I have the HTC Hero and recently upgraded it to the Android 2.1 operating system (used to be 1.5). Not as easy as an iPhone update where you just press a button and it does it for you, I had to do some searching before being told that Orange, my service provider, were not permitting the release of 2.1 for whatever reason. It was strange as other service providers in the UK were doing it but not them. Funny enough as I found out about this, a group on Facebook started up basically demanding it happened and about a week later I had to go to the HTC website and download the ROM for it. So I had to download the ROM and run it, but at the cost of upgrading it had to delete everything I had on it. Text messages, any multimedia files I had, apps and even my contact list. But it's all done now, all good, and it runs even better. Very pleased with the HTC Hero, I'd gladly recommend it for someone who's looking to get a relatively cheap smartphone. I actually got mine for £40 as I was able to get a phone upgrade due to the Orange contract. I was either going to go with the HTC Tattoo or the Sony Ericsson Mini Experia for free but the reviews said the touchscreens were restrictive and there was less power than others from the same company. It's understandable, it's an option for people who want a smartphone dirt cheap, I just felt that with the extra £40 I could get something a bit more substantial and bang for my buck.

My ringtone is the instrumental version of 'Reach Out To The Truth' from the Persona 4 soundtrack:

Persona 4 - Reach Out To The Truth -Inst version- (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddA7h9ahaKY#)

And my message ringtone is the victory fanfare from FFVII

I got some broke ass Motorola Rival (given to me, would never buy this). It's a slider. The touch screen ONLY works for dialing, but who manually dials regularly? Even worse, it's faster and more reliable just to use the physical keys on the keyboard. The two shoulder buttons are touchvibration sensitive, so I'm always going into menus I don't want to. The keyboard is tiny but acceptable. The software is bizarre and makes me sad. The call quality is horrible.

LEAST BALLER SHIT EVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER

Verizon isn't terrible in their service, at least.

I want a fancy Android-supporting phone, but I don't got the dough right now. Got that Droid 2 and Droid X out soon or something? :hump:

While ago my LG KM900 Arena crapped out so I had to buy a new phone. I was looking for a cheap Android based phone and found the LG GT540. It has the old 1.6 version of Android but I heard there's a OS update coming for this phone (hoping the update would be to 2.1  :nervous). So far the phone has been pretty awesome. OS is fairly straightforward and easy to use and it's fast. Browser loads pages well and it's smooth (zooming works by a +- button).

I still have my (now) rather old Sony Ericsson K800 but hey, it had a front and back camera decades before iphone so it's cool~ (though I never use the front one).
Pretty much all I do with my mobile phone is receiving text messages and sometimes sending them so any phone would work. Actually I use it more as camera than as phone.

Browsing the web with a smartphone sounds fun, especially getting android idol pb apps so if I ever have money I'll get some android phone and a carrier that has an internet flatrate since without such I would never use the internet on my phone I think (like my phone already has a browser but I never go online since it's too expensive...).

One of my previous mobile phones was the Siemens on daigong's pic (third from left)

I have a Sony Ericsson Z520i. It's... quite old, but still fully functional (except the 5 key which doesn't alway register that I press it xD ). It has camera and bluetooth, but I rarely use those things ^^;  I bought it because it's a clamshell, and I love clamshell phones. I still haven't spotted any good replacement for it (... except in Japan, but can't use those phones in Norway T___T ), so I'll just hold on to it until some other pretty clamshell becomes available.

My ringtone is Kaizers Orchestra's Maestro, and my message received alert is Janove Ottesen (Kaizers Orchestra's vocalist) saying "Ding, ding, you've received a message" (in Norwegian). xD;;;; Though I always have my phone on silent mode, so I never really get to appreciate the alerts :P

Oh yeah, and if you call me and get to my voice mail, you'll hear Veronica Mars picking up the phone... it was a prank thing that I recorded and put up as my voice mail ages ago, and now I don't know how to change it 8D Extremely embarrassing, especially when you call voice mail and hear your boss leaving a confused message on there. Ffffff.

After two years with a terrible Samsung Blast I finally got an iPhone when the 4th gen came out. I have been liking it. The reception problems haven't cropped up for me, and I've been lucky enough not to drop it yet. The down side: $75 a month!

Currently, I have a Palm Centro.  I've used Palm PDAs for years, and this smartphone can do pretty much everything I want.  Unfortunately, Palm seems to have very little of the market now, and it seems like all new apps I hear about are made for iPhone and Android devices.  I had planned to upgrade to a Palm Pre or a newer webOS device, if one came out, but given the points just noted, I'm looking at switching to Android.  At the moment, I'm kind of debating between the HTC Evo and the Samsung Epic, both 4G devices on Sprint.  They seem fairly close in most aspects -- does anyone have some input on these, perhaps some things that are worth noting but not obvious from specs?  Thanks!

