Now and again myself and others post some songs from video games in the Gaming Postwhoring thread which is great but occassionally it gets lost in amongst, well, the postwhoring XD So what better than to have a topic dedicated to it? Cause let's face it, videogame music can be awesome, so simply post your favourites! Try to limit it to 1 or 2 per post, but do try to post videos (they can be of the original song or, if you want, they can be covered versions; whatever shows the song off best).
There's so many I have but for now one of my favourites soundtracks is from Shenmue. Loved the fact you could just buy the tracks as casette tapes and just listen to them on your casette player:

1. Parasite Eve's "Primal Eyes" - Electric guitar and piano taking turns sounding awesome, while the intro throws all the crazy stuff you'll be seeing throughout the game. YEAH! :thumbsup
2. ZOE 2nd Runner's "Beyond The Bounds" - I had that on my mp3 player for years.
Sorry. I had to add a 3rd one.
3. FF2's "Zeromus Battle Theme" - My No.1 game song of all time from my No.1 game of all time. Just listening to it makes my gaming blood race. :heart:

It's an obvious one, but there's a good reason for that, cause hearing Still Alive in Portal, still remains the greatest ending to a game I've ever seen.

One of my favourite composers is Shoji Meguro, most notable for his work on the Shin Megami Tensei series. In particular, Persona 3 and Persona 4 are equally tied in having the best soundtrack in any game, due to it's quality and diversity from a wide range of genres from J-Pop to rock, to jazz, even to J-Hip Hop. The opening to Persona 3 remains the most stylish, visually arresting opening I've seen to a game and the opening notes to Burn My Dread is funky and still gives me goosebumps. Hell it's even my ringtone.:

Jet Set Radio is a unique game in many ways, and the soundtrack is a great example of adding to the stylish cool atmosphere. Plus it's a great soundtrack to skate too (even if each area did use only a handful of songs every time).

The original Super Mario Kart is probably my least favorite in the series (flat tracks, predictable AI, 2 players only)...but it had the best Rainbow Road music of them all. Whereas later RR songs sounded all whimsical and had more of a celebratory "you finally made it!" vibe ([noembed]and this guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuX5_OWObA0)[/noembed]), the first one provided more of an epic "THIS IS THE FINAL BATTLE, DON'T FUCK UP" intensity, like only the truly elite racers were welcome.

Metroid Prime is one of my favourite games of all time, in large part it's down to it's atmosphere, and that is helped with it's soundtrack. Like this song which you first hear upon arriving at the planet and looking around at the grassy valley, raindrops hitting the visor:

Terranigma has an absolutely amazing soundtrack. I WANT TO POST ALL THE SONGS.... xD;;; But I'm limiting myself to two ;D! Yays. On a related note, I found Terranigma's soundtrack at Super Potato, it's very rare and highly collectible. It was priced at ¥30.000 ....!!!!!

Well I just tried out something new I guess. I knew what you had to do to use Shanoa effectively and how she acquires new skills, same with Alucard, I just used Soma for the hell of it, then when I realised what kind of abilities he was acquiring, I just wanted to keep playing and get more :D
The GNR music station in Fallout 3 played some songs that either were a perfect accompanyment to the cruelties of the barren Capital Wasteland or despite being so full of cheer and good feeling that it provided an extreme contrast to what you were experiencing. Both equally suitable in adding to the atmosphere. One of my favourites was this, I love the line "Into each life some rain must fall, but too much is falling in mine"

The GNR music station in Fallout 3 played some songs that either were a perfect accompanyment to the cruelties of the barren Capital Wasteland or despite being so full of cheer and good feeling that it provided an extreme contrast to what you were experiencing. Both equally suitable in adding to the atmosphere. One of my favourites was this, I love the line "Into each life some rain must fall, but too much is falling in mine"
And some others I made sure to listen out for while most likely battling Super Mutants in an underground tunnel with ammunition running scarce:

As iconic as "I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire" is for Fallout 3, I just thought it was massively overplayed, both in game and in videos I'd seen that I just got a lil tired of it. Still a great song though.
I knew of Utada Hikaru before Kingdom Hearts, so I loved that she got more attention from her songs on KH I and II. Here's hoping she'll be in it for III!

Tetris Battle Gaiden on the SNES.
It was really fun with it's crystal powers and cute characters. Too bad it was out in Japan only, so a lot of people don't know about it.

