Title: The Happiest Place On Earth [Disney and Imagineering]

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Walt_Disney_Company) | Disney Parks Blog (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/) | The Disney Thread (the films)@JPH!P (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=20510.0)

Sure, we all love Disney for their animations and feature films... but Disney is so much more!

The first Disney park was opened in Anaheim, California in 1955.

Quote
"To all who come to this happy place: -Welcome- Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past ... and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America ... with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world."
—Walter E. Disney, July 17, 1955 4:43pm

Disney's source of joy and inspiration has since then indeed been spread to all the world. There are currently five Disney resorts spread across the world;

- Magic Kingdom (Disneyland) in Anaheim, California (USA)
- Walt Disney World Resort (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom) in Orlando, Florida (USA)
- Tokyo Disney Resort (Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea) in Urayasu, Chiba (Japan)
- Disneyland Paris (Disneyland Park, Walt Disney Studios Park) in Marne-la-Vallée, Paris (France)
- Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (Hong Kong Disneyland) in Penny's Bay, Lantau Island (Hong Kong)

In addition to the parks there's also the Disney Vacation Club, where members buy real estate interest and stay in deluxe accommodations at over 500 Disney destinations.

There's also the Disney Cruise Line with a wide selection of destinations. They've got cruises in Europe, Alaska & Pacific Coast, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, the Mexican Riviera, the Panama Canal, and even a transatlantic cruise!

Imagineering!
Quote from: Wikipedia
The imagineers are the people who bring you the magic. Walt Disney Imagineering (also known as WDI or simply Imagineering) is the design and development arm of The Walt Disney Company, responsible for the creation and construction of Disney theme parks worldwide. The department was founded by Walt Disney in 1952 to oversee the production of Disneyland Park.
The term Imagineering comes from Walt Disney’s blending of the words imagination and engineering, representing the skill set embodied by the employees of WDI. These employees, known as Imagineers, are renowned for their ability to blend creativity, expertise, and technological advancements like Audio-Animatronics to create “distinctive experiential storytelling”.

The Imagineers often add their own personal signatures to the rides they create, and they place out so-called hidden Mickeys for fans to look for!

Quote from: Hidden Mickeys Guide
A hidden Mickey is a partial or complete impression of Mickey Mouse placed by the Imagineers and artists to blend into the designs of Disney attractions, hotels, restaurants, and other areas.

The most common Hidden Mickey form is the tri-circle Mickey frontal silhouette: three circles that form Mickey’s round head and adjoining round ears.

Other images include a side or oblique (usually three-quarter) profile of Mickey’s face and head, a side profile of his entire body, a full-body frontal silhouette, a detailed picture of his face or body, or a three-dimensional Mickey. Sometimes, just his gloves, handprints, shoes or ears appear. Even his name or initials in unusual places may qualify as Hidden Mickeys. And don’t forget other characters such as Hidden Minnies, Donald Ducks, Goofys, etc.

... I really hope I'm not the only Disney dork here  :nervous.

Let's discuss Imagineering and other random things relating to Disney that isn't necessarily to do with their films (let's try and keep those discussions for the Disney films (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=20510.0) thread)!

Let's enjoy Imagineering from today!  (... I've been studying and reading too much Japanese lately. Halp).

So yeah, I'm a huge Disney dork.

I've been to Disney World, Disneyland (Paris), Tokyo Disneyland, and Tokyo DisneySea. I hope to some day be able to go to Disneyland (California) and Hong Kong Disneyland too~! Would of course be fun to visit all the other related parks as well (Epcot, etc.)... but I'm not made of money, unfortunately T_T;

My absolute dream vacation would be to take the transatlantic Disney Cruise to the US, go to Disney World, then rent a car, drive all across the US and end my vacation at Disneyland \0/

My Tokyo Disney adventure was kind of crazy xD I went there twice... in one week :lol: so, so worth it, though :heart: It was during Christmas so they had Christmas music blasting everywhere constantly :lol: and Haunted Mansion still had its Halloween decorations up and was re-done as a Nightmare Before Christmas ride for the occasion (not as fun as the original Haunted Mansion, but still awesome). There was also special Christmas parades and Christmas shows :heart:

And then I visited DisneySea as well. An extremely beautiful park, with a lot of fun rides. And a complete Agrabah! :inlove: I was lucky enough to have Princess Jasmine dance around on the Agrabah carousel while I was riding it ;_;!!!

