here's the press release:

Anaheim, CA – April 27, 2010 – Anime Expo® is pleased to announce today that Japanese musical super group, AKB48, will be official Guests of Honor at its July convention. Anime Expo, the United States’ largest anime and manga convention, is scheduled for July 1 – 4, 2010, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. AKB48 will perform live in Nokia Theater on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at 4:30 p.m. The members will also participate in attendee panels, meet-and-greets and autograph sessions.

The all-female musical group, created in 2005 by award-winning songwriter and producer, Yasushi Akimoto, has enjoyed much success and increased popularity over the course of their career.  In addition to releasing several popular singles and albums, the 63 members of AKB48 perform regularly to a full-house crowd at their exclusive theater in Akihabara. Many members of the group are also featured in movies, television shows, magazines and various other special appearances.

AKB48’s latest single, Sakura no Shiori, sold an impressive 370,000 copies in its first week of release in February of 2010. Shortly after, the group released their second studio album, Kamikyokutachi, which debuted at the top spot of the Oricon album chart. It’s no secret that the spunky, fashion-forward members of AKB48 have captured the hearts of fans all over the world.

AKB48 comes to America to deliver a one-of-a-kind, powerhouse performance exclusively for Anime Expo attendees. The group members are passionate about representing and spreading Japanese pop culture to American fans. “We are delighted to welcome AKB48 as our special dream ambassadors to this year’s expo and experience the smiles they will create for our fans,” says SPJA President and CEO Michael Lattanzio. “Hosting these superstars in Los Angeles will no doubt help bridge the gap between America and Japan, and create a global culture that each of us can connect to.”

AKB48 joins Anime Expo’s 2010 line-up along with voice actor Katsuyuki Konishi, Eden of the East trio Kenji Kamiyama, Satoru Nakamura and Tomohiko Ishii, voice actor Kyle Hebert, animation director Toshihiro Kawamoto, seiyuu Yuu Asakawa, J-rock band Sophia, and anime director Shinichi “Nabeshin” Watanabe. Oh no!

Great they'll be here. Terrible it's part of ax. Better that it's at the nokia theater. Bad it's the first day of the convention with the shitty pointless registration process.

But I'll slog it out.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!

I can't believe it! :w00t:

It's ironic to me. Last year, during a failed morning Slurpee run attempt, I was talking to somebody who was trying to get the girls last year. They must have paid a HELLUVA lot of money to get them for this. I might go ahead and go to this one, gotta figure out the things I need to do RIGHT.

btw, I have NO idea on the girls and I can't go through Baldie's threads to do them either. someone might want to PM me with the things and music to get ready for it. I still can't believe they're actually coming.

^ ckd, give the AKB Multimedia section a look. The discography thread (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=20830.msg605121#msg605121) should have all of their music; the songs that they will probably include the latest 3-4 singles, which you can find in one handy package that is their album 「Kamikyokutachi」. :thumbup

Yea its too bad its really late that they got annouced. Ill make shure to take a gazillion pictures for you guys thats not coming.
Definitely gonna be waiting for those :thumbsup

For curiosity's sake, which members went to NY?

The list of members is in the first post of the NY thread (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=20812.0). :thumbup

Man, this is so tempting to go. Would involve flying from the midwest and the whole deal. Not sure if I'll be able to skip work (hopefully, I'll have a job...). Damniiiiiit! They come back when I now know the group really well but again it's to the damn coasts.

...Heh, should have thought of that :nervous

Hm..looking at the list of members for NY, I wouldn't be surprised if they went with the idea of sending (new) Team A and Team K overseas again while (new) Team B, Team Kenkyuusei and SDN hold down the fort back home. Or at least that concept of sending representatives of two teams while keeping the 3rd team in Japan to keep the theater going. Though we all know that Acchan and Sayaka are pretty much guaranteed to be going...

Wasn't planning on going, buuuuuuuuut I've been craving the adventure from last year  So imma go
I don't really know AKB, but who knows, maybe I'll just go crazy and watch every show/pv/movie/drama they've been in before I go and become their biggest fan  or not (lol) I'll do a fair share of research so I'm at least a semi-fan.  :) Or I'll just pretend they're MM and go crazy like last year XD j/k
So whose heading out? Is there a thread for this discussion?
It'll be me and my brother for sure and maybe 2 others.
Let's PARTY!!!

EDIT:
Okay now it's definitely gonna be 4 in my posse.
We'll be going around Little Tokyo and Chinatown after all the AX stuff and definitely gonna hit up a bowling joint!
The more the merrier!! Who wants to get their asses kicked in a friendly bowling match? :D

^ Props for the info. I saw that package but I decided to just save my money. I'm going to be lining up for day zero WAY early, so I'm sure I'll do fine in the seating. For those who are regular con goers, that's actually a pretty sweet deal with nice bonuses. I'm mostly going just for AKB48. :thumbup

Also, to those waiting to register, the concert tickets are UP!!! They were put up last night. I'm about to get mine. I doubt they are going to sell out at all(Nokia holds like 7000 people XD ), but I'd still get them ordered as early as possible just in case.

I'm a fairly irregular poster, but I'm totally going. My girlfriend and I basically rearranged our whole summer for this trip. XD

And nobody will ever take the place of Morning Musume for me, but AKB are wicked awesome live, and I've really come to like them a lot, as well. I saw them at Webster Hall in NYC, and they were really great.

I just hope they don't recieve the same supposed poor treatment that Momusu did from the CEO at AX last year. And I really hope they've learned their lesson and everything is more organized this year. :/ AX is not the con I'd pick for them to perform at, but all I can do is support them, I guess. XD

Best bet is the Westin cuz that's where MM stayed last time, you'll bound to run into them!!

It's all on the site. http://www.anime-expo.org/registration/hotels/ (http://www.anime-expo.org/registration/hotels/)

is the preffered seating the one you buy for $15 extra? if so this package might not be so attracting.... for me atleast

That's the one. I'll have to ask, but you prolly can get preferred seating without the package - it looks like that. Fenrir will be staffing again :)

Hmm, I'm not sure, looks like they changed the rules and do not let you line up early to get to the merchandise table for the autograph tickets so, it might be worth it.

We have immense threads for every last facet of the group and every single girl, a multimedia section with everything recent they've ever done, links to their blogs and other offsite resources, a new huge perv section for all your skin and fapping needs, and almost anything else you need to know can be found on google or either the two other big AKB (http://stage48.net/forum) forums (http://forum.nihongogo.com/). Watch the PV's, listen to the singles, albums and stages, watch the concerts and stages and decide if you like one or not. If you're not willing to do that then you're not really into the group.

Did anyone watch the videos off the AX site? lol I expected a special message:

AKB48 is coming to Anime Expo! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bATyTjc6Ftk#ws)
AKB48: Special Dream Ambassadors for Anime Expo 2010! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUu-NJgbTLs#ws)

Tsk. I'm so sad I can't go due to "moral" reasons

I'm gonna be in Canada that day BUT the 1st is Canada Day and my Canadian friend would kill me if I told him: "I want to spent Canada day in the US"

Yea, it's tragicomic.

Awww...hey, I celebrated Canada Day in the US  It's not an AKB48 Fan Meetup without you! :/

who's gonna see them at the airport?

This is a guess, but I think their arrival is harder to predict than mm's was. I get the impression they allowed themselves more time in NY last year and might do the same her in LA, meaning they could arrive some unknown number of days before the expo.

I think the opposite because you can always check AKB48's theater schedule here
http://www.akb48.co.jp/schedule/201005.html (http://www.akb48.co.jp/schedule/201005.html)
On the furthest right it shows who will be absent on that day, meaning that once we know who will be comming all we have to do is check here for their schedules.
My random guess is that they will be arriving on 6/30

Hi everyone! I'm new here, but not new to AX.  :twothumbs

I'm definitely going to see the lovely girls at AX 2010! It was fun seeing MM last year. I know many people had complaints about last year, but I had not encounter any major problems. I thought West Hall was a great place to perform their concert. I wouldn't mind having it there again. There were so many seats available! As I have been inside Nokia Theater before, there's limited seating in there, compared to the one in West Hall. Nokia is awesome inside, with comfortable seats, too.