Another soundtrack I had to put on my mp3 player is for The World Ends With You. I find you appreciate the songs more once you're actually in the game, and getting you through the flow of battle, or just generally walking around the streets of Shibuya. It's a very cool soundtrack to what I consider to be the best game on the DS.

Just reached a particular area in Metroid Prime 2. Samus crosses through the swamplands of Torvus Bog, the music below just perfectly complimenting your exploration through an alien world. Completely absorbing throughout in the context of gameplay:

Heard this hidden track on Left 4 Dead 2, meaning it's another song by Jonathan Coulton on a Valve game. Long may it continue. I was listening to the song and laughing along with it when it hit the chorus, and I kinda sung along during the middle when I was interrupted with the sound of gunfire. Ok so I guess you can call this kind of cheating. Kinda. For those not in the know, Eternal Sonata is surely one of the games this generation with a really bizarre setup. You're playing a game in the mindset of famous Polish pianist, Frederic Chopin, whilst on his death bed. The game would occassionally stop the narrative to play one of Chopin's songs, with real life, artistic still images accompanying a text description of his life. Er, the real Chopin that is, not the video game one which you play as. And I really enjoyed the choice of tracks, especially the ones you see below:

I loved Vesperia. Rita :heart: . I'm so happy I inspired you :3 Go go and plaay ~ The intro is my favourite too, both song and movie. But I think my favourite Tales will always be Tales of Legendia.It's too underrated, in my opinion. It has some negative points, but I had so much fun playing that one. And the ost is awesome.

I'm a Judith man myself XD I did end up playing it last night and got right back into the flow of the combat. Love using Savage Wolf Fury when an enemy's really annoying me! Did some more of the story and discovered that there's still a lot more to do, in terms of story and side quests, at 90 hrs in the game! :o A gargantuan game.

PGR2 even had more countries and thus, more DJ's and region specific songs. Then it just spiralled down from there with PGR4 and it's generic 'who's hot' soundtrack that's played in any track. Lame, it lost a lot of it's heart and soul as a result, and despite the fact that the game itself was pretty good, it just wasn't as enjoyable. Would you rather listen to Lily Allen or Lady Sovereign or this classic Will Smith knock off?

^ I thought it would be terrible but actually was quite surprising. I'm impressed they're able to make good lyrics and have them all be relevant to FFVII as well. Definately interesting and worth listening to at least once.
The soundtrack to Tactics Ogre is pretty stunning. What's cool about it is that you can listen to the soundtrack at any time through the game menu and each track is accompanied with notes from the composers to reveal their ideas and motivations behind each track. I realise it's a bit of a cop out as it's licensed music but it's one of the rare cases where it lends itself well to the atmosphere of the game. GTA:Vice City had tons of it with a great collection of songs, a mixture of classics and guilty pleasures that really helped make that game the classic game that it is. Plus Fernando Martinez is the best DJ :lol: You wouldn't think gunning down policemen to Waiting For A Girl Like You would be entertaining, but it strangely is!

It's not just the characters that The World Ends With You that's featured in Kingdom Hearts 3D, some of the music shows up too. Interesting thing is that the tracks I have heard are remixed in some way for the game. Twister for example, now sounds like something akin to swing or big band.

One of the new bits of DLC for FFXIII-2 allows you to face off against Gilgamesh. In the best quality version I could find, here is the awesome version of the classic tune, 'Clash On The Big Bridge' that comes when you fight him. Gawd, that brings back memories. Bare Knuckle was pretty much the first game I ever played on Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis. My cousin had imported the console from Japan.

^ I don't know why I was just thinking about chrono trigger. I remember going to Toys R Us and asking my mom for it and her being shocked it was 70 bucks (which today would be like a 120 dollar game). :lol: I think she had told me she would buy me a game if I did something but I can't remember what it was for. It was like mega hyped and supposedly had 10 different endings but... I never even beat it once. :lol:
N64 games were pricy too (damn cartridges) Some like Perfect Dark had bangin music that helped eased the pain though.

Playing ICO and having not played it for so long, it almost feels like a new experience to me again. Going on a bit of an obscure nostalgia trip here with the music from a little-known PC game from the '90s called Epic Pinball. Only three music tracks because I only had the shareware version which only provided one level, but I still got treated to some great sounds. The "shareware outro" song especially stood out for me back then with its second half consisting of a funky ambient groove beat...I'm kinda tempted to remake it in FL Studio now.