I always wanted to get a docomo phone, but in Singapore the 3G doesn't work and it cost like 800 SGD
So i feel that there's no point in buying a phone that's so expensive and can't use 3G service.
In the end I got a IPhone4 instead. I really love my phone now lol

Hmmm, now that I actually have a real job I'm thinking about getting myself a new phone. I still love my Z520i, but it would be good to have a phone I can do gadgety stuff with (like... update twitter, maybe even upload pictures? 8D; ). My problem is that I don't like the look of most current phones :/ I don't want an iPhone (I already have an iPod Touch and an iPad, it would just feel like total overkill @___@; )... I'd love a clamshell style phone, but I'm having trouble finding... wish I could say "a good one", but I'm having trouble finding clamshell phones in general. :(

Any tips? 8D What's the trendiest girly phone right now? I tend to like girly phones, even though I hate that they market stuff specially for girls 8D Hahaha.

I have the iPhone 4s. It's pretty nice, but it's kind of annoying because almost everyone has them (at least where I live) and anywhere I go there's like seriously, ten other people with the same phone as me. Also both my close friends have the iPhone 4s too (all three of us have it in white too)
Although I will admit that I would much rather have this phone than the shitty Nokia phone I had previously. The only thing I have to complain about it is that there's no built in hole to put a strap through.

What kinda phone?
- I have a samsung galaxy s4

What cell phone plan do you have?
- unlimited text/picture message/calling everywhere in canada, voicemail/call display. and 3gig worth of data for 61$ including tax a month.
What carrier?
- Bell
Funny stories with cell phone customer service?
- not really funny, but it took me atleast 10-15 mins to actually say ' hey i want an s4, what plan do you recommend, and BAM i have everything settled in 15 mins ' Quick service. it is so far the best plan in the market because others are a rip off when it comes to data.
Funny stories where you cell phone has been?
- under my pillow, couldn't find the thing for an hour.. the ringtone was muffled through the pillow so calling it didnt work
What phones you looking forward to?
- nothing really. im pretty happy with my phone right now, its one of the best in the market i believe.

Get a phone with sufficient storage, NOT a microSD card. Here's my story:

-I had 2 files, A & B, in the internal storage, I wanted to move to micro SD card
-file A moved to MicroSD/Movies, tried to move file B to same folder, "cannot move file. The device has either stopped responding or been disconnected." So I tried restarting the phone while it's still connected to my PC
-Now Computer/ASUS_T00P on Win 7 is blank. No "internal storage" or "MicroSD"
-here's the best part: I go back to my phone& see that Movies folder VANISHED from /MicroSD which means file A probably probably also gone

I'm thinking about buying the Lumia 640 XL when it becomes available in the US: http://www.gsmarena.com/microsoft_lumia_640_xl-review-1250.php

For a great number of reasons, I'm fixing to move away from Android (and probably other Google services). $650 is too much to drop on an iPhone, so this looks like my next best bet. At any rate, my Nexus 4 is definitely showing its age. Anyone have experience with Windows Mobile? The forthcoming support for Android and iOS apps makes it even more appealing..

I have been using Windows Phones for the last few years now (plus an Android to check things out and compare)

I have used them from the Samsung Omnia 7 on to now the Lumia 925 and am very satisfied still with how things are working, although I do not really like the trend towards the 'hamburger menu' at the top left. I prefer to be able to use my phone one handed (but then the screen size has to be not to large either)

Looking at what is coming (W10 and Continuum) I am very interested in what is going to happen later this year.

I think the 640XL is a good choice, if you want you can add the Microsoft Band to the mix (tried is for a week which is 6 days longer then the fitbit lasted :) )

Switched from a Sony Xperia Z1 to an iPhone 6 Plus. I need it unlocked since I travel a lot, and non-Apple unlocked phones are a pain in the butt to find in Canada. The battery on the Z1 started wearing out way too fast since the Lollipop upgrade.

Gave it an honest try, but god damn is iOS awful. Returning it and switching to a OnePlus 2 when it comes out.

Just invest in a good quality protective case and you'll be fine. A case that advertises itself as being "rugged (https://www.google.ca/#safe=off&q=rugged+phone+cases)" or one that has/uses silicone (such as Otterbox (http://www.otterbox.com/), Ballistic (https://www.goballisticcase.com/), or the Griffin Survivor (http://griffintechnology.com/survivor)) usually provide the best protection, not to mention peace of mind. Each brand has it's own selection of different models/types of cases to choose from. Depending on how much protection you're looking for and how you usually handle/use your phone on a daily basis, you should be able to find something that you like. Sure, some of the options out there may be bulky (which a lot of people complain about), but if you really want to protect your phone so that, as you said, you're not putting money in the trash, isn't it worth it?

