Despite her past scary looking phase, Umeda has been look really good lately! Especially with her her new hairstyle! I absolultely LOVE her voice, and I think she is one of the better sounding girls from the very start! She seems to get nervous super easy, though, so it makes her not as good as we'd probably hear? Anyways, she's the oldest HPK and definitely one of the most hidden because no one likes her... :(

But now I really like her again... haha. Her voice is awesome, and she's tall and skinny and she's looking great.  What else is there to ask from a H!P girl?

Erika's become so cute recently! I wondered if I was the only one who thought she was having an ugly phase, luckily she outgrew it.

I was kinda surprised to find out that she wasn't going to be the leader of °C-ute but it works out fine the way it is.

While I cannot say she is my absolute favorite she is definitely very cute.  Her Sports Festival 2006 DVD was fun to watch.  I don't think I ever saw the ISO posted in the torrents section so maybe I can try to share it some time when I have free bandwidth if there is more interest.

So, for their first two episodes of C-ute's new radio show, Cutie Party, Erika has hosted with Megumi, and it REALLY shows off her personality. I can't even understand what they're saying, and Erika's personality shines through. She has to be in my top favorite C-ute girls~

Erika is love.  Super love.

I read something a while back about her being half German or something, which was why she wasn't chosen for leader even though she was the oldest.

...but what ever she is still love.  Super pretty, super talented, I just havn't seen much of C-utes personallity to be able to say she is my C-ute favourite though.  I honestly don't have a C-ute favourite, but Yajima and Umeda have always stood out for me (Okai and Megumi also).

Hmm a neglected thread Poor Erika Umeda. Well all i can say is she is my fav member because she is alittle quirky (in all the right ways) and stands out. Then  again she is tall for a Japanese girl so i guess she cant help but do that. I like her voice as well.

I've started liking Erika more and more recently, I'm a superficial fuck so it's probably mostly because she's been looking very pretty. Her voice is nice too (though I still sometimes go like "is that Erika??" cuz her voice is so cute, but she looks mature). It seems hard to get to know her, though, even in backstage fun fun videos she often doesn't stand out. I wonder what it's like for her to be with "a bunch of kids" especially now that Meguru's gone.

And to think she'll be 16 this year :) They're growing up so fast!!

I don't think Berryz is for Erika. She belongs with C-ute (or in a shuffle with Miki and Miyabi. That was love). Especially since they are getting their first major single and a photobook. More attention for them which means more attention to Erika! Huzzah!

That was Megumi in Sexy Otona with Miki and Miyabi though, not Erika :D

I think lookswise Erika would stand out less in Berryz because there are other tall girls, too (and they look older than C-ute). I wouldn't change the groups, of course XD

1st time i saw her, i really dont like her (i had a really disturbing friend, and she looks just like erika's face, so i kinda hate her face back then :P)

but after she joined cute, i realised that she has a cute smile. i thought this girl is really tall but after i heard she is just 167, i remember the other members are just too short.. and i always curious about 'is she japanese?'

Seems like there was a break in the countdown :O

Anyway,
me and tama came to the conclusion that Erika is a girl magnet because so many girls here at the forum seem to like her XD

And then, after watching Wonderful Hearts concert, I really think Erika's among the best C-ute/Berryz/etc. performers, because when she sings a happy song you can really see the warmth in her eyes. Well, at least I can... I guess it's hard to explain but it's more than just singing with a smile on your face. It might have something to do with being older than a bunch of the kids, too... HRM HRM

That's SO true, I was going to post about this o/ She really impressed me... I mean the others (not just C-ute) look kinda spaced out sometimes or like they're not completely present on stage, but Erika is always THERE. You can see it in her eyes. Not to mention she's tall but she still dances well!! She and Maimi are like the only tall girls in H!P who don't look awkward dancing XD I think Erika is way, way underrated :O

She totally pwned me when I was watching that maze game from C-ute's DVD Magazine Volume 1-- particularly this one part during the game: around 3:37 where she almost bumps into the camera and basically turns around and giggles. I have to agree with all of that. I specifically remember at the 10th anniversary concert seeing her standing pretty much in front of me on more than one occasion when she came round the outer circle on the larger group performances. She seemed to be having a great time which is always something good to see in any HP member.

And I had to comment about Erika's performance in that recent 'Magical Cutie Tour' DVD (was uploaded to the H!O tracker a few days ago)-- just... wowowowowow. I don't think it's Maimi's or Airi's fault, actually. It's more like.. they're the most popular ones, so they'll get the attention. UFA/Tsunku has the last word on this. Tsunku goes to the concerts, and I bet he sees which member gets the loudest cheers/has more fans. Or something XD

However, in concerts, b-sides, and especially, TV shows, Umesan truly shines. What I appreciate the most from Umesan is that she's a damn good entertainer. <3

Obviously the popular girls are whored like crazy, but why not just re-name the group to "Airi, Maimi & the C-ute girls"? If it keeps going this way, I´d pretty much say she´s almost wasting her time (and obvious talent) in the group, I guess one reason why she doesn´t seem to ´care´during performances is simply because why should she? Not like she´s up front and all that anyways, it´s natural to seem like you´d rather be somewhere else, I know I would. [All this besides the fact that I believe she can´t handle the stress of an idol as easily as others]

Besides, this is the Erika thread, we can say stuff like that here  ;) Yes, and deem her the best in the group.