Here's a FAQ on getting tickets: http://www.anime-expo.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12605 (http://www.anime-expo.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12605)

It's $15 only after you buy your 4 day pass. I believe the $50 you are referring to is the early bird price if you had purchased between July 8th - Nov. 30th 2009. It looks confusing, but they forgot to put the year to make it easier on us. To buy a 4 day pass now, pricing has increased to $75  :bleed eyes:.  Below is the pricing and when they increased it:

Important Dates:
4-Day Pass

• July 8th - Nov. 30th 2009
4 day admission $50.00
• Dec.1 2009: 4 day admission
increases to $55.00
• Feb. 1 2010: 4 day admission
increases to $65.00
• May 1 2010: 4 day admission
increases to $75.00

2-Day Pass = $50.00

1-Day Pass = $35.00

Right. You guys seem to know more than other about LAX so here is my question: Let's say I'm going (hypothetically). Since Im interested in AKB only, I buy a 2 day pass. Does that give the right to be in their concert or I have to buy a concert ticket besides the pass I already bought?

If i buy my 2 days pass online, do i have to pick it in LAX or they send it to me? Huh?

Yes, there is a small hope I can go. And with someone u may know from the old JPM times, daigong.

When you say "LAX" are you meaning "AX"??
lol cuz LAX is the airport  XD

But anyway, after you register your 2 day pass you can add the concert ticket right after. It's $50 for a 2 day pass and $15 dollars for the concert ticket. I don't think there's a limit to how many days you have to go to be able to go to the concert. I pretty sure some people are only going for that day. But besides that, everyone has to purchase their concert tickets after purchasing their pass.

You'll pick up your pass and concert ticket at AX, they don't send it to you.
If it's anything like last year, the seating depends on how early you get your tickets. It's like a first-come-first-serve kind of thing.

Hope this helps a little!  :thumbsup

Yes, I mean AX, sorry. :P

I see. So, if I don`t have a day pass I can`t go to the concert, right? I can`t just buy the concert ticket and buy a day pass for the next day (Q&A) session?

If I go to LA, I`d arrive probably the same Thursday so I think it will be a bummer anyways (won`t get good seats).

Right, you have to be registered for that day to go. I just looked it up and if you only register for a 2 day pass, the concert ticket is $30 if you buy it online.
after you've registered you should get an email with a barcode, print that off and bring that and your ID to registration. after you've got your badge, RUN to the ticketing booth and hope you're there in time to get a good seat  :P
you can purchase the ticket that day, but like you said, you probably wont get good seats...

Yeah, all of the closer seats will be taken up on Day 0(day before the con, pre-reg pickup), hopefully one of those by me. Still, Nokia Theater is a real theater and to be honest I highly doubt it will be anywhere near full, so it should be an enjoyable experience for all those going.

I realllllllly wanna know who's going member-wise. I'm so anxious. I'll love it regardless, but I wanna know. 8) I'd also like to know if there will be more AKB events than the panel and such. I'm almost sure there will be, but it would be nice to have some specifics.

I think the attendant members should be the same ones than went to NY. This expo is big so the logic says they'd be sending the best of the best.

Tsk, tickets from Canada to LA are more expensive than I thought. Jesus. And the stupid miles I won with my trip to Japan are worthless. :banghead:

I had never paid for a concert seat. I had always gone to the stand-by line. Sure, the seat were not up front, but it was still a good seat. I don't have to be with the people who are pushing/jumping, if you know what I mean.

Some pointers for the fans who are going to the panel

1. If you want to ask a question in the panel, sit near the microphone.
2. If you want to sit up front, go to the previous panel (maybe the panel before that, if there's even one) and find your preferred seat and stay there. Last time I went, they did not kick people out for every panel. So it's first come first serve. Don't wait until the panel starts to find a good seat.

Team A: Kuramochi Asuka, Kojima Haruna, Sashihara Rino, Takajo Aki, Takahashi Minami, Maeda Atsuko, Maeda Ami
Team K: Akimoto Sayaka, Itano Tomomi, Oshima Yuko, Ono Erena, Nito Moeno, Fujie Reina, Minegishi Minami, Miyazawa Sae
Team B: Kitahara Rie

Think that's all right. XD

MAEDA AMI IS GOING HELL YES. :shocked I was hoping for a few more mid-level members since I seem to be more into those, but this line-up is more than alright. :w00t: Would have been nice to see a little more B representation, though. Still, if only one can go, I can live with Rie. :) Would have like to see Yukirin, tho. Anyway, I'll save my conjecture for later as I'll risk being late for work if I write any more.

Really? I don't recall a memory of Yuki speaking english bad, or.... at all. :nervous That would make it even more fun. "HEY YUKI WAZZZZZZUUUUUUUUUUP!" - ""

And yeah, I love the line-up even if it is mostly just a bunch of front girls. Also, in the blog entry it seems to say that this list is not totally final, so it might change a bit. Still, Sasshi, Akicha, half of awesome Shin Team K, and Rie... more than enough for me. I didn't mean to sound like I was whining about it, I'm way past thrilled. Still, one could ponder all day, "If they brought Rena/Haachan/etc." It's going to be epic. I'm hoping that AKB48 will have more events than what Morning Musume did. In any case, the concert is my #1 priority. I'll do my best to get into whatever else they do, but as long as I got that, everything's gold. :thumbup

maybe a 20-30 min walk (i'm a slow walker :P). If you walk to 7th and Figueroa (about 10-15 min walk), you can take the F DASH bus to LACC and it costs 25 cents. They run every 10 minutes but does not run on 4th of July. Fortunately, i live around there so I'll be taking the car or getting dropped off.

For one, I just want to say DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER THE FIGUEROA HOTEL, unless you like terrible service, dirty rooms, cockroaches, and a boss who will yell you out of the building. That warning said, look at AX's registration if you wanna book through them and see what's still open. I'd have peek but my reservation is in there and I don't wanna mess it up.  :nervous

I sure wish more would be announced. Like if they are having extra events or a booth at the hall and whatnot. I keep having these (likely deluded) fantasies in my head that AKB48 will do multiple little things at the con but I'm probably just getting my hopes up. Oh well, my main goal is the concert and the panel too of course. Anything else is just a nice bonus. My bigger concern is hopefully finding some time to go back to Little Tokyo. Surely there'll be an afternoon where not much is going on at the con and I can bus over there. I really wanna go back there, but my flight's pretty early the day after the con, and kinda late getting in. I guess I could take a cab but I don't know a whole lot about doing that.  :nervous Guess I could walk there but it is a bit of a walk in what doesn't look like the most awesome area. Hopefully they'll walk the hall a bit like NYAF, and I can at least tell the Team K girls how fucking awesome their team is.

@Datalanche: I walked to Little Tokyo by myself on the last day of the expo, almost couldn't find it. scared to walk alone because of all the people out there. If you need someone to go with you or take a bus ride there, I'll go with you.

^ lol, Thanks but I'm sure there'll be one afternoon where AKB isn't going anything at the con. Plus I do have my GPS, although I only got it to work one time in LA last year. :smhid The dart buses make it really quick and easy to get there, but they stop running at... I think it's 5PM. Really wish I could stay an extra day but money's not on my side on that one. :nervous

Hi SakuraTheShadow! :welcome to JPHiP

Yes. there will be a HUGE line, luckily I had my friends go in line for me (I <3 Jabronisaur) and it took them from a little after 2pm to closing time 6pm ?? Guys came after on Day 1 and it didn't take too long.

And yes. devimon2k9 you gotta have a Day pass at least to get a ticket. Two different lines, unless it changed this year.

They never had a "Meet the Guest" with MM last year..... or did they?? :shocked AND I MISSED IT!!!???  :bleed eyes:

They were at the con-wide Meet the Guests breakfast. A few people from here attended it and only found out about it because they had friends on staff. It was not really advertised.

How do we get tickets?

As I'm sure you can tell by cross-posting all over the internet, there's really no solid answers for anyone on anything. Staff is being very quiet right now on all issues. There's a ton of people begging for answers and information about sudden and barely announced changes about shuttles, hotel cut-offs, and so on. Also, if I recall right you aren't coming to day 0. That's when this AKB event is going to be. The con's start and concert is July 1, the day after. To give you my best guess, I'd bet these tickets will be sold at the ticketing counter where you'd pick up your concert ticket. On Day 0, only registration and that are open.

