Filing Under "A" ON HOLD
« on: March 26, 2012, 11:19:04 AM »
Chapter 1

The clock alarm woke everyone in the house with loud ringing and she looked over to see the time was now to face her fear.  Takahashi Ai had survived schooling for the past twenty years of her life and her real obstacle was to face the world with a new glimmering image of working.

She saw her new clothing that she had bought two days ago and smiled as the butterflies were fighting for space in her stomach.  She picked out a white shirt and a black jacket with a matching skirt that was cut above her knees.  As she lay out the outfit, a knock came from outside, and she answered to her step-sister Aika who was still rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

“Are you excited?”  Ai grinned bigger than usual and told her to get ready for school as she stepped into the shower to rinse of the residue of her slumber.

Aika observed her older sister walking into the bathroom and entered the room.  She sat on her bed looking at the clothing wanting to cry out for her.  She envied her for the work ethic she had put into her work wherever she was employed.

The few times she had seen her to her job, she never imagined she would take every issue onto her back and smiled without saying a hurtful word.  Aika knew internally she would lash out at someone and if she was the victim, it would give her insight to the working world as she was now looking for a job.

Before Aika could look up, her sister was wrapped up in a towel with a smirk on her face as she walked past her and locked it behind her.  She walked into the living room with breakfast on the table with their mother placing the apron on the kitchen table.

“Is your sister coming down soon?”  She asked as they looked toward the hallway.

“She is getting ready, mom.”  Aika said in a low voice as she scooped her rice for her and Ai.

Aika took the first piece of meat and chew it carefully as Ai came out with her hair up in a bun and wearing heels that were much too high for her but Ai managed to stumble toward the table without crashing.  She took big pieces of food and swallowed as fast as she could and took sips in between until her stomach was filled to her content.

“Thank you.  I will be going now.”  Ai grabbed her purse but her mother’s voice halted her from leaving and her sister grabbed her bag to follow her out.

“Ai-chan, wait up for me.”  Aika yelled as she caught up and leaned onto Ai.

“Aika… I need to hurry up to the train, if we miss it, I will miss my first day.”  Ai scolded as Aika led the way to station.

The people were being packed into the train and luckily they got into the car before the train left.  Ai kept her mind on her first day while Aika held her sister like a doll, wrapping her arms around her waist, as they waited for their stop to get off.

She closed her eyes and imagined the pleasant people at her workplace but her sister’s embrace felt tighter than usual and pried her off her body as she presented a cruel smirk and the rush of people came flooding out.

“Let’s go nee-chan~” Aika pushed Ai out and guided her out to the big city surrounded by huge buildings.

Aika turned right from the station while Ai headed straight as she stride closer to the building and stared at the top for a few seconds before walking through the automatic doors and was greeted by two receptionists who handed her a temporary pass into the building.

She took out a slip of paper from her pocket and saw the floor she needed to go to and found her riding up quickly until it abruptly stopped on her floor.  She stuck her head out and walked down the corridor to glass doors.

“Takahashi-san, please come with me.”  The voice came from behind her and she was grabbed to the corner of the floor where three people were smiling at her appearance.

“Here is your new workmates.  They are very excited to have you as a valued member on the team.”  Ai took a seat next to the youngest of the group and looked around as she was amazed with the area.

“You should introduce yourself.”  Ai wide-eyed stood up and started to introduce her as a graduate from Fukui School of business.  She moved to Tokyo a year ago with her family after her mother was married again and mentioned about her younger step-sister.

The person across of her was shorter than her and had her glasses fixed on the bridge of her nose as she greeted with her name, Yaguchi Mari.

The person to the right of her was more open of the group as she was impressed by her fashion choice and liked her pencil in her brownish hair.  She extended her hand to be introduced as Goto Maki.

The last of the group was reserved with her work and looked up to give her a glance at Ai as she printed out a spreadsheet so she could look at it.

“This is very important, this is all the information needed for now, and when the IT person comes in we can start working on the computer.  As for now, we want you to sort out the papers.”  She pointed towards the tall stack and Ai sat in front of the stack as she went through it.

“Kaorin, you should tell her how to do it.”  The older lady scoffed and instructed Ai to look at the numbers on the top right corner and sort with the three first numbers.

Ai felt unsure about her progress but Yaguchi and Goto were open to manage their workload and help her organizing the huge stacks of paper.

An hour later, a man walked into the room with four pairs of eyes aiming towards as Ai turned to find a man standing in front of her.