Aaaah Disney memories.

Haha.

I keep up with the Disney Parks blog and fangirl over rides I probably won't be able to ride for years (if at all) xD

I've got over 10 hours of Disney music stored away in various places, including a lot of the music used in the various theme parks :heart:

My favourite rides are Splash Mountain and It's a Small World. Yeah, I'm all about the classic rides. Oh and bie (my boyfriend) has managed to convince me that Haunted Mansion is pretty damn awesome too. It's by far his favourite ride, we rode it like five times when we went to Disneyland Paris :nervous

OMGASS I love Disney rides. Disneyland is my favorite place in the world, even tho i only been there three times, twice as a kid and last in 2006 with my HiPster buddies. Lol like I was in Los Angeles and Orlando the past two years but never got a chance to go, too busy pimping!!

Loved to go on California Adventure!

The California park seems so different from all the other ones! In that it's got more "normal" rides in addition to all the Disney rides. The California park is the one I know the least about, so I'd love to learn more about it ^_^

That coaster has a loop, but still looks like so much fun! I'd love to go on that one \0/

I videotaped some rides at Tokyo Disneyland. Unfortunately it was a brand new camera, so I hadn't used it much yet..... so I ended up getting a lot of ceiling footage XDDD I'll try to make better videos next time I go!

Anyway this is what It's A Small World sounds like during Christmas XD
It's A Small World (Tokyo) (http://vimeo.com/458853)
(again.. really, really sorry about mostly filming the ceiling T___T It gets a lot better about 3 minutes in xD)

And here's Splash Mountain! (filmed by bie)

ooh! I went to Disneyland! It was fun!
Although the first ride I went on was that log ride and my jeans were kinda wet and cold for the rest of the day lol. But then one of the crazy locals arrived and showed us all the cool rides : D
My favourite was the Indiana Jones ride! And Space Mountain was fun too and the Matterhorn and the Rickety Train ride (dunno what it's called).

I took some pics :P

lol probably can't see but I was wet from the log ride here, it was freezing XD

Me and my bro thought this was hilarious ahhahaha, they must be on somekind of rail or something under the water I guess but still XD it looks like it's gonna sink and the staff chick at the front was paddling so hard the whole way it looked like
she was paddling for everyone.

Oh! I have a Splash Mountain vid I just found it haha I forgot I took that, I'll upload it.

:lol: No, that canoe ride is exactly what it seems like. People canoeing about. There's a set course, but there's no rails or anything. I went on this ride in Tokyo Disneyland, and I've never laughed so much in my life, oh my god xD I thought I was going to fall out, because I kept laughing. The first time I visited the Tokyo Disney park I went there with my mum, my boyfriend, and some friends of mine. We all got into one canoe, so it was like GAIJIN INVASION :lol: This poor cast member (people working in the Disney parks are called cast members ^_^ ) tried telling us what to do, and then went all, "omg awesome" when we started talking to him in Japanese. He started by going "Yeah you're here to enjoy yourself and ride rides, huh? Well on this one YOU DO ALL THE WORK!". He shouted out instructions, but we all sucked at paddling the thing. It was hard! My mum just kind of gave up, and the guy kept shouting back to her "HEY, HEY, THIS IS NO TIME FOR TAKING A BREAK~~~~~~" while struggling like hell to paddle all of us around (he was laughing too, don't worry, it was all good fun). xD It was a bit awkward, and we all pretty much went "omg we're so sorry~" when we got off xD;;; Though we kind of also wanted to do it again. Heeee.

... the cast members working that ride must build up such muscles @___@ I can't even begin to imagine having to paddle that ride all day long. My arms got sore from my one poor little attempt xD

Woah The Matterhorn :O That's one of the rides that's specific to the California park, isn't it? I think so~ Haven't seen it in any of the parks I've been to ^^;

Space Mountain is fun, my favourite version is the one in Disney World (Florida). The one in Paris scared the crap out of me, and it had lots of loops and such @____@ aaaah.