I have a feeling that everyone who wants to go to this event will be able to if you're willing to put in a little camping work. If twitter and the other AKB forums are any indication, interest is not very high even among these places due to the cost and the interest in AKB48 with the typical con people also feels very low compared to all of that j-rock and Nakajima Megumi/May'N stuff going on. Personally, I'm in. I'm also glad this event is taking place before AX itself starts. The way there are no answers for a lot of major issues with only 19 days to go... this con's going to be something else. Still, I guess I shouldn't speak in such definite words. As with all things, I'll do my best to get in, but if I don't, I ain't gonna whine about it. I'm putting in all the effort I can, and I still get to see the concert no matter what. S'all good to me. :thumbup

All I can hope or pray for is that the Day 0 line is inside or at least in some shade. If it isn't, I'm coming over-prepared for another skin cancer-inducing adventure anyway. Thankfully the weather out there is beautiful by my standards. Eighty degrees is a cake walk compared to my Texas 105's. :)

@SakuratheShadow: Try calling Experient 301-694-5243 or 866-229-3691 or email spj-anime@experient-inc.com with your question. A couple months ago when they combined the 2009 and 2010 reg, many people could not log in and emailing Experient helped. Also, in case you still can not print your confirmation, it is really not needed at the time of your badge pickup. It just makes it easier and faster to just scan your barcode from the confirmation. You can just tell them your name and they will find you in their system.

Okay, so about gifts for them.
Is anyone else gonna give gifts?
I've never attempted to give gifts to any famous before so I'm totally lost  :bleed eyes:
I was thinking of somethings to give them and all I could think of was bracelets...
Is that too lame??
I mean, I wanted to be able to give one to each of them cuz I didn't want any of them to feel less liked than the other.
Is that too stupid??  :wth
They come in 8 different colors and I was thinking getting 2 of each...
Or should I just get one color for all of them???
I DUNNO!!!!!  :shocked
Here's what they look like:
(http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs081.ash2/37395_552468054504_207303995_32419466_272583_n.jpg)(http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs161.snc4/37395_552468174264_207303995_32419472_3747985_n.jpg)

What do you guys think?
Should I get them?
If so, should I get 2 of each color, or just one color for all??
and you can be totally hoest and tell me they're ugly too  :)

ANOTHER UPDATE: ABOUT AKB48 MEET AND GREET

Good or Bad news, depending how you take it. This comes from the Cosplay.com board, the poster is actually the Manager for ticketed events, I guess alot of people complained it costs too much...

Quick announcement regarding AKB48 Meet & Greet:

The AKB48 Meet & Greet tickets are FREE. However, there are only 32 available. In order to prevent an attendee riot (or at least minimize the probability), here is the procedure for obtaining a ticket:

Next to the Ticketing booth will be a table manned by AX Ticketing staff. There is a shoebox with 500 raffle tickets inside, 32 of them will be marked. You are only allowed to draw one ticket each, and we will mark your badge as identification. If you draw a marked raffle ticket, you will receive a ticket to the AKB48 Meet & Greet. Attendees with an AX2010 badge may participate, Main Events ticket purchase is NOT required.

Please note, the AKB48 Meet & Greet takes place at 6:00 PM on June 30 (Day 0), so we will start the raffle from the moment registration opens at 3:00 PM.

I guess never believe it until you hit the booth, but supposedly this was posted by BrianY so it's all but official.

All I really have to say on it is that I'm glad I came with this meet and greet as a "maybe" in my head. I'll try to keep my whining to a minimum but I expect nothing short of the worst from anything related to this con. But, no matter. I came for a concert, and I'll get to see them at a panel. Still, this is just as bad as them yanking away then bringing back shuttle passes for attendees and no clarification on the premier stuff. Thank you Anime Expo for getting AKB48 this year. Seeing my #1 group here, I'm glad I don't have to come again.  :twothumbs

This is fucking stupid. Most likely, the winners will be regular con goer weeaboos who don't know or care about the group. I'm sure that'll make the girls feel AWESOME. So much for my "mayuge bo~n" to Aamin.

Moving along to better news...

I've arrived in LA and am at the hotel. Just grabbed some Subway. Let the fun begin tomorrow! :) Oh, and I saw melon pan at Famima. I will be getting some in honor of the wish-she-was-here babe Matsui Rena.

Day report gets. Just FYI, I did not stalk the airport gates or see the girls in any way, so if that's all you want, you'll have to wait! :D

Day 0 of the con is they day pre-registered people can get their badges and stuff. My friend and I woke up at about 6:15AM to make sure we were prepped and ready, and ready we were. Sunscreened, umbrellas in hand, and handheld entertainment galore. Before heading off to the convention, we walked halfway there then back when we realized the Famima store we used last year was closed. :bleed eyes: Luckily there is one right next to the hotel. We got a whole bunch of cookies and Hi-chew and baos and other stuff. I also got the coveted melon pan in honor of Matsui Rena. :) The verdict? oishii!!! :twothumbs We made our way to the convention center and were actually allowed into the building this time. We crossed the whole center and the place was a ghost town. There was almost nothing set up and no people there. We eventually found the line. It was well over 150 people but not too big. We sat down at about 8:30AM and proceeded to wait for six and a half hours. I heard rumors that the people up front had been there since midnight. Day 0 was a bit of a mess last year, but I'm very happy to give props where they are due, and they are due here. The line was handled VERY well by AX staff. When there were issues, staff was there to get us in the right spot. When the line started to loop, extra staff came out to help sort things out and make sure people didn't get out of order. Also, the line was under an awning, so no sunburn (even though I was covered in sunscreen XD )and they were able to keep three or four loops of the line in some kind of shade. I was impressed by the line management. Good job, Anime Expo. :) We played with DS's (funny people in pictochat) and jammed out to AKB, SKE, and other random jpop and kpop in line during the time, eating some food along the way. It was as fun as sitting on your rear on concrete for six and a half hours could be. :)  Registration started on time and the line moved quite quickly. Again, great job AX!

We then went to ticketing which was just across the hall in the same area. They were trying to sort out the premier fan situation at the last second, and we learned later that the tickets that were supposed to be pre-printed weren't printed, and they were discussing what to do and trying to get them all printed with only one printer to work with. The line didn't move for over and hour and a half. What they ended up doing was letting everyone in the premier line go first, then the regular attendees. It worked... decently. There really weren't a lot of them there to collect tickets. Woohoo! The seats we got are decent. I looked online and found a diagram. Our seats are center and not too many rows back. Honestly, that's just perfect for me. I don't mind not being dead front, I was just worried about being next to one of the walls, so this is INSANELY awesome! We finally got out of there and had some dinner and now we're back at the hotel. w00t!

Also, the AKB48 meet and greet event was indeed a total raffle. No tickets were sold. They had a counter right next to the ticketing booths. You presented your badge, got a stamp on it, and then got to draw from a box. I did not win, nor did anyone else around me. I'm not going to bother ranting about it. It is what it is and I don't really blame anyone for it since it was AKB management's choice, but this system was REALLY bad. In the two hours I was there and watching I saw two or three people win, and when I drew only three people had one so far. I look forward to reading how it ended up playing out. There were a ton of AKB fans camping the area, approaching anyone who won with an offer to buy their ticket for an more than decent amount of money. Honestly I found it to be very sad. Random people winning while more than a majority of the fans got nothing. Oh well, that's what their management wanted to do. Best of luck to them, I'll just have to give the girls my best wishes in their little cards I got for them.

And finally, I uhhh.. dunno if I should write this, but apologies, I gotta. :P To the group up at front allowing people from their ... organization to cut regardless of when they showed up, shame on you. It's one thing to hold the line for one or two people, but a possible couple dozen? Seriously? I didn't get there early enough to see how many were there from the start, and I didn't see if someone told staff of their antics, but I saw them scan the line twice for their members and bring them back to the front with them. Sorry, that's just not right and irritates me. There's plenty of people there to see AKB48, Nakajima Megumi and May'N, SOPHIA, or any of the other artists and talent coming to the convention and they are just as deserving of their place in line as you. The nerve and gluttonous nature to think that you are the ONLY AKB48 fans in the universe is vile. This is not a whine, just a rant. I'm more than happy with my ticket because I earned it, and I didn't screw anyone behind me to get it.

Tomorrow is the concert and first autograph session. Let's see how it goes. At this point I'm not hopeful to a major extent on getting one, but I will be trying. :) I just wonder if they will sign our own items or give us all a stationary like they've done before. Hmmm...

sorry for the post..I'm at the Mayfair right now(because it has internet :D and I'm tired..too bad the slurpee I'm drinking isn't helping me)

OK..here goes.

