You're jumping the gun a bit. She's just going on hiatus (also known as "taking a break").  Maki issued an official statement about this a couple of days ago, and in it she does not say that she's going to be gone permanently. Both the official statement that she put on her website, as well as a translation of what it says is available for in the Maki thread here:

New TV Tokyo show for Konkon!
http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/moe_kon/

New show "もえこん" ("MoeKon") starting on TV Tokyo 7/11 @ 3:00 am!
It's near the bottom of this pic, click for bigger

2ch thread says:
Quote from: 2ch MoeKon Thread

It says the August issue of B.L.T. says that もえxこん ("Moe x Kon") will be airing as a 10-15 minute show every day Mon-Sun at varying times from 2-3.
"Every day KonKon"

I'm assuming the ending time for 7/20 is a typo and should be 3:05 instead of 3:50.
The "Moe" of the title is supposedly fellow new announcer Ueda Moeko (植田 萌子):

You may remember her from other shows with the TV Tokyo new announcers as the cute girl who sat next to Konkon in the front row.

Cross-posted from her thread:
Saki Ogawa to leave S/mileage and Hello! Project
http://s-mileage.jp/info/2945

It's been announced on the S/mileage website that this weekend's "Uchouten Love" release event on the 27th will be the final appearance for Ogawa as a S/mileage member. Both my limited translation skills and Google translate fail me at the moment, but she apologizes for the last-minute announcement and thanks everyone for supporting her.

EDIT: Translation courtesy of Takamaruyo.net
http://www.takamaruyo.net/?p=400

Quote
Thank you for always supporting me.

As of August 27th 2011 I, Ogawa Saki, will graduate from S/mileage as well as Hello! Project.

Since our major debut last year in May, I have enjoyed every single day as part of S/mileage.

However, somewhere down in my heart, I felt there was a gap between myself and the S/mileage me. I have talked it over with the staff many times and have been constantly worrying about it, and with everyone working their hardest to move forward and myself still uncertain of things, I decided that it was not in the best interest of S/mileage and I will return to being just a normal girl.

I apologize for the last minute announcement.

While there may be feelings of sadness, S/mileage will always be a group with it’s trademark smile!

I’ll be working my hardest to end with a smile until my last event on 8/27, I know there isn’t a lot of time left but I hope you can support me!

The new members will power up S/mileage after I graduate so I hope you’ll continue to support them.

Thank you very much for all your support up til now.

2011/08/24
S/mileage Ogawa Saki
Sad to see her go.

On the one hand, the suddenness of this announcement and the short time between it and her last event will fuel rumors that this might actually be her getting kicked out for some reason.

On the other hand, the new member auditions and the end of their weekly Ustream show both make more sense now.
Tsunku's comment makes it seem like the new member auditions were decided after Saki asked him to let her leave.
Plus, there's no real way to announce something like this slowly without compromising the group's cohesiveness.
Still, they probably could have made a bigger deal of this if they wanted to.

I'm inclined to take the announcement at face value, since S/mileage, Oha Star, and school are undoubtedly a lot to deal with.
I always felt she was the odd one out a little bit, being the only one who wasn't at least 15 or in Shugo Chara Egg.
It's not unheard of for someone to want to step out of the spotlight in favor of a more normal life.

Darn, I was already starting to lose touch on Smileage happenings. I was going to do a whole H!P update, and Saki was the one I wanted to check out most. :(

I just downloaded today's Oha Star, and right after Saki's goodbye VTR it says a new member of Oha Girl Maple is joining tomorrow!

Here's a screenshot:

It says she's age 14, 157cm tall, from Fukuoka, and a member of that famous group.

If that sounds familiar, it's because it has to be Eripon!
The silhouette even has her short hairstyle and is in her member color.

Oh D: she's always been one of my favourite members of S/mileage and I used to feel sorry for her that she hadn't been a part of Shugo Chara Egg and LilPri too... but I suppose her Oha Star job made up for being the odd one out in a way...
It'd sad to see her leaving so soon. So I suppose Tsunku probably didn't plan to make them a group with generations like MM until he was faced with the issue of the group becoming a trio so soon... (I suppose it's not so "soon" really but compared to groups that go for years before disbanding and with the small number of members getting even smaller it's not ideal.)

However, it's nice to hear Eripon's getting an extra job~! :P

So I was randomly checking the H!P site and saw this: http://www.helloproject.com/news/1110051215_musume.html

Sayumi will have a Ustream show every week "Mobekimasutte nani??", Thursdays 10pm... Maybe this isn't news, I dunno haha, it was new to me

The first show is tomorrow starting at 10pm Japan time, with guests Kanyon and Dawa from S/mileage :3
Must be prerecorded since the S/mileage girls are underaged and there's already a picture of them together. XD
Considering the Mobekimasu name, she'll probably have all different H!P girls as guests ^^

The show URL is here