“Can you set up your passwords?”  He asked as Ai dropped the stack in her hand on the spare table and entered the information on the paper as quickly as she could and let him finish up his job.

Ai went back to her work but the other two were giggling towards him.  She wanted avoid the attention of him working on her computer but the constant giggling were getting on her nerves and turned around to see what he was doing.  She saw a bunch of windows opening and downloading all the software.

“You must be new here, I’m Jun, the tech guy.”  He introduced himself as he fixed his collar and checked on the progress of the software updates.

“Hello.  I’m Ai.”  She said as she headed back to her work while Yaguchi was enticed by him.

“Don’t you like him?”  Ai shook her head.

“He is okay but I prefer to concentrate on my work.”  Yaguchi grinned as she kept elbowing her until Ai gave into the budging.

“Yaguchi!  Let her do her work, we are way behind with sorting and do you have the list of folders we need to pull for today?”  Kaorin’s eyes were like lasers as she dropped off the list to her dismay and she called for the new employee to come up with her.

Ai slowly walked toward the older woman and climbed up the stairs to the second level where the folders were labeled by numerical order.  She looked at the list of number and pulled whatever she could and handed it over to Kaorin who dropped it off into a basket that slowly went down with the weight.

“I got it, thanks Ai-chan.”  Goto grabbed the folders and flip through each of precisely finding the information.

Ai was aware that she was needed to learn a lot about the department as the three were busy with their work and finally popped up a prompt on her computer to restart thus everyone surrounded her.

“Takahashi, good job on the sorting but we need you to research into the accounts, we will point out the information needed, and later you can correct it if needed.”  Kaorin instructed as Ai looked up and noticed only an hour and half had passed since she came in and realized she needed a break.

Ai walked out of the room and into the break room where she bought a juice box.  She drank it quickly and entered into her computer.  Kaorin set up the software and pointed to what she had to look at as she wrote everything down and the details she had to know.

She opened the first folder and found everything with ease but the second one was cluttered and the paper was mixed with unnecessary documents.  After sorting it out, the information made no sense to and showed to Yaguchi who traced the information broken between two pieces and reprinted it out for Ai as one page.

The place had grown silent after the initial panic and looked up to see that it was almost lunch time.  She closed the folder and left out the document for after lunch but Kaori stopped her and grabbed her on the arm.

“Can you get me a plate of yakisoba?  The place is down the street.”  She smiled and offered her 1,000 yen for her contribution.

Before she could say anything, Kaori laughed at her facial expression and instructed her to get one for both of them as a gift from her.  Ai nodded and took the elevator down to lobby and walked down the street to find a small line forming.  She waited patiently until she put in her order and the people handed it over quickly.  Ai asked for a bag to the discontent of the workers and placed it carefully in her bag to carry it back to the workplace.

She was surprised by the size of the meals and took a sniff of the food which made her glad of the suggestion.  She walked into the building but one of the receptionists flagged her down and brought her over to the desk.

“I was wondering… if you need a friend.”  The brown-haired one asked.

“I don’t mind but I need to get this back to my co-worker.”  Ai excused herself and left for the elevator as the other one snickered at her partner.

Ai paced back to her department and handed her meal to Kaori as the other two stared at her with sandwiches in their hands.

“I wish Kaori would buy us lunch…”  Yaguchi said out loud as the elder woman showed her fist at her.

The group laughed as Yaguchi suffered the torture of Kaori’s stare for the lunch period and the person who escorted Ai came in with a smile on her face.

“Ah Nakazawa-san, checking up on the new worker?”  She nodded.

“Of course, are you guys teaching her the ropes?”  They all nodded as she noticed the clean desk next to Goto.

“I guess it could be dirtier.”  Nakazawa commented as she waved to Ai.

After her visit, Ai-chan placed her half-eaten food to the side and looked over at her phone to see a message from Aika as she was sitting down waiting for temp jobs.  Her positive attitude was a relief for her as she could strive without having too much to worry but that was the mindset she wished she could have and closed her phone to finish up her stack of folders.

After going through the set, she looked up and noticed it was still long way until the day was over and asked Yaguchi for more instruction.  The sorted pile of documents were next and she placed it in the basket as she climbed up to retrieve them to file but the rope was too weak to hold the pile that huge and Goto relieved the stress by taking off half and Ai pulled it up with ease.

The filing was the easiest of the jobs and she had fun finding places for her documents without any problems.  Then, after the first pile had gone down, the clock showed there was fifteen minutes left to the day and she hurried down to follow shut down instructions for the day as Kaorin supervised Ai’s computer until all four were down.  They waited for the clock to tick down and left with everyone slowing down in their work process.

