And now Nashville will begin looking for it's second Head Coach in team history.  :O

Trotz out as Predators coach after 15 years
Monday, 04.14.2014 | By John Manasso - NHL.com Correspondent

NASHVILLE -- In what can only be described as a heart-felt love letter to the Nashville Predators and the city he called home for 17 years, Barry Trotz said an emotional goodbye on Monday to the organization that he coached from its inception, a span of 1,196 regular-season games.

"I'm from Dauphin, Manitoba, and I didn't know much about Nashville," Trotz said. "I was in Portland, Maine, working for their minor-league team. I never thought I could find a better place, better people. Come to Nashville, I found out. It's incredible."

Always among the most accommodating and thoughtful coaches in the NHL with the media, Trotz proved no different on a day when general manager David Poile announced that the Predators would seek a new coach after 15 seasons, 557 wins and seven appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs under Trotz.

Trotz, who was offered a different job within the organization, said he had "zero ill will" towards the franchise, but that he wants to coach next season and would accept a position if offered one. Poile said he would grant another NHL team permission to talk to Trotz if the Predators are asked.

"I love you all," said Trotz, wearing a shirt with no logo while sitting at the same table where he had presided after postgame press conferences. "I love Nashville, but now I'm going to have to beat you."

Tonight, at the NHL's offices in Toronto, they held the Lottery for the 2014 NHL Draft. I could spoil it, or you could just click the link and watch the video yourself. :)

You can buy an NHL player's game-worn jock on eBay
Here's your chance to own a very special piece of equipment once worn by Tyler Seguin

April 22, 2014 2:00 PM | By FOX Sports

Have you ever wanted to own an NHL player's game-worn cup?

No?

Yes?

Well, we have good news for those who answered yes. Tyler Seguin's game-worn cup is now for sale on ebay ... and it comes with a certificate of authenticity!
Here are the details on the cup, via the seller's eBay auction page:
Quote
Up for sale is Tyler Seguin's game used cup from his jock strap. Acquired after the Bruins had flopped to the Capitals in the 1st round. The cup was purchased before the annual Bruins equipment sale at Pure Hockey in Medford. My buddy worked at Pure Hockey and manage to set aside a few items. One of the items was the jock strap. The fabric of the jock strap had a nasty sweat smell plus was torn on the side so I threw it out but kept the plastic cup. Purchasing the cup was ment to be a joke. Comes with a COA.
Seguin now plays for the Dallas Stars, which makes this even more of a collector's item.

EDIT:
For the record, as of this post, it's still available for anyone interested, it looks like it ended up selling for $250 USD. XD

Capitals fire Oates as coach, won't renew GM McPhee
Saturday, 04.26.2014 | By Adam Vingan - NHL.com Correspondent

WASHINGTON -- Displeased with the direction the Washington Capitals were trending, owner Ted Leonsis and president Dick Patrick let go of general manager George McPhee and coach Adam Oates.

The Capitals announced the changes Saturday following a two-week organizational investigation. Leonsis and Patrick met with McPhee and Oates on Thursday before making their final decision late Friday.

"It came down honestly to, after all of the work that we did and the due diligence for Dick and I, to sit down and say, 'Do we think this team with this leadership can compete for and win a Stanley Cup going into next season?' And our answer was obviously no," Leonsis said Saturday. "That's why we made the change."

McPhee's contract was not renewed, ending his nearly 17-year tenure with the Capitals. He was the third-longest tenured general manager in the NHL behind Lou Lamoriello of the New Jersey Devils and Jim Rutherford of the Carolina Hurricanes.

During that time, McPhee oversaw a rebuild that revived a downtrodden franchise and established Washington as a regular-season juggernaut. From 2007-08 to 2012-13, the Capitals won the Southeast Division five times and the Presidents' Trophy in 2009-10.

Those regular-season results never translated into Stanley Cup Playoff success. Washington reached the 1998 Stanley Cup Final in McPhee's first season, but has yet to advance past the second round since.

The Capitals' postseason streak ended this season at six, which was enough for ownership to make a change.

Icethetics blog - Original Canucks logo designer tells his story
April 29, 2014

The Vancouver Canucks treated us to a great video today with the story of how the original 1970 logo came about.

