Well, since Norton blows goats, and I'm gonna reformat comp soon cause I have so many viruses  , just wanted your opinion on what's your personal favourite antivirus and firewall kinda software.
-
actually, there is someone who have ask this earlier.. you can find what jphipsters' opinion here.. http://forum.jphip.com/showthread.php?t=5431
-
^ thank you :) only checked first page to see if anyone posted it, didn't check later pages =P
-
try antivir or avast...avg works pretty well also....not much of a memory hog either.
-
CA antivirus - seems pretty good. You can usually get it for free after rebate.
-
None. I just browse safe websites and download from reputable sources. <3
-
Antivir is pretty good.
-
I don't need an Anti-Virus because Mac's don't get viruses :D
I win!
-
Lol Shoko! I'll be joining the ranks of Macs soon enough. (Wish it was the end of January- I want my MacPro to get here already. X__X)
As for me, I'm using Pandasoft on Aya-1 (my desktop) and McAfee with my laptop (currently using now).
-
I use Zonealarm for firewall and Avast antivirus as an antivirus program. Both are free and pretty good compared to the Norton 2003 I had before them.
-
I've been using AVG Free for several weeks, and never been bothered with a virus yet.
It takes up less than 2MB of memory, which is quite absurd. Even my CPU temperature tracker takes up twice as much memory.
-
I have been using AVG free for years now, and never had any problems with viruses. Although I'm too smart for not search random porn sites and open suspicious e-mails, so I guess my AVG never has been put on a real test.
-
NOD32. great antivir (one of the best) smallest footprint ever.
-
None. I just browse safe websites and download from reputable sources. <3
Same here :otomerika:
-
I've tried NOrton, McAfee, PC Cilin, Avast and Zone Alarm.
I say that Zone Alarm is by far the best, it finds every viruses and is very light on memory usage. After ZA I'd pick Avast and PC Cilin.
McAfee was good but this last version full of bugs and uses A LOT of your machine, well and there's is norton which is worse than nothing.
-
I think ZA is overrated. Taking up too much memory nowadays.
I personally go for AVG for antivirus and Outpost for firewall.
Btw, if you can choose only 1, which would you guys go for? firewall or antivirus?
-
I use NOD32, I used to use norton but it failed me >_<
AVG is good too, and eats less memory.
If I had to choose I'll choose antivirus. I get more viruses from my friend's thumb drives than off the internet (the internet's pretty safe if you're careful enough)
-
Firewall of course! You don't necessary need a antivirus program if you have a good firewall program.
-
Yeah... i use AVG and its pretty good :/
-
I just bought Trend Micro Pc-cillin Internet Security 2007 recently. Used Pc-cillin for a while now and I really like it.
-
Firewall of course! You don't necessary need a antivirus program if you have a good firewall program.
Yes, and everything you download you are sure has no virus/trojan/etc.??
Most ADSL/Cable modems have a firewall build-in these days, so if you pick only one, pick a virus scanner!
-

I've thought about trying out NOD32, just haven't yet, still been using AVG which has been good.
I like that, with AVG, I can right-click dled rar's and zip's and have AVG scan them, something I always do.
-

Good bit torrent trackers don't have virus's or trojan's in their files and most of them has a option to comment the torrent so it's pretty easy to check that it's ok.
-
I always use norton, never liked to use others since they arnt appealing enough to me, at least
-
I used to like norton too, but it failed me once, made me had to reinstall windows (well, i could probably just clean the viruses using safe mode but there will be traces of them left) so I never use it again >_<
@L-san
I think AVG are just as good as NOD32 (I use AVG for my work PC and it works fine).
-
I only use Kaspersky ..... hmm ..that's enough ???
-
You can choose only 1, which would you guys go for? firewall or antivirus?
Well this kinda same as you would like to have children but you had to choose between a penis and testicles.
I'd go with a penis.
-
I'm currently using Norton Internet Security.
-
Lol my question sparked quite abit of a response :ROFL
I'll personally go for firewall myself as long as you play it safe and don't download suspicious or unknown file.