“They are salary people so they can stay as long as they like but it is better to go home.”  Yaguchi informed her as they all entered the elevator to go downstairs.

Kaorin looked at her phone for all the missed messages from people and called her husband about an urgent matter.  Goto and Yaguchi were gossiping in the corner leaving Ai alone until it arrived at the lobby where they left quickly as she exited after them and the two receptionists greeted her.

The woman decided to exchange numbers with both of them as she could go out with them one day after work or the weekend but she wanted to go home.

“Nee-chan, I got a job.”  Aika yelled as Ai exited from the building and noticed it was around the area.  Ai smiled despite her exhaustion and went to the station to go back home.

Her words were very few as she leaned onto the pole and closed her eyes for a bit as Aika watched her bob her head back and forth during the trip back.  The younger woman woke her up as their stop was coming up and Ai headed toward the exit with her sister following her.

The short trip from the station was filled with the scenes of the sunset and Ai let out a sigh after her first full day of work.  With the great news of Aika’s employment, Ai arrived home without saying anymore and fell asleep on the couch as she could close the book for the first day.

Thank you for the thnx everyone and I shall say that it won't have any particular pairing but the whole story is about Ai taking on her new job with characters scattered around to make it entertaining

Chapter 2

The sun peeked in from her window as she felt her pillow.  She turned to find her room surrounding her and she was in her pajamas.  She ran through her hair feeling the silkiness and confirmed that she had taken a shower and she walked out seeing Aika coming out of the bathroom.

“Ohayou!”  She greeted her as she laid out her shirt and jeans for her first day of work.  Ai suddenly remembered that her clothes weren’t set out and ran back to swiftly threw it onto the bed.

She ran into the bathroom to take a quick shower and suddenly the replay of the previous day entered into her mind and the struggle to adapt made her fear the next step but the voice always made her remember that you need to take the baby steps before you can stride.

The shower felt harder than usual as it hit the skin making the pain feel torturous than the previous day.  Ai closed her eyes for a bit and woke up to hear Aika leaving the house.  Her mother didn’t stop the enthusiasm of her step-sister and now she had to get away before she was late for work and turned off the faucet.

After a thorough wipe down, she dragged into her room and neatly put on her navy blue skirt and white blouse for her second day.  She grabbed her purse and paced downstairs to find lunch in a bag for her.  Ai glanced at her and smiled for the meal and waved her goodbye as she headed off to work.

The walk seemed longer than usual especially without her talkative sister to her side and she had forgotten to ask her about the job but she felt confident that she would find something legit or face the  consequences at home.  After looking down at her phone, she ran to the station and managed herself into the last car packed like sardines.

Her trip was weighed by her sister’s job which was unusual of her to not ask but giving her a phone call wouldn’t be of help to her and spent the time looking outside until she felt a hand on her leg.

Oh no pervert >_<

What to do….. Okay let me look down… no luck…I guess I’ll turn 1… 2… 3… okay.

“Hey Ai-chan.”  Ai held her fist towards Risa’s face as the bean turned from a smile to a pout.

“Oh, haha.  I never expected you on this train.”  Ai nervously laughed as she constantly looked at the phone.

“I’m late… the first train came and I was stuck on this train.  It is my first time; I hope they are lenient…”  Ai placed the back of her hand on Risa’s hip.

Risa shifted around quickly and pushed away the woman’s hand with the force of a thousand kami to the delight of the older woman.  She looked down at her phone and her heart sank as she called Eri to say she was late and the doors opened to their stop.

The bean ran as fast as she could in her heels as Ai paced to her working place.  Luckily, the fifteen minutes from the station gave her enough time to gather her thoughts and looked forward to working again with her colleagues.

She arrived at the receptionist table with Eri waving at her furiously with her right hand.  Ai looked over at the empty seat and the turtle pointed toward the bathroom.  Ai walked into the open elevator and waited for her floor as it zoomed up to the floor she had to get off.

She stepped out and followed the direction she had head in on the first day and arrived with no conflict at all.  The three faces grinned at her as she greeted them and headed for her desk filled with folders.

“Takahashi, you want breakfast?”  Iida asked as the younger woman shot her head up and looked at the time noticing there was a little time before punching in.

They traveled up a floor to the cafeteria where the small group of employees were drinking their tea and eating small bits of homemade mochi.  Yaguchi took the lead in looking for pastries but Ai sat in the room as they got their stuff before coming back down to punch back in.