Former graphic designer Joe Borovich is interviewed in the three-minute video about his timeless contribution to the franchise.
Quote
When I first designed the logo I was a graphic designer. I'm retired now. But at the time I was freelancing on my own. I was a hockey fan all my life and then in 1969 I heard rumors that the Canucks were coming into the NHL.

With that in mind, I decided to take some time and come up with a logo and see if I could submit it.

When you do a logo, they indicate that you should try and bring in the initial of the company and also what they do. I ended up with the initial "C" for Canucks — although a lot of people didn't see it initially — made up of the overall shape of the hockey rink with a stick going through making the "C." And of course the stick is the tool they use so I had three components there.

I worked about a week on this situation. I came up with the stick in the rink and then I applied it to the uniforms. I decided on blue and green and white. Then I took it to the Canucks office.
The Canucks resurrected Borovich's original logo and uniform design for a few nights during the team's 40th anniversary in 2010.

A modernized version of the logo has been in use on the Canucks' uniforms since 2007.

By the way, I have to credit the video producer for acknowledging the club's hilarious variety of visual identities right off the bat, saying: "Canuck fans have have quite a selection of team logos and uniforms to cheer for over the years."

That they have.

Finals are set.

Thing is......best case scenario, I wanted a Chicago VS Montreal final. If I had only gotten one out of two, I could've lived with it. As it stands, I got neither, so now I don't know who to cheer for when the finals start on Wednesday.

And the Kings take it in 5 (KT will be happy for sure :P ). And when I say 5, I don't just mean the fact that they won the series in 5 games, but also that the goal that clinched it was scored in the 5th overtime period of the series.

Ducks to retire Selanne's No. 8 on Jan. 11 vs. Jets
Friday, 08.01.2014

The Anaheim Ducks will retire Teemu Selanne's No. 8 prior to their home game against the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 11, the team announced Friday.

"Teemu is our franchise icon and deserves to be the first player in club history to have his jersey retired," Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli said in a statement. "His dedication to this franchise and our community is unmatched. We eagerly anticipate Jan. 11, when we pay tribute to a world-class player, ambassador and champion, our own Teemu Selanne."

Selanne began his NHL career in 1992-93 by setting NHL rookie records with 76 goals and 132 points with the original Jets (now the Arizona Coyotes). But he spent the majority of his career in Anaheim, where he had the other two 50-goal seasons of his career, scoring 51 in 1996-97 and 52 in 1997-98.

"What a great honor," Selanne said in a statement issued by the Ducks. "The Samuelis and the entire Ducks organization have made this a very special place for me and my family. I look forward to sharing this special night with our fans, who have treated me so well for 18 years."

Selanne spent his last nine seasons with Anaheim and had 48 goals in 2006-07, when the Ducks won their only Stanley Cup. He had nine goals and 27 points in 64 games last season and finished his NHL career with 684 goals and 1,457 points in 1,451 regular-season games.

He is 11th on the NHL all-time list for goals, 15th in points, third in power-play goals (255) and tied for third in game-winning goals (110).

Selanne is Anaheim's all-time leader in almost every offensive category, including goals (457), assists (531), points (988), plus/minus (plus-120), games (966), power-play goals (182), game-winning goals (77), overtime goals (6) and shots (2,964). He is the franchise leader in Stanley Cup Playoff goals (35), power-play goals (15), game-winning goals (8 ), shots (274) and games (96).

He helped Finland win one silver medal and three bronze medals in the Winter Olympics.

The Ducks will reveal more information about "Teemu Tribute Night" at a later date.

While it's cool that we'll be able to continue to see him play this season...it's going to be weird to see him wearing colors other than red, white and black (be it a Devils jersey or a Team Canada jersey). Personally, I'd love to see him reach 700 wins (he only needs 12 to do so).

Brodeur signs one-year contract with Blues
Tuesday, 12.02.2014

HAZELWOOD, Mo. -- Martin Brodeur said he had no intention of retiring, even if it meant sitting out the entire 2014-15 season.

The 42-year-old, who had spent his entire 21-season career with the New Jersey Devils and holds nearly all NHL goaltending records, will resume his career with the St. Louis Blues after agreeing Tuesday to a one-year contract worth a pro-rated base pay of $700,000.

And obviously, he's going to need a new helmet to go with his new contract. Familiar artwork/design on the sides and chin, with a new/different logo on the forehead and overall colour scheme.
