Yes.. all the Street Fighter nerds gather..
Playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 makes me think back when I was in middle school and how I was the only girl who kicked ass with Ken.. Good ol' days..
My sis came back from the San Diego Comic-Con the other day, and she was sporting Udon Street Fighter comics! Luckily she doesn't like Street Fighter, so I yanked em' from her... Anyone know em'?

The last street fighter game I played was Street Fighter 2: Turbo... Damn those were fun times. I used to love being E-Honda and just hundred handed slapping the shit out of everything.

oh hells yes! a SF thread!!! i've played every Street Fighter (the fighting ones not the puzzles and whatnots) or at least i think i have. i'm currently getting the UDON comics not sure if they're in english or not. damn if i hadn't have left my copy of Street Fighter Alpha at my cousin's i'd rip it :(

In the Udon Street Fighter comic, the writers take quite a few jabs at Ryu's aloofness. In that comic, he is unable to use the Internet, and when Ken gets him an e-mail address, he chooses boringryu@capcommunications.com with the password kenrulz for him. When Ken and Eliza shoot their wedding pictures with him as the best man, Ryu forgets to put on his shoes.

Super Street Fighters 2 Turbo is still my all time favorite fighting game. I wonder if we could play SF2 online. I got roms of all SNES SF games. I just gotta find my old controller and I'm ready to kick ass!

Oh shit. Super Turbo ftmwmf. I used to play a lot when I was younger, but I quit cause I got tired of losing to my brother. Then two years ago, I got into playing fighting games seriously, but quit a few months ago. Now, I play a little, but I'm not cutthroat or anything. In SF2, I mostly just use Chun-Li, sometimes Guile and Dee Jay. In Alpha 3, I like Adon, Rolento, and Sodom.

The fighting game that started it all. I used to play a lot of it after school. SF2 Turbo was my fave too, since it was the first one where the bosses were playable and there was a code in the SNES where you can increase the speed to 10 stars but the best one for me was SFA2. Initially, I used to use Guile but I practiced with the shotokan fighters and they were quite enjoayble to play with.
Those comics look awesome meowchi! I remember seeing some of those in one of the comic stores here. The Akuma one is badass!

I didn't play SF2 Turbo much, but I played the Alpha series a lot. not so much now though
Alpha 3, I started using V-Charlie, and for casual play Sagat, Akuma, Rolento, Guy
anyone play 3rd Strike? I didn't really keep up when SF3 came out, but I got into it after watching the Daigo Umehara beast comeback match at Evolution 2004 :lol:

I only started playing 3S a few months ago. I could never find anyone I liked. I used to use Alex, but now it's Elena. (Healing ftw:razz:) I haven't played in a while though, so I'd probably be droppin combos left and right.

well said, i just stick to cps-1 capcom classics collection, and sfa3 max. i rarely play my anthology now due to school though. i can sneak in psp games XD

o_O wtf. last I heard of him was at the Evo 2k4 match. after that comeback against Justin Wong at 3rd Strike he went on to the finals but lost against the Japanese Yun player, K.O. he lost to the same guy the previous year at Evo 2k3 at the finals. maybe he's tired of it :lol:

Yeah, after that, a lot of people were saying that they hadn't been seeing him around as much. Then a couple of people at SRK had logs of when they went to Japan. They said they only saw him a few times at his usual locations. Then a few said he had gotten obsessed with Mah Jonng, then started workin at a parlor and makin lots of money. After that, I think even players in Japan said they hadn't seen him around. This was around the time I was getting out of fighting games, so I stopped following. Maybe he did just get tired of it though. I did :lol: I don't think he even played in SBO this year.

No... But It is the prequal to UDon's Street fighter in a since... but if i hear the story of Street fighter 2 again I'll scream "Meowchi!!!!!!" so i just picked up snk vs capcom graphic novel instead... I'll just wait it out for a newer release.. or pick up a summer special or something.

i only read like half of the first book. it starts off in the middle of a kyo fight and it has some translations errors that are ROFL It makes the characters sound like transexuals sometimes. LOL. but there's some good story in it involving bison. i can't say how good are bad it is though cause i havne't finished the first book though. i'lll read some more this weekend.

I used to play GG. I entered in a few tournies, but I quit back in June. I don't have enough motivation to playe the game everyday, and learn every little thing about my character. Also, my style was aggressive enough, I hate the constant "knockdown -> oki -> block string -> guessing game, repeat" stuff. The only person I know who plays lives over an hour away from me, so I haven't even touched the game since the last tourney I played in.

nah i don't think there's anymore after 14. tried looking to see if he's going to make anymore but all i kept getting him visiting San Diego and other places in the states. guess it was a good ending since that was like a chapter of the street fighter story, i guess like all the way up to before street fighter alpha.

he definately has his obvious weeknesses... he's just so famous for them. but on certain games its not that bad. he's tourney material. ex. Street fighter alpha 2.

Pretty much all the characters in Super Turbo are tourney worthy, Cammy's the only one I don't see often(I think I may have aseen a few matches with her though) I've seen some some guys who are beastly with Gief. I have a DVD of a ST tourney with some top Japanese players(Daigo, OtoChun, AniKen, Muteki, and some others). I can upload some of the matches and combo vids if you guys wanna see some high level ST.

I used to really want to play Cammy, but I didn't like her as much. Her normals seemed so bad to me. I could never get in on people. I kinda like to play more defensively, but still like to be aggressive sometimes, and I felt the most comfortable doing that with Chun and Guile, later be be just Chun.

I loved Street Fighter II and SF II Turbo on the SNES.
More recently, Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival on the GBA is an incredible game - Akuma bugs notwithstanding.
I was always best with Ryu and Ken (like everyone else) but I had a pretty respectable Chun-Li and Blanca too.
Never really liked the Alpha Series as much though.

those aren't bugs :) even the cpu abuses teh "bugs" :)
on second thought they are bugs. but bugs are about welcome in street fighter, but not to the point where the game becomes total crap like. Street Fighter... i forgot the name of that crappy game capcom made and is almost proud of... the sucky one with darkstalkers in it and characters are horribly unbalanced. and feels like a mugen with nes sprites.

it capcom fighting evolution. one of the worst games i have ever played in my life. O_O not even better than the original street fighter. not saying the original its bad, but with the technology i dont think it even topped the first game.

Yeah, Akuma is just broken. I cant think of too many bugs in ST, well, none that really seem to break the game. I remember in Play magazine some dude said that CFE was one of the best and most balnced fighting games ever. Even fans of the mag were like, "Are you crazy?"

I have a couple of versions. One is just DBZ characters, about 250 of them, and the other is a mix of characters from pretty much everything ranging from beavis and butthead, sonic, mortal kombat, streetfighter, marvel, and a load more. I think that version has just over 100 characters.
I haven't really played them that much though. It seems cool with lots of characters but some of them seem to suck like super sonic for example only has about 3 or 4 moves and that's including his standard attacks.

so many characters... i may take the time to make it into seperate games for more balance... like put the super jump characters in their own game and keep the ground fighters seperate.. and also put all the goofy characters like metal slug sonic.. in their own game. as well if i find it necessary. or change the "bosses" up if there are any.

I used to SF like crazy, me and a friend.
I'd go to his place and we'd get SF:Alpha3 going, and play for most of the day.
We'd play other games, also, but it tended to be Alpha3 mainly.
Those were fun days, but I haven't played SF in so damn long, that saying I'd be "rusty" would be a vast understatement.
Too bad I lost touch with my friend, otherwise I'd still be playing.

I'm not that great at the pure SF titles (although I do ok with Cammy). I much better at Marvel vs Capcom 2 - Team up Cammy and Morrgian with the master marvel super vilian = Pimp-daddy Magneto!
But that game is just fun. Not as serious as the other SF titles.
The artwork in those SF comics is so kick ass. Master-godai, here in the forums, has a nice collection of those. I should borrow them...i think all i read was the Cammy one. Oh the one about Morrigan.

It's not bloody likely to hear a "Street Fighter 4" coming out... 2-D fighters are seemingly going the way of the dinosaur. The only 2-D fighter I can think of that's pretty popular is Melty Blood.

I loved Street Fighter 2. I've since been lured away by Tekken and Soul Calibur, but Street Fighter still has a special place in my heart.
Oddly, I'm mostly interested in SF for nostolgia, so the idea of new SF games doesn't appeal. I'm not really interested in anything post Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

I saw quite a few tournament matches for it for a while, but I kinda quit the competitive fighting thing a while ago. It seemed to be going good for a while, but hell, the Hokuto no Ken game seemed to be going good for a while.:P

Technically it IS possible to have a SF Tourney, zSnes has netplay
(even though it's not as good as arcade netplay it'd work for the most people :))
Also Street Fighter 3rd Strike is my fav. game of all time :D

I'm pretty sure you can play on MAME, and if you can, then it'd be better since we'd have the arcade version. I think I'll look into. It might suck for me though. Back when I was playing Melty Blood online with a friend of mine, we always had horrible lag. It may not be that bad for SF since it's not that fast anyway.:P

A friend I knew had MAME,, and got a connector for his arcade stick that he used with his playstation, so he could plug it in to his comp and use it for fighting games.