Indiana Jones ride! Lucky~ I haven't been able to get on that one yet. It was closed for renovation when I went to DisneySea ;_; and it broke down during my visit to the Paris park, so yeeeah. Tough luck :/

Rickety train ride = Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ;D Such an icon ride. Absolutely awesome little coaster :heart:

Let's look at the newest Disneyland attraction! It premiered a couple of weeks ago, and man I really hope to be able to see this show in person some day. It looks absolutely spectacular. Pictures and info collected from the Disney Parks blog (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/).

World of Color - Disneyland, California

(http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/7852/wcp510020small.jpg)

(http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/8506/wocdealsmall.jpg)

(http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/3161/wcc510018small.jpg)

This attraction is a combination of animation, light, and... most of all, nearly 1200 fountains!

Here's a presentation of the different kinds of fountains that make this attraction tick;

(http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/5126/dis1butterfly423123smal.jpg)(http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/2084/dis2chaser653463small.jpg)(http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/1724/dis3dancer779345small.jpg)(http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/8489/dis4dualwater336575smal.jpg)(http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/8716/dis5flowerfountains7264.jpg)(http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/4862/dis6geyserfountains6692.jpg)(http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/8246/dis7gridfountain449864s.jpg)(http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/6479/dis8whipfountains556798.jpg)
Butterfly Fountains
This delicate quartet creates a serene effect, fluttering just above the water’s surface. With butterfly-like wings, they deliver smooth, yet stunning patterns – evoking pathos and drama with ballet–like grace.

Chaser Fountains
More than 400 Chaser Fountains create lightning-fast effects that “chase” each other in rapid-fire succession. Like the action stars they are, these fountains allow booming beads of water to be projected up to 80 feet high.

Dancer Fountains
These six co-stars create swirling dual nozzles that intertwine streams of water. Like a dancing couple from a classic Hollywood musical, their ease and grace create unforgettable moments of choreographed dancing water magic.

Dual Water Whip Fountains
Their repertory includes not only vertical patterns but also wider, fan-like designs. In theatre parlance, these 65 fountains can “change costumes” and become the ultimate 19,000 sq ft. water screen cyclorama on Paradise Bay.

Flower Spout Fountains
Here are a dozen actors with dramatic range. These fountains can shoot high-velocity streams of big, frothy water and then easily transition the shape of those streams into a “blooming” 60-foot-wide flower petal.

Geyser Fountains
With Diva-like attitude they can launch 40 gallons of water at once, announcing their presence with a distinct authority. These 10 fountains live up to their name (and reputation) by being the most powerful; each Geyser can shoot huge bursts of water more than 200 feet into the sky.

Grid Fountains
These performers comprise a network of grids that create a vast “ensemble cast.” Positioned eight-feet apart, these vertical fountains are capable of firing water up to 40 feet in the air. Their specialty is creating massive, three-dimensional designs, like a whale moving through the Paradise Bay.

Single Water Whip Fountains
Our 75 star ballerinas are the most elegant and graceful featured in World of Color and perform a mesmerizing ballet. With independently moving heads that can sway in any direction and project water more than 100 feet in a vertical pattern.

The attraction comes with it's own line of souvenirs and snacks, including awesome cherry, blueberry, and plum flavoured popcorn!

CRAZY TWISS! The colored light angles you get just by twisting the water :D

me too Dave, Indiana Jones and Splash Mountain are some of my fave rides too. Here we are trying to do Rika's Charmy Gucha! pose:
(http://www.imgur.com/files/090630/scan0001-20060701173133.jpg)

and when we got off Indiana Jones and the gift shop was like right in front of us, Kuno_Thunder asked the guy, "Do you sell any pimp canes?" :pimp:

me, KT, boykun (and tenkei being choked by a snake in the back xD)

JPHiPPPPPPPPP!! :jphip:

And love Space Mountain, it's just pitch black and you just go AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! and feel air.

Wonder what new rides they got now? Fen said it was Finding Nemo, they really "movie-ized" their classic rides to adapt to current movies, like the Pirates of Caribbean is now Johnny Depp and friends.