-
Currently using AVG free edition. Works fine and it doesn't use too much resources.
-
Using Norton Anti-virus and Norton Confidential
-
Still using Antivir Personal PE + Spyware Doctor + Spyware Blaster + Adware Personal 6.0 + Spybot: Search & Destroy + Registry Mechanic 6.0 <-- highly recommended, very powerfull i assume
-
In my experience Norton just sucks and can't do the job it's hired for.
I'm using Avast professional and Sygate firewall. I have no problems whatsoever.
-
I think i'll bring this thread back up once again... :P
For me it's always norton, i knew it's heavy but it's always protecting me with good.
and norton 2009 is the most amazing for me.
Low memory consumption, quick install.
What i'm gonna ask is what's the difference between Norton 360 and Antivirus ???
-
I don't use one. I just use common sense.
Use a decent browser (anything but IE).
Don't open email attachments (but be careful if you do open any).
If I download software that's not from a trusted site I'll use an online scan. I used to use housecall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/) but since the version of java was updated it won't work for me any more so I found BitDefender (http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html) do an online scan so I use that one now.
In 9 years I've had 3 viruses, 1 was when I'd only had my pc 1 week (and it was a rubbish virus that didn't do anything) and the other 2 from a Japanese p2p prog. Oh, and I got a dialler from Robb's Celebs (that site was full of them) but I'm on broadband not connected to a phone line so that was another fail.
-
I'm still using the same AV as 2 years ago, NOD32 :) still works well, haven't had a virus in ages.
-

This should help you out: http://www.symantec.com/norton/products/charts/comparison.jsp?pcid=mp (http://www.symantec.com/norton/products/charts/comparison.jsp?pcid=mp)
I use Norton Internet Security 2009 meself as it's never let me down in the past...and was half price.
-
I use AVAST.. but only beacuse I don't have the money for McAffee XD
-

I'd link to the actual report but you would have to register to see it. Though Symantec seems a little defensive about the results.
I'm surprised this has not been mentioned yet on this thread. But keep your software updated as well. It might be obvious to some but it should be mentioned anyways. Especially with 3rd party apps like Flash, Firefox, Adobe PDF reader and the like. The OS itself is becoming a harder target these days and black hats are increasingly picking holes in popular 3rd party apps rather than trying to take down the whole OS.
-
I think ZA is overrated. Taking up too much memory nowadays.

AVG Anti-Virus is free.
ZoneAlarm Firewall is free.
Windows Firewall is free and built-in to any modern version of Windows.
If I had to turn one off or the other, I'd go without the firewall - but I can't see why I'd bother going into the Windows security settings to turn it off, by default it protects just fine.

hoo..., thanks. now i know which one is better...., btw i just realised that Norton goes to G.I.JOE, definitely some kind marketing tactics
-
I use McAfee from my school
-
Before, I use Kaspersky, but now I use AVIRA...
-
Common Sense v1.0
I scan occasionally with Avira or Avast, but they always turn up nothing. 22 years virus free :cokecat:
-
It all comes down to behavior. Been anti-virus free for many many years now and I wouldn't have it any other way. ;)
-
Been using AntiVir for about a year and never even notice or think about it. :)
-
Kaspersky is the best
the problem is the activation key
-
McAfee
-
I'm using nod32. its stable and good.
-
AVG free cos I'm cheap.
-
im using kaspersky at the moment, i dont think eset is as good, i caught this virus even when it was on randomly.
-
Microsoft Security Essential.
I think it's quite good for now.
-
AVG, version 8.5.426
but all security components has disabled :P
i will enable it, only if someone want use my PC.
-
I'm an AVG girl & its always been an amazing help (despite my recent virus problem, but i blame my mother for that n00bs have amazing powers at getting viruses past protection). I didn't have one for a while which was a big mistake, but as soon as I d/led AVG again it cleaned them out right away
I hate Norton with a passion, its like having your parent follow you everywhere you go on a Saturday night & they are constantly whispering in your ear that each club you enter & drink you have might possibly be unsafe! Norton hates everything, it just gets in my way
-
I use avast!, even though it seems to have a propensity for triggering false positives quite a bit. This has only happened once in the past year and a half (a couple of weeks ago when it flagged an Adobe component as a virus), but early last year it seemed every month or so some innocuous file would be flagged, throwing me into a tizzy.