That's what I do too. I got a USB-to-PS2 controller adapter hooked up to my arcade stick. It's nice playing on PC because I can set the stick on my computer desk instead of on my lap like when I play on console.

wow thats kind of how i played with bison on super street fighter 2 turbo... use the medium punch as a dragon punch substitute :O and cool looking at a tutorial after you learned this stuff out the hard way lol. his terminology is different from myne, but i know whats saying though.

Midwest Challenge in IL is coming up this President's Day weekend. There will be Super Turbo, but I doubt I'll enter because I barely play ST, but maybe I'll start with some casuals while I'm there. I'm going for Guilty Gear, so I'll probably try to play the as much as possible so I can loosen up a bit.

Its confirmed (from the gt trailer) that its being made by an internal group in Capcom Japan. Some guy named Ono or something. He was the one who did Shadow of Rome and Onimusha Dawn of Dreams.
Also when asked if its 2d or 3d, the guy said to look closely at the trailer and you'll see the direction its going at.

Numbers are supposed to be impressive, right? Well, it's been 10 years, two hardware generations, and about seventeen thousand rumors since the last pure number Street Fighter came around. And today we have the first ever official details on Street Fighter IV.
We don't blame you if your eyes have already skipped down to the screenshot lower on the page (yes, that's from the game engine). Take your time. But we've got some information as well, so the rest of this is probably worth reading when you get a chance.
Though the screenshot doesn't answer this question outright, we can confirm that the game's graphics are polygonal but the gameplay is strictly 2D. There will be new moves, locations, and gameplay features, while the standard six button control scheme remains. And then there's the issue of what platform(s) the game will end up on, which at this point Capcom is keeping close to its chest (if you search 1UP's database, you'll find listings for arcade, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, but those are just guesses based on the graphical quality).

It looks really promising. It seems that they're keeping the gameplay that made the series great. It's definitely going to appeal to people like me that grew up on SFII.
Graphically it's not that demanding. Hopefully we'll see a Wii version.

LOl... the way I told the story line was suppose to be is ..
Street Fighter 1 , Then the Alpha Series, Then SF 2 ( and Super Sf2 included), Then SF4, then SF 3.
The way it seems the story-line by adding Sakura/Gen/and Rose seems pretty interesting. I would have been more psyched to see Yun or Yang, but I guess it's much to early for that...
When I get this on Ps3 I'm gonna be looking for net challengers from here. :)

I watched some SF4 videos for the first time and now I kind of feel like playing it. It almosts makes me want to start playing competitively again. The games were fun, but I miss just going to the tournaments and hanging out with people more.

Piracy is a crime. But it's always on-demand. I've tried to get my friends over to play this in over a week, I've been soloing offline coz i dare not plug my cable in and this game is fucking TOUGH. I thought I was decent in SF but it sure turns out I suck donkey balls. I need to practice!

espcially the final boss, when you beat him first time, he kills you in the next round..it basically took me thirty-fourty tries to finally beat him..

^ Yep! To me it's kind of annoying with such scripted AI. Especially since getting to him isn't _that_ difficult regardless of what (not extremely tough) difficulty you play on. Also I've noticed that Zangief seems extremely unbalanced to the other characters. At least when the CPU plays him.
Do like the new French Ju-jitsu guy tho. He got some neat specials and cool looking finishes. The other new characters are kinda like meh. Both the wrestler and the girl felt not as spectacular as the rest of the set. The fatty however has some cool shit and seems like a solid character to play.
I just need to figure out to unlock all the characters. I've only unlocked 2 or 3 thus far.

Actually I don't think it's SO hard anymore, I struggled the first time through and ended up using 28 continues to beat Seth with Chun-Li, but I tried again with Ryu and I only lost a couple times so it's do-able I think, you just have to get used to it :)

Seth is hard at first, but he tends to have a pattern depending on how far or close you are to him. The best distance is maybe half the screen/jumping distance, cuz he just throws sonic booms or does his long arms. Just have to jump in and combo. But you can't stay in too close too long cuz he'll fuck you up with a piledriver or his ex kick move.
Game is pretty tight, i like it. I unlocked everyone except Seth. The grapplers seem overpowered, like Gief and Abel. It seems like throws got so much priority now, and the CPU spams it hard.
The new characters are kinda crappy. Capcom needs new designers =P I wish there were more new characters, cuz there's only 6 out of the 25.
In the end, the game is super awesome, but at times it feels like Super Mega Ultra Street Fighter 2 Alpha Plus: The New Challengers.

Lol u guys did it the hard way.... U know u could just set it to easiest level... 1 round. That's all I did to unlock all the characters... Another trick, is to Ex cancel after doing like a shoryuken or C. Vipers ex slam and go into the revenge moves. I'm kinda sad that they gave Ryu a sorry hadoken as his revenge instead of his Shoryuken... they gave it to Gouken. El fruete + Rufus = token wasters. The new revamped Fei long is good although i miss the original half circle kick move... forgot wat it's called Oh well.

Yeahh I don't see why they couldn't have a super art selection in this game since most revenge moves are just superer versions of the super move, they could of had Ryu had his shinshoryuken instead of Gouken that way. (that kinda bugs me, because I played Ryu that way in 3)
Well, there's an achievement on 360 for completing the game on medium or harder with all characters (as well as one for beating the game with all characters) so I might as well kill 2 birds with one stone and do it that way, haha.
I really struggle when I fight a good Rufus player, it's so hard to know exactly what he's doing, especially when he's rolling around and stuff, haha.

How is everyone doing with the Championship Mode? I think it's really cool and fun.. PLUS there's NO disconnectors because you can get a disconnect ratio now, haha it's pretty great.
Also the points system can be confusing at first so if you got confused like me...
GP = these points are like BP in ranked mode except that you can't lose any and they build up a lot slower (even if you lose you get a point)
CP = when you're in a championship you'll get CP equal to the opponents you beat along the way, and it builds up as a score for each championship, but when it's over, win or lose the CP score goes back to 0.
Also, when you win a championship (really it's a small winning streak) if you set a high CP score you're allowed to upload a replay, which you can view on the leaderboards and save to your HD if you want to. (You can watch your friends replays too) then you can watch them in the gallery later.

I was planning on buying SF4 for PS3 this week, but while searching through some stuff, I found out in a thread saying that since the last update of the playstation the game has so much lag that it's almost impossible to play.
I'm not playing online only, but I confess that it would take most of my time because most my friends suck at fighting games.
Any words on the lag ? Is it this bad ?

its more like the connection bars are more unreliable. i can play with someone with 1 bar and no lag at all. or a slight one but perfectly stable. occasionally i can play with someone with 3+ bars and get disconnected. Thats the main problem for me. Definately not impossible. the thing is this happens often enough to notice. its not like its unplayable. This is still more playable and easier to get a game going, than when Kaillera was popular. So its all good.

Oh dear. I'm actually glad I don't play against you guys, cause I tried SFII HD Remix and I really suck at it! My ass gets handed to me online. Though to be fair, the 360 controller just sucks . I liked Cammie the best as her moves are quite easy to pull off.

Just bought SF4 for the PC today since steam was selling it for 75% off. Got an XBOX 360 controller for the PC, so it's all good. Ideally, I'd like to have one of those fight sticks, but they're so damn expensive for a controller. Trying to learn Guile's moves since he's always been my favorite character in the series.
Here's my first time playing the game, and first time using the XBOX 360 controller, training the different flash kick moves. It's really painful to do charge moves precisely on the 360 controller. I switched over to Ryu just to see how hard it is to do his stuff and it's much easier. But I must master Guile! :pimp:

I gave up going wave motion characters using it when all I got was EX-Dragonpunch over and over instead of ultras :doh:

Yeah I'm starting to get the hang of it after enough repetition. Seems like a really easy game to learn, but a really difficult one to master. I love games like that though :love:

Man I'm really enjoying the new Ultras for everyone. All I can say is awesome I can actually use an Ultra with El Fuerte I hate taking too many risks with Flying Giga Buster. I'm liking Dee Jay and Cody and I'll probably go with them when the game comes out. Which Ultra do you guys like the most?

