“Ah Yuria! There you are.”
The voice attracted the woman’s attention, viewing the rosy-cheeked teenager waddling towards her as she waved to her kouhai before seeing her coming to a complete stop.
“Sorry Non. It was getting a bit busy so I had moved towards the other end of the station.” Yuria bowed. “How was the ride from Nagoya?”
“Long but I managed to get here before our scheduled time.” Non, Kimoto Kanon, answered swiftly as the first sight peering out from the station was the café.
Yuria glanced out upon the scents of the city of electricity, Akihabara. It was a meeting place filled with everything to do although with the cute girl, it was rather funny at times to hang with her during their time in Nagoya. Walking out from the station, the view of AKB café caught her eye as Non stood quietly in front of it.
“Want to go here?” Yuria inquired.
“No. Just interested in the specials.” Non smiled back as they glanced over to the window with the new dishes on display.
Her eyes peered away for a bit to the kaiten restaurant beside it, viewing inside with the loads of men with beers and dishes of sushi upon the counter. She took a deep breath, glaring upon the capacity of the room as time seemed to slow around her. It had been a while with Non since the transfer over to AKB. Tokyo was once the foreign city that she was forced to know by heart, living out in the area away from the towns. She grew uncomfortable with the speed at first with Jurina adjusting her to the setup of the new group.
“Maybe a quick dinner at Yoshinoya?” Non suggested.
“We could. How about we walk around first to enjoy the atmosphere?” Yuria smiled with Non nodding back quickly.
Mei lingered upon Yuria’s mind. Sakai Mei was possessive although in a sense did show her assertive nature. She had those heavy feelings towards Non with no issue of her status. Even with the concurrency with HKT, Yuria saw a supporting female of Kanon. Non’s friendly demeanor drove many to appreciate her warm greeting from Nagoya. Yuria never grew stale of the electric town when she felt the grasp of her hand.
“You don’t mind, right?” Non smirked.
“I would be worried about Meimei.” Yuria laughed.
“She trusts you a lot. Better than Kuumin.” Non responded referring to the former member, Yagami Kumi.
“Kuumin is an idiot. A loveable idiot.” Yuria quipped.
“You still like her?” Non inquired as Yuria turned her eyes to the street.
The answer was simple. She had the feelings for Kuumin. It wasn’t hard to like her but to appreciate her in the form she was meant to find, Yuria wanted someone who wasn’t foolish. She didn’t want to be the mature person although it was her role and she cherished while she was in the group when she turned back to Non.
“I will always do.” Yuria sighed.
“I see. I think it’ll be fun to see you guys go on dates.” Non smiled. “I can see why Akihabara is such a nice place for an outing.”
“I rarely come out and see the nightlife. I usually just perform and get out. Luckily, it isn’t too bad.” Yuria explained, feeling the rumble in her stomach. “I guess dinner should be now.”
“I’m starving.” Non laughed as Yuria checked the time on her phone.
Yuria knew time was against her. The brief visits showed the camaraderie of SKE. Jurina with her news seemed imminent, she wasn’t the same once Rena announced her graduation. Jurina lurked behind, wanting to carry them to the top. Yuria saw the fire but she couldn’t bear Jurina taking it and sought the rest to help her. The decision wasn’t shocking as much as she had set her mind into the depth of the group rather than AKB. Yuria knew where she stood.
“Let’s go!” Non announced, following her into the restaurant.
Yuria picked out the curry for herself and allowed Non to go for her choices. The brief moments in her mind presented a sense of maturity for a young woman. She had let the thought sink in that she was given a role in a team. Being behind everyone, there was no path to it but AKB was offering it like a carrot and forced her to work diligently for the goal. Making it wasn’t enough and gaining respect was second for the new team.
“Something on your mind?” Non asked.
“Just stuff. Never really felt like a leader.” Yuria laughed. “Seems like a dream.”
“I’ve supported you and the rest have seen your growth. They talk about how Yuria had changed since going to Tokyo. I sought a change in Fukuoka and learned to obtain new friends that I cherish.” Non explained with the bowls of hot rice and curry being presented to them.
Yuria scooped the rice and curry, placing it into her mouth quickly. The heat was a non-factor in her mind but observing Non had brought great pleasure from the kid to an adult. She imagined how much time had passed since the debut until now and the trials of being an idol. Quitting was top of her list when life didn’t take her in that direction. Yuria felt willed by her fans and let the memory linger with every scoop of curry rice entering into her mouth.
“I know it was meant to be a meeting but I want to declare it a date.” Non smiled, placing the spoon in the bowl. “Nothing really personal about it just the atmosphere and sometimes when you just wander off in your thoughts.”
“That is all on me.” Yuria laughed between bites.
“I’m enjoying this. Just want to say that come back to Sakae when possible.” Non scooped the last bit and placed it into her mouth.
Yuria snickered that it was over as quick as it was starting. She liked the company from Nagoya. Home had always brought her back to earth and it remained that way with SKE. Paying for the bill, Yuria felt like she could be carried off into another world. Non was the cheerful type who brought the best out of people and even through her struggles, it wasn’t without courage. She purely was the guide for the new generation and with the slight nod, Non bowed her head.
“Thanks for the date.” She bent her body forward.
“It was no problem. I’ll be back soon.” Yuria announced as Non ran to the station.
Nostalgia lingers when you least expect it. Before the changes, Yuria knew where she stood in the group. Now, it was with AKB as a captain. She threw the dream away for SKE fame for AKB prowess but never forgetting the roots set in Nagoya as her hometown that would root for her from afar.