The "popular girls are overused" issue isn't exclusive to C-ute. With T&C being the exception, ALL the H!P groups overwork one girl (or two, maximum) over the rest, on singles and videos. But concerts being an important part of H!P, they should be taken into account when saying "It's just Airi, Maimi & the C-ute girls". Trust me, they all get enough time to shine in concerts.

I disagree with this. As you said, she doesn't seem to handle the idol stress too well. If she looks tired on some, it might be caused because of the stress, family/school troubles, and a long etc. However, the way you say "she doesn't seem to care during performances" sounds like "she never cares during performances". And I strongly disagree, on C-ute's first and second concert she was ON FIRE. If I misunderstood your point, then correct me please.

I don't have anything about anyone's favs/least favs girls, but I don't think The Official H!P Girls Threads should be used for bashing/expressing dislike for other H!P members. It's better to just not mention them at all, and focus on the girl we're in the thread for ;D

^ About all the girls overworking one or two girls, that´s true, but it seems certain groups in H!P are starting to change in terms of that or have changed already, even if just a little. For example, Maasa is actually getting a bit more exposure in Berryz, and even if Sayu hardlys gets lines in Momusu, she at least gets some screentime. Erika hardly gets any of both. And I´m just talking about songs and videos, not concerts.

And anyways, as I said, in this thread Erika is C-utie Queen  :) That´s what we fans think. I wasn´t bashing any other members of the group (I can do that in another thread, haha), just saying that we need more Erika because I´m getting very tired of 2 particular girls.

Like I said, concerts are a significative part of H!P. And imo, live vocals are the only ones that count. On studio they can easily be altered. I appreciate that, most of the time, C-ute sings live.

Unfortunately i don't see her getting many lines in the next one either which is a real shame. C-ute is pretty much becoming the Airi Suzuki show featuring Maimi Yajima and the girls of C-ute. Don't blame Airi its not her fault its the management for neglecting most of the group.

^ Tru dat, I'm kind of resigned to the fact that Erika is destined to stay in the background for C-ute and I can't see her going solo anytime soon that's for sure. I'm just waiting for a goddamn PB, one of Erika's charms is that she is so overlooked in H!P and I think that's one of the reasons I like her so much but the fact she hasn't had a solo PB yet is a crime, plain and simple.

If UFA knew that a lot of fans wanted an Erika PB, they'd give her one. Unfortunately, Erika doesn't have a whole lot of fans (in Japan anyway), so they don't want to give her a PB if it's not going to sell. Maimi and Airi keep releasing PBs because they sell.

I still think that eventually there will be a flood of Berryz/C-ute PBs for those that don't have one yet, just like they had one for the less popular MM girls a few years ago, before Koharu joined. They'd have to do one group at a time tho, because otherwise it would be like 8 PBs. :lol:

When I started watching °C-ute videos, she just caught my eye (at the beginning she still got more lines) I always thought it was unfair, how she wasn't the leader, even though she was the oldest  :(
She is not the greatest singer, but I think she deserved more attention.

Only Ume addresses to the fans. At the end of the messages she says "everyone (fans), saranghae you (I love you in Korean)", the saranghae part is in hangul... The rest of the girls write a message to Ume... man just look at how long is Maimi's message  :cry: waiting for a big scan to read what it says :( only big scans for Ume and Airi photos atm...

I watched that video before posting the tribute video. I did not watch the other "episodes", so not sure if it is the same song with other video interpretations, or sumpin else completely. But one thing fo sha, Erika does a great job in the clip! I have a hard time following her postings in the blog, but glad to see it spells "Diary" correctly know.

Had to look up Yuki Sanada (the girl who appears with Erika in  shurastriker's post above)- she seems to be an aspiring/current model  with Japanse father, Chinese mother, lives in Canada

This clip is Yuki with Japanese photographer Yasumasa Yonehara at a mall in Toronto area (he seems to be speaking in Japanese and then she translates into Chinese for the promotion they are doing)

Oh well. No point in dwelling on "what could've been".

Erika's obviously happy with what she's doing now (she wouldn't have left UF in the first place if it wasn't something that she really wanted to do), and that's what's important.

So Erika's first album came out recently and it's actually pretty great. I was disappointed by how autotuned it is since I thought of her as one of the better vocalists among the H!P kids, but a friend pointed out that she might be going for a Perfume-y kind of sound rather than using it to just cover her voice, so more power to her (whatever the real reason is).