Just got my M.Bison pad today after my stick's malfunctioning was getting too annoying to even play with it anymore.
And OH MY GOD I'm finally winning decently! I can finally relax, and enjoy this game instead of being stressed!! and even compete using other characters, very happy about this :)
I just hope the story about the new models lasting longer was true, lol.

Well they're super cheap now so it's still cheaper to buy another than replace my stick, maybe I could collect them all like pokemon, lol. I have a backup plan if it breaks anyways, PS2 Saturn pad & converter :D

How much did your pad cost ya? I seen the new pads and I like the designs that Bison one you got is pretty freaking sweet. I had a Blanka one which I wanted but it broke and now I have a Chun Li one.

I'm with Pika on this one it's something new and interesting. Plus when I first saw his vs pic I instantly thought Wario lol. His moveset is bizarre which is fine with me since I like weird characters and it's better than having more Haduken characters that's for sure.

I just got back from the SSF4 thing! game seems really cool, but I was getting really bored, haha.
Not because of the game, but I only had a few quick shots then had to switch out for someone else to play, and was standing around for SO long just watching others play, then the really disorginised tournament started and all the stations were taken for the tourney, so I had to stand there for another hour, and there was so much forfiets and calling peoples names endlessly just for people not to show up and it just wasn't that much fun to stand there and watch, especially when I'd seen so much footage online already.
I missed the first tourney sign up, but it was new characters only, so, yeah no-one really knew how to play anyone and was just doing whatever, lol so I wasn't really wanting to enter the second one, especially because of the loooooooong wait to even get past the first bracket of the tourney, so i gave up and went home, lol.
So my impressions from my brief play is that, Adon is really easy to pick up and play, but seems really short, lol. DeeJay feels way slower than in previous games, like kind of floaty? I guess. I had a good 2 matches with a good Rose player (with a Rose custom TE stick) Honda seems just like before but I couldn't pull off the new ultra on the Rose player, Bison's new Ultra is awesome.
I could go back I guess, it's still on all night... but it's not a big deal lol

Man I really feel like I should get into Super Street Fighter IV. But I feel that it would be impossible without an arcade stick. I can play VF5 ok, but I really struggled to do well with Street Fighter II Turbo on the 360 joypad. Do you guys play on arcade sticks?

I play using a fight stick though I'm sadden that my 360 stick no longer works 100%. But as I can't play fighters or rather I refuse to play em on pads. I'm getting a new fight stick once mine is out of commission.
I got to play SSFIV early on a ps3 pad and yeah despite losing 9 times in a row. I freaking love the game and I can't wait to get mine in a couple of hours.

First day playing it. Got my arse kicked of course.
I saw a lot of players using the new characters really well online.
Juri seems to be a new favourite that pops up every few games. I also saw someone use both Guy and Cody in a godly fashion too.
Didn't see Hakan all night though. :roll:
Hope they added support for future downloadable characters. I want Evil Ryu to come back some day. :twisted:

I don't know how to perform special in this kind of games.
Everytime I try to perform the special move.
I always end up in normal punck or kick instead the special move.
Like jumping normal puch instead shoryuken .

Just practice in training mode or do some trials!
the easiest way is to just do them over and over in training mode~
for hadoken do a smooth motion moving from down to forward or dragon punch.
If you're still strugging why not try a charge character like Honda, Chun-Li, Blanka, Bison, etc..
you just have to hold away for 2 seconds then press forward & punch/kick :)

Man, I'm so jealous, I was thinking about getting the Special Edition but since my previous case of SE came to a little disappointment I went for the normal edition. ( It was with BlazBlue, which I liked but ended up not playing much and didn't use much the extras that came along the SE)

Since my game will take a while to arrive I decided to play SF4 on PC, just to warm up. Man, do I suck.
My execution is horrible, timing, mix up. Pretty much everything sucks.
I'm trying to pull out one Ryu combo: Shoryuken, mp+mk, hold mp+mk, forward, forward, release mp+mk, Ultra (on easy terms, Shoryuken, cancel, and Ultra)
I've seen lots of Ryu matches when good players use it. Looks easy enough ... or so I though.
I tried for about 20 min and only got it right once. Started on the 360 controller, but is was impossible, so after plugging in the PS2 things were much better.
I've got a looooot of training to do.

Forget about the HD Remix, Asmodai, aside from a nince skin, it doesn't add much.
I personally can't see myself playing this game, because the gameplay of the ones after that are so much better, including all spin offs and Versus series.
Instead get SSF4 and play online withthe H!P community :D

FINALLY getting close to getting the all C rank achievment, playing Abel right now, and I only have Abel to Guy in the middle row to finish, and 3 of those are characters I actually play and Sagat. So I might be on easy street now, lol.

Seth was one of the hardest ever cause of his low health, even Makoto was easier to get it with, haha.
T.Hawk is a good character, but it was hard with him too, I swear people online HATE him, and would do anything to insult you, win or lose, I had to make my account private again while levelling him, lol.
Oh and I got C rank with Balrog in like 10 minutes, lol, I didn't even have to spam jab once!
just HK or HP, and a move once in a while = instant win. I see why so many people play him, far too easy.

I should've used T Hawk for the 10 wins achievement I have yet to lose with him lol. Though I got it with Makoto but idk I can't seem to use Viper or Seth online so I won't bother with that achievement hell some are just a few mins and you get that C rank while others are freaking annoying to even get a win with.

lol im maining seth now, hes actually a really good character to use but his HP is reallly really crappy. Ultra 1 is pretty good too but I think they nerfed his ulti damage.

I liked Ultra 2 way more because of the vaccuum and it kills anyone in the air, ultra 1 is pretty weak despite how easy it is to connect with it lol

Seth has always been a good character just a matter if you can use him or not. Same goes with like virtually anyone.

By checking the post office site it's already in my country (Brazil) but it's still in analyzes weather there are going to be taxes to pay or not and to boost Thursday was a holiday which makes everything here works even slower. ^ I was thinking about it, because as I play better each time, and try to stay away from the "newb" restrains it gets harder to play with a pad, but these madcatz sticks are way too much expensive.
Maybe if by December I don't buy any other single game, I'll get one.
Off the record, on Soul Calibur series I've been playing like a pro (or almost) for a long time, but in the SF series, I've been playing like a new ever since. I was good enough to beat the crap of my friends but never cared to train much and all. Especially now that the only ones that really played with me regardless of winning or losing are living in really far cities. But duo to online I can at least have some challange, even if I have to fight against lag most of the time :D

PSN for that game sucks it takes way too long to get into another match while xbl only takes a few seconds to save the replay and get you back to the menu to quick search. I need more training so like pika if you see me ask away and I'll fight ya.

Soul Calibur was easy on it, you should try Tekken 6, it's simply unplayable!

I thought of trying Makoto but she's way harder than she looks. She walks slow but dashes super fast and I simply can't dash cancel some of her moves
Juri wasn't that easy either but somehow it was a little more manageable for me.

Makoto is beast if you can use her properly and believe her not her stand on the ground shoryuken of hers is very useful. It's all about the mind games with her. At least when I use her. My main problem is when I face really aggressive players cause I tend to give them the same taste on how they're playing and I fuck up with Makoto but I'm getting there.
Lately I been using Adon and Rufus more. But as far as new characters I use Makoto, Adon, and Dudley a lot.

The mad catz fightpad is pretty good still, mine isn't broken and I've had it since the beginning of the year, don't shell out on a stick if you're just starting out, you will hate it, and suck, badly, for at least a few weeks until you get used to it.
I used to play in the arcades for years and it was still really difficult for me to get good with it, then it broke :lol:

So I caved in, I now own SSFIV. I take it Ryu is the beginner's choice? I tried Hakan earlier but trying to do 2 rotations on the 360 controller push pushing all 3 kick buttons for the Ultra is rather..:o :o I'll stick with Ryu for now, and set Arcade to easy mode to get to grips with the game. Really liking it so far though!

Ok what the hell? Tried out some of Ryu's trials and I tried doing something like Jump High Punch to Standing High Kick to Shoryuken combo and I can pull off a Shoryuken no problem, I can do a Jumping High Punch or High Kick into Shoryuken no problem, but I can't get those three to link together even when going any type of Shoryuken. :o And I'm not even going to bother with the likes of jumping kick into EX Hadoken into EX Shoryuken into FADC into Metsu Hadoken :dizzy:

ken is also a good beginner character. one of his easier move is i think the heavy kick into ultra 2.

Don't worry too much about the trials Tuffty, a lot of them you wouldn't even use in a real match! They're just there because they're possible, lol.
Since you're just starting out, just learn some simple stuff like linking normal moves into special moves or specials into supers/ultras, Ryu can link his lp dragon punch on the opponents jumping in to super fireball or ultra fireball, it's cheap but effective!
Or if you pick metsu shoryuken, if someone jumps in... just do it! will hit most of the time.

