long replies to comments as well. I've kind of made it my mission to always give personal replies to anyone who comments, as well writing a good story.
But enough of that, I better finish with a big simple thank you.

@Wmatsui22: Well that cat scene was inspired but Jurina's playful nature so I am glad it translated to you as well :) And thank you for reading the story and leaving comments. I enjoy being able to see the feedback from readers and being able to reply to all these awesome comments :D

A/N: Well you guys wanted it so here it is the 2nd Happy? Ending to this fic with Jurina having survived Mayu's onslaught that night. Its a similar setting to the first epilogue so I apologise for that and to be honest it still isn't the happiest of endings XD I guess I focus more on the melancholy of things  :nervous This is definitely the final update for this fic though and I really I hope everyone enjoyed it, and thank you very much for reading/thanking/commenting :) Now its onto the next story!

Alternative Epilogue

Standing atop a hill I looked out across the golden fields being slowly illuminated by the sun rising from beyond the horizon. A flurry of leaves drifted from behind me carrying with them the soothing sent of spring as they floated away into the distance. I turned to face a white stone pillar that was sitting just beneath the stooping tree and strode straight towards it.

Sighing I set down the sword in front of the grave, the dwindling snowflakes on the sheath had entirely lost the illustrious glow it once had as if it knew that it had served its final purpose and was now fading away. Wiping away the tears I got back up to find an unexpected visitor sitting on top of the grave.

Without an invitation the black cat bounced up onto my shoulder, letting out a lazy yawn as it stuck out its tongue and licked my cheek. Satisfied with its greeting the cat hopped off my shoulder and dashed away to climb up on top of a shoulder beside a familiar face.

“Jurina you’re supposed to be in hospital!” I shouted at the hobbling girl as she pulled herself towards me with her crutches. Jurina was wrapped in various bandages from head to toe and her light blue clothes were fluttering in the wind.

“Don’t worry about the hospital though they don’t know I’m gone.” She just gave me a wink as she continued to move towards me. Just as she went by me she took a large stumble toward the tree. Somehow I managed to leap forwards and catch her in my arms before she hit the floor. “Hehe thanks Rena-chan.” There was a nervous laugh from Jurina as I helped her regain her balance.

“Mou Jurina, why do you have to be so reckless all the time?” I pouted in complaint only to have another pair of lips quickly gloss over mine. Surprised by the sudden contact my face became a flushed shade of pink. “Jurina you can’t do that here!”

“Huh, why Rena-chan? There’s no one else here.” She then glanced across to the cat that was scratching at her crutches. “Oh and don’t mind Train he’s totally oblivious to most things.”

“No Jurina I’m not shy because of the cat! Well to be honest it is a bit strange… But more importantly, we’re in front of Yuki’s grave.” My finger was pointing at the white pillar which now had Yuki’s old sword resting just in front of it. For a split second Jurina’s face carried a slightly unnatural more serious expression but it soon disappeared to be replaced by her more typical cheery smile.

“That’s even better then.” Grabbing a hold of my arm Jurina stared straight at smooth face of the stone. “Look Yuu-chan I’ve kept our promise, in fact I’ve got something else to say as well.” Her grip around me grew tighter as we inched a little closer to the grave. “I’m going to keep protecting her because Rena-chan’s my girlfriend now.”

It took me a while to register exactly what the chirpy voice had just said. We just stood there in a strange silence waiting for my brain to gradually process some sort of response to the confession.

“Err… Jurina did you just say..?”

“Rena-chan is going to be my girlfriend from now, that way it’ll be so much easier to protect you all the time.” Her face was full of joy and excitement but there was also a stern tone in her voice which made her intentions clear. “Also that kiss we had in your room before you tried to chop my head off was just so…” This time round her words trailed off as her face flared up to be a deep shade of crimson. I guess I’d completely forgotten about that moment then, I just got so caught up in the fight that night that I lost almost all recollections of that wonderful moment.

“If that’s the case then...” Clasping together Jurina’s fidgeting hands between my own I gazed at the words engraved into the stone. “Yuki I’d like you to meet my new girlfriend Jurina, but I guess you’ve already met.” A solitary tear emerged from my eye and slid down face; with emotions flowing over I drew Jurina into me squeezing her tight against my own body as I sobbed into her shoulders.

“Promise me that you’ll let me protect you as well…” Jurina didn’t say anything in response to my tearful request, but then again she couldn’t. The soft warmth of her kiss was more than enough to tell me that we would have to protect each other for quite a while. Who knows I might actually be lucky and have to protect her forever.

FIN

Random note: I thought April Fool's day was the first?

Huzzah!

No worries, nori-sama, I think Yuki's final resting place is already a perfect place to end things. No need to use the place where she died.

About Mayu's ending. I think putting her behind bars is okay. Since this world uses violence and stuff, let's just think that she gets life imprisonment without parole or she gets lethal injection real soon. Writing about it might make Mayu oshis hate you so I guess it's okay to leave it at that hehe!

And this alternate ending IS a cute ending for me. Jurina boldly kisses Rena and announces their relationship in front of Yuki (in crutches and bandages). Now that is cute and epic at the same time hehe! Jurina must be some kind of super powered ninja. She managed to escape from the hospital without being noticed while limping in crutches and bandaged from head to toe. She also managed to walk a field and climb a hill. That's really super. Maybe love empowered her or something hehe!