Honestly...avast! flagged the Windows Movie Maker installer as a trojan at one point last year. The Windows Movie Maker installer that came with Windows, mind you.
-
I've been using Antivir for about a year now with good results, it catches things rather quick, annoying popups when it updates aside. and its free 8)
-
Symantec, because my university requires it. We need it working, or else we can't use the internet.
-
I use Virtualbox to run all new programs that I don't trust completely. Virtualbox is a "virtual" PC that lets you install Windows and other operating systems. If a virus infects the OS in Virtualbox I simply revert the entire virtual machine to a previous state or delete it and create a new one. I reccomend at least 2GB of RAM to run it though since it doesn't share any RAM between the host and the OS it is running in the virtual machine. Virtualbox can run some but not all 3D games and it has a fullscreen mode.
This it not an Anti-Virus software, more like an Anti-Virus strategy.

-
i use the avast! version that comes with this google pack of programs... i never really scanned my pc and the only virus i got are the ones i got in my usb (not really a problem anyways)... must be because i barely download porn
-
AVG because ITS FREE xD
-
Symantec Antivirus - free because my mother works for the state.
But I'm thinking about going over to Microsoft Security Essentials.... I hear it is good.
-
I use Avast Pro edition and AVG Security suite
-
kaspersky :twothumbs
-
NOD32
-
I use AVG. Is there another anti-virus program that can complement AVG?
-
suggest the antivir or avg :)
-
I use Antivir because it has a very high detection rate as shown by the tests conducted by av-comparatives.org:
http://av-comparatives.org/comparativesreviews/main-tests (http://av-comparatives.org/comparativesreviews/main-tests)
-
Nod32 all the way. I work on computers alot, and am shocked at some of the big names not being able to catch stuff. Norton is one I avoid. Another one I like is Avira. It is free, and does a great job.
-
I just downloaded AntiVir and so far, it seems pretty good.
I'm paranoid XD I have two anti-virus programs (not including a spyware tracker).
-
But I'm thinking about going over to Microsoft Security Essentials.... I hear it is good.
You hear correct, it's definitely working well for me.
-
Just tried out DR Web, and I am quite impressed. Really cool it does more than viruses like spyware and such. I'll have to put it through the test to find out, but so far so good. The only problem i'm finding so far is that the scan time is VERY long. Other then that, so far so good.
-
I only have experience with BitDefender, but it has never let me down and I've only heard good things about it. Also heard that Kaspersky is a good one.
-
using avast
-
I'm paranoid XD I have two anti-virus programs (not including a spyware tracker).
LOL I read u can't use two at the same time cuz they'll conflict.
I'm using AVG for a few weeks now, not bad on this shitty old desktop (256MB memory). Norton failed me many times!!!
-
im using AVG free..i like the free stuff..
but idk some ppl say that its not as good as before..
at onemanga they say that its not as good as before..
but yeah every ppl got different opinions
-
AVG ---> Avira ---> avast!
Am very happy with avast! :)
-
What's free antivirus do u recommend, guy ?
For now I use antivir.
-
AVG isn't as good as it once was, but I still haven't found anything better.
-
I've officially made the switch over to Microsoft Security Essentials.
I've also heard Panda Cloud Antivirus is good.
-
i use avira
-
Im using Avira too
-
I use Microsoft Security Essentials :cow:
-
AVG user in my desktop
Norton user in my laptop XD
-
Im using avira for 2yrs now
so far it hasn't given me any problem probably cause im a cautious surfer
-
I use Kapersky- I don't know too much about programs/computers as this is my first laptop that I have control over completely, so I find it does the job well enough!!
-
Of all the anti-viruses I have used, I find Kaspersky most effective and least annoying. Norton is a close second.