I guess so pika. I imagine if you keep trying to pull off that one combo just for the sake of doing it, you're going to be very predictable for your opponent. Will hit the training stage later and do just as you said. :D I found a great little series of tutorial videos on the basics of SFIV . I think it better explains the mechanics of the game then the manual does on stuff like focus attacks, hyperarmor etc:

Ok so I went against my word and played a few matches on Xbox Live. Around 10 matches in all and I got severely beaten. Every. Single. Time. Even against those on a D grade like me. Last battle against Chun-Li and she kept on spamming the same low heavy kick against me, I couldn't find any way to defend against it. This was one of my worries about the game, that I could never just get into the online aspect. I realise I've only had the game less than a day and I can only improve as time goes on (I wish) but yeh....christ am I disappointed in myself :thumbdown:

I'm pretty sure you know.
You can go to the replay section which keeps all your previous matches. Try watching 1 or 2 of them. And check out what errors caused the most damage to your meter (e.g. not blocking high attacks right, or off-timing buttons, or failing to dodge/block opponent's ultra).
Course, getting the feel back for using special moves at will won't hurt. Finish normal story mode with Ryu and Ken and you should be ready. :yossi:

Took a break from SSFIV today to play some 3rd Strike. I honestly never played 3rd strike...or rather long enough to know anything about any of the characters. Thankfully I wanted to try out Makoto and see how she differs. I'm rather annoyed cause 3rd strike Makoto is 100x better. I wish she was as easy to use in 3 than she is in 4.

Ah I see! I thought the grade was on the player's skill, not for individual characters. That's good to know. I'm split between Ryu and Ken now for my main. Both have similar moves so it's not a huge deal when it comes to using either one. winner made a great suggestion in watching back replays, think I'll watch other players who use Ryu as their main to see their tactics.

one of the main error most new players make are the wake up shoryukens. they work sometimes, but if you kept doign it over and over, your opponents will know it. its fairly predictable.

Yeah, the PP points are what shows the player's skill, since it's really hard to maintain, haha.
Although some people complain about the system (like me, lol) because after a bad losing streak their points can go WAY down. like for example, I had just under 3000PP then got dragged under to 1500PP and am now struggling to hold onto the 2400PP or so I have now, lol
I would only play on endless (player) matches for now if you're playing online, or even play through arcade to familiarise yourself with the game, or people's moves, see which character you like playing as the best, etc.
You could even play endless with me or meow or DHG sometime, we could help you learn by showing you stuff that online players tend to do and we wouldn't just beat you up in 10 seconds so you don't learn anything, lol. Or you could watch us play, something like that.

I DID IT! I WON MY FIRST FUCKING ONLINE FIGHT!!
:w00t: It wasn't a ranked battle so my stats are still the same but fuck it, I won! I honestly suspected this day wouldn't come. It's a stepping stone at the very least, a nice confirmation that my training so far has paid off and that I can do better still if I just keep at it. My sessions now is about 70% training, 30% arcade and like 1 or 2 matches online if I have the time. Met this really nice Ryu player as well, he saw I had 0 PP & BP and I eventually lost, yet he sent me a message to say I fought well and would be willing to fight again if I would have liked. I asked if I could have a rematch and we had a few more fights which I've saved the replays for and will watch later to see what combos he does with Ryu and when to use them.

Ok maybe you guys can give me advice on this but when I was trying Ryu's trials again and there's a few there that goes like Jump H Punch -> Stand L Punch -> Stand L Punch -> Stand H Punch. Now that makes it seem like it's possible and yet whenever I throw the second L punch lands, it puts me out of range so that my H punch can't connect :banghead: I've tried putting the H punch button in quicker but it won't come out at all. I suppose it's all down to timing, I guess what I'm struggling with at the moment is just having to input everything so quickly.
Also, DHG and meowchi are beasts at this game, something I was painfully aware of this afternoon :bleed eyes: I want rematches! and lose them all :D

Thanks for the advice meow. I saw one and it was comforting to see that even the player struggled to get the timing right. But then, I'm following with what pika said, I'm not going to focus too much on the trials.
An Arcade edition of SSFIV is in the works apparently, and any additions made could result in a patch if there's enough feedback (which there will be):
Capcom is currently working away at an arcade version of Super Street Fighter IV. What does this mean to you, the gamer whose local arcade long since went the way of the local video store?
It turns out that Capcom is planning on doing more than just port the game over to arcade cabinets. They're also looking into making balance adjustments to bring the game up to the level gamers demand for competitive arcade play. It's possible that the the changes could go beyond balance adjustments and extend into additional characters, costumes and moves.
Producer Yoshinori Ono revealed all this in an interview in this week's Famitsu. He actually didn't say that the arcade version could end up with new characters and costumes. However, when asked by Famitsu about the possibility, he let out a revealing "Wa ha ha" laugh.
For those who don't have access to an arcade, Ono had some exciting news. Depending on fan feedback, said Ono, the changes implemented for the arcade version could end up being offered to home players via a patch.
Whether that patch would be free or not depends on the content. Said Ono, "If it's a tuning update similar to the June 15 update, I believe we'd be able to offer it for free. However, if it's the kind of update that adds new moves, it's possible that it could be paid."
Ono also had some news for those expecting Capcom to go the Street Fighter II route and make a Super Street Fighter IV Turbo. "For me, the IV series ends with Super SFIV," said the producer.
Bring on SFV! But first, bring us the arcade version of Super SFIV, along with a home version patch to make sure everyone is on the same playing field.
Ono wouldn't commit to a release time frame for the arcade version. He acknowledged that there are online rumors right now about an October release, but said that his staff wants to take the time required to make a product that satisfies everyone.

I personally think the comparison is there because he's seen as the best player in the US, possibly in the West (certainly none as popular) whereas Daigo is without a doubt the best in Japan and the East, and IMO, the world. And like you say meowchi, he shows dignity and respect for whoever he fights against and whoever he uses. Can't say the same about Wong.
I like how at the end of each fight Daigo just picks up his man bag, offers a handshake and then he's on his way. He's like Ryu, always travelling to fight the next competitor lol

SFIV Developer to unveil new game at Comic-Con
Yoshinori Ono, the producer of Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV, will reveal his new game at San Diego Comic-Con next week.
"I am going to be at Comic-Con in San Diego on Saturday 24th of July!" Ono revealed in a tweet.
He later said: "I finally hope to reveal a bit about what I've been relentlessly working on lately."
Ono set online tongues wagging when he revealed via Twitter that Capcom big cheese Keiji Inafune had green-lit his next game.
He tweeted: "Super SF4 on sale!! SuperSF4 is nothing compared to what's coming!!"
Fans have speculated that the game is a Darkstalkers reboot. However, one game Ono has denied he's working on is Capcom vs. SNK 3. "Personally, I hope for it. But I don't have time. Will anyone make it? :D RT @GhostpilotZ: @ Yoshi_OnoChin How about a Capcom vs SNK 3?" he said, once again, via Twitter.

Just started watching the matches as I wasn't much home this weekend (plus I was watching the World Cup finals). Great matches, and Daigo is still the supreme ruler of this "sport" called Street Fighter.
My main is Chun but everytime I see him play I feel like using Ryu as well, I mean I did use him a bit in Vanilla (the little I played).

I met a scrub for the very first time today. Playing as El Fuerte and I got his health down past halfway when the guy just kept spamming the same dash into a jumping body slam move over and over and over again. I could see it was a cross over attack so I tried blocking in the direction it was going to hit but to no avail. Even tried blocking both directions but no, still kept getting hit. :bleed eyes: Anyway I managed to escape, just as the last attack was going to hit me and I wailed a combo on him, made a throw which got him into a corner and then pummelled him something fierce and won the round and actually won the match as he set it to be 1 round only. The funniest thing is, he could have literally done a light punch, with me blocking and still have won that match, that's how low my health was :lol:
Also met my first rage quitter too, against a Sagat character ranked C+. I honestly don't see how though as he kept jumping and jumping and jumping which I easily counterattacked with shoryuken every time. Won the round convincingly, if I do say so myself, and he made another jump which I countered before he quit lol.