Got to the expo around 12:15. Actually got a chance to hang out with some Stage 48 people(PLEASE if I'm offending anybody, let me know) and went to the front of the line. We talked for a good 2.5 hours before the doors open to get badges.

The worst part was getting tickets. Thanks to their stupidity, the AX people got the tickets mixed with regular and premier guests. It took a FRICKING HOUR AND A HALF to get the damn tickets. However, what compensated was trying to win the raffle for the meet and greet. After four tries, I was unsuccessful, but no bother.

Went to the JW Marriott to hang out and caught glimpses of the girls, even stalked Akimoto from three floors up :D

Now, HERE'S the best parts so far. After almost an hour, the girls came by and even a cameraman was filming the girls, they passed by at LEAST 5 feet in front of me. I went outside as the girls left and I was being filmed for the cameras! :w00t: A few minutes later, the girls were waiting for the crosslight to let them walk, I began to walk toward the girls and stopped. I didn't want to do anything to freak them out XD

However, about an hour or so later as I went on a Slurpee run, I saw the girls coming back on the same walkway they left earlier. That was my chance...

I took some snapshots of the girls before they walked away, they even waved at me before they left. One of the girls had their own camera as well and took shots. Also, I forgot to tell you, one of the members of SDN48 was there as well(sadly forgot her name).

Seeing them in front of me twice comletely made me whole year. Thank goodness I took off from work to pull this off. Those memories are staying with me permanently, even if I don't get an autograph from them. That one moment just turned me into an AKB fan for sure! :)

That's my report so far, going back to the Mariott to sleep(and get up around 6-7 AM for early line for Mano). Hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I have reliving it.

I know Jab would have been proud of me :)

Quick post, heading back to AX soon.

We skipped the red carpet because it was just too early and I bet there were a cluster of people there already. Went to opening ceremonies and got second row, just right of front and center. As we were waiting, I'm talking to my friend and suddenly my jaw drops and my heart sank down to my nuts. AKB48 walked right across the pit to get to where they needed to go. We started waving at them and Yuko spotted us and waved back with a smile. Rie also spotted us and had a HUGE smile on her face. Acchan also gave us a slightly nervous wave while Tomochin was next to her and looked at us like we were some science experiment. It was cute. The rest were clung together and didn't react much bu I also saw Moeno check us out. They were no more than ten feet away from us. Too awesome.

They were really cute introducing themselves. Sasshi looks VERY different than what I was expecting. They're all really fit looking and hawt. Maeda Ami has VERY poofy cheeks.

Anyway, more later. Gotta run. This trip is EPIIIIIIIC.

Now onto my review.

I can't really describe today. It was amazing, surreal, stunning? Anyone who knows me knows that I am not one to use these words. I'm not one to get swept up emotionally into this incredibly fun little hobby.

Today, it was different.

I wrote about what happened at opening ceremonies. Seeing them by surprise was pretty awesome. I wish I could clarify it, write out every last detail, but in reality it was what it was. They walked by, I waved, they waved back. I guess the excitement was all in the feeling of the moment. It was nice to get some semi-personal acknowledgment from them. I just hope Acchan didn't think we were ignoring her. She was hard to see in the middle behind Tomochin and we did wave at all of them. I love you too Acchan. But anyway, it was just a terrific, unexpected, AWESOME moment. Yuko and Rie are already awesome girls but they easily gained about 14 billion awesome points there.

The rest of the opening ceremonies were very routine. It was AWESOME to see May'N as I'm a huge huge fan of Macross Frontier. Nakajima Megumi was not there sadly. Was also cool to see Kenji Kamiyama, the director of another beloved anime of mine, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Also, Nabeshin is so funny.

After the opening ceremonies, I went back to eat some lunch. I had a burger(lol I'm so cultural in the big city  ) and my friend had some kabob and we got some bubble tea for the walk back to AX. We then went to the remainder of the May'N panel. I arrived a bit later than I wanted and was unable to get a question in. I really didn't have one, I just wanted to tell her how much I love Macross and that I was so in love with Macross Frontier, and how thrilled I was to see top talent like her and Megumi used for the franchise. Her panel was running long. And mostly, it was stupid questions like "Say this in Sheryl's voice!" I left because my friend wanted to go to a Nabeshin panel and I'm very glad we did. This guy is a total hoot. He was so hilarious and engaging to the audience. I've seen bits and piece of Excel Saga and enjoyed what I saw of Nerima Daikon Brothers. I'll definitely be getting into these shows and more after seeing this awesome guy.

After his panel ended, I walked around the Exhibit Hall to look for an AKB booth which turned out to not exist. :( Looks like I might be mailing my cards for them to Japan at this rate. Anyway, the hall was as it usually is on Day 1: Otaku City and crowded to the brink.  We skimmed all the halls. I saw a Sailor Mercury wall scroll that I really wanted until I saw it was 100 dollars. Sailor Moon is awesome, stop laughing. Anyway, we wedged our way around the manner-less people making a mess of the walkways and got out. We checked in our stuff at the bag check and proceeded to the concert. We were in row K, just a smidge to the right of a dead center view of the stage. The view was excellent. We weren't dead close but we were able to easily make out who was who. The concert started about 30 minutes "late", but when it started, everyone went into overdrive. RIVER was an awesome start. The crowd got way into it and it was just an amazing scene to be seeing AKB48 live. Aitakatta was also terrific. The song that got me into AKB48 done right in front of me? Shit yeah! I was also happy about it because I know the hand movements for this song since I've seen it done so many times. I fail at wotagei.

The first MC was fun. It was awesome to shout their names out. Sayaka also did an absolutely terrific job of running the English MC's. I wish I could write more but the details are escaping me right now. Really, all they did was introduce themselves. It was cute to see some of them struggle but have fun with it. :)

Then, the units came. Nothing short of a brilliant selection as far as my taste went. When Acchan, Akicha, and Reina came out in those Kuroi Tenshi outfits, I said "OHHH MYYYY GOOOOOOOD". Stunning to see. I was mesmerized by it to be honest. I tried really hard to get Akicha's attention and towards the end, I got it. Total fanboy moment. Awesome. Then, as if my mind wasn't blown enough, Moeno, Erena, and Tomochin come out in the Seifuku Resistance outfits. My friend flipped out a bit because she loves K6 as do I, and all I could say was "OHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD." Seeing this live... I have no words. I saw it and I can't describe it. It's awesome. Great dancing, a catchy song, it has everything and seeing it live only affirmed that twenty times over. Moeno really is a terrific performer, and Tomochin and Erepyon are no slouches either. Also, Erena's new hair is super cute. I love it and it works well for that song too. BIRD was also amazing. Sasshi looks so different in person. Her face has more of a.. mature look to it? Maybe she's just ultra tired. In any case, this song was also cool to see. Takamina is so awesome. Heart Gata Virus was cool. Finally, some Ami action. I tried to get her to notice me but didn't have a lot of luck. She's really great, I can see why they are pushing her.  Kojiharu and Mocchi are insanely hot chicks. I was really digging this one. Up next was no other than Blue Rose. Seeing this live was UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE. I tried to keep an eye on everyone, but I was STUCK on Sae. SHE. WAS. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT. HOT. ........... HOT!!! Sexiness aside, this was great to see. Team K 2nd Stage was my first AKB48 DVD purchase, so it really meant a lot. I did watch the others too some. They were all great. Sayaka was really into it. The mic stand kick was present and executed perfectly. :thumbup

They then did another MC which was pretty funny. They were saying where they wanted to go in LA. Sayaka wanted to go to the beach. Miichan wanted to go to Disneyland. Someone said they wanted to go to Universal Studios. They then started imitating characters and we had to guess what the hell they were doing. Miichan imitated Pooh... badly. Sae did Jaws and "ate" Sayaka. It was fun to see those two glomp each other. :fap That was so funny. Sayaka then did a really weird roar. People yelled out "Uhhhh, Godzilla?" Eventually, she said, "Yes yes, dinosaur... ehhh tou, no no no Jurassic Park!" Probably the funnest MC I've seen.

After that, they did Boku no Taiyou and an English version of BINGO!. I was so into BINGO! I didn't realize it was in English until a bit into it. It's one of my top songs, so seeing it here was amazing, English or not. They then did Oogoe Diamond which is fun. I knew a lot of the wotagei to that. :) Then, they did Sakura no Shiori which was just surreal. I was singing along with it. I love that song.