-
I'm using AVAST
-
Use avira free, I think the most important is keep all our software up to date :D
-
Nod32 coupled with malwarebytes pro
-
Been using ESET NOD32 antivirus for about 3 years. So far it always does the job. 8)
-
Here's an interesting study done recently testing out most of the top anti-virus programs.
It rates them based on their detection rate, how quickly they could scan, and how many false positives they generated.
Short article: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1735260/anti-virus-systems-tested (http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1735260/anti-virus-systems-tested)
Results (PDF): http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_od_aug2010.pdf (http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_od_aug2010.pdf)
-
Currently, I'm using the free version of AVG. I've tried some others in the past, but don't remember seeing huge differences in them. I'm not exactly sure why I'm using AVG now, actually. :) It seems like most of the freely available anti-virus programs are similarly effective, so any one is probably good.
-
ESET NOD32 with USB Disk Security and a-squared, work pretty good in my laptop :thumbsup
-
dr web cure it, for emergency virus scanning, rally helpfull
-
i used to use the avira but the refurbished comp i bought not too long ago came with avg free installed, and i like it maybe a bit better than avira
-
Hi All,
I run ZenOK Free Antivirus (http://freeantivirus.zenok.com/url) on two PC's and on my laptop, the free editions, it has given me excellent protection, for eg, my kids bring their school projects home on USB flash sticks, as soon as they plug in the sticks the anti virus shows the infections from the school pc,s
my pc's just to confirm the virus and spyware protection, so far so good,
Regards
-
Hi girls I'm using a supercute free antivirus (http://freeantivirus.zenok.com/url) called ZenOK. My best friend recommended to me because her bother works with them..I don't know much about antivirus but I thought I might be good to recommend it
-
avira antivir is pretty good
-
what's avira?? cuz shit son! CAUSES STAIN stay away from AVG. got me some massive malware. killed my run.dll so I couldn't open any programs, and it was a bitch to back up lol
just did a search and went with avast. so far ok. less than a day, the chick telling u the viruses been updated unngh :fap
avast! 5.0.677 (P.C.) - Sound Effect & Speech: Scan complete [English] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj-UA7YddC8#ws)
That's my anti virus criteria lol
but really, it was blocking random .exes I was running like NHL 2001
-
I like to use the combination of Malwarebytes and Microsoft Secuity essentials. I Haven't had to reformat my computer in months. It takes care of my computer
-
Uhm...we use NOD32 though I really don't know how to use it hahaha I'm being unhelpful huh? kekeke sorry... :D
-
I use avast! for real-time scanning, but when I'm scanning for viruses I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware :thumbup
-
AVG and AVAST :thumbsup
-
I used to use Avast in the past, but for now I use MSE
-
I used to use Avast in the past, but for now I use MSE
What MSE is? :?
-
it's Microsoft Essential Security
It's not good enough.
IMO, there are so many program that is better than this one hahaha
-
it's Microsoft Essential Security
It's not good enough.
IMO, there are so many program that is better than this one hahaha
Oh, Thank you
Maybe I can try this.
-
Just using Kaspersky Internet Security 11.0 :thumbsup
-
it's Microsoft Essential Security
It's not good enough.
IMO, there are so many program that is better than this one hahaha
How?
It does intercept scripts/program downloads etc. and about as invisible as it gets. So what is 'not good enough' about it?
-
Microsoft Security Essentials ftw 8)
It's been said before but better than any anti-virus is a firewall/router, updated software (esp. flash, java and the browser, since anti-virus doesn't help you if they have flaws people exploit) and some caution with opening email attachments.
-
I'm echoing MSE. I can't recommend AVG anymore after I've seen viruses rip through it like it was nothing (ransomware that actually deleted AVG and tried to sell a fake AV). No problems with MSE on the 6 computers I manage yet.
-
^^^ Avast works awesomely!
-
avira
-
I use AVAST, its free and it updates always, good to have XD
-
i'm using avast! pro
-
Panda Cloud Antivirus
-
Trust Port, although i used to use kapersky for 3 years.