Anyone ever reached a point where you know you're doing everything better than before, but feel there's a plateau you still just can't reach?
That's me. I don't know why I keep going online when I'm clearly not up to scratch. :nervous For some reason I can pull off combos leading into Supers and Ultras in training and arcade on medium. Hell I can finish arcade on medium without going to a continue but when I go online I look like the ultimate scrub and can't link combos, and can't connect with moves. I'm positive it's a mental thing, I do feel the pressure a little when I want to close a round, and I just don't pull off the special moves that I can do effectively in training. I think I've improved my defensive game a lot though, normally my opposition would find it really easy to land combos but I learnt that defense is just as important as offense in this.
Think I won't play as many online games for the time being, I just end up getting so frustrated in myself and certain players using cheap moves to secure the win. I know I need to play more games, especially training on counter attacking effectively after seeing certain special moves being performed. I can see in my minds eye how to do it too but in practice. :smhid
I dunno, I just feel like I've done enough to actually win a good number of games I participate in. Perhaps the community out there is just too elite for me that I could not hope to compete. I'm sure I'll feel different tomorrow, usually do, but for now it just feels that way. Still fun to play though. :)

found your problem right there. When it comes to fighting games, playing 'local' is always a good place to train. Get some friends (pref who are equally on your level or better) and practice with them. I can't quite explain it myself, but it is different, because you can talk to your opponent directly and get input/feedback/insight on your level of play.
if you keep on "choking" on matches, then simply relax... I'd say don't aim on trying to land combos, and just focus on doing damage... if you mess up a string/combo starter, DO NOT attempt it again and again in a match, it will just throw you off, and you will become readable like an open book. If you're trying to close a match, don't hurry, the timer is your friend. If it is a very close round, and both of you are just 1 tick away from a KO, dont get stressed :D
in a fairly balanced game like SF (4 or otherwise), there's no such thing as a 'cheap', there's are effective and not-so effective... don't feel bad about spamming tigers or srks, its your opp's problem if they can't handle them. case in point, "Flowchart Ken", people sure love to complain about it a while back, but it has died down, because they learned the game, and they've gotten around it, and stopped losing to it.
So when you see an akuma online, showering you hadous, dont get frustrated, its not his fault that that's the only way he knows how to play the game. But it is your fault for not trying to figure out an exploit :P (hint: akuma has shit health)
don't lose hope.. go to training mode... learn every normal, look at distance and range, take note of the difference between a short tatsu and a roundhouse tatsu, etc... even better, know the record input function of the training mode? use that, like, have ken do 10 srk's in a row, and try out which 'counter's work best on every situation (distance, jump, etc..)
but my best advice is to just have fun. we may never be the next top 8's in Evo/SBO/etc, but at least enjoy trying to.
then again, what do i know :V i've been playing SF/Fighting games non-stop since i was in gradeschool, and i still suck

Cheers ronin! :D I am under no illusions whatsoever as to ever hope to compete in EVO, it's just I like to think I can hold my own against friends or online competition otherwise the purchase for me is rather redundant. At the moment it's just not working out that way. I think the best thing to do is just be a good sport about it, and people have been willing to offer rematches, often playing as Ryu to see how their approach works and I can use the replays to watch later.
El Fuerte's a great character! XD Was playing as him earlier in Arcade mode and he's a pretty good character. Similar inputs for his specials and ultras as Ryu so easy to just get into. Have to remember that his lack in projectile attacks is made up for with his Hyperarmour when doing his EX Dash. Right now my focus is winning with Ryu, and using other characters sparingly in Trial mode before hitting the arcade on Easy if I get bored. Who knows, maybe that way I'll find a new main character for me that way.

We've been told the flyer is the work of Capcom's arcade division, which acts independently from other divisions.
But there's nothing stopping Capcom patching new characters into the home console version at some point, and, of course, making them available for a fee.
Super Street Fighter 4 arcade location tests start this weekend in Japan, apparently, so we should know if any new characters are in the works soon.

I saw DHG in the Replay Channel. He was playing as Makoto and fighting Juri. He lost the first round but came back big time to get a Perfect in the 2nd round. The offense he put on Juri was something else. And then he went on to win the match. :D
Earlier I was playing against someone who I met on SFIV a while back. Decent bloke, was kind enough to offer rematches and we were on the same skill level. Well I was the host of an endless battle lobby and I just, oh baby, I destroyed him. XD In about 9 matches, I won 8, and I even fucked around with Chun-Li and Fei Long and still won. Well he backed out, sent him a message saying gg and what have you when I got an invite back from him. This time he was the host of the lobby, which I considered rather funny, thinking maybe he thought I won those matches cause of me being host. Anyway, 1 fight, me as Ryu, he was Juri and it went to the 2nd round and he was backed into a corner and just spamming away at Juri projectile attacks which I was either blocking or jumping over. Well I found my opportunity and jumped in with the HK into HP into EX Tatsumaki into the Metsu Hadoken and won that match. Dude immediately quit the game when we went out into the lobby. Never got a reply to my previous message or anything. Why do I get the feeling I won't hear from him again? XD
And in other news, I got up to C rank with Ryu :thumbsup I'm definately in a better position than I was even a week ago. Now I'm linking combos together and defending more effectively. Still mostly losing games though XD But I don't actually mind so much anymore. I only care when I lose to freaking cheap tactics. Like earlier, I was in the final round with an Ibuki player, hit her with the Ultra, just needed a few more hits, but then she lands a neckbreaker on me and knocks me down. Then follows it up with another one as I'm getting up. And does it again. And again to win the match. Ridiculous. How do you counter that shit? Shoryuken as I'm getting up?

So a couple of days ago I was practicing with some other characters and fucking around with their trial modes when I attempted Dudley's. Before I knew it, in one sitting I completed 23/24 of the trial challenges. As usual they got difficult towards the end but the only one that beat me was the only combo that involves using FADC. So I came back today, and tried it again and again and I was getting as far as doing the FADC but falling at the last hurdle. I was either cancelling the special move but not dashing out and inputting the Ultra command in time, or I was executing the Special move instead (which funny enough is much more damaging than executing the Ultra, Dudley's special is so anti-air it's unreal) So I was determined it wasn't going to let it beat me, and sure enough, I managed to do it!
So if anyone is maybe struggling trying to get that achievement where you clear one character's trial and you're a casual player like me using the 360 controller, I'd definately recommend sticking with Dudley's. I've played about with maybe 10 other characters and he's been by far the easiest to do as it doesn't require quite as much input at such a fast pace that seems only possible on the arcade stick. :) One thing I wish you do in Trial mode is being able to see the button input like you do for training. Would have helped. :nervous

Wow, this right here is probably the best fight I've seen and it's a cruel reminder why I dislike playing against Dhalsim. Not whining about it, cause I know it's a different play style that focuses on zoning and defense, and Dhalsim can be pretty screwed if you get in close and apply the pressure, but for someone like me who can't get in close because the Dhalsim player is just too good at zoning me out and defending should I get close, then it's pretty tough to beat. Anyways, do watch the fight, it's mentally exhausting to watch but it's a showcase of two top-tier players at their best with plenty of :shocked: moments

Also don't feel bad, even Dhalsim gives Daigo trouble as you can see! and of course me too, I barely even beat good Dhal players most of the time :lol:
Dhalsim is mostly a poking character because he has a low number of actual combos, but he can link Ultra=>Super etc and has fantastic zoning and can even break through your guard by forcing you to block high on a fireball, then hitting you low, or Ultra,, etc, or doing a crossup on block with air yoga teleport & jumping punch, stuff like that.
He requires a lot of patience to play as though, and I'm very impatient, suck at zoning so he's a total mismatch for me to play as, lol.

I gotta learn to stop practicising with new characters in Ranked matches. Started off the day with 800PP and now down to around 500 after trying out Guy and Chun Li :nervous Gotta do my homework on any new characters, I look like the worst fucking scrub when I take them online.

It goes pretty well until he keeps me away with fireballs and HK, which is the biggest pain in the ass to deal with as Honda, haha
I can see I jump in waaaay too much, but I've got to get in for that damage I guess, I should of really held back and let him get bored of zoning me but I'm very impatient and not Daigo-like at all, haha so it bites me in the ass.
You can see the problems I have with the Ultra too, like if I was any other character at that same point doing.. e.g Nightmare Booster or Ken or Ryu's uppercut Ultras, I would of connected, but Honda's keep missing constantly and it screws me a lot, it's very hard to connect with that thing.

My word I am so crap at this game! XD I've lost so many matches today it's intense. What annoyed me the most was that I was playing Fei Long against a Guile player who just kept crouching, punishing me with a flash kick whenever I jumped in, and I couldn't break through his defense on the ground and he counter attacked when appropriate. And then just in general, players I should be putting away but not. I'm gonna take a break from online play for a while, just in general I'm playing the same ol Akuma players, Zangiefs, Kens, rage quitters and just my general shitiness at the game which isn't helping.