After that, it was encore call time. I've read that gideon123 of stage48 was the one to start it. They came out and did Namida Surprise which was a terrific performance. I'll get to it more at the end. Fun song for sure. After that, they did Pony Tail to Shu Shu which was a lot of fun. Everyone was VERY into it. And finally, they did their last song of the night, Hikoukigumo. Again, the whole audience was way into it and they did a terrific job all the way until the last second. We waved our goodbyes and headed out. I heard some people stayed for a second encore but it did not occur. I didn't expect it to. The rental times for the Nokia Theater are quit strict and they were already 7 minutes over their time when the show ended.

So, in summary, this concert couldn't have been better. The late start was kinda irritating but looking back on it, I think that was meant to be there.  Anyway, I see now why AKB48 has hit #1. Why they attract so many fans. Why they're a huge hit. Whey they are going nowhere but up in recent years. Obviously, I already loved them but now I see the catch of seeing them from Japan's perspective. The show they put on is nothing short of exemplary. From start to finish they are on fire. I've never seen anything like it. I can't really put a lot of it into words, but I am so thrilled I got to see this. It was worth whatever amount of money I end up spending on this adventure, and worth any amount of time it takes to recoup the funds. It was nothing short of incredible, amazing, cho sugoi, however you want to word it, it was the best thing I've ever seen.

To top it all off, I said I had one more thing I had to say about Namida Surprise. I enjoy this song but when it played today, towards the end I did get emotional. Not like baww baww crying or anything, but I just felt moved that all of this awesomness happened by fate, luck, scheduling, whatever... it all happened on my birthday. I don't think it gets any more awesome than that. :thumbup Thanks AKB48 and thanks Anime Expo. I'm really enjoying this trip.

I'm going to cut off here because I am dead tired. The only other thing to write about is the autograph session which is not much of a story. I didn't get in. Not much of anyone did. Started late and ended on time. I'd be surprised if 25 people got in. I was bummed to see more cutting by the same people. All I have to say on that is that I'm a big believe in karma, so best of luck to them. Anyway, that's all I have for you right now. I had to drink two Ramune's, orange juice, and some water to bring you this review. Later.

Hello guys~ updating.

AKB48 panel just ended. Not all the girls were there. Apparently half of them left this morning because of busy schedules and whatnot. The girls who attended the panel were:

Akimoto Sayaka
Kuramochi Asuka
Nito Moeno
Fujie Reina
Maeda Ami
Kitahara Rie
Takajo Aki
Sashihara Rino

Sasshi was so cute she yelled out stuff and was energetic. They showed some video clips and went straight to the Q&A. People got some decent questions in, but the more involved ones were mostly answered by one of their producers. Makino I think was his name? I'll need to compile all the videos I took of the questions, but I missed the first few lol.

AX people screwed over fans again, there were no autograph tickets handed out after the panel like everyone thought. tenkei is over at the line right now and he's saying it is disgusting. So it'll probably be the same girls at the panel and yesterday's autograph session. Kind of unfortunate, since most people thought the girls will rotate and today's session will have the other 8 that weren't at yesterday's session. So much for wishing Itano a happy birthday, lol.

well, here's my experience of the concert..I'm trying to remember everything, so bear with me.

Got to the Nokia theater around 3 and waited to get in. Actually got a ticket in the center of the row so I could watch all of the girls. I have to be honest, for a AKB newbie who didn't know any of the girls, much less any of the songs, this was one of the best concerts I've ever seen(course, I've been to very few concerts in my life).

The concert lasted a good two hours, with the songlist and the MC's. The more I listened, the more I became a fan of the girls already.(Course, around day zero, I listened to their songs on someone's iPod while in line for the doors to open up). After the show, all of us made a dash to the autograph session. I felt like I was running out of breath and near sick as I made it. Got a good place in line as we waited for another 15-20 minutes for them to show, only to realize they were in the autograh room after all tha time. When I went in, they were playing the 100 Setlist concert on the big screen.

First one I saw was Sayaka, she was so beautiful with her long hair. Then Asuka signed her with big hearts. :P Rie signed her with a Valentine with her name inside. Then, Aki signed hers. She stopped and looked at me and pointed at her chin. I think she was looking at mine. My first thought was almost like Charmy's chin or I had a chin like hers. I pointed at her chin and she pointed at mine saying, "Kawaii!Kawaii!Kawaii!" as I went to the next one.

The person in front of me was speaking Japanese to the girls and the staff was trying to get him away so I could have a chance to have my CD book signed. Reina signed a flower with hers, although I couldn't understand what she was saying to me amidst the talking and the big screen playing.

This next one really was a great moment. When I get to Rino, she saw my shirt and said, "Hangry and Angry? I love them!" That made my moment right there. We talked a little bit about them, even with Rika and Yossie. She signed it, even putting Hangry and Angry in kanji :) I think I like her already because of that. Then I got Ami to sign her autograph and left the hall.

I felt like I was completely walking on air that night. In fact, the memories of meeting them are still being played in my head, if even slower. I went to the Yoshiki charity even after that completely drained and nearly fallen asleep. However, not before I saw Yoshiki and Naoto before leaving. Too bad I missed Stan Lee, no worries though.

Next: Another autograph? Tenkei shoots my promo to the Hipsters and a girl that looks like...AI-CHAN!? Stay tuned :P

Thank you everyone for the nice comments and birthday wishes. Also thank you to everyone else who is contributing! I'll be sure to click the thank you buttons when I get back home. The internet here at the Wilshire Grand is ass and I'm having a hard time getting certain things to load. Also, I'm really sorry that I've had no pictures to share. They changed the policy for the opening ceremonies at the last minute so I left it at the hotel then, and every other event has allowed photography to press people only. No worries, boykun and tenkei have brought some of the absolute best photos of the events that I've seen. :thumbsup

Today was the last day of AKB48 activity here at the con. I headed off to the con in the morning and got there a bit before 10:00AM. Indeed, they are clearing out the Petree Hall between events. I was happy to see that because last year it was difficult to get a good seat with people camping the previous panel, sometimes even multiple ones. This made the playing field kinda fair. With the panel two and a half hours away we had some waiting to do. The line for the panel was already huge. I passed the time by listening to my iPod. Again, just like on the flight there, the damn thing kept picking SKE48 songs. We were waiting outside but again, under some shade. I seriously appreciate Anime Expo's efforts to try their best to keep us out of the sun this year. It's so awesome to come back to the hotel unburned. Boy am I getting a nice tan though.  The panel itself was awesome. It started off with some good news for me: they would be accepting gifts at the end of the panel, so they received my post cards from Texas. AWESOME!!! Then we got the usual warning about recording, etc. I was in the fifth or sixth row to the right of the walkway with the microphone. I was right in front of Sayaka, and she was SO cool. She waved back to everyone who waved at her throughout the panel and was all smiles. The panel started about ten minutes late, but it was still awesome. The questions were decent. They did a good job of scaring away people with personal or specific girl questions. The only exception was a Japanese woman from Germany who did not let the mic go. There were also a few questions that were not answered well or at all. Someone tried to ask a funny question, something like "Would you rather collaborate with Idoling again or do the pie game?" Their handler/manager took over and gave a speech about how they want to collaborate with other groups but there is no plans yet and they want to branch out. Everyone was pretty confused as to why it was handled that way, but I bet that members are not allowed to answer anything even remotely personal. The questions and answers were very typical but it was cool to see. I spent most of my time having a good look at all the members. Ange, I need lessons from you. Sayaka's been a major point gainer in this trip. She's always been pretty hawt to me, no doubt, but seeing in her in person, amplify it by a billion. She's just gorgeous, flawless, stunning, breath taking. I was genuinely in awe. In addition to that though, the real reason she gained major points with me was with how kind and caring of us she was. She was looking every second for ways to acknowledge us and give us a little fan service. MAJOR props! Rie was next to her. Her face is smaller than I expected but she's gorgeous and seemed really interested in us. Sasshi was nothing short of brilliant as well. She was SO interactive as people have said. She was constantly yelling out things to us and starting chaos. When someone mentioned Enkyori Poster, she started yelling "TEAM YJ! YJ! YAY!" I loved it. I also loved that she got the "What does being an idol mean to you?" Her answer of "I love cute idols too and I want everyone to love me" was awesome. Also, the panel was done so that every member got to answer a question. They simply went down the line as each question was asked unless the manager chose to answer it for them. Overall, it was a lot of fun. The panel ended with the MC guy announcing there would be no autograph tickets. A lot of people sighed at that. Some had been waiting there since early morning just for that. So, AKB left after much waving. I went to the front with my friend and gave the MC my gifts, thanking him profusely. I'm so thrilled they'll get my cards, you have no idea.