Yaguchi laid her food on the empty desk to the side of Iida and all punched in to start their day.  The pastries were cut up for each of them and Ai took a strawberry-filled pastry and slowly nibbled at it as she opened the first folder.

She scanned over the information and looked on the screen to find an error on the sheet but looking at the update, she noticed it wasn’t printed out and looked over at Maki to ask for a print out.  She looked over the changes and confirmed it was correct on both ends and closed the folder.

She looked up to find a brown-haired, round-faced woman standing next to her as she gave off a folder.

“Gomen, we need this right away.”  Yaguchi grabbed the folder and stood by Ai’s left side as the woman stood on the other side.

“Okay, just review the information of the account and give back the folder to her.”  Yaguchi pushed the woman closer to Ai as she introduced herself.

“Gomen, I’m Konno Asami.  I am part of the compliance department and as you know that being part of Files Guardianship, you will meet everyone on this floor at least once because when we need to update or review our files, we go to you guys.”  She smiled at Yaguchi as she scanned through the folder and instructed Ai about imputing new items into the system.

“Thank you for helping me.  It will get easier once you figure out how to do it on your own.  Maybe Goto-san will be of better assistance.”  Konno laughed as Yaguchi gave her the stare of death.

“If I was her, I wouldn’t joke around too much.  She doesn’t see us work most of the time.  She muttered under her breath which prompted Ai to look away for a while before the lunch period.

As she managed to get through her stack, she looked up at the clock, and left the area for lunch.  She swiftly walked into the open elevator and got off at the cafeteria where it was slowly filling up with people socializing with their lunch.  She looked at the fresh bentos and noticed the selection that was laid out.  A woman bumped her from her left to drop off the hot food on the counter.

“Sorry for bumping you.”  Ai wrenched her neck to notice Aika quickly putting them from her box.

“Aika-chan, this is where you work?”  She moved her head and walked away without any response.

After the initial attempt, she wanted to just get her lunch but she wanted to know and ran up to find her step-sister with a pout on her face.  Ai picked up two bentos for them and asked if she could take a break to her supervisor and hesitantly allowed under the one condition of paying for any time she would miss beyond the time limit which she agreed to.

“Okay, it can’t be bad for you working here.”  Ai started the conversation but she kept her attention toward the exit.

“It is okay… just overwhelmed.”  She muttered under her voice but she could see that stress was her coat.

“You are bad at holding in stuff.”  Ai snickered.

Aika about-faced and took the bento from Ai but she stopped her from going back and asked about work.  Aika gritted her teeth and finally lowered her guard to her older sister.

“It has been hard but I’m trying my best.”  She cracked a smile but it couldn’t hold for five seconds.

“That’s good, it is great that you have a job but if you feel stressed out, take a period to breathe, and let it all go.”  Aika nodded as she rushed back to the cafeteria with her lunch.

Ai paced back to the elevator but with all the cars busy, she took the stairs down a floor and noticed the group being packed to go to the cafeteria.  She slipped by them and sat back in her seat as she pondered over her slowly growing stack.

Her lunch was saba with pickled vegetables over white rice, she sniffed her food before breaking her chopsticks to start on her meal.  Goto noticed the bento and kept her eye on the fish as she nervously worked through the smell which irritated Iida and let the younger one go get her food with the condition of grabbing for the rest of them.

She ran upstairs leaving the older workers looking over at her anxiously grinning.  Iida turned her head to look outside and walked over to Ai as she placed a piece of fish into her mouth.

“You seem rather excited for this job…”  Ai moved her head slowly up and down.

“Well I guess I can’t blame you for being positive but you really need to pick up the pace on doing the folders.”  Ai nodded in understanding the issue.

“Okay.  I will be quicker in finishing the folders.”  Ai swallowed the food and placed her chopsticks on the cover to look over at the time.

She had about fifteen minutes left to her break and walked over to the break room to get something to drink.  She reached into her bag, remembering that she had left her wallet in the cafeteria.  Ai ran to the elevator where Aika was confused in the location of her big sister and swung her head to find her in the front.

“Arigatou.”  She bowed to her as she flashed a 1000 yen bill.

“This is my tip and I better go back up before they notice me gone.”  She ran into the emergency stairs as Goto came with a bag towards her.

“So nice you have service, I wonder if I could get that here.”  She gave a quizzical look to her as Ai paced to the break room to get a juice can from the vending machine.