Ahh again don't worry too much Tuff, I mean you are probably playing on ranked right? even I hate playing on that crapstain of a mode (I've quit pretty much), with everyone using the cheapest, most boringest tactics possible to win, more or less resulting in it feeling like you're playing the exact same Ryu or Guile or whoever over and over and over.
The most frustrating thing, like the tactics you mentioned is, that you know it's really dumb, really lame, lazy tactics that you should be able to beat, but they work on you! it happens to me too, yesterday in fact a bunch of times.
One main reason I think that does happen, is it limits your options. If someone is doing, for example repetitive effective zoning constantly on you, you probably have only one thing you can do, and it forces your hand. Even if you get past it, they will jump/teleport to the other side of the screen and continue to do it over and over, so you end up being forced to play repetitively to beat them, and any deviation from that, results in a fireball to the face.
Over the years that's been a major annoyance to me, as I'm not a fan of playing repetitively and don't like to play cheap (in fact I kind of suck at playing cheap, haha) I know I should probably just suck it up and just beat them however I have to, but when it's repetitive like that I just get bored and don't really want to play their game, lol.
One thing you can do for turtle players, is just, force them out of their corner, they started this BS, so just stay in your corner with a life lead and jump over their spam and win by time if you have to if they really just won't give up.
It may feel cheap, but again, they started it and made the fight this way, and the chances are, they do it so much, they suck at close range, so when they eventually attack, beat the shit out of them and get an even higher life lead.

That's good advice actually. It's just more difficult when you're playing as a character with no projectile attacks like Fei Long and the other player has a life lead on you and retreats into the corner and is happy to stay there. I wonder if Fei Long's chicken wing attack can hit a crouched player like an overhead attack. Must try that out in practice. Though I seem to have this problem of actually pulling out the chicken wing in general, just has to be so precise otherwise you do a jump or his --> + H Kick attack.
Reason why I mainly play ranked mode is that it's the only way I can find players at my skill level. There's been a number of endless battles I've joined where the other players PP is in the 2000-3000 range that I just think, this won't be fun for me, I'm not gonna give them the satisfaction of beating a noob like me XD

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure now (they took it out for whatever reason) but Fei's EX chicken wing in SF4 used to always go over fireballs, but now I think it requires more timing now and you have to be closer, but certainly all versions of it are overheads, so they will connect with turtlers. (you can combo after each normal version too, but I don't know any of them, haha)
As for executing it, yeah it's a hard motion, but try to end it with UP so you know for sure you've gone all the way around to up-right, that's another trick to use with charge moves/supers/ultras so you don't accidentally do something else.
Also Fei's f+mk is an excellent overhead also, and mk is a crossup in the air, an easy combo I know & use is j.mk, c.mp or mp, 3x rekka/EX rekka OR Super. you can even go straight from mk into 3 x rekka if you wish, or a combo starting with light punch or kick from it, very versatile.
A similar one is j.HK,HP, 3xRekka/EX/Super
Well if you do want lots of matches, it is much easier to get them in ranked I agree with you, also, to be fair, a lot of people will play in that manner in endless too, so maybe it does pay to get used to these tactics so you don't lose, but as I was saying earlier, I have the tendancy to just not want to go through with it, haha. I probably need more practice myself because I'm still weak against it, especially as lots of my characters have no projectiles, like you were saying about Fei.

The combo I'm trying to nail down is to go from his chicken wing into a HP into his 3x Rekkas, but whenever I try it in practice, the HP is always blocked, and trying to input it any earlier doesn't come out. Can't find the sweet spot. The good thing about Fei is that it's really easy to link from a MP or MK into his Super. The one thing I don't like is his first Ultra doesn't juggle properly. Characters like Sagat or Guy can juggle opponents in mid air with their ultras and even run the complete finishing animation. With Fei, you only ever get about 2 hits from his ultra that actually keeps them in the air so it does very little for the damage input. Best bet for me right now is to just use his focus attack, which has great range and speed btw, and then land it. There's a great combo video actually that sold me on Fei Long. Best thing about this vid is the choice of music, Marshall Law's stage theme from Tekken 3! :rockon:

Tried out a few other characters in practice, Crimson Viper was ok, don't think I'll use her much though. Some of those setups into her second Ultra are rather hard. Cammy's cool, as is Rose. Hakan's decent, different playstyle from what I'm used to. His second Ultra is just so effective at anti-air. Even crumbling an opponent can make it land :o Gen is just useless to me. You just can't make him work with a 360 controller. He requires switching stances mid combo and different combo inputs in each stance.. no. It's really only effective by someone with an arcade stick and a lot of time and practice that can make the best use out of him.

Haha yeah that's really unfair about Fei's ultra, especially as it's so damn hard to land without a FA, AND most of the time a FA crumple will not give you the entire Ultra, who knows why. His second Ultra WILL counter Ultras if you're fast enough, it just has the downside of all armor break moves will beat it.
Yeah, Crimson Viper and Gen are very difficult characters to use, if you're dedicated I'm sure you'd do well as not many people know the Gen match up for one thing, but again, since you're just starting, simple characters are probably the best bet, haha. Hakan isn't hard to use exactly, but he is a hard work character for sure, you can be shut down very easily with very simple tactics.

The exact same thing happened to me just now, actually, it was worse! 12-0 to some Finnish guy, and I got thrashed. Not just thrashed, TOTALLY THRASHED. I couldn't even move, or do any of my usual stuff at all, he was just shutting down everything I had with every single character I played as. And he only went his main character like 3 times, he was getting near perfect straight wins with DAN and MAKOTO or other characters it's obvious he never plays as, I must of won about 3 or 4 rounds in the entire 12 matches. The last match was a desperate attempt by me to win with my Honda, completely and utterly destroyed by his 123BP Cody, like he wasn't even really trying at all, all the pathetic hits I got in were just to stop him perfecting me, it was really that bad.
Now I feel like shit now obviously, and think I'm the worst player on the planet to get swatted away like nothing , but that's not true! I just have to try harder and not give up :D

Unless I'm losing to cheap tactics I never get bummed about losing. My friend who plays at a pro level and knows a lot of professional players he destroys me on a daily basis. Me and Mugen played online this morning on PSN, good matches, too bad we have some lag.
I was solely using Chun Li while Mugen used a lot of characters. It was about 18 matches I think.
So Mugen, how far do we need to reach Daigo ? :lol: Better if we don't know...

@Mugen: Same here, I've been watching a lot of matches of pro players but not actually playing. I think I'll try to get a stick since my japanese teacher is going to the USA next month.
Unless I'm losing to cheap tactics I never get bummed about losing. My friend who plays at a pro level and knows a lot of professional players he destroys me on a daily basis. I'm like you, I don't mind losing at all, as long as the person is a better player. Doesn't matter if it's a kid, girl, etc. Since in SF4 we don't have infinites I really don't care how they play it, as long as it's efficient.
I'd just like to point out that cheap tactics are only cheap in my view if it's an infinite or a complete bug of the game but if the person does the same thing over and over and you keep falling for it, it's not their fault.
Me, I'd rather lose all the time to good and great players than win against bad players. When you eventually beat them you feel like you have some potential to do better.

haha man I feel good. Went into a team battle lobby with 2 other people and rather than wait for another player cause of fairness, they both teamed up against me. I was Fei Long first against an Akuma player and he was nothing special. I was going to be casual about it but I realised the host set it to one round so I realised that he could land an ultra on me and protect his life lead, so I just decided to extend on mine and go all out. Anyway, crouched in the corner, I dash forward and crouch and he does his ultra II, and the kick goes sailing over my head, and I give a gentle punch to win the game XD Next was a Ken player and I was Ryu, and I won! Dashed back from a focus attack cause I predicted he would do a wake up shoryuken, and I was right, jumped up into a medium punch and landed it with the ultra ftw. Bet they felt silly at the end thinking they would win XD
Is that what people mean by SF boosters? Setting ranked matches and stuff to one round, 30 secs and just try to protect a life lead?

So it's official. Yun and Yang are gonna be in SSFIV. Apparently a lot of characters are getting screwed royally. I am glad that Makoto will be getting improvements. For those that like Hakan it seems he may become a top tier character now. I guess since it's still too early in testing they might not go with some of the changes. But I wouldn't mind if they fix more than what has already been confirmed.

It doesn't seem so bad to me, there are improvements there, plus the game balance is probably being wholely changed so in the bigger picture (with the improvements all characters will get as well as nerfs) it won't be as bad as everyone thinks.
But in saying that, fuck them for nerfing E.Honda's damage :lol:
I mean a lot of the time it's near impossible to actually get in and do damage, so to reduce it and make it even harder to win in certain situations? great :banghead:

Where is this supposed list of changes? And out of interest, what do people mean when they say a character's top tier? Am I right in assuming it's based on damage output from special attacks, combos, ultra damage, ease of use etc? Always found it weird to see people debating about this for certain characters like Bison or Sagat when I really don't know how you classify a character in certain tiers. Not that it matters anyway, cause I played a Gen player earlier, easily the worst character in the game for me, and he absolutely floored me. Seriously impressive player, so it doesn't really matter who you play as does it, cause it's all down to player skill for me.