We then went off to the autograph session. We were a bit past the middle of the huge line. The same members at the panel were at the signing. Again, the signing started about 25 minutes late and ended on time. >_> I almost wonder if it was done on purpose since AKB48 doesn't really do signings much. They seemed very interested in stopping the bustling line multiple times for filming. In any case, we stayed in line for most of it. In the end, we got no autograph once again. Naturally I wanted one, but I am not disappointed one bit. It was still awesome. As we were in line, someone with a jphip sticker was filming, so I yelled out "jphip rules!" and it turned out to be tenkei. He talked to me for a bit and I gave a short message. So I guess if he uploads some video of a geeky looking, tired looking guy who's in total fanboy mode, that's me yo. :P He gave me a jphip sticker which I'll pimp for the rest of the con (or until it gives out  ). :thumbup After that, the line started moving VERY slowly. Eventually, we got to a curve close to the tables. We got an AMAZING view of Sayaka and Akicha. Again, Sayaka was nothing but great to us. When she had a free moment, she looked and waved right to me and others in the area. She was awesome. That was when I got a good look at her and her flawlessness. Akicha was next to her, and she's a royal stunner as well. Nice thighs and a pretty face.  :twothumbs Also got to see some of Reina, and a few glimpses of Ami. As we bailed out of the line, I caught some of Sasshi towards the front, and she seemed to be VERY interactive once again. So, while it was disappointing that I didn't get to get something signed or interact with them personally, I still consider the event a success for me. I got within five feet of them, had some interaction, and most importantly, had fun. Thanks girls. You're awesome.

And so ends the AKB48 events at Anime Expo. It's been a surreal experience to say the least. I hope I've been able to share some of the magic. The adventure isn't over though.

I bailed on the line at 1:10. It had 25 minutes left and there were dozens and dozens of people in front of me and I no longer had a good view. I was going to the Nakajima Megumi and May'N concert anyway. I had almost the exact same seats as I had at the AKB48 concert, so the view was excellent. May'N started off the show with a mix of her own singles and Macross Frontier music. It was fucking incredible. Nakajima Megumi came out after May'N's set for a duet of "What About my Star?" which was thrilling. I was VERY into the whole show. When Megumi started "Seikan Hikou", I went berserk. It was the best ever. Megumi did a few more songs then May'N came back out and they introduced the surprise guest. I was expecting to see Mari Iijima, the singer/seiyuu from the original Macross, but instead it was someone MUCH bigger: Yoko Kanno. YOKO FREAKIN' KANNO. I was in shock. As she started playing the piano and the singers sang their medley, I started crying. It was so moving to me. Kanno has done a lot of work on so many of my favorite anime, and I've been into Macross (via Robotech) for literally as long as I can remember, catching reruns when I was four. For my anime fandom, this was downright religious. It's something I'll never forget. Ever. The remainder of the concert was continued brilliance. I loved every second of it.

After the concert, my friend and I got some much needed food from the Quiznos booth. We also got bubble tea from another booth, but it was pretty terrible and took so long to get. After eating, I went to the exhibit hall and had a look around. I didn't see much in there that interested me, which I guess is really a blessing in disguise. Most stuff is way too expensive to even consider, but I did end up getting these...

Yay Mio plushie! Also had a fruitful visit to Hello Store USA as you can see. One booth had the Acchan photo book, so I went ahead and picked it up as well. Not sure of how much I'll buy. I'm saving my money for the charity auction in case there are any goodies there. After that, I got some Carl's Jr. and called it a night.

Anyway, this is pretty much the end of anything AKB related. I'll still provide some con reports if anything cool is seen but this is probably the last big entry. What a fucking ride it has been. I'm glad I was able to do it. This whole thing has been absolutely awesome. I'm tired, probably a little dehydrated, and exhausted from event after event, but it has all been so worth it. Everything was fun, thrilling, exciting, and very special. Thank you AKB48, thank you Anime Expo, and thank you LA. This has been awesome and I plan to enjoy the next two days all the same. AKB48 saikou! :jphip:

Also, I have some multimedia for you guys, but it'll have to wait until I have some time to edit it and find some good internets to upload it. It will be in the multimedia section when it's ready.

My heart skipped for a second!

Well, I'm glad you've had the experience to meet Sayaka in person, because people who are not very fond of her end up respecting her thanx to these kind of events. The Sayaka we see on TV is not even a 1% of the amazing person she actually is (in every sense).

I'm so happy you all guys had fun and specially that u were able to see Sayaka, the idol who actually loves all her fans! :yep:

Woohoo got my free ticket into the concert. Good seats too! I was on the left side, in the 7th row (row G). I was looking for booths that sells AKB CDs and only found 2. One from the Kinokuniya store which sold the imported cd for around $40 :shocked and Maru Music for the licensed version for $15. It's too bad there was not a dedicated booth for them. It was weird to see Morning Musume booth instead. The Nokia Theater and their panel were not full. There were plentiful room.

I just wrote a report, then quit firefox by accident. D'OH!

There's nothing to say about today that was AKB-related anyway. I just wrote about my day. Basically, I went to the con and got there at around 9:50. I waited to get in the exhibit hall which was still a circus. Dang, it just won't slow down! :shocked I bought a few random goodies. There is almost no AKB stuff left, just a few CD's here and there. I found the DVD's of the Space Battleship Yamato movies and bought them immediately. I also bough an AWESOME K-ON! towel, a School Rumble wall scroll, and some shirts. I've collected a LOT of shirts this year. I might wear one tomorrow for maximum geekness. :thumbup I went to Nakajima Megumi's panel which was a lot better than MayN's. People asked good questions! :) After that was over the con didn't have anything interesting to me going on so me and my friend went to Little Tokyo via bus. We got to see Chinatown as well. Quite a busy place it is! Lots of hotties around the area too. Little Tokyo was fun but I didn't find a lot to buy. I bought a I  LA shirt and and a tofu plushie. Also bought a Ranke Lee photo book and Halo Legends from the Kinokuya bookstore. The main reason for going was the food. I had chicken breast katsu and iced green tea with matcha powder. Best food EVER. Also had some green tea ice cream. I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would but I finished it just fine. :) After we finished there I went back to the con for some random exhibit hall musings and bought the second to last "Looking for a Japanese girlfriend" shirt that J-List had. I then tried to get into the Gurren Lagann screening but the line looped an entire corridor several times over, and when it didn't move for 40 minutes past the time the first movie was about to start, I bailed. Didn't wanna be there till midnight and beyond. That was my day pretty much.

Here's some of my swag:

Also, I found this on the hotel TV. I'm thinking about buying it tomorrow. God.

ok..back again at the Mayfair to write the rest of the report. May write a little more when I get home.

I told you earlier that Tenkei was filming me with the autos that I got from AKB earlier. Hope he has it up for you guys to see soon! Anyhoo, waited a good while for the girls until we got cut off. No bother though, since I already got them the night before. Hung out for the rest of the afternoon and such, waiting for the dance party that night. Met up with J-Triumf at Club Nokia and talked for a good while before heading out to the hotel for the dance party.

Next day, met up with a guy who does Blue Man Group show in Tokyo and we began to talk about Japanese artists going to America. He gave me his card and asked me to email him when I got home. Went to the arcade for a while and as I was waiting to play a game, I saw a girl beside me that almost looked like Ai Takahashi. I had to look a few times before seeing it wasn't her. Her hair was a little shorter than hers, but I just kept thinking, "What's she doing here?" XD Can't remember what else happened during the day except helping make a present(signatures) for AKB to give to the girls. Then, went to the party and saw DJ Kage(hope it's right, either way, hell of a show!) then stuck around for DJ Jinnai and DJ Amaya for a bit before turning myself home.