I think it's a good alternate ending. Rena has a much clearer closure in this. No more killing because Mayu is locked up in prison and Jurina is now with her to keep her from killling. There is no need to shed blood anymore. If they are going to continue their work, maybe Rena can learn Jurina's non-killing-gunshots. Or she should just stick to using Yuki's sword minus any beheading. Or maybe they should just find another different job altogether where guns are not involved. All in all, I say everything is already in order.

Side note: I have already read your Mayuki prologue. I am going to comment on that after the first chapter gets released hehe! And yes, April Fools is the first.

All hail, nori-sama!!!

Truthfully, I really enjoyed the first ending better than the second one.  :onionwhip:
I prefer stories that end sadly, especially ones that have the good ones dying. It's somehow rare... or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough? :hiakhiakhiak:
Anyway, I've been reading this silently even in Akblasphemy's blog. Now that it has finished, I decided that I should comment about it.

What I really like about this fic is the way it's written. It always kept me on the suspense, waiting for the next update in disappointment that it ended too soon. Even now, I feel like asking you to wrie more chapters despite it being finished. :hiakhiakhiak:

The next one is because of the suspense it kept. I was always wondering to myself, eager to find out who was Yuuchan's killer. I wanted to read about how Rena would act once she have found that person. Would she kill them, or would she let them go because she's fallen for Jurina and finally decided to stop dirtying her hands with blood. Reading that it was Jurina who killed Yuki left me really speechless and confused then. I found it really unexpected that Yuuchan was in fact Yuki.

Following that is the story's twists.
1) Yuuchan was Yuki
2) Jurina was the killer [but that didn't really surprise me much because it was somehow predictable in a way]
3) Mayuyu planned it all

Mayuyu as the mastermind was probably the most surprising one of all. It was just like... out of the blue! I never expected it! She was just so... wow. It really was the best twist. I'm sorry, Nori-san if I'm a bit repetitive.

Okay, lastly? The ending.
I loved the ending! It was sad, but it was satisfying to read that someone still died.

Nori-san... You're an amazing writer. I really admire you!  :luvluv2:

If I didn't hopped around here I would never learn about this alternate end. And I see you're making a tricky poll too.

I liked this end, it was cute and all, but I don't know... the first end fits the story ambient more. It was sad, made me cry. But sometimes all we need is a sad end.

I can't actually choose a favourite one but I'll pick the first one.

Once again thank you for this awesome fic and I'll be looking forward to you next one  :twothumbs

Hey guys how have you all been doing? Firstly I gotta say sorry for anyone who is reading my new fic, its taking me a little while longer than I thought to get started but hopefully I’ll have it done as soon as I can. Secondly this’ll probably be my last post on this fic, unless I get more comments that I can respond to. Finally thanks to everyone for voting in the silly little poll I set up and reading, doesn’t matter if you left a comment or not since I love you all :deco:

@hikari_043083: Firstly you have to stop with the -sama’s, just nori is fine, otherwise my ego will become uncontrollable XD Jokes aside though, now that I think about it the first ending could have been at the place of Yuki’s death, it kind of feels a little cheap using the same setting twice.
Haha, and I guess the less we talk about Mayu’s fate the better then. Well I guess its as cute as you can really get in front of a grave, but as long as it leaves some sort of impression on you then that’s awesome. Though I think the amount of milk that Jurina has drank is the real reason for her speedy recovery but then the power of love is a lot nicer to think about.
Who knows about what the future holds for the two of them, I might revisit this fic again sometime, not too sure really but for now I think I’ll just focus on the new one. Oh and I’m glad you’ve checked it out and I look forward to an awesome comment once I eventually update it.

@DC2805: No problem, I think a lot of us are a bit of a sucker for a happy ending including me sometimes. Cheers for the comment.

@kurosawa87: That’s great since you could so easily not like either. Thanks for the constant commenting

@karomuwi: Really? That’s so awesome since I also prefer sad endings though I think stories with one of the main characters dying is fairly rare, I don’t think I’ve seen one yet so I just chose to write one.
Well I guess I try to keep the suspense with cliffhangers so that you readers keep coming back to read the next part and who knows I might pick this up again sometime and write more. Though I did do something strange in that I wanted it to be fairly obvious and predictable that Jurina killed Yuki since there was always going to be that unexpected twist of it being Mayu who actually killed Yuki.
So yeah I’m still fairly new to the whole writing fics thing so receiving such a lovely comment like this is really encouraging. Thank you very much :)

@Wmatsui22: Glad you liked the final WMatsui moment since I guess if I think about it that was sort of my first ever proper cute/emotional WMatsui moment I guess? Anyhow thank you for commenting!

@BbSis: Well its lucky that you managed to spot this here since I was never going to post it on the AKBlasphemy blog and yeah I guess it is a bit of a mean question since I personally think that the two endings are nice in their own way. Then again I wrote them both so I’m a tiny bit biased about them, though I do definitely prefer one because of it was the original ending. Also thanks for the comment and I look forward to more of your comments.

@geki geki: Its nori-san or nori-kun lol I’m a dude XD That aside I’m glad you found the chapters just the right length for you.