Love that Splash Mountain picture :lol: I should find both of mine (one from 2001 when I went to Disney World, and one from 2007 when I went to Tokyo Disneyland), scan them and post them~~~ Disneyland Paris doesn't have Splash Mountain! :O FOR SHAME! xD

The Indiana Jones gift shop has such random things xD We bought ponchos there 8]

Oh wow, the California Park is split into two parks? Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure Park o_o; I had no idea :lol: Seems like World of Color is in the Adventure Park~! Aw man, I guess that means I have to visit both parks if I ever get to go over there xD Auugh. DISNEY STEALING ALL MY MONEY ;____;!

Wonder what new rides they got now? Fen said it was Finding Nemo, they really "movie-ized" their classic rides to adapt to current movies, like the Pirates of Caribbean is now Johnny Depp and friends.

Yeeeah :/ I don't like the trend of "fixing up" old classic rides in order to incorporate stuff from new film versions or whatever. They had added in the Jack Sparrow animatronic at Tokyo Disneyland, and while funny and scarily life-like it felt completely unnecessary T_T; Apart from being able to see Jack Sparrow a couple of times during the ride (and I think Captain Barbossa as well?) the ride was still the same, so it's not that it made a lot of difference anyway *shrug* They hadn't added in any of the film stuff to the Pirates ride in Paris, though! :O Was a nice surprise when I went there~

As for Finding Nemo stuff, the California Disneyland has an attraction called Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage... and there's a Crush's Coaster in Disneyland Paris. Turtle Talk With Crush opened up in 2009 in Tokyo DisneySea (though both these rides probably exist in the US parks as well). Turtle Talk sounds really interesting in that it's an interactive show and an animated Crush (by the help of some cast members) interacts directly with the audience (as in answers questions, etc) :O I think I might want to check it out if we go to DisneySea this summer~~~!

Disneyland turns 55 this Saturday so there's lots of neat stuff going on. Including the creation of awesome paper sculptures! *o*

Made by Kevin Kidney and Jody Daily

Quote from: Kevin Kidney
This morning we put the finishing touches on the most "intense" paper sculpture I've done to date. Five feet long and 2 feet high, hand-cut, curled, folded, and embossed papers - and a handful of wooden dowels and such - assembled into a mini-mural of early Disneyland treats.

We made every attempt to pack in all our favorites from the Park's fledgling years, from the Moonliner Rocket to the Hall of Chemistry, Fort Wilderness to the Silver Banjo. Jungle Cruise, Indian Village, Conestoga Wagons, Skyway Chalet, Astrojets, Casey Jr, and those cool tripod-lamp thingys from 1955 Tomorrowland.  All on a hand-woven silk backing under UV-protective plexiglass.  You can view it on display at Disneyland starting July 17th...and maybe you'll own it!

I saw these neat collectibles earlier. Would love to own these!

The Haunted Mansion inspires new film by Guillermo del Toro (the guy who directed Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy ++++)!!!

Quote from: Disneyparks Blog
The original Disneyland park attraction, the Haunted Mansion, that debuted in August of 1969 has now inspired a new film for The Walt Disney Studios by well-known filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
Announced at Comic-Con today, del Toro surprised thousands of fans with the news. In speaking about the new project, del Toro said, “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains- for me- the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!”

And there's a piece of artwork to go with the announcement;
(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1279811197.jpg)

Omg omg omg I couldn't be more excited! *_*; The Haunted Mansion is one of my absolute favourite rides, filled with atmosphere and happy haunts. I really do believe that del Toro will be able to capture that atmosphere on film :D

I hit Disney World in my late teens(Bootcamp in Orlando FTW), then didn't see Disney Land till early 30's. Went with a friends family to chaperone, cause he's all kinds of sick. Had an awesome time at both. DL was when the tower of terror was opening. We actually were on it before the actuall opening date(testing it on the unsuspecting).

Disney is getting ready for Halloween. The party starts in 2 days~!

The Disney parks celebrates their villains during Halloween, and this year is no exception. Who will be crowned the baddest villain of them all? Help decide~! Go vote for your favourite villain now! The nominees are;

(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1284478429.png)

Cast your vote, and read more about Disney's Halloween Party here (http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/calendar/specialEvents/detail?name=HalloweenTime2010SpecialEventPage&CMP=VAN-FY11Q1Halloweentime_Halloween/#/villains/).