She returned to her seat in time to start her work and noticed Konno by her seat again with Yaguchi disappointed from her appearance.  Konno dropped off another folder but a piece of paper fell out to Ai’s attention and noticed a phone number written on it.

“Oh, sorry I forgot I had this as a bookmark, this is from the cute man who I met on the train today.”  Yaguchi came from behind and pushed her away from Ai.

“Sorry no idle talk, we are super busy.”  Konno broke away from Yaguchi’s control and gave her card to Ai so she can confirm the updates.

After Konno departure, she looked through the folder from her and the list seemed lengthy for her as she looked at every point written out for her.  She grasped the pencil in her hand and followed the text to every character presented in front of her.  She was seamlessly scanning through the file until something caught her eye and dialed up Konno’s number but her voice message came up.  Ai looked over at Yaguchi for help but she was on the phone and with everyone else occupied, she worked from the beginning to check if they were put in correctly and landed at the same problem.

“Yaguchi, help Takahashi, she seems confused.”  Iida instructed Yaguchi as she pouted over to find that the update was put in the wrong place and called Konno to her displeasure.

She wanted to work on something else while waiting and luckily another stack of documents were on the table to be sorted and moved onto the stack for half an hour until she called back wondering what the problem was.

Ai pointed a mistake on an input to her as she cringed at the mistake and quickly changed it for her.  Ai looked over the updates and confirmed it matched the form and put it to the side for Konno to pick up.

She looked over at her stack of folders which was growing by the second and started to analyze the new updates with the accounts.  Many were switches between designations of their money, which became an easy task for her as it became repetitive for every account.

When it came down to the final few, she glanced at the clock to notice it was an hour until work was over.  She let out a yawn and looked at her half-eaten bento to her hunger growling for food and finished it within a few minutes.  Iida slid over a list for tomorrow and placed it to the side of her as she opened the last set for today.

The pile was gone with forty-five minutes left to go and she walked up to the second level to find the folders for tomorrow and placed it to the side as she brought the basket up from the bottom and gently placed it down on the floor so she could get it ready and the last second ticked off to her freedom.

Ai punched out and rushed over to the elevator to get the first car coming down.  She stared at the counter noticing it was going down slower than usual and closed her eyes for a bit wishing it would go down faster and opened to find the group rushing out at thelobby.

“Oi!  Ai-chan, you want to go drinking?  Eri is treating today.”  The bean had a big smile as Eri put her head down.

“She seems to not be excited.”  Ai glanced at Eri and she nodded her head.

“Well she needs a few drinks before she is the turtle I love.”  Risa explained as Eri grabbed her bag to head to the izakaya across the building.

Eri placed out 5,000 yen on the table which gave them three drinks each with snacks.  The first bottle came out cold with three glasses and each poured for each other.  The three took their first sips at the same time and let out a pleasure sigh to the alcohol in their exhausted bodies.

They talked for a while before the drinks ran out.  Risa was Eri’s friend from a while back and enjoyed the company but knew that she was shy around men.  Kamei was approached many times with her weird alien like self would appear to chase them away.

The bean was a controlling person who would overcome a conversation with her chatter.  She was unaware of the practice but the many men disregard her as an able partner which stressed her a lot than Kamei.

Ai was rarely approached as she never got accustomed to courtship as she kept a book by her side, reading at every waking moment to avoid any eye contact.  However, she was a closet dancer as the drinks soon forced her to dance to the music to the entertainment of the two until they realized the time and they all left to their separate ways home.

She jumped onto the closest train home and rode until her stop.  She arrived woozy from the fun with her new friends and changed into her pajamas to end her second day at her new job still heavy about her work.

Chapter 3

The smell of the light rain woke her up for the third day.  The scent was delicate for her to retreat back for a few minutes but her thoughts heavy with work forced her to take a shower.

Aika left the same time as yesterday with her uniform on without any question for her mother.  Ai picked out her clothes quickly, praying it would match up without considering nay of the consequences.  She grabbed her purse and rushed downstairs to get a decent meal in the morning for once.

She took a seat and quietly ate breakfast with the sounds of her mother putting away dishes in the cupboard and her pot of hot water ready for tea.  Ai glanced over to observe her mother and that warmth she gave made her wonder about creating a family of her own.  With that thought ending, she got up and left for the station before her usual departure from home.

Ai was pushed inside with a familiar face pressing their bodies together like sardines for another day.  The bean’s smile caught her attention as she felt arms wrapped around her.

“This is the best way to ride the train.”  She murmured with her face dug into her back.

“How can I feel the same way?”  She joked as Risa fisted her side.

