Here we can discuss random stupid sports like cornholing, cheese racing, and

...in the 2005 Wife-Carrying World Championships in Finland in July, organizers said Monday.

Quote
The whimsical annual event resembles a 250-yard steeplechase in which the ''wife'' rides upside down on the runner's back with her legs slung over his shoulders for maximum speed.

Rodman, 44, quit the NBA in 2000 and is known for his escapades.

But don't expect Rodman to walk down the aisle just for the event: He will be allowed to borrow a ''wife'' if he is neither married nor engaged in time for the championships on July 1-2.

Women must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 108 pounds in order to qualify.

''It was Rodman himself who contacted us. He's tried just about everything, but not this,'' a spokesman for the organizing committee, Eero Heinaenen, told Finnish news agency STT.

The competition takes place in Sonkajaervi, a small lakeside town 310 miles north of the Finnish capital Helsinki.

The world record is held by Margo Uusorg and Birgit Ulricht of Estonia, who completed the race in 55.5 seconds.

Quiet Romanian

Romanian firebrand Ille Nastase wouldn't like to hear it, but if his compatriot, Victor Hanescu, beats Roger Federer in the French Open quarterfinals, the party will be quiet.

''What can I do? This is my style,'' Hanescu said about his demeanor.

``The most excited I got was when I won playing [junior] Davis Cup for Romania when we beat Belarus.''

And how did he celebrate?

``I fell to my knees, and I was very happy.''

Can't you take lessons on how to be loud?

''I think it is not necessary,'' he said. ``I am like this always. I'm quiet. I don't need lessons.''

Loving anonymity

For England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, this week's two-game trip to the United States probably is as close as he will get to a working holiday.

Unrecognized in Chicago or New York, Eriksson can relax from the bold headlines of England's tabloids.

''It was refreshing in Chicago,'' Eriksson said Sunday, a day after England beat the United States 2-1 at Soldier Field in the first of two exhibitions.

``Our hotel was a short walk to the lake, and you could go there and nobody knew who you were.''

Eriksson and his team are in New York for today's match against Colombia at Giants Stadium.

The new poker...COMPETITIVE EATING:

A 62-year-old retired accountant from Nevada swallowed 247 peppers in eight minutes to win the Jalapeno Eating World Championship at the State Fair of Texas.

Watch out Kobahashi!! XD

Then there's this:

Quote
Christopher Huang, of Arlington, entered the competition even though he doesn't normally eat spicy foods.

"I eat mild salsa," Huang said. "But there's nothing like putting yourself through a lot of pain for no reason."

The 26-year-old required several minutes of recovery time after eating 53 jalapenos.

"I cant feel my face," he said when he was able to speak again.

Any Aussies check out the WORLD CHAMPION cockroach racing?

http://www.cockroachraces.com.au/

Quote
This year's event attracted a crowd of over 5,000 people and of course cockroaches.

The idea was to drink a huge amount of alcohol. Then purchase a cockroach champion - after that, it was up to the roach to perform.