^_____^ I voted for Maleficent, and I admit that it's mostly because of the Kingdom Hearts games xDDD;;;

Interesting article about Disney queue design!

Quote
(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292066604.png)
Left: Pirates queue top down view. Middle: Pirates queue with walls removed. Right: typical traditional switchback queue
(Red arrows indicate direction of pedestrian travel)

Disney's main innovation and departure in 1955 was to replace the traditional "back wall" with, in fact, no wall and a beautifully designed manufactured landscape. Trompe l'oeil becomes terrain, the "scenic switchback". The earliest example of this may be the Jungle Cruise, but I think the most beautiful one is the Matterhorn Bobsleds, which is an exciting, fascinating wait in line by virtue of... yodeling music and manufactered rocks.

But for all that, honestly, we don't think of Disney's best queues as being plain switchbacks, even if they secretly are. If we cut the roof off the Florida Pirates of the Caribbean queue and look in, we'll see that the switchbacks are unpredictable because they wrap behind walls and around scenes, they're actually pretty much just like what still graces the front of Snow White's Scary Adventures (see below). Even the beautifully linear Space Mountain and Indiana Jones Adventure queues eventually reach switchback areas, just not immediately or obviously. These queues, the "secret switchbacks", are a later innovation on the part of Disney and are what is generally thought of as the "themed queue", atmospheric treks which set up some component of place or atmosphere, indicators of an advanced state of themed design. In the context of Disney-designed attractions, this mode was more or less invented for the Florida Pirates of the Caribbean, although Disney did not always use it for every attraction. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, for example, is more or less a simple "scenic switchback" queue, at least in the original design of the attraction (built in Florida in 1979).

WOW! it's almost like they built the snow onto the rides :lol:

The way they get people parked always impressed me, so fluid.

I've heard people say "I've been to ______ Disneyland, I don't need to go to this Disneyland" I say FUCK DAT! Check out the Hong Kong light show for XMAS:

OMG Mickey and Minnie talking Chinese... :lol: Aaaaah. That's so sweet, though :D I really don't know much about the Hong Kong park, so thanks a lot for sharing that!

I've heard people say "I've been to ______ Disneyland, I don't need to go to this Disneyland" I say FUCK DAT!

Yeah! I know Disneyland are described as a "non-place" because it's essentially the same wherever you're at (so as long as you're in the park, you're not supposed to be able to tell what country it's in, and if you go to a different park you should be able to navigate it without any trouble/know exactly what to expect, because the parks should be the same). But the parks differ from each other a lot and they all have their own character despite having almost identical layouts and attractions. I've been to three different ones (four if you count DisneySea), and they all felt different from each other. I didn't walk around confused thinking I was in Tokyo Disneyland when I was in Disneyland Paris, and yes I was familiar with the basic layout of how the park is split up, but I couldn't walk over to my favourite attraction without looking at a map. There are differences. And though some parades and stuff will be the same for several of the parks, more likely than not, the parks will have different parades.

Also the different cultures have a lot to say about how the parks are run.

Anyway, I thought I'd look up Tokyo Disneyland's Christmas shows and parades, here's what they have to offer this season;

Disneyland Christmas Fantasy~
(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292460096.jpg)

Christmas Parade: White Holiday Parade
(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292460079.jpg)

Twinkling Christmas Castle
(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292460089.jpg)

Also a bunch of activities and several Christmas themed stage shows, but the ones listed above are the main events.

I thought I'd look up Tokyo Disneyland's special Christmas themed goods.... wish I hadn't... I WANT THIS STUFF, NOOOO ;_____;!