As for what they're like, well while they're not the same, Rufus was described as being like Yun and Yang has moves in common with Fei Long. They're students of Gen, so they might have moves in common there, but I'm too rusty with them to be able to remember clearly, haha.
As for other SF3 characters, I wouldn't mind SO much if no more were added, since SF3 will come out soon on 360, but if they were, I'd want Elena :D
Tier lists, well.. hmm.. the best way to describe them is, it's like a spreadsheet, of what would happen if two players with identical skill levels(impossible), played 10 matches, and what the result would be, like 6wins 4 losses if it's good or even 3wins 7 losses if it's a bad matchup, and they total up the numbers, and the ones with the highest amount of points are the highest teirs. Other lists are made from tournament results.
Some may argue that tiers don't matter, which imo is true, at least to a certain extent, and others say you can win with anyone, even so called bad tier characters, like Adon, who was supposed to be terrible, and Rufus, who was supposed to be no.1, and you saw what happened with Justin Wong this year and Gamerbee.
People in general in games are lazy, especially online, so that's why people like that, like tier lists, because they can win with less effort... and you end up with fighting the same small handfull of characters over and over.

I had the most random fight yesterday. Was playing against a Cammy who only did special moves. I mean, he/she didn't link any combos together, didn't even do any straight punches or kicks, just Cannon Spike into Spiral Arrow, all very seemlessly and effortlessly like it was computer controleld. Didn't even do any blocking. Really confused me with his randomness XD
Think I might spend some time with Juri, seems easy to use and can set up into her Ultra II quite easily if you hit them with an EX Shikusen and execute it just before they land. I dunno, I just find her easy to use.

tuff, i mained Juri when I first got SSF4, and the same can be said for ANY tactic, which is easily landable if you are good at mind games. but once you land the ex, all you have to do is execute at the right distance; which in itself is NOT difficult to do once you get the timing right. i got it down in 30 minutes on my first day. muscle memory ftw!

I only meant that if you use it too often, people expect it, in fact as soon as Juri gets Ultra 2 I guarantee the other player is watching out for it if they're good, so you will have a lot more trouble landing it, especially as the EX version has a shorter range, so you have to be pretty close usually, I find that jumping back seems to work the best when you're near them.
In fact Meowchi here stopped playing ranked online as Juri because everyone knew her muscle memory mind games ftw and she kept losing after a while, so that's a good example.

I can link Ryu/Ken's cr.MK into EX Hadoken like a pro! :nervous Just need to work on other characters, with Fei Long for example, I think the most effective link I can do in jump.HK into HP into his 3 Rekkas, but that requires me having to jump in all the time which I'm trying to cut down on. Think I'll even head to the training stage now and work on combos I want to nail down.

Wow, I started off the night by winning like 6 games in a row with different characters. And then.....man. The ranking system really is pretty brutal! :nervous And Juri's Ultra II has much less range to hit confirm than I thought. People jump right in and I think I can hit them, but obviously not. I've learned you really have to be up close when you pull it off. And you were right pika, people do see my tactic coming. There was a lot going on tonight that I'd never seen happen before. And I don't know if I can pin it down to lag or certain matchups between characters or what. For example, if someone is in the middle of a focus attack, and I execute an Ultra, how the hell do they have the time to block it? Only way that I have learnt is if they dash cancelled out of it just before I executed the move, thereby giving them the time to block, but they absolutely were in the same animation for a Lvl 3 FA when I pulled it off. Here's another one, Fei Long's Shinkyaku has always broken through someone when they jump into me, yet today apparently Ryu's MK is enough to prevent me from doing so. More than that, it's enough to break through my animation and cross up behind me.
I'll probably wake up tomorrow and realise myself what I did wrong, but now, I call that some ol bullshit. XD

Oh my goodness, the amount of lag affecting tonight's matches was bordering on the ridiculous. As an example Fei Long's EX Rekkaken didn't even break through someone's focus attack. Met a Guy player who got a life lead on me and kept jumping around the stage trying to avoid me. For one of the most offensive minded characters in the game I was shouting out 'YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!' :lol:

Last time I had an english fellow whose DAMN KEN just fuckin' kicked my Sakura's ass so hard I nearly did a rage quite lol.

Wow, my disdain hasn't even settled down even after some sleep. Did I miss a memo or something, cause everybody is now using focus attacks as I jump in with a HK which the FA absorbs and then they land it just before I can land another jab, crumbling me. Fall for it all the time too, I've played about 30 odd matches over the weekend, more than half of them used this tactic. It's like they've been watching meowchi's replays against me XD But there was just so much other bs that really annoyed me over the weekend. For example
- Availability: There was practically nobody playing games this weekend, meaning I had to create my own lobbies, which I don't generally like cause it results in far superior players joining and stomping my ass.
- Connections: First match on Sat was my own lobby. Player joined and he had a yellow bar, alright I thought, this should be ok. Fight started and oh my lord, it was like a collection of still images. Played it out and he won. He sent me a message soon after saying my connection sucked. Well, he was the one who joined the lobby. I just laughed it off
- Dhalsim: I've never been good against Dhalsim but this guy was just so good at spacing me out, didn't help that I was Fei Long at the time.
- Bison: One guy was pretty good with Bison, not pikapika level of good though, so I figured I could take him. Got a half bar lead on him first round and while I was in mid air he did Psycho Punisher, and it hit me just as I landed. He won that round. Then 2nd round he knocked me down, teleported and threw me as I got up. Did it 4 times in succession, and I absolutely did try a tech throw for each time. Fuck that guy.
- Balrog: and fuck Balrog too. Now my worst character to play against. I consider him to be broken. He can just crouch and block all day and exploit in the counterattack. He's got this 6 hit combo which if the first hit lands on you you're pretty fucked. And he's got that throw that can do so much stun damage. Crazy.

haha amazing how my opinion changes so much after going on a mini-winning streak. Wins with Ryu, Ken, Fei Long and Juri this evening and some truly epic matches. One match between me as Ken and Akuma went down to the final round. I had Akuma on the ropes, and I was wary he'd use his Ultra I. Sure enough as I'm jumping in, he executes it. Oh crap, so I immediately went into my Shinryuken, hoping that the jump would get me outta there. But it did better! I landed at just the right distance that it connected with Akuma just as he was closing in, which made for the most epic counter I'd ever done :lol:
Then I fought an Adon player with 4000+ PP as Fei Long, who I also beat! It also produced my first bit of hate mail and it was hilarious :lol: He asked me if I could teach him how to press X and RT in midair like I can. Sarcastic fucker. I responded with nothing but positivity, saying that jumping in was a fault of mine and other players have exploited it before (a hidden dig about his quality right there :P) and said it was well played and gg. He responded how it's all he sees online and I'm one of the guilty ones along with other Ryu/Ken players. I was Fei Long! :lol: As soon as I saw him do Jaguar Tooth I immediately inputted the Shinkuyaku and got him near enough every time. Then he said he doesn't play well at nights anyway. How lame. So his video game prowess increases when there's sunlight? Why does he even play at night if that's the case? :lol:
I made sure to save those replays, I'll watch them when I need cheering up :D

He does this, because a) all headbutts apart from EX are unsafe on block and he will punish with his own charge moves and b) he can punish ALL of Honda's possible jump ins (even buttslam) with c.HP, and not even trade damage.
The matchup is rated as 5:5 on Tier lists, which I feel is kind of correct however Balrog has about 4 versions of his dash punch, EX versions have super armor, plus he has 2 guaranteed ways into ultra 1, you can't say the same for Honda.
Now, since he's sitting there and you can't move forwards (walking forward = dash punch in the face, jumping in = c.HP or headbutt, focus attack = dash punch [armor breaking]) or do a headbutt if you have no meter, basically it's a stalemate and you have to wait it out on life lead and for the time to run out, if the Balrog STILL won't move. Even if you do finally get close, Balrog can keep your blockstun busy with all his light punches so you can't actually do anything back, or if he actually hits you with a light punch he'll follow up with his combo into Ultra 1 then sit across the screen, then repeat it all over again.
This used to bug me way more back in SF4 when there was way more Balrog players, or maybe I'm just more able to deal with it now or they're more impatient and give up these days, so it's not so bad for me anymore, just really freaking boring lol.
Dhalsim is kind of a similar situation with Honda, as he can zone you out and keep you there, and really you can't do much but wait it out and try and get an opening, usually when they try the trick where they do a fireball or ultra 1 and teleport behind you and try to hit you low and high at the same time so you can't block the ultra, or do the cross up.
Chun-Li and Guile & Ryu are other examples of zoning him out. Honda has so much trouble with zoning, you can only really rely on them either, giving up on it or taunting/showing off because they know you can't do anything about it, then punishing them for it, but some people are relentless and endlessly patient, so you're fucked basically, lol.