Today, not much else happened since it was last day. However, did get a chance to get my BENI signature I wanted the day earlier. Also, got May'n, MELL, SOPHIA for autographs as well. The best one has to be RSP for the fact  I saw them just before the AKB panel as I checked to see what time the booths opened up. As I was coming back, I saw them doing a video for something. I shouted "Hi1" and they said "Bye!" By the time I got to meet them, I told my story, to which the translated told the girls, they said "We're so sorry!" The translator said, next time, they'll say, "See you later!" They were really so nice. I may start listening to them now.

Also, went to the Hello!Shop booth as they were giving away a special prize. I won a Gaki-san metallic photo, however the guy I knew who had a green Risa Nine Smile shirt asked to trade it for a Reina metallic photo which I did. One of the main guys told me to trade, telling me "You might like Gaki-san, but Reina's better." He even showed me his personal copy of her Shojo R PB.

That's about it for right now. Gotta head back to the Mariott and sleep before getting on the shuttle at 4AM for my 7AM flight, it's the only one they had. :P More to report tomorrow.

Well, Anime Expo is completely over! Man, what a fucking ride.

I showed up after 10AM pimping my "Looking for a Japanese girlfriend" shirt, an AKB48 sticker in the middle, and my jphip sticker above it. Day 4 was almost dead except for the Exhibit Hall. I went in and did some last minute shopping but didn't find much of interest, which was probably a good thing. I ended up buying a slightly expensive K-ON! Azunyan shirt. After me and my friend got out of there, we got some lunch then went to the charity auction. It's always fun to watch. Some things got really expensive but that was a good thing. All of the proceeds went to the Children's Hospital of Orange County. There were two AKB48 items there. One was a CD and one was a signed Anime Expo program guide. Pictures of the items were not allowed there, so sorry. Not sure who won the CD, but some loser up front with glasses, one of those weeaboo shirts, an AKB sticker, and some upside down heart sticker won the AX guide.

The CD was the first of the two to be sold. It took a while because people asked for it to be opened and see the signatures. The bidding war on it was fierce. I thought I was willing to go the distance on it. Some random guy who didn't know who they were bidded 25, I bumped the ante up to 100. I stayed in the bidding war until my final bid of $425. Once it got to the point where you could buy several top girl signed photos on Yahoo auction, I had enough. It ended up selling for $550. :panic: Several items later they threw the program on and it was less desirable because it wasn't really merchandise and was only signed by the girls who did the panel(Sasshi, Moeno, Asuka, Rie, Ami, Sayaka, Reina, Akicha). The bidding war on it didn't last long. Someone was trying to best me, but I won it at $150. I'm thrilled. And also, the sigs look WAY better than in the photo. The money went to a terrific cause and I got my autographs. Double-win there. :) I also won a Gundam mini-puzzle that Nabeshin donated from his personal collection. It's cute! The rest of the auction was nuts. Some things I wrote down of note that went for lots of money were:

Bleach animation production cel signed - $675
Black Lagoon autograph and sketch - $2200
Big winner of the night - Cowboy Bebop sketch and autograph - $4600

It was an awesome auction, although much shorter than last year. After it was done I took a walk around the center one more time before heading back. We had to give up our front row seats to VIP's and press but still had a decent view. The closing ceremonies were pretty cool. We were allowed to film and non-flash photograph this time and a lot of guests were there including Nabeshin, Nakajima Megumi and May'N, SOPHIA, and many others. They were also screening Pumpkin Scissors while we were waiting, which seems like an interesting anime. And with that, Anime Expo was over. I took the shuttle back, had some iHop for dinner, and here I am at the hotel.

So yeah. Wow. What an insane ride. I loved every second of it. Anime Expo 2010 was a MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAJOR improvement over 2009 for the most part con-wise. Also, seeing AKB48 was downright magic. I'm so happy that I got to go. I probably won't have the money to do  this again next year, Anime Expo or otherwise, but wow, I'm just so thrilled I got to see all this. I didn't think I could be a bigger AKB48 fan, but I am. It was just... amazing, all of it.

Also, as for that "multimedia" I said was coming, it still is, but it'll have to wait till I'm back home. The internet at wilshire drops a lot so I can't upload it, nor have I had the time to clean it up and fix it anyway, so... keep an eye out in the next few days. Also, dai has said I can post my reports in the news thread, so be looking forward to that with some cleanup and additions after I relisten to a few things and revise from my notes. This is probably my last post from LA, so... it's been real. Thanks AX, thanks AKB48, I love you all!

Also, ckd, I'm glad you got a shit ton of AKB exposure. :thumbup Now you have a good foundation for diving into the group further. :)

Anyway, I gotta get to packing. Hope people have enjoyed my ramblings. Mata ne~ AKB, LA, AX daisuki!

Alright, guess I've waited long enough, so here's my report of AX. I'll write the concert report later for news.jphip.com though lol

Went on Wednesday to pick up press pass with boy. We weren't lucky enough to be granted an interview slot with AKB though, so we didn't really hang around. Asked them about our press concert tickets and they told us we have to come back in the morning, aight w/e.

Thursday got up bright and early (fuck you, 5:30AM) to get down to LA for the red carpet event. Got there with about 5 minutes to spare. Was kind of worried that we wouldn't get a decent spot since almost everyone else was already there, but they had this little section cordoned off because it was reserved for some press hotshot. Luckily they didn't take up the whole area so we just slid in right next to them, right in front of the red carpet start. Took pics of everyone, check them out on my facebook. Once everything there was done, I ran over to the press booth (literally RAN) so I could grab our AKB tickets. Met up with this writer from Rolling Stone who we kind of talked to the day before and went on in. Press booth guys told us they changed the time of the ticket hand out since it was unfair that we would have to miss opening ceremony. Got kind of uppity with them, but there was nothing they could do. Had to come back at 11:30. We asked if we could put our names down on a list or something, since we came at the first announced time and didn't know of the change, but they said no and to just come back at 11:30. Pff.

Hiked back over to Nokia Theatre and got a spot on the press floor for opening ceremony. Took pics/videos, had fun. Thought this girl behind us was Saki Aibu, but we were wrong lol. We were supposed to leave early to head over to Club Nokia to check out the Mano Erina thing, but we decided to stay the whole thing. So we ran out when everything was done and headed over to Club Nokia, about 45 minutes late. Ran into CKD in line and talked to him a bit, then headed back downstairs to get our press stuff. The girl had to call down Chase Wang himself to come get us, so he took us inside and seemed a little miffed that we were late lol. We went in and found Slack chillin, he told us we hadn't missed anything despite being so late. We took a few pics, a little video then jammed out. We left the rest to Slack since we had a lot on our plate for the day.

After we left Club Nokia we went back to the Press Booth to get our tickets. When we got there, we found out there was a sign-up sheet for the tickets and there were already about 40 names on it. I went apeshit on the staff since I had been there earlier that morning and even asked for a sign-up list or w/e. The guy was actually pretty helpful and told me he'd hook me up with tickets since shit was all fucked up (as usually is at AX). So we waited around for about 10 minutes that finally got our tickets, hurrah. After, we went to go check out the Press Room to recharge all our stuff since everything's batteries were dying. We hung out in the Press Room a bit then hit the exhibit floor to find some AKB swag and to film some non-AKB stuff (which we never really got around to doing). We found the kino booth and bought some autograph signboards cus the singles were expensive and they wouldn't sell us the posters they had.

After walking around the exhibit hall for a bit, we went over to Nokia Plaza to grab some lunch and watch RSP's outdoor concert. Ate at ESPNZone with a good a view of the stage. Only caught about a third of the show before we went back into LACC to catch the screening of Saki Aibu's movie Koisuru Napolitan. They announced that Saki Aibu wasn't even at the con yet, but would be by the end of the movie, so we were pretty disappointed. They also told us no pictures allowed since Saki is really strict about how her photo is taken lol. We watched about 20-30 mins of the movie before we left (the movie was pretty bad, from what I saw). We took off and headed back to Nokia Theatre for the AKB concert, which was pretty fuckawesome.

After the concert, we took off to get in line for autographs. When we got there, there was already a long ass line, so I grabbed a spot for us while boykun went back to the Press Room to update and unload all our pics/vids. I stood in line and talked to some guys behind me who were pretty cool. We pretty much knew there was no way we were getting in. We waited for as long as we could before they were about to close the door, then just ran into the room as press.