(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840157.jpg)(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840162.jpg)(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840167.jpg)
(see rest of the special Christmas items here (http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/magic/christmas2010/tdl/goods/))

You can also make your own Christmas lockets!
(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840237.jpg)
(more info here (http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/magic/christmas2010/tdl/goods/index02.html))

And they have a whole collection of snow man and ginger bread themed goods too! ;___;!!
(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840348.jpg)(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840353.jpg)(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840359.jpg)(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840365.jpg)
(see the whole collection here (http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/magic/christmas2010/tdl/goods/index03.html))

And of course DisneySea has a completely different set of Christmas goods 8D; Aaaaugh~ Their main Christmas event is called "Christmas Wishes".
(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840673.jpg)(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840680.jpg)
(see the rest here (http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/magic/christmas2010/tds/goods/))

You can make your own message rings! *o*
(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840734.jpg)
(more info here (http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/magic/christmas2010/tds/goods/index02.html))

And there are special Christmas Duffy goods too~
(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840779.jpg)(http://hitorimoni.net/g/src/1292840783.jpg)
(complete collection here (http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/magic/christmas2010/tds/goods/index04.html))

I wonder if the Christmas goods are as nice as these in the other parks. The merchandise available at the Paris park really disappointed me when I was there, and I only brought back a white souvenir cap from Disney World in Florida, so I guess the merch there didn't impress me that much either... but the Tokyo parks *o* .... I've got so much merch from the Tokyo parks XD;;;;;

if thsi is the wrong place to put this then sorry ^^;
idk why it took me so long to find this place...but im happy i did now X3 i've been to disney world about 5 times throughout my life so far and i've been to all 4 parks atleast once(magic kingdom being more than once XD), and i've been to disney land in paris once. My most recent time wasthis year on the last day of march/the 1st day of may, why do i say that? mostly cus it was grad night ^^;

it was the most spectacular time i've ever had...having the park just be "empty" abd filled with teens was pretty fun and i was able to go on spacew mt. like 5 times from the time i was there XD i know thats never ever happening again, but one thing that really stuck to me was the fire works show that they held at midnight. it was 10 min. of just pure fireworks and i took a crapload of pics XD this being just one of the many.

(http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k296/kktomoyo/my%20pics/DSC04555.jpg)

i seriously wanna go to tokyo disney one day and i will make sure that it comes true!

(http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k296/kktomoyo/DSC04556.jpg)

the last one is like epic of all epics for me XD it was near to the end of the fireworks so like of couse in pure disney fashion end it with trillions at once XD and i didnt even notice until i uploaded these into my computere that some kid was recording infront of me XD still makes it epic^^; its like "captuing capturing the moment."XD

lol its ok we all get excited X3 i still do even when i see the disney store in the mallXD like eventhough im 19 i love to act like a kid^^; to the point that the ppl in my family are all "wtf u need to grow up"(yet im like 20trillion times mature than my cousins that they idolize >.>)

just cus u live close to disney doesnt mean your able to go^^; i've only gone really durring the summer where like its most full(minus grad night) but i really would love to go during christmas timeXD i dont care how cold it is im going one day XDDD one of my friends said that er should do that once we're a bit older, just road trip to disney and go furing winter break^^; XD

Tower of Terror? (It's called Hotel Hightower at DisneySea, but I know the backstory for their version is different from the American one <,<; ). Tower of Terror is amazing, even though it leaves me shaking like a leaf xD; It's definitely my favourite free fall ride ever :D

THOSE ARE AMAZING PICTURES *o* You can really feel the energy and epicness :D

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a Disney dork. Don't let people who tell you to stop get to you~ I'm 24 and I don't see myself getting out of Disney parks fandom any time soon :lol:

I find it really inspirational and sweet when the official Disney parks blog posts stories like the one about the family who just celebrated their 45th Christmas Eve in a row at Disneyland (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/12/guest-spotlight-celebrating-45-consecutive-christmas-eves-at-disneyland-resort/). Omg aaah, the California park looks so different from all the other parks @_@;;; I need to go there some time XD;;; And hey, how is Star Tours anyway? It's one of the few classic rides I've never been on <,<;; I'm not a huge fan of simulation rides, and I always figured it was a simulation ride... thing. Also, I'm kind of a wimp, and the huge warning signs at the entrance kind of freaks me out XD;;;

Lol, the Matterhorn sequence! 8D Thanks for that, really. They don't have that attraction in any of the other parks, I was wondering what it was like XD Looks like a lot of fuuuun~! :DDD

i get you twissie i need to go to cali. too^^; XD it does look diffrent.... and star tours is pretty fun XD like u go in a roomthing and like u just enjoy the rida as like ur supposted to be like taking a tour of the galaxy or something and u then somehow get caught up in the battle of one movie when they blow up the death star(kinda forgot which one atm^^;) its ok and like a few yrs back my friends and i went on it back to back like 5 times XD

and disney philarmagic is pretty fun as well XD its like a 3d movie where we're the audience getting ready to watch a orhistra performance from mickey, but like somehow donald, being the selfish duck he is, goes and get his but into various sences of disney movies and its all in 3d ^^