“Itai!!!!!!”  Ai yelled out capturing the attention of the other passengers.

Risa snugged up to avoid the eyes burning at her partner’s scream but apologize for the attention and went back to coiling her arms around Ai’s waist.

A few minutes later, as she checked out her friend, Ai saw a small bit of drool on the corner and grabbed her handkerchief to wipe it carefully.  Risa opened her eyes to a cunningly cute smile presented by Ai not noticing the hanky in her far pocket.

“I had a dream about Eri and her adventure with whipped cream.  I should mention that she once got frustrated with the aerosol can that she sprayed her mother.”  Ai giggled as Risa wondered why she was more entertained than usual.

Risa glanced around but the lack of space was not helping her and waited for their stop to get off with Ai stuffing her bag without the bean noticing the evidence.  The bean slowly lulled back to sleep but her weight started to pull down Ai’s skirt and with a sudden stop, Risa took down Ai and the rest fell like dominoes.

“Why am I on the ground?”  She looked up at Ai as her hands were on her thigh and quickly removed them.

“Let’s get off before we get more attention.”  Ai insisted as they picked up their stuff and started to walk into the train station and onto the street.

Ai paced toward the business district as Risa leisurely look around with time to burn before work.  The bean jogged at a steady calling for her and caught up without any problems.

“Chotto Matte!  You can slow down for me.”  Risa reached out for her shirt and halted the progress of the older woman.

“Aren’t you in a hurry?”  She asked with a grim look.

“No… Eri has the table prep for today.  Are you irritated that I am with you?”  Risa curiously stuck her neck out.

Ai looked up after the incident in the train and wanted to say the truth but she hoped for her to be less obnoxious.  She stopped and looked back to flash a smile towards her.

“I guess it’s weird to have a person who seems attached to me but if you don’t mind to not try hard to be on my good side.”  Risa nodded.

“Gomen… I didn’t want to be bothersome but rarely anyone talks to us outside of work.  Many just pass by us without any words of good work and Eri thought it was something we did.  However, it wasn’t that, but they look down at receptionist.”  Ai held up her hand to stop the bean.

“You know that you service their customers with a greeting and a smile.  I think that is enough to give you thanks but I don’t mind being your friend…”  Ai extended out her hand and Risa pulled her towards her and gave her a hug.

“Eri should be happy that at least we have one person to enjoy our company.”  She looked down at the bean with lasers shooting at her.

“I like Eri more than you.”  Ai grinned at her as she started running towards the building with Risa tailing her from behind as she slipped into the open elevator and into her workplace.

She walked into her department and the smell of sweets filled their area as Goto-san laid out a box of freshly-made pastries.  Ai scooted by with her eyes fixed on the food and managed to take a seat before an offer came to her to enjoy the food.

She hesitantly took a quarter-piece and placed it on top of the napkin as she punched in for work and opened her first folder to find a list of text.

Ai checked off her updates with the utmost precision and thought she was done until a brisk reminder about timing by Iida caused her to update without the previous changes and she had to redo everything which wasted half an hour on the same account.

After the disaster, she closed the folder and stepped out to the window right of the room.  She let out a sigh as she viewed the downtown area and felt a hand on her shoulder.

“Gomen, I forgot about telling you that it was time-sensitive, I hope you aren’t too overwhelmed.”  Iida’s voice pierced through her ears and nodded slowly.

“I should have asked about it before going forward on updating.”  She spun around and seeing Iida with a can of juice in her hand.

“Take baby steps.  The best thing is to learn little at a time, we don’t expect you to get everything in one try.”  Ai nodded her head as she went back to the room but was stopped by Iida.

“Yaguchi has ordered food for the party in our area.  Don’t tell anyone that we are taking in catering, unless you have someplace else to go.”  Ai shook her head and went to the elevators to check on her step-sister.

As she was ready to go in, she remembered about the folder, and headed back without considering about the door.  Aika had her face in her hands after a disastrous morning.  The door opened and quickly closed as she headed down the elevator.  Ai returned after cancelling the program and zoomed up to the cafeteria to the sound of yelling from a man.

She saw them lined up with watery eyes as they turned to Ai as he headed up to her.

“Is there something I can do for you?”  His tone made Ai concerned as she scanned the group and noticed her sister was missing.  She looked around the guy and one pointed toward the door as it seemed she was saying she was fired.

“I was wondering… what are the specials for lunch?”  The guy walked to the back as the women started to mention that she left and Ai quickly confirmed her suspicions as the guy walked out with a menu.