Absolutely love this bit of background music to Dark Souls. It's special because it only plays in a well and truly hidden area in the world, that's completely optional to find, but means a lot to those invested in the story. Imagine, for those who have never seen Ash Lake in Dark Souls, you're walking among an ancient mass grave of eternal beasts too powerful for you to comprehend. All wiped out in a genocide by the gods throwing lightning, a miasma of famine and disease and a raging inferno that destroyed their homes. All happening long before history was ever recorded. Each row of massive dead trees now serving as pillars to house the new world formed above and everything is primordial and dead. You look all around you, seeing countless trees in every direction, extending to the skies above, taller than you can see....

Spelunky has a great soundtrack. In a game where death is frequent and you have to restart from the beginning each time all over again, as is typical of a roguelike game, it helps to have a good soundtrack to accompany each attempt and luckily Spelunky has some really great songs.

Playing catchup with AC4 : Black Flag and remembering some key songs from the soundtrack (the sea shanties being the best :D). One of my favourites is the one below, which I find usually wandering around in Kingston. Gotta say, perched up on a viewpoint in Kingston, looking out at the ocean, with the lush green mountains on either side of you is a visual treat, but doing that at a time when the sun rises while listening to this song, especially when the violin kicks in at around 0:40, is a magic moment.

Getting the urge to play the Metroid Prime games again. I absolutely love the soundtracks and could listen to them every day and not be tired. Imagine, you're alone in an isolated alien world, submerging yourself into an underwater temple, into the dark depths underwater with all manner of creatures swimming around you, not knowing if they're hostile or not.
And this music begins to play. It's haunting and it's just perfect.

I have a thing for music around underwater stages in games. It's usually quite distinct and is either soothing and relaxing or something sinister hinting at the dangers of what lies beneath the surface. Metroid Prime has some of the best examples around, which I've already posted, but reaching this stage in Okami puts this song as one of my favourite themes from a game with an already great soundtrack. I spent more time in that stage than I should because of the music.

Assassins Creed Black Flag has a great collection of old sea shanties, Irish songs and Spanish songs in it's soundtrack. The sea shanties are always talked about in Black Flag but a special mention has to go to the songs that are played in the taverns should you visit them, as you'll only find them there. I guess this is cheating a little bit considering it's an already existing song, but this version of The Trooper and The Maid for Black Flag is foot stompingly fantastic.

Wow that takes me back to the days where I used to play the game with my dad sitting beside me as we work out what to do next. We were both blown away by the fact that it was such a huge step forward as the first one was the first 3D game experience we had seen and even then realised it was a huge advance. I remember both of us being really stuck on the opera house with all the glass on the floor, thinking there was a way to jump safely onto it, but then found out you could just walk through it :lol:
I wish Tomb Raider can go back to the days where it wasn't a third person Uncharted clone. Large levels, exploration, puzzle solving, freaking Tomb Raiding.
If there's any surprises to come out of E3, then I hope a remaster of FFXII is announced.

There's a game called Rocket League released this week, notably one of the free games available for PS4 users this month. It's a sequel to a PS3 game called Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars and the theme song for it is as good as you can hope. The hype is real.

So as expected, the soundtrack for Bloodborne is incredible. Every boss fight sounds so grand and epic that each encounter almost feels like it is the final boss. Take the track below when fighting the Cleric Beast, the first boss. The first! It might be my favourite track. It's the most memorable song to listen to but also very distinctive in that as soon as Cleric Beast appears with it's distinctive scream, the boss name and health meter shows up and the music starts to play as you see it shuffling towards you. Getting hyped just listening to it and thinking about it.

The fight for the One Reborn is one of my favourites. Knowing what that boss encounter is, this song is just perfect to imagine the hideous monstrosity that it is. It's beautiful and really brings back some powerful memories of the game back. You play the game dealing with a story with themes of regret, redemption, fate, legacy, genes, life, death, war and peace, ending with an explicit, powerful message over the mistreatment of nuclear weapons. And then this song plays at the end, against real footage of Alaska and it's wildlife, and you start feeling hope, that we can change and better protect ourselves and this planet. Pretty powerful stuff when you play it when you're 11 years old!
Sorry, rambling on :nervous I hope I at least got across why it's a great song and from start to finish, why I think MGS1 is still the best Metal Gear to me.

