The Expendables (2010)
« on: October 15, 2009, 08:51:26 PM »

The Expendables is an upcoming 2010 ensemble action film written and directed by Sylvester Stallone. Filming began on March 28, 2009 in Brazil, New Orleans, and Los Angeles and is expected to be released on August 20, 2010. The film pays tribute to the blockbuster action films during the 1980s and early '90s, as the film includes action veterans from those decades (such as Stallone himself, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis).

Cast
* Sylvester Stallone as Barney "The Schizo" Ross, a veteran Expendable and leader of the team.
* Jet Li as Bao Thao, expert at hand-to-hand combat.
* Jason Statham as Lee Christmas, second in command of the team. He is a former S.A.S. soldier and expert at Close Quarters Combat using knives.
* Dolph Lundgren as Gunnar Jensen, a Swedish expert at sniping. He later gets fired and kicked out from the expendables and is hired by Monroe to kill the Expendables. Jensen hates Bao Thao and fights with him frequently.
* Terry Crews as Hale Caesar, Bao's best friend, a weapons specialist.
* Eric Roberts as Monroe, a corrupt C.I.A. agent who is preventing the Expendables from killing General Garza.
* Mickey Rourke as Tool, a former Expendable, now an arms dealer and tattoo parlor artist/owner who helps the Expendables.
* Steve Austin as Dan Paine, Monroe's bodyguard and a former Marine.
* Charisma Carpenter as Lacy, Lee Christmas' fiancee.

i heard Van Damme and Steven Seagal turned down the offer to be in this movie....would've been cool seeing JCVD back on the big screen for another action flick.

FUCK YEAH!!! All the villains too. It's like every action movie rolled into one, too bad Arnold can't cameo. Or Bruce Willis be the voice of the parrot. Stupid Van Damme and Steven Seagal, prolly wanted more money?!

SO RIPPED!!!

He can do pec flexing with Terry Crews (anyone see him in Longest Yard?)

Dolph Lundgren on ‘The Expendables’

It must feel like 1985 again for action star Dolph Lundgren. Not since his breakout performance opposite Sylvester Stallone in ROCKY IV has he enjoyed the level of popularity he is experiencing now for his upcoming role in Stallone’s highly anticipated action movie THE EXPENDABLES. Lundgren was recently interviewed by MovieWeb where he talked about the film, his “crazy” role in it and working with Stallone again. He also touched on his latest film release, COMMAND PERFORMANCE, and addressed the question of whether or not he thinks male stars are too wimpy today.

Regarding bringing humor into his role as “Jenson” in COMMAND PERFORMANCE, Lundgren said he didn’t plan for that initially but it came out during the scriptwriting phase. Stallone challenged him to bring even more humor into his role in THE EXPENDABLES. “Stallone wrote this great character for me. He’s crazy but funny in a comedic way. He’s a good guy and a bad guy at the same time,” said Lundgren. “Stallone really pushed me to get those comedic moments to work. It’s something that I hadn’t really ever done before. It was hard for me, especially with Stallone directing. And we have all of these other guys there. Stallone is a pretty tough director. You don’t mess with him. But those scenes certainly proved that comedy in these types of films is very important.”

Lundgren talked about the level of violence audiences can expect in Stallone’s film. “THE EXPENDABLES is violent, but it’s not as violent as RAMBO. It’s funnier. It has a little more humor. There are some moments where guys get blown across the room. They get stabbed and shot, and shit like that. But it’s not as bad as RAMBO. The tone is a little bit more entertaining.” In playing opposite Stallone, Lundgren suggested that the two strike a strong visual contrast that plays well with audiences. “On film, there is a certain thing between us. We have a great screen presence together. He is Italian and dark. I am the blonde Nordic type. When we are together on screen, it looks very good when they cut back and forth between us. I realized that when I saw THE EXPENDABLES just on the monitors, when we were filming.”

“We have two or three scenes together. Those are my favorites. It’s so old school. It’s a confrontation scene between two men. It’s real, character-driven material. Stallone writes really well. I was very pleased to make that come alive on screen. I think people are going to really dig it,” said Lundgren in response to a question about his favorite scene.

After Stallone dissed Batman (Tim Burton version) as the downfall of 80s action movies, here he is at Comic Con!

LOL I didn't expect this, with all that Scott Pilgrim talk:

'The Expendables' Tops North American Box Office
2010-08-16 09:12:46     Xinhua       Web Editor: Xie Tingting

Sylvester Stallone's widely-expected film opened at the top position of the N. American box office.

Two widely-expected debuts, featuring veteran action star Sylvester Stallone and actress Julia Roberts respectively, opened at the top two positions of the North American box office, relegating Warner Bros' "Inception" into the fourth place, the North American box office authority said on Sunday.

"The Expendables", a Liongate action-war film co-written and directed by Sylvester Stallone who also acted with Jason Statham and Jet Li, is projected to sell 35 million dollars worth of movie tickets in Canada and the United States, landing the top position of the box office derby of the weekend.

Opening on approximately 4,300 screens at 3,270 locations, the Stallone film is his best premiere weekend ever.

"Eat Pray Love", a Sony drama featuring Julia Roberts, is estimated to sell 23.7 million dollars worth of admitting stubs, well on track for a second place showing.

Based on the best-selling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, the film deals with the experience of a conflicted woman who travels around the world and discovers the powers of nourishment, prayer, and love during her journey.

Premiering on close to 3,700 screens at 3,082 locations, the film topped the 20 million dollars mark set by "Julie & Julia" during the first weekend showing last August. It also marked Julia Roberts' biggest launch in a top-billed role since "America's Sweethearts" in 2001. Seventy-two percent of moviegoers are female, and more than half of them are those 35 years and older, according to distributor Sony Pictures.

The remaining movies in the top five, in terms of estimated sales from Friday evening through Sunday night, are:

- No. 3, "The Other Guys", Sony/Columbia, 18 million dollars this weekend, 70.5 million dollars over two weeks;

- No. 4, "Inception", Warner Bros., 11.4 million dollars this weekend, 248.6 million dollars over five weeks;

- No. 5, "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World", Universal, debuting with 10.5 million dollars this weekend.

went to watch it today. :theking

SPOILERS!!

With all the star power. I expected it to be TEN TIMES THE BODYCOUNT. but yeah Stallone tried to make a story out of it. Dolph getting redeemed. And all those racist Jet Li jokes lolwut

Like lol all dem old guys with their fake tattoos, it only took the end for bodys to get exploded. I comfess I just wanted to see Arnold and Stallone and Bruce scene, totally hilarious seeing their old faces - really bad one liners. Terry Crews had the best gun, he stole the show!

I liked that "Let's go back" and Jason Statham randomly shoots and they light the whole deck on fire haha

she was nice. random latina. YOU knew it was the General's daughter somehow, eh? Where's ur father? Nice art Pfffffft.

Shit if they do a #2 like Stallone tweets (http://twitter.com/TheSlyStallone) "Had dinner with Bruce Willis last night. I want him in EXPENDABLES II as a super villain. What do you think?"

They should have like Clint Eastwood do a cameo, bring back all of Stallone's Rocky and Rambo enemies (which looks like with Mr. T and Hulk Hogan is a yes)

Expendables was aight, trying to hard to make a mercenary "lost my soul" story out it. Rambo 4 was better tho. More splatter.