Ai looked over the menu and gave it back as she walked out of the cafeteria to the dining room with the few enjoying their last part of the breakfast.  She flipped her phone and called Aika but it was leading straight to her voice message leaving no other choice than to go back and ponder over Aika for the next few hours before her mother returned home from shopping.

She returned back as soon as possible to see a flashing message on her screen about a call from an unknown number.  She placed the receiver onto her ear and quickly noticed it was a call from Aika but through the whimpering, she couldn’t make out the message and hanged up to gather her thoughts before working on a new folder.

Before she had met her sister, she was the only child with her father’s guardianship after her mother passed away from cancer at a young and as he tested dating soon after.   She could pick out the women that she would be attracted to but it was the surprise of finding she had a baby sister a year after her mother’s death that shocked her.

Ai rejected the little sister that she began live with and more she would become distant with her father to the point that she would move out after high school but that day never came.  Her father died an hour before the graduation ceremony with a stroke that took him out quickly.  She stood outside with her certificate with no one to congratulate her and walked away without notice.

She arrived home to her step-mother crying and the news of her father’s passing.  Ai looked at her mother and held out her fist in anger but relinquished her feelings into a hug.  She knew it wasn’t her fault that he died but the unlimited amount of regrets hanged with her during her first year in college.

It wasn’t until the New Year’s break of the following year that she took a trip alone and talk to him at his grave.  She shed a lot of tears and spilled all the regrets towards him for being a horrible daughter.  After letting go her emotions, she was greeted by a priest who acknowledged the mistake she did but knew that forgiving would be the best thing for both as she could release the disappointment in her.

Ai was faced with the decision to continue on with school or come back to help out with Aika.  Her mother was insistent that she continue as she looked after her step-sister.  However, she wanted a month to gain back the sister she almost lost through anger against her father.  She walked into the room and noticed her talking on the phone.

Before she could ask about the person on the phone, the doorbell rang, and she answered the door to find a female at the door with brownish hair and an attitude unlike anyone she had met.  Ai turned toward her step-mother and waved at the unsuspecting female as she lowered her sunglasses.  Her eyes were fixed on Ai as she walked into the house without a welcome greeting and sat on the couch with a pitcher of water on the table.

Ai walked back towards her room and the woman twisted her neck gazing at Ai as she walked upstairs to find Aika rushing back down to meet with her.  She had felt awkward about the situation but she had to let the situation play out and finally when she was ready to go back, the woman had come over at the house when she was home alone, and pounced on Ai.

I never imagined your sister to be so easy to follow my orders.  Maybe you can do the same because I think your sister will love the fact I am in love with you.

Her words drove Ai to flip her onto the ground and slap her across the face as hard as she could with her right hand.  She face turned pinkish right at the area of contact and got her one more time causing the skin to turn darker.  Ai forced her out of the house and locked the door behind her.

Ai ran to the bathroom and washed her face quickly with thoughts running through her mind about the woman and the fear about Aika’s safety.  She dialed Aika’s number and it went directly to the voice mail as she called her mother and luckily she answered to Ai’s panicked explanation.  Her mother rushed home and knocked furiously to let her in without anybody following her in.

Ai didn’t know what brought her to attack Aika’s friend but she knew Aika would be in trouble and she waited inside hearing if she would call back.  Her mother made dinner meanwhile with Ai’s crossing her fingers for her safe arrival and at 3:30 she arrived with her backpack and Ai sat her down to talk about her friend.

Aika was hesitant at first to talk about the mysterious friend but after the incident, Aika had explained that she was part of a small group of delinquents who were aiming for domination.  They were doing petty stuff around the area so she assumed it would be worth the fun but it soon became a master/slave relationship with the hanging around the park so she could get action but leaving Aika alone sometimes to just have her lusty experiences.

Ai’s chest restricted about the stories and looked over at her envelope that she was going to return with about her schooling.  Ai grasped it in her hands and placed them on either side until Aika grabbed her wrists.

Don’t worry about me, I know you have cared for me since I was little.  You may never show it externally but I knew you cared because my mother has been informing me you talk because of your father.  Don’t let me get in the way of your dreams.

Ai released the envelope and let it fall to the ground as she dialed a number and walked away to another room to continue the conversation.

Since that day, she knew that she could trust her to make good decisions or at least make them after thinking them through a few times.  Ai managed to return back to find her progressing through school and the delayed report against her.  She managed to let it blow over as a self-defense mechanism against the woman and soon after she got sent to jail for evasion.