I recently got the Bravewave remastered SF2 soundtrack!
I was only really excited to get it on Vinyl, and wasn't too fussed about the quality, but due to some issues with them selling out or not printing enough records, I'm waiting until March 2016 for my copy to show up ^^;
Anyway, they were nice enough to put a digital copy of the LP as a free download and omg, it's really amazing what they've done with it! The collection includes SF2 and SSF2, but the SF2 songs are really the amazing part. SSF2 was on the CPS2 system which had stereo Q sound chips, which means the songs don't sound drastically different apart from an increase in quality. SF2 is almost better than arcade perfect, I swear I'm hearing instruments I've never ever heard before, maybe muddled by noise in previous versions or CPS1 just output in mono so they were missed? Certainly listening to them on my ipod headphones that's what strikes me, but listening to them on a set of bassy headphones and holy shit, the bass is amazing! I didn't even know it was there, haha. Plus the quality is so high you can really pump the volume up with like, 0 distortion. Really looking forward to anything these guys do next :D

Playing Dark Chronicle again after it's re release on PS4. I always knew it had a great soundtrack but it didn't quite hit me again until I played it. One of my favourites, so early back into the game is the music that plays after you clear a dungeon of monsters. It's a different song to what usually plays in dungeons and it's a great way of letting you know you can relax. And it's what I do, collecting any treasure chests left unopen, playing the mini golf game. It's good times all round.

Someone created a Jet Set Radio 'radio station' in the same way as presented in the game. All of the soundtrack is on there as well as a number of other inspired choices that wouldn't sound out of place in the game. You can also seem to email the creator through it for whatever purpose (requests maybe? I've seen people getting shoutouts through the ticker display the site has). It makes you appreciate the Jet Set series as something so original and unique that it has undoubtedly left quite an impression on the people who enjoyed them, myself included. So much that people are creating Jet Set nostalgia websites like this after all this time. Make another one Sega!!!

One thing I really like about games like Resident Evil, Bloodborne or Dark Souls is that the game worlds are oppressive, fraught with enemies and danger that fills you with dread at what to expect around every corner. Yet, in each one there is always one area of the game where you can feel safe and find some respite and those areas comes with appropriate music that let you know you're safe as soon as you hear it. But you know you can't stay there, the temptation to stay is too great as your fears lie outside, but you must continue and reach the end.
You can add Salt and Sanctuary to those list of games. Like in the examples above, the music seems sad but is also quite relaxing and beautiful.

Though I haven't played much of this game (or even completed the first one :nervous), every time FF X-2 loads up I wait and listen to this song play before I start up my save file.

Reached the city of Meridian in Horizon Zero Dawn today and was instantly won over by the background song. Didn't think any game could come close to The Witcher 3 in creating such gorgeous towns with compelling music to go with it. More than happy to be proved wrong in this instance.

Just finished LiS:BtS episode 1 and the soundtrack by Daughter is really amazing, well worthy of the original game.
I spent long moments in the game just chilling listening to menu music and of course during all the music sequences with licensed tracks (all superb choices).

Gotta be the entire soundtrack to The Wind Waker. Such a masterpiece. I feel as if since then none of the other zelda games have even come close to matching WW in terms of music quality.
And as I much as I loved Breath of the Wild the music was pretty much abysmal compared to what we usually get from a zelda game. Some good stuff but nothing that I'll be humming forever.

I'm playing Stardew Valley currently and I'm still blown away by the fact that a single person did EVERYTHING, including the music. Many great themes, this one for winter especially stuck in my mind.

While this isn't music taken from the game, I thought it absolutely worth mentioning a new album, 'Memories of Tokyo-To' by 2Mello. As you might tell from the title, the album is heavily inspired by Jet Set Radio and not only is it a great album in it's own right, but if you close your eyes you can see the style and attitude of JSR so clearly in your mind's eye and you can easily see yourself playing JSR with this in the background and it just fits. It may as well be the soundtrack to the JSR sequel we never got. Don't miss out on this.

I've always loved the music of the Ridge Racer games. Namco's sound team was up there with Sega as one of the best groups of musicians around.