Star Tours is pretty dope, there's tons of visuals while you're waiting in line - the ride itself is like those movie screen rides u see in Carnivals that smell like shoes XD but of course way better, whole place shaking and rocking like you really flying or about to fall off the edge!!! Matterhorn is one of my faves too, like when u go into the snow cave and its like you're trapped and the walls are spinning :dizzy:

S/mileage visits Tokyo Disneyland XD Minnie a gracious host! you can see IshiYoshi drooling in the corner:

I'm not really a huge fan of Annie Leibovitz, but she did a series of pictures called Disney Dream Portraits and I have to admit, they're pretty awesome.

I think there actually are more of them.. though I'm too lazy to search around right now. Anyway, the blog said "The three latest Disney Dream Portraits are the first new images in the series since 2009, and for the first time we’ve included a couple of the most wicked Disney villains ever!" soooo yeeees. Wonder what other characters they've portrayed in this way... and what celebrities they got for them <,<;;

I just wish these images were larger so that I could use them as wallpaper for my computer at work T_T;

Found a blog with more pictures (though even tinier T___T) http://missgeeky.com/2008/01/29/annie-leibovitzs-disney-dream-portrait-series/ (http://missgeeky.com/2008/01/29/annie-leibovitzs-disney-dream-portrait-series/)

And then here's another blog with links to some hi res versions, they don't feature any text, though :/ (apart from the Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella ones) http://iconicphotos.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/disney-dream-portrait-series/ (http://iconicphotos.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/disney-dream-portrait-series/)

... Whoopi Goldberg as Genie 8D;; Also, I'm deeply offended to have Beckham as Prince Phillip, eeew. I think my favourite portrait is Snow White. It's beautiful :heart:

Official statement regarding Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea following the earthquake in Japan:

"Following the earthquake that occurred today, we [OLC] have decided to suspend operations at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea on Saturday, March 12 in order to conduct inspections at all facilities. As for operations from March 13 and beyond, that has yet to be determined at this point in time. As of now, we have not confirmed any injuries among our guests or cast members."

Thousands of guests were forced to stay overnight in the park(s?);

i was thinking about disney after i saw a pic of the poor gundam being pretty much broken in half waist down. good to know that everyone's alright and are trying to find some light in this situation.

I'm pretty sure that pic of the Gundam was a fake, though, but yeah xD;;;

ETA: Wow, it's a small world (... pun intended?), an old classmate of mine was one of the many who had to spend the night in Tokyo Disneyland :o Only found out because they reported it to a Norwegian newspaper XDDD;;; Really couldn't believe it when it turned out I knew the people involved, I usually hate all the "NORWEGIANS CAUGHT IN_____" reports that flood in after events like this (why are we so self centered? T___T Norwegian news coverage is so... uuugh).

I think it's more a question of making sure that everything is safe. There hasn't been reports of noticeable damage from inside the parks.

Here's a video from when the earthquake hit Disneyland. I'm glad to see that it was during the time when people were waiting for parades. It means that most people were already sitting on the ground when it hit.

You can see everyone bobbing back and forth in rhythm because of the movement of the ground they're sitting on.

I've totally neglected this thread, which is a shame because there's SO MUCH STUFF GOING ON around the parks everywhere.

New attractions have opened, others are underway... (The Little Mermaid attraction at California Adventure Park, Fantasyland expansions, new Star Tours+++)

but meanwhile, I've got this awesome little thing to share;

HAUNTED MANSION EXPANDING PORTRAIT BOOKMARKS! And you can make them yourself. For free! Omg omg omg, I'm so doing this.

(http://hitorimoni.net/n/src/1308368335038582.png) (http://hitorimoni.net/n/src/1308368327200413.png)

and the bookmark will look like this;

(http://hitorimoni.net/n/src/1308368279158342.png)
(with one picture on each side, and then I'm guessing you can tug on an end or something to reveal the full portraits. :D Awesome stuff!