I don't think Honda is no.1 at all and I play as him!, people complain that his damage is too high, but seriously, in that and other situations prove to me that he honestly needs to have it, or he'll be almost worthless and unusable against characters like that, and those are some of the most popular characters in the game, lol

I competed in my first real major SSFIV tournament over the weekend. I didn't make it far but I'm rather pleased with myself. I of course knew that myself or any of my friends that competed were gonna win with Flash Metroid in attendance. Of course Flash took 1st with his C. Viper as expected. I'm just glad I got to compete and have fun. I was the only Adon there which was interesting. I fought some deadly Balrogs and Abels. Which sucks cause I have a hard time against both those characters. I also had a taste of my own medicine when I almost lost to a very able Makoto player. I did much better in the Blazblue tournament. Still it was a lot of fun to compete.

and woah. what the hell is going on here? I thought the people on tekken 6 were cheap, what the hell is this? everyone's using the cheapest, dirtiest tactics possible and they troll you like crazy, I just to a guy doing nothing but jumping HP, crouching HP and the bite throw over and over with Blanka, and IT WORKED, wtf I couldn't move or do anything.
I know PS3 has an input lag of just under a second, but is it really that bad? D: jeez.

My god MVC3 D:
First off I played DHG and his Dormammu is so freaking badass, I couldn't move forward or do anything, I was completely stuck in the corner eating fireballs, warps, fireballs => hyper fireballs ;__; I was so mad because I was so helpless, haha.
I even tried going nuts on him with Chun in the corner (I was genuinely mad as hell haha) but he must have high health too because that didn't work either :banghead:
DHG had to take pity on me and stop playing as him a couple of times :(
THEN my other friend wanted to play, and she uses Dante, Sentinel, Phoenix. She's pretty good with Dante, so that was hard enough, but of course, she doesn't use any Hyper bars, ever. So everytime I took out Dante & Sentinel, beating Phoenix = DARK PHOENIX.

I literally could not do anything after she changed & X Factored, blocking = incredible chip damage, attacking = overwhelmed by her huge powerful moves, running away = she got me anyways with teleports and fireballs all over the place. This one time I worked hard and even had 3 characters at pretty much full health = all killed in about 7 seconds.
All I could end up doing was running away when Phoenix was about to die then win by time, but that only worked once and then she was complaining to me about turtling... T___T I tried everything I could think of, using snapbacks to try and pull Phoenix out before she can change, but I don't think snapbacks work so good anymore, she just tagged out almost immediately so =/
so, in short I lost 10 - 1 :temper:

They broke my poor Honda and made him weak :(
EX-Headbutt does like NO damage, Jab Headbutt doesn't anti-air anymore (and I already had a big problem with anti-air anyway)
The stupidest thing though is Honda's Ultra 2, it already used to suck and have a TINY hitbox, but now they made it suck even more and you can actually just hold up (no matter what you are doing) when the Ultra animation comes out, and you can jump out of it every time. That is broken :(((((
I can see why Mike Ross, the top USA Honda player wants to give up on Honda in AE and never play him again D:
I've played Fei-Long since Super Street Fighter in 1994, so I'm happy to play him still now in AE since he's supposedly 3rd on the tier list behind the twins, but the thing is, he doesn't feel any better to me, he feels the same and I'm actually losing MORE than before xD
Oni is an interesting character to play as! with the overhead move and the jump back air move that really confuses people, I don't know if I'd be good enough to handle his low health though (even though it seemed to be not that bad) if I played as him seriously.

Free Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition balance patch coming At a EVO 2011 panel, Capcom's Yoshinori Ono announced that they've begun working on balance changes for Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition.
Capcom USA signed off on the patch and they will be testing balance changes it select locations in arcades in the future.
This will not cost any money, it'll be a free download, when it's released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Ono wants to take his time balancing this, and according to Seth Killian it will be available in the fall or winter time.
Ono said since he's announcing this, he's asking people to please tone down all of the bad language and insults on his Twitter account.

You can say Daigo wasn't at his best, he had a cold, yes it did seem that way, but also earlier on, the entire tournament was a cakewalk for him, maybe the pressure got to him in the end, or signing too many autographs and doing too much promotion with Mad Catz all day could of also counted against him, who knows.
Latif's streak against Daigo, Poongko was pretty impressive though, he also won SBO qualifiers as well, but had to give it up because of some visa issue.
This tournament also points something out, are the twins really that strong in the end?
It's something I've thought about, and in certain situations they are, but all of the Yun players got eliminated, no Yang players except Kindevu made it into the top 32 and he uses Yun instead now. There were more successful C.Viper players, lol.
Just like Phoenix in MVC3, people are figuring out what to do to beat them now, I don't think they'll be as nerfed as everyone wants them to be in the 2012 re-balance that ono is promising us, they might be, but I don't think it's needed as much.

Man, based on what I had seen Daigo do with Yun before, I was fully expecting the SSF4 finals to completely suck, with Daigo steamrolling everybody. After watching PR Rog's epic Tron comeback, I swore I had seen the best this evo had to offer, but man was I wrong. Poongko's little pre-match Red Bull theatrics were AMAZING lmao...I swear, that set my hype through the roof...and then practically demolishing Daigo 4 rounds straight was just the icing on the cake.
Latif eliminating Tokido, Poongko AND Daigo in succession was also amazing, pity the grand finals wasn't much in comparison, considering Fuudo already lit Latif up just a couple matches before.
All in all it was a good showing though, I enjoyed all the finals from BB to SSF4...me and everyone I was watching it with were pretty much going apeshit during SSF4, though. They make it look so fun, man...one day I gotta get out there.

If I collected western games, I might be tempted, but the only good thing about it is the OST's, the AE Anime movie and the Ryu belt, haha.
I appreciate the amount of stuff on the BluRays, but they're all crammed onto 2 discs or so, so it's just DVD quality, lol.
The games are pretty much a lack of imagination. Capcom of Japan puts older games on PS1/2 discs all the time in their big collections, this just has the 4 most recent games that everyone already has, and 2 of them are downloads. The free DLC is a bonus though.

bought the extra character dlc for street fighter x tekken. i don't mind paying for content, but it did seem kinda weird to me that blanka wasn't part of the playable characters. having to pay for such an iconic character :thumbdown:

Looks like it's SUPPOSEDLY a PS4/PC exclusive. It's possibly it's a timed exclusive, but a lot of people are saying it's not due to XBox One's poor sales in Japan.

Also, it looks like a new character reveal in the end. Some are saying akuma, some are saying honda. But some stills show he has dreads and markings on his face.

Looks more like e honda to me. the marks kinda match the pattern for his face paint.
Akuma should have darker skin, and normally red eyes. So it probably ain't him. it could be someone else though. :lol:

Apparently, someone datamined SFV. Lines of code pertaining to Guile (GUL), Dhalsim (DSM), Alex (ALX), Urien (URN), Ibuki (IBK), Juri (JRI), and Mike Bison (BSN) were found. There may be two more new characters (FAN and TUT).

What do people make of #Mikagate (fuck off with the -gate terms, seriously). Previously you would see Mika slap her butt when activating her super, but now for reasons unknown, it's changed now so the camera is higher up and you don't see the slap at all, yet you do still hear the sound effect happen. People have already threatened not to buy the game anymore (lol) and upset quite a few. For me, it must be something that was discussed during development and they decided to change it, which is fine, that's clearly not the same level of censorship that people are claiming it to be. But it seems to be done pretty lazily if you can still hear the smack. Who knows. Anyway, if people are that hung up about it they should probably play the PC version. If people can data mine the game to find future DLC characters I'm pretty sure someone can make a mod that returns the original angle. Either that or play DOA for your fighting game waifu titillation.

"FAN" is revealed to be a new character, F.A.N.G., who is a member of Shadaloo and rumored to be its second-in-command. His fighting style and ability to inflict damage over time is reminiscent of Gen. The game's opening seems to set him up as Rashid's rival.

Necalli (someone theorized that he might hail from Mexico and has roots in Aztec culture) is seeking to acquire souls of strong opponents. This would explain why he is shown in combat with Ryu in the game's opening.