With the thought out of her mind, she was free from the concerns of the past that had haunted her and opened the next folder to do the updates carefully to get everyone up before the time limit.  Her rhythm of inputting gave her confidence into managing to finish ¾ of the stack when lunch came around and food was brought in from outside for the four to enjoy.

Ai saw a box rolled into area and immediately closed the curtains off to the rest of the floor.  Yaguchi lifted out a sushi platter and below that was fresh yakitori sticks with chicken and pork alternating in a row.  Iida positioned the paper plates next to the food as the final container was pulled packed with ice and juices.

Iida went to the front of the room with a hint of happiness and held a stack of papers in front of her.

“Well this is the welcoming party for our new co-worker, Takahashi Ai.  She will take over the inputting of work items and will work with other departments in streamlining their work.”  They yelled out a cheer before lining up for their food.

After going through the line, she began to tell about her life, they were impressed about her accomplishments, and the fact that she was still single.  With the three thinking of theories, Ai sunk into her seat about her lack of a partner and suddenly she had three pairs of eyes staring at her.

“Don’t worry about that.”  Yaguchi nudged her as Ai took another piece of sushi to her mouth.

“You are still young to think about that.  Like Iida and I, we are planning to have kids soon enough, as for Goto-san… I think it is safe that she is in the same boat but her boyfriend spoils her.”  Maki moved in between them.

“I don’t get spoiled, he just gives me lavish things during anniversaries and my birthday.  I feel bad that he accepts petty gifts from me…”  Ai let out a snort.

“Well I guess you never intend him to be your slave and when you do return the favor, you feel bad that you can’t give the same.  I think it is fine that you at least love him for what he does…”  Yaguchi squeezed her body between the two.

“He works as a manager in a huge company.”  Maki pushed her away as the elders laughed at her.

“I see.  You have a catch for yourself.”  Ai nervously laughed as Goto smiled at her.

The rest of the lunch period went by with a lot of talking and getting to know Ai as she got to learn about them.  It was a productive meeting between of all of them as they slowly went back into their work.  Konno entered after the party was over and handed over a stack of folders for the next day and Ai placed it below the previous stack.  She looked over at the table where the leftovers were and helped her to a plate.

Ai looked at her folders and pushed through until half the stack was eliminated.  She looked up at the clock noticing it was quarter to four and decided to take a mini break to refresh her eyes from the computer.  She walked over to the break room to get a juice and saw a woman scanning through the newspaper.

“Hello, my name is Takahashi Ai.”  She introduced herself as the woman glanced up at Ai.

“Fujimoto Miki here.  I guess you must be new.”  She flipped to the next page.

“Yes, I was just wondering what you do…”  She flashed a smile.

“Secretary to the head analyst.  He left for the day so I need to field the calls.”  Ai tilted her head as she stood up and studied the noticeable bump.

“I see.  I hope I see you around and I think I hear someone calling for you.”  She quickly left as she struggled to get onto her feet.

The last hour was relaxed with the routine of getting folders for the next day and as soon as she wrapped up the retrieval and punched out to follow the crowd to the elevator.  As they forced their bodies into the box, Ai began to feel someone touching her behind in a therapeutic way and the voice caused her to let out a yelp.

They all turned to Ai as she looked back to find the pregnant woman massaging her and let out a soft hum as she toyed with her until she could escape from her control.  She turned to find the receptionists gone for the day and flipped her phone to find a voice message pending for her.

Ai opened up the voice mailbox and heard Aika’s voice through the receiver, she explained that the boss was scolding her for the mistakes and when she wanted to explain, Aika was forced to go back without an explanation, and she began to discuss the situation with a fellow worker, she was instantly forced into bathroom duty.  Instead of going to get the items, she left without notice, and contacted the company that she had quit.

Then, right after the message, her phone rang, and noticed Aika was on the line.

“I got your message.  I am disappointed in you for just quitting.”

“I know what I did.  I don’t need the lecture from you.”  Ai took a deep breath.

“I guess mom gave you the lecture.  Well I’ll be home soon…”  Aika hung up and Ai headed to the station to get home feeling the weight of her sister’s decision.  She knew that drilling Aika would get her nowhere and letting her mother take care of the situation would be the best plan but in her mind she wanted to say she understood and come out with a drawn out explanation.

However, her body was exhausted from work and walked into the house without saying a peep.  The three sat down eating their dinner without any conversation and Ai left the table first to bathe before sleeping as her sister laid down on the couch with her eyes fixed on the television.