I personally go with Ballistic cases because they have additional/extra silicone padding in the four corners of the phone for extra protection from corner drops. Specifically, I use/have the Tough Jacket Maxx (https://www.goballisticcase.com/shop/samsung/galaxy-note-3/tough-jacket-maxx/#.VYcQtJNdWSo) for my Galaxy Note 3.  Despite what was said in those 2 drop test videos you posted, in terms of severity as well as in terms of what happens most often, phones will suffer the most damage when they are dropped and land on their corners. After that, comes landing flat on the front, then the sides/top/bottom, and then flat on it's back.

Just invest in a good quality protective case and you'll be fine.
Every phone needs case which is designed for it. I will be limited to products/brands which are available in stores in my town.
I will probably buy successor to Lumia 535. For Lumia 535 I found cases without detailed description which cost $10-$15, but it isn't clear if some of them can really protect $110 phone.

It is possible that phone with case won't fit into pocket or it will bend. I won't do drop/bend tests and there are probably no videos.

You can always order online through a manufacturer's website, or search sites such as Ebay or Amazon for something specifically designed to fit the phone you have.

For example, this one person I know purchased this case off of Ebay for less than USD$15 (that's including shipping costs). Don't let the price fool you; a lot of times, these sellers buy their stock in bulk, so they are able to sell them for really good prices. It is a 2-part/2-layer case that is thin enough that it easily fits in his pocket but that also protects his phone quite well (which is good for him because he has a tendency to drop it at least once or twice a week  ).

If the case is not advertised as being "rugged" or as being made of silicone, it's not going to provide the same amount of protection for your phone if you drop it. Both of the cases you have linked are "flip cover" cases, and upon looking at them, they're just made of thin plastic. They'll provide some limited protection from scratches if you put your phone in your pocket and also have your keys/loose change in them, but if you were to drop your phone, they'll probably do nothing. I have seen several of my students using this type of "flip cover" case, and yes, a few of them have dropped their phones, and all of those phones suffered damage (cracked/broken screens).

It is possible that phone with case won't fit into pocket or it will bend. I won't do drop/bend tests and there are probably no videos.
Unless you make a habit of wearing pants that are "skin tight" on you, the majority of phone cases (even the rugged/silicone/"bulky" ones) out there are designed so that they can fit into your pocket. The few that cannot are usually the ones that have/use a belt clip (like the one I have) or they tell you that if you use them, you should be keeping your phone in your purse. As far as whether or not it will bend, well that's not really an issue of the case, but rather, a problem with the phone itself.

In the end, it is your choice, of course. After all, it's your phone that you want to protect. When it comes to cases, there's a bit of a trade-off that you must be willing to accept when you're looking at form (usually "Do I like how it looks?" or "Will fit in your pocket?") versus function ("Will it protect my phone if I drop it?"). Just keep in mind that cases that are advertised as "slim" or "sleek" will likely fit into your pocket easier, but THAT is what they're designed for (i.e. they are designed more for looks/pocketability rather than protecting your phone from drops), so you'll need to be extra careful when you handle your phone. You can find rugged/silicone cases out there that will fit in your pocket, though you may have to search online instead of limiting yourself to what you can find in the stores in your town.

Switched the iPhone 6s. Love the design, power, and apppppps.

Lumia 640 was great for its camera and battery life, but not much else. I plan to keep it as a testing device, at least. Windows Phone 10 looks interesting, and Android app support might be cool.

I had a 3310. Definitely one of, if not the most solid/reliable phone I ever had.

EDIT: Found a few more vids comparing the original version versus the upcoming newer one.

There must really, REALLY be a significant (i.e. CRAZY HUGE) demand for flip phones for them to do this.

Just invest in a good quality protective case and you'll be fine. A case that advertises itself as being "rugged (https://www.google.ca/#safe=off&q=rugged+phone+cases)" or one that has/uses silicone
I'm using low end phone which probably doesn't have gorilla glass with thin TPU case and it survived multiple low height drops without damage.
Does missing gorilla glass make it more resistant against screen cracks?

EDIT:

Cons:
Fragile: The most obvious disadvantage to glass is that it can break. Sure, metal and plastic can also break and while Gorilla Glass provides significant protection, glass can still completely shatter when dropped or hit in the wrong part of the handset. Broken phone screen are testament to the key disadvantage to glass.