As press we were allowed to basically get right up next to them and take as many pictures as we wanted, which if you were just an attendee was impossible. So we got to hang out in the room with AKB for about 30 minutes while everyone was getting their stuff signed and just took a fuckton of pictures. At one point I got down on one knee and had my camera angled up to get a shot of Sayaka's face as she was signing something. A staff member grabbed me really hard on the shoulder and yanked me back and when I looked up at him like 'wtfbro?!' he started immediately apologizing. Later on I walked past him and he apologized again and told me he thought I was trying to take up-skirt pictures under the table...lol.

I was pretty upset that the staff/security were so strict. There were times when the girls were just sitting there waiting for the next person and I wish I would've tried to talk to them more or get a handshake. I just didn't want staff/security to get on my case and kick me out or something. I caught Sayaka and Mocchi acting like dorks and doing sentai poses and stuff. When they saw I had noticed, they got all embarrassed and I asked them to pose again and Sayaka was like 'fffuuuuuuuuuuuuu you saw that?'.

After they finally kicked us out cus AKB was leaving, we met up with fen who had been waiting for us for hours and got some food. We dropped fen off at her hotel and just went home cus we were so tired. We were supposed to go cover the Yoshiki Foundation opening, but we couldn't bring ourselves to get over there.

Friday we weren't actually planning to go back, but we decided to attend the panel and try for autographs again. Went to the panel and got our press on again, all hanging out on the floor at the front taking pictures and video lol. Before hand, saw Arashiro Beni in the hallway, said hi and told her she looked good. The guys I had talked to the previous day were there again and we chatted with them a little more. AKB came down the hallway while I was still outside so I pulled a hallway hello on Sayaka like I did with Eri last year. She turned and waved and said hello, so I was jazzed. Went inside to where boy was saving seats and got ready to take pics. Panel went pretty well, look for boykun's report on it later.

They didnt hand out tickets to the autograph session like they were supposed to, so it was all kinds of chaos at the line. Boy went to the press room to charge stuff and I went to check out the line. Got there and it was already so long that I didn't even try. Found out they were letting press go through the line first to take pictures and stuff, so I jumped in and got pictures all up front. Akicha wouldn't look up for me for some reason, but Sayaka posed for me. After I took pics, boy came down and took some video and we went around the exhibit hall again. After a little walking around we ended our AX adventure and went home early. There wasn't really anything else to see for us, so we were happy to be done.

Might I trouble one of our Japanese skilled members for a summary or translation of this? From what I'm gathering through google and rikaichan it sounds like it might be an interesting read. Thanks in advance.

AKB48空席だらけのロス公演!初センター大島「まだまだだなあ」

AKB48's Los Angeles Concert Riddled With Empty Seats! Front-Center (girl) Oshima says "We've got a long way to go.."

Los Angeles, July 1st (July 2nd in Japan). Idol group "AKB48" was invited to an anime convention, Anime Expo 2010, going to their 5th live concert abroad.

会場のノキア・シアターは約7000人を収容するが、集まったファンは約3000人。
The Nokia Theater is able to accomidate approximately 7000 people, however only approximately 3000 fans attended.

日本で行う大規模なコンサートでは、チケットが即日完売となる人気だが、海外では厳しい現実があらわになった。

In Japan, large, their live concert tickets are sold out the same day, but overseas, the harsh reality was evident.

悔しさをにじませるメンバーは「いつか(空席を)埋めたい」と気持ちを新たにした。
The AKB members felt vexed again thinking back to the feelings they had, "Someday, we want to fill up all these seats!"

 ライブ最後の曲となった「ひこうき雲」。
Their last song was "hikoukikumo".

ステージの一番端に駆け上がった大島優子(21)は懸命にタオルを振った。
Oshima Yuko (21) ran up the to the very front edge of the stage swinging her towel in hand with all her might.

「座っている人ばかりだったので、盛り上げようと思ってアピールしまくりました。
Because there were only people sitting, I thought of livening them up by pumping up my appeal/with as much energy as I could muster (?? shimakurimashita? difficult to translate...).

こういう気持ちにさせられたのは久しぶりだったので、うれしかったですね。
It's been a long time since I had felt this way (to need to do this), so I was happy.
(In Japan, fans need no prompting, so it can be a bit 'dull' not having to do anything to liven up a crowd.)

(自分たちは)まだまだだなあと。かなり刺激になりました」
We thought, "We've still got a long way to go. Really was a great incentive/motivation/stimulus (for us to try harder)."

 AKB48としては北京、パリ、ニューヨーク、仏カンヌに続き5度目の海外公演。
For AKB48, this was their 5th overseas peformance following performances in Beijing, Paris, New York, and Cannes.

日本では人気絶頂のアイドルグループも、海外での認知度はまだまだだった。
While they're at the height of popularity in Japan, their recognition abroad still has a ways to go.

会場となったのは、ロスのダウンタウンにあるノキア・シアター。
The performance was at the Nokia Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.

昨年、米歌手マイケル・ジャクソンさん(享年50歳)のドキュメント映画「THIS IS IT」のワールドプレミアも行われた名門ホールだ。
Last year, the world premiere of the documentary movie, This is It, of American singer, Michael Jackson (50) was also held at this prestigeous hall.

 昨年のパリ、ニューヨーク公演では会場をほぼ満席にしたが、この日は約7000人収容に対してファンは約3000人。

Last year's Paris and New York performances were almost fully packed (full concerts/full house), but in sharp contrast to the 7000 person capacity (of Nokia Theater), today's concert (in LA) had only 3000 fans (show up).

厳しい現実を目の当たりにして、メンバーらの脳裏によぎったのは、2005年12月の初公演。観客7人からの船出だった。
The stark reality was right in front of their eyes, and memories of days past from their first performance in December 2005, when they embarked on their careers with only 7 fans (in appearance), entered/crossed their (AKB's) minds.

高橋みなみ(19)は「悔しい時を知っているからこそ、(空席を)埋めたいという気持ちはありました」と前を向いた。
Takahashi Minami (19) said "Knowing the vexing feeling from back then well, I had the same feeling of wanting to pack/fill those (empty) seats!", something she had aimed for.

 それでも、オープニングセレモニー前にレッドカーペットを歩いた際は、アニメ声優やクリエイターらを制し、この日一番の声援を浴びた。
Still/nevertheless, on this day before the Opening Ceremony, they were showered with the most cheering while walking the red carpet, more so than that given to the other anime voice actors and creators present.

ライブでは、メンバー全員が英語で自己紹介。
During the live concert, everyone introduced themselves using English.

全15曲のうち、「大声ダイヤモンド」など2曲を英語バージョンで披露した。
Among the 15 songs performed, Oogoe Diamond was one of two performed in English.

 最近、講師とのマンツーマンで英会話の勉強を始めた前田敦子(18)は「言葉の壁は大きいなと思う。もっと語学を。まず言葉です」。
Nowadays, Maeda (18), who has begun studying English language one-on-one with a a visiting instructor, said "The language barrier is really big/great/large, I think. I'll need to study more. First, words...(I'll have to learn more words/vocabulary, first.)"

 6月の総選挙で1位になって以降、センターに立つ大島は「みんな集中力が足りないと思う。日頃から鍛えていかないといけない」と厳しい言葉を口にした。
After being picked as the #1 AKB48 girl in June's AKB48's General Election, the top/center/#1 Oshima said/mentioned in harsh words "Everyone's concentration level hasn't been enough, I think. Everyone needs to train more than usual/harder/more."

 ライブ後に行われた関係者との打ち上げ。
After the live concert took place, those involved with the concert got together to wind up the trip with a celebration. (ie. get together for a meal, talk, group celebration amongst themselves, their staff and managers)

秋元才加(21)はこう締めくくった。「今日はシアター(AKB48劇場)での初期の頃を思い出した。これからは『海外でも会いに行けるアイドル』になれるよう、頑張っていきたい」
Akimoto Sayaka (21) concluded by saying, "Today is similar to what I remember the early days of our own AKB48 Theater (in Tokyo) was like. From now on, I want to try our best to become 'idols even abroad'."

tenkei had a good talk with her about what press can and can't do at the AKB48 concert, lol.

Also thanks for the translations. I was talking to a friend of a friend, Japanese dude, and he was saying that AKB48 was kind of disappointed by the number of attendees at their concert. I was kind of surprised to see so many empty seats when I was at the back recording video.

Speaking of video I've posted a few that I took and edited. Check the news forum/page if you haven't yet.