I'd love to visit Disneyland again to check out the new Star Tours. Last time I went was 6 years ago with my cousins, and we actually went twice in less than two months! The second time was for one cousin who had never been there before and couldn't go the first time that year, and we were able to check out the newly-renovated Space Mountain.

I'm disappointed, though, that they got rid of Honey I Shrunk the Audience at all the Disney parks; I've always enjoyed that concept and experience. :( Then again, maybe they can bring that back all redone too in the future while they're at it...could be even more immersive with today's technology.

With those rides, along with Autopia and the general future/technology-focused aesthetics, it's easy to say that Tomorrowland's always been my favorite section of Disneyland. It used to be the first place my family and I would go to back in the day, but the 2005 visits we saved it for later.

Tokyo Disney Resort celebrates 30 years this year! They are celebrating all year round and have named it The Happiness Year! :D

They are already spreading happiness everywhere, and now you can Disneyfy your mobile snaps, Tokyo Disney Resort has launched a free camera app (both for iOS and Android). It lets you add Disney effects to your images, and if you take pictures with it at certain places in the Tokyo parks, something special happens! :O The app also adds something special to your pictures if it registers a smile! :D

(http://hitorimoni.net/n/src/1363525801245405.png)

You can get the app here:
Android (http://"https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.happinesscam) - iOS (http://"https://itunes.apple.com/app/happinesscam/id604407011?mt=8")

I was also browsing YouTube and found this Disney Resort special from last year. They are not doing the Easter Parade this year due to Happiness Year celebrations, but I think all the other facts, tips and tricks still apply ;) although the food menus has most likely changed 8D

If any of you are in San Francisco, or plan to go there sometime between now and September, make sure to stop by the Walt Disney Family Museum. They are currently doing a Mary Blair exhibition, I really wish I could go see it. Let me live vigorously through you!

(http://hitorimoni.net/n/src/1395259860019394.jpg)

The exhibition is up March 13 to September 7, 2014.

Quote
MAGIC, COLOR, FLAIR: the world of Mary Blair features some 200 works and explores all phases of Blair’s work by examining her artistic development in three major areas: “Learning the Rules”—her student days at Los Angeles’ legendary Chouinard School of Art, and her fine art regionalist watercolors exhibited in the 1930s. “Breaking the Rules”—her artistic breakthrough with boldly colored, stylized concept paintings for classic Disney animated features during the 1940s and 1950s, including Saludos Amigos (1942) and Peter Pan (1953); and “Creating New Worlds”—freelancing in the 1950s in New York where she became a popular illustrator for national advertisements, magazine articles, clothing designs, window displays, theatrical sets, and children’s books. - See more at: http://www.waltdisney.org/blair#sthash.zlksiTl6.dpuf (http://www.waltdisney.org/blair#sthash.zlksiTl6.dpuf)

I did some very belated spring cleaning, and realised that I bought my Shellie May a new outfit during my last visit to Tokyo DisneySea. This was last year during their 30th anniversary The Happiness Year celebrations.

I put it on the bear now, and oh my gosh, this outfit is so adorable. I want to make myself a full size version of this to wear to the parks :lol:

So golden yellow, silky, and sparkly~ I love the head piece!

Any other Duffy or Shellie May collectors here? Show off your favourite costumes~!

The new attraction Seven Dwarfs Mine Train opened up in New Fantasyland in Disney World today :D I was looking for pictures/videos of the ride, but found this fun little game instead.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/attractions/magic-kingdom/seven-dwarfs-mine-train/ (https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/attractions/magic-kingdom/seven-dwarfs-mine-train/)

Click through to find out what your dwarf name is (XDDDD), play through the whole game to get a cute certificate and a hilarious miner's handbook. This is great stuff. If you bring a printout of your certificate to Town Hall at Disney World, you'll get it officially stamped as well. Uuugh, jealous at all the little kids who get to do that XD

My dwarf name is Preppy, what do you guys get?

ETA; and we have video from the opening :D Man, this ride looks like so much fun! Unnnnngh. I need to go to the Magic Kingdom :| Apparently, this ride features a hidden Oswald :O!