-
Avast and SMADAV
-
avg free :cow:
-
Tried NOD32, but went back to Microsoft essential
-
Got a free 1 year norton licence from a friend so it'll do for now even though I know its not the best out there.
-
NOD32. Good but kinda annoying with its persistence.
-
Avira, free version
-
AVG and NOD32
-
My own common sense. Linux ftw
-
Malwarebytes seems to be working as a backup to Security Essentials for me.
-
Using Avira free version and Malwarebytes. Seems to be working fine so far.
-
Norton Antivirus
-
Malwarebytes seems to be working as a backup to Security Essentials for me.
Yeah, that seems to be a popular combination. I do the same, and use Spybot Search and Destroy to "immunize" my hosts file.
-
Full version of Avast! on my desktop and Norton on my laptop. Liking the Avast! better than the norton. I think norton takes too much of the memory and slows the computer.
-
I'm using Avast too :D
-
I've used Norton, nod32, kaspersky, and avg. nod32 and kaspersky are tied at the top but right now i'm using kaspersky.
-
I only have ad-aware and spybot.
-
Avast user since 2005 or so :twothumbs
-
norton is good enough for me
-
I have F-Secure because I'm Finnish
-
AVG and Malwarebytes for you know, malware.
-
Avira in combination with spybot and win7 fw
-
Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. It's pretty good. I use them mostly because they're free and I'm cheap.
-
just Microsoft Security Essentials
i don't really need a good antivirus program
-
Kaspersky O0
-
Now the MSE built into Windows 8, along with Secunia PSI (http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ (http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/)) to keep stuff up to date.
-
I use MSE and Malewarebytes.
Seemed like MSE was not quite as weighty as some of the other free options I tried. But who knows, not the most computer literate.
-
NORTON CORPORATE 10 .. SLOW BUT RELIABLE AND SAFE
-
Kaspersky and spybot :jphip:
-
ESET Internet Security :peace:. Used for years, awesome detection rate and lightweight.
-
For the past few years, I've been using eset nod32. Probably the best antivirus out right now that uses little resources and doesn't install with a bunch of bloatware.
-
I'm using AVG right now but might switch over to Norton. What do you guys think?
-
i have been using AVG since 2010 or so...
opinion... its sometimes annoying because if you want to play a new installed games you need to disable it first T_T (ah well i downloaded the game so i guess the 'crack' is thought to be a virus or maleware)
-
i use microsoft security essentials and malwarebytes. i rarely go on sketchy websites so i think i am okay. im a safe-surfer
-
Im using avast.. Most downloadable of all free antivirus. its easy and safe to use :)
-
I'm using Avira. Of the free antiviruses, I prefer it the most even though it does get a little wonky with adding exceptions.
-
Avast generally. Too many bad experiences with Norton to ever use that again.
-
Avira and AVG lol
i dont know they come with several apps i installed. nd seems to be working just fine.
i wonder why
-
Microsoft Security Essentials as my "daily driver"
Malwarebytes when I need something more heavy duty.
-
i'm using AVG and malwarebytes..
i think these two are enough..
-
Avira working well for me
-
Eset NOD 32
-
For those who can read chinese, I strongly recommend this Anti virus.
360 Anti virus and 360 Internet Security (It comes with set, idk why. LOL)
This both thing protect my comp since I started to use them. Easy to use and it's FREE!
-
Was using Avast until it's full scans slowed my laptop to a crawl. I swapped over to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware; I've had good results with it before, and it still work like a charm!
-
i've been happy with the free avast for the pc, and lookout for the tablet (lookout can even locate the device if it's ever lost which is pretty cool)
-
I use Kaspersky because it uses low system resources.
-
i use windows defender  and it's powerful enough
-
i have only use avast since my first pc
-
used kaspersky full version before, wow it killed some hidden bugs in my com which i never knew from using free softwares.
well, anyways, i'm back to using free stuff cuz i just like them free, and i'm using avast after finding out that luke filewalker(avira) cant really do much
-
haven't use one in a long time, it's a waste of money, waste of resources....
just careful with where i go and what i download....
